Abstract

The author comments on the article "Factors in Effective Administration" by Charles E. Summer, Jr., presented for a panel discussion session at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management December 28, 1957. The author comments on the lack of discussion regarding the background and history of the management field, and advocates for its inclusion. He suggests that the study also lacks an analysis of management philosophy, which he feels is the underlying value system that dictates the actions of managers in uncertain situations.
