This paper presents optimized patch-like antennas for Through The Wall Imaging (TTWI) radar applications in the frequency range 0.5–2 GHz, and preliminary results using Frequency Modulated Interrupted Continuous Waveform (FMICW). Results of numerical simulations using basic models of the antenna are presented. The antenna optimization was aimed at making the radiation pattern more directional by focusing the energy in a single lobe to be directed towards the wall and the targets to be detected. The optimized antenna was manufactured and its measured parameters are compared with the simulated results which show good agreement. Ground-based radar can provide inexpensive wide-area surveillance of river and port traffic for both security and emergency response. Electronically scanning the radar beam over multiple azimuthal angles rapidly provides extremely wide area coverage. A compact X-band radar was used to scan over a ninety degree sector on a river/harbor environment. An individual moving target indicator (MTI) track triggered a long-range camera, which pans and zooms to get a quality image and allows an exact identification of the mover. We demonstrate the simultaneous tracking of multiple vessels in a river environment along with the associated imagery over several days. We also evaluate the micro-Doppler signatures of different classes of small vessels, including kayaks and zodiacs, as well as pattern of life and port interactions. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This work presents a new radar system concept, working at millimeter wave frequencies, capable of detecting explosive related threats at standoff distances. The system consists of a two dimensional aperture of randomly distributed transmitting/receiving antenna elements, and a Passive Array of Scatters (PAS) positioned in the vicinity of the target. In addition, a novel norm one minimization imaging algorithm has been implemented that is capable of producing super-resolution images. This paper also includes a numerical example in which 7.5 mm resolution is achieved at the standoff range of 40 m for a working frequency of 60 GHz. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Nowadays with the development of freeway the traffic accidents have been increasing. Among the accidents, the rear-end collisions account for a large proportion and the researches on Automotive Rear-end Collision Warning Technology (ARCWT) have become a hot topic. In this paper, we talk about the Automotive Rear-end Collision Warning Technology, such as ARCWT based on machine vision, ARCWT based on radar and so on, analyzing their principles, features and disadvantages in details and introducing the ARCWT based on the multi-sensor information fusion techno-logy. U ovom radu se predlaže algoritam za estimaciju putanje više radarskih meta u okolini jakog šuma. Primjenom algoritama iz oblasti vremensko-frekvencijske analize je moguće dobiti range-doppler reprezentaciju radarske mete u jednom vremenskom trenutku. U sekvenci sukcesivnih vremenskih trenutaka je takođe i sadržana informacija o promjeni položaja radarske mete. Uticaj jakog šuma èesto može da dovede da na nekoj reprezentaciji nije moguće uoèiti radarsku metu usled jakog uticaja šuma. Primjenom predloženog algoritma u ovom radu će biti pokazano da je moguće rekonstruisati putanju mete na osnovu ovakvog seta podataka. Due to advances in technology, resulting in coverage of even higher, and rarely used, frequency regions with low-cost semiconductors, ultra wideband radar systems are getting more feasible for several kinds of applications. In this contribution, the effects of using radar systems with an ultra high spatial resolution, in combination with high precision distance measurements, especially for solid bulk material, and short range synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging are discussed. Furthermore, measurements with a wideband (24.5GHz bandwidth) radar sensor in these applications have been done to demonstrate the advantages, of the high resolution. Especially distance measurement applications with many targets or disturbing scatterers benefit from the wide bandwidth. Here, for the measured scenario an accuracy enhancement of a factor 4 to 8 has been obtained by increasing the bandwidth from 4GHz to 24.5 GHz. Furthermore, short range SAR images with a nearly isotropic resolution of 1.3 cm in range, and 1.5 cm in azimuth direction (−6 dB width, Hanning window) are presented. The use of 24.5 GHz bandwidth, and the accordingly better range resolution, which is now in the same dimension as the azimuth resolution, drastically increases the image quality compared to images taken with 4 GHz bandwidth. The radar high resolution range profiles has been widely used in radar imaging and target recognition because of the simplicity and effectiveness to obtain. For the GTD model of radar target, this paper studies the reconstruction and feature extraction of high resolution range profiles using the method of sparse decomposition. It can avoid the drawbacks of the Nyquist sampling theorem and process the radar echo signal with the method of closer to the essence of the signal characteristics. How to improve position precision via fusing radar multi-position data in radar imaging matching is one of research focus. In order to resolve the problem, a novel data fusion method called STCF (Space-Time Crossing Fusion) method is proposed. The method is fusing the associated data which is mined in the position results, in other words, the STCF fuse all the template position data in a single matching position firstly, which is called space fusion, then fuse the different time point positions given by radar imaging matching system, which is called time fusion. Ultra-wideband (UWB) radar enables detection and imaging of electrically contrast dielectric and conducting objects inside the human body that can be used to detect tumors, internal wounds and support other medical diagnosis along with mapping different metal/dielectric inclusions to navigate, e.g. a robotic surgical tool. General principles to design such systems and their building blocks are discussed along with implementation challenges. Two biomedical test radar systems are described to illustrate the study.
