In this paper, we present an extended evaluation of a course recommender system designed to support students who struggle in the first semesters of their studies and are at risk of dropping out. The system, which was developed in earlier work using a student-centered design and which is based on the explainable k-nearest neighbor algorithm, recommends a set of courses that have been passed by the majority of the student's nearest neighbors who have completed their studies. The present evaluation is based on the data of students from three different study programs. One result is that the recommendations do lower the dropout risk. We also discovered that while the recommended courses differed from those taken by students who dropped out, they matched quite well with courses taken by students who completed the degree program. Although the course recommender system targets primarily students at risk, students doing well could use it. Furthermore, we found that the number of recommended courses for struggling students is less than the number of courses they actually enrolled in. This suggests that the recommendations given indicate a different and hopefully feasible path through the study program for students at risk of dropping out. Presentation documents have been increasingly used not only as supplementary presentation materials but also as contents for investigative learning. In learning a presentation document, learners generally need to select a number of slides from the document, which describe what they want to learn or should learn. However, it is not so easy to find out the slides to be learnt since what each slide represents is not concisely stated and what connections exist between the adjacent slides are not explicitly expressed. They accordingly take more time for learning and finish learning with incomplete knowledge. In order to address this issue, this paper introduces a map called slidemap for visualizing the logical connections between the slides. This map helps learners identify the sequence of slides to be learnt from the presentation document and grasp the structure embedded in the document in a shorter time. This paper also demonstrates a tool for presentation slides-based investigative learning with slidemap. In addition, this paper reports a case study involving 16 participants with the tool, whose purpose was to ascertain whether using slidemap could be more beneficial for understanding the presentation document than using PowerPoint user interface. The results of the study show the effect of increasing learning time and visiting frequency for slides to be learnt, and promoting learners' understanding of presentation documents in a shorter time. Recommender Systems (RS) in e-learning has attracted several researchers aiming basically at scaffolding learners in locating relevant learning resources that meet their learning needs and profiles. Whereas a number of review studies have been carried out in the area of educational recommender systems, there is a limited information in the literature review in the specific domain of recommendation systems for teachers. The objective of this work is to summarize the current research efforts in the field of teacher-oriented recommender systems. By performing this systematic review, 32 papers were selected for further analysis. The obtained results show that educational portals and repositories are widely used as learning environments where recommendations occur. The finding of this review further show that personalized recommendations for teachers and teaching practices improvements are the main issues addressed by RS for teachers. Furthermore, the hybrid approach for recommendation and the evaluation by experiment are the most used, occurring in 43,75% of the selected reviewed papers. We are availing the key findings of this work to propose a teacher recommender system that provides teachers with the most relevant open educational resources (OER) retrieved from collections of resources aligned to the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers (CFT). Consistency of learning behaviors is known to play an important role in learners' engagement in a course and impact their learning outcomes. Despite significant advances in the area of learning analytics (LA) in measuring various self-regulated learning behaviors, using LA to measure consistency of online course engagement patterns remains largely unexplored. This study focuses on modeling consistency of learners in online courses to address this research gap. Toward this, we propose a novel unsupervised algorithm that combines sequence pattern mining and ideas from information retrieval with a clustering algorithm to first extract engagement patterns of learners, represent learners in a vector space of these patterns and finally group them into groups with similar consistency levels. Using clickstream data recorded in a popular learning management system over two offerings of a STEM course, we validate our proposed approach to detect learners that are inconsistent in their behaviors. We find that our method not only groups learners by consistency levels, but also provides reliable instructor support at an early stage in a course. The paper examines the definition and concept of Electronic navigation (e-navigation), Electronic Chart Systems (ECS) and Electronic Chart and Display Information System (ECDIS). In paper are provided compare of positive and negative aspects for alternative e-navigation platform "BalticWeb", developed in "EfficienSea2" project with certified, internationally approved and accepted Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) using on the STCW based criteria about electronic chart system. In addition, the paper represent new evaluation algorithms' testing methods created in Latvian Maritime Academy as part of "EfficienSea2" project. Paper is intended to familiarize wide range of specialists with positive and negative sides for last developed ECDIS, ECS and e-navigation systems and demonstrate subsequent possible ways of development for those systems. The discussion is about a good practice of exploratory testing and cooperation between higher education institutions and research institutions in developing, testing and implementing new digital devices that will be needed by the employer. As a result, the student got new knowledge and as the future worker has participated in the development of future work tools, expressing an opinion on their added value in practice. Building and especially improving a classification kernel represents a challenging task. The works presented in this paper continue an already developed semi-supervised classification approach that aimed at labelling transcripts from educational videos. We questioned whether the size of the ground-truth data-set (Wikipedia articles) or the quality of the keywords used in the semi-supervised labelling have a significant impact on the accuracy metrics of the final obtained data model. Experimental results took into consideration three Wikipedia data-sets of "Small," "Medium" and "Large" sizes. For each data-set there were used three sets of keywords: offered by video authors, determined by "rake-nltk" on available transcripts and determined by "rake-nltk" on Wikipedia articles that serve as training and testing data for the LDA [latent Dirichlet allocation] model that determine keywords on the transcripts. Experiments show that the size of the data-set has little importance, while the quality of the keywords has a more significant impact. Therefore, an improved version of the previously developed classifier has been obtained by improving the quality of the keywords involved in semi-supervised training. This result paves the way towards further improvements that may finally be deployed as within a recommender system of educational videos at the Universitat Politècnica de València. A strategy for allocating merit-based awards and need-based aid is critical to a university. Such a strategy, however, must address multiple, sometimes competing objectives. We introduce an approach that couples a gradient boosting classifier for predicting outcomes from an allocation strategy with a local search optimization algorithm, which optimizes strategies based on their expected outcomes. Unlike most existing approaches that focus strictly on allocating merit based awards, ours optimizes simultaneously the allocation of both merit-based awards and need-based aid. Further, the multi-objective optimization lets users experiment with different combinations of institution-centric and student-centric objectives to deliver outcomes that suit desired goals. With this approach, we identify multiple allocation strategies that would yield higher enrollment, revenue, or students' affordability and access to higher education than the University's existing strategy. In particular, one strategy suggests that with moderate changes to the current funding structure the University can increase students' access to higher education by more than 100%, while still maintaining a similar level of enrollment and revenue. These proceedings contain the papers of the 20th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2022) and 18th International Conference on Mobile Learning (ML 2022), organised by the International Association for Development of the Information Society, held virtually during 12-14 March 2022. Due to the unprecedented situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the conferences were hosted virtually. The e-Society 2022 conference aims to address the main issues of concern within the Information Society. This conference covers both the technical as well as the non-technical aspects of the Information Society. The Mobile Learning 2022 Conference seeks to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of mobile learning research which illustrate developments in the field. These events received 152 submissions from more than 28 countries. In addition to the papers' presentations, the conference also included one keynote presentation by Professor Pedro Isaias (Information Systems & Technology Management School, The University of New South Wales, Australia) and a Special Talk by Wilson Ramon Hernandez Parraci (Ph.D. Student, Northern Illinois University, USA). This paper is based on the retrospective reviews of the Information Systems study group who went on the international study tour to India to learn, network and collaborate with academics, students and industry professionals overseas. The paper addresses concerns of local Australian Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics recruiters and identifies how a well-planned educational study tours could in the future help graduates meet industry and recruiters' demands. It furthermore identifies that 21st century international business ventures and global partnerships require future graduates to not only be skillful in their professions but also be global citizens, know and understand different cultures, easily adapt to new environments, skillfully negotiate business deals, mindfully communicate and swiftly learn to apply and follow local rules, customs and regulations. In Technology Enhanced Learning field, learning analytics cover multiple research challenges, among which tracking data analysis and data indicator design and visualization. Part of our research effort is dedicated to changing their design process, in order to capitalize them. This would allow us to meet a need in cost savings of design workflow and to encourage the adoption by users throughout their implications in a simplified design process. A study of the state of the art has been made to explore various solutions which could be exploited in the capitalization of indicators on both levels, design and implementation. It sets a direction toward a user-centered approach, aiming at a better control of users over their observation needs and the use of their data. [For the full proceedings, see ED621108.]

The significant amount of information available on the web has led to difficulties for the learner to find useful information and relevant resources to carry out their training. The recommender systems have achieved significant success in the area of e-commerce, they still have difficulties in formulating relevant recommendations on e-learning resources because of the different characteristics of learners. Most of the existing recommendation techniques do not take these characteristics into account. This problem can be mitigated by including learner information in the referral process. Currently many recommendation techniques have cold start problems and classification problems. In this paper, we propose an ontology-based collaborative filtering recommendation system for recommending learners' online learning resources based on a decision algorithm (DA). In our approach, ontology is used to model and represent domain knowledge about the learner and learning resources. Our approach is divided into four parts: (a) the creation of an ontology for the representation of the learner's knowledge and learning resources (b) the calculation of the similarity of the assessments according to the ontology and the prediction for the learner concerned; (c) generating the K best items by the collaborative filtering recommendation engine and (d) applying the DA on the proposed items to generate the final recommendations for the targeted learner. People re-identification has been a very active research topic recently in computer vision. It is an important application in surveillance system with disjoint cameras. This paper is focused on the implementation of a human re-identification system. First the face of detected people is divided into three parts and some soft-biometric traits are extracted from each part. In second step, we can recognize people even if their faces are hidden or they are with back appearance. The features extraction will be carried out according to the overall characteristics of the complete images of different persons. An algorithm that identifies people from their body shape will be developed. A powerful representation of the person based on the characteristics of color, texture and shape as well as different soft-biometric features is suggested. The experiments are carried out on SAIVT-SoftBio database which consists of videos from disjoint surveillance cameras as well as some static image based datasets (MUCT, VIPeR, CVSRP). Discussion forums are used to support socio-collaborative learning processes among students in online courses. However, complex forum structures and lengthy discourse require that students spend their limited time searching and filtering through posts to find those that are relevant to them rather than spending that time engaged in other meaningful learning activities (i.e., discussion). Moreover, existing adaptive systems do not accommodate individual learner needs in these contexts. In this work, we propose a multi-relational graph-based recommendation approach that mines student interaction logs to address the above problems within discussionbased socio-collaborative online courses. To account for the social aspects of learning, our approach incorporates learner modeling, social network analysis, and natural language processing techniques; it offers tailored recommendations of forum posts for learners with different types of interaction behaviors. In our experiments with small online courses, our approach outperformed competitor approaches in terms of recommendation precision while meeting expectations with respect to diversity and novelty. The results illustrate the proposed algorithm's effectiveness in predicting student preferences, suggesting its potential to increase student participation in discussion-related learning activities. The Education Program Provider Chair's objective was to create a student legacy artifact archival retrieval system. The goal was to have the database system operational by Spring Semester, 2019. The purpose of the new system was to house and index student and pre-service candidate product across performance levels reflective of the program's key assessments. Program continuous improvement was the intended result of the new system. The Chair and a Senior Computer Science Major met 10 times, using a 16-stage process to create the new Teacher Candidate Artifact System (TCAS). Scored student artifacts were the study instruments. Evaluators improved ability to score student artifacts through their use of the system. Student and pre-service candidate reviews of prior student artifacts improved subsequent ones. Faculty accessing the system improved their writing of rubric performance levels. TCAS enhanced program continuous improvement. Knowledge regarding implementing such a system is valuable to all Education Program Providers.

The author has attended and presented at most ASCUE meetings since 1994, and has worked professionally in research and development, industry, military, government, business, and private and public academia--moving between computer science, software engineering, and business fields at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and even running academic computing for a few years. This paper/session will present/discuss definitions, implications, and relationships of and between the areas of computer science, software engineering, information technology, and business information systems. Included will be perspectives of the history of the past, specific needs of the present, and general directions and predictions of the future, and the implications to academia, business, and other areas. This paper suggests digital approaches in university management. Digital transformation requires leadership that can maintain and balance competing interests from faculty, administrators, students and others. The team of Varna Free University designed a flexible proper solution VFU SMART STUDENT aiming at lower operating costs and better performance is application of cloud technologies. It is a web-based information system for provision of e-services to VFU students, which provides comprehensive information about the student from their enrolment until their graduation. Network monitoring system is used to make the transition easier, and to improve network effectiveness. After Croatian accession to the EU, Croatian companies have faced tough competition and all other challenges posed by doing business in open markets. These companies must increase competitiveness and take their position on developed globalized markets through differentiation of their products and services and/or creation of cost advantage. For many companies in Croatia this necessitates restructuring of the firm through which a comparative advantage can be achieved. This paper describes the restructuring process and actions which are taken during the restructuring, the goal of which is to increase efficiency and achieve intelligent management of the company. During restructuring process, it is important to apply both qualitative and quantitative approach in business analysis in order to detect key weaknesses and problems. The main tool in business analysis, which is the foundation of making business decisions during restructuring process, is the business intelligence system. Business intelligence systems enable companies to obtain wide-ranging information about factors which influence the business. The presented case study demonstrates specific examples of utilization of business intelligence systems during the restructuring process, synergy of business intelligence, strategy and business processes and improvements achieved through implementation of certain measures during the restructuring process. Schools across the United States suffer from low on-time graduation rates. Targeted interventions help at-risk students meet graduation requirements in a timely manner, but identifying these students takes time and practice, as warning signs are often context-specific and reflected in a combination of attendance, social, and academic signals scattered across data sources. Extremely high caseloads for counselors compound the problem. At Infinite Campus, a large student information system provider, we modeled statistical relationships between student educational records and enrollment outcomes, using de-identified records and in-system analysis to guarantee student data privacy. The resulting risk scores are highly predictive, context-sensitive, nationally available, integrated into the existing student information system, and updated daily. In massive online communities of creators (OCOCs), one of the core challenges is to encourage users to learn to create original contents using basic components. Recommending the right learning components at the right time is critical for improving user engagement and has not been fully studied due to the unstructured nature of online communities. To address the problem, we propose in this paper a novel recommendation model which integrates Cox's survival analysis and collaborative filtering. Our model can incorporate factors such as user learning history and social engagements, which provides us insights in improving the personalized service. Social media technologies were introduced among the modern society and are part of its routine in many ways--knowledge acquisition and sharing, interpersonal relationships, media diffusion--sometimes complementing and even substituting tools that were specifically designed for similar activities. This research compares social media sites and institutional communication channels by confronting elements that construe perceived usefulness and system satisfaction. It has been shown that students see more usefulness in social media technologies when performing academic activities than in information systems provided by their university, mainly due to the ease of use of the former technology. This study uses an organizational perspective to examine whether school closings and the accompanying redistribution of resources (students and programs) has implications for surviving schools in the surrounding school boundary. I use school-level data from the National Center for Education Statistics Common Core of Data and School Attendance Boundary Information System to analyze how school closings impact student composition and program distribution in elementary schools during school years 2005-2006 through 2012-2013. Nearest neighbor matching demonstrates school closings are associated with higher populations of minority students and students with greater socioeconomic needs in nearby schools that remain open. Additionally, schools in the same boundary as closed schools are more likely to have a specialized structure (i.e. as a magnet or charter).

This paper complements an earlier (2019) literature review on workarounds in information systems research by including research that has influenced or been published in core IS outlets during the last five years (2018-2022). Our study captures research that strengthened, widened, and challenged theoretical insights from the previous review. It also provides additional insights and develops seven themes of theoretical insight. The 31 new papers and our updated analysis are most evident in the three themes: Workarounds and power, Temporality of workarounds, and Managing workarounds. We also found additional studies using the term 'workaround' differently to the extent that they have not applied the term to the same empirical phenomena, which questions the validity of some theoretical claims. Technology facilitated teaching and learning can now influence the way both lecturers and students collaborate. The problem is that many of these interventions are conducted in a non-systematic ad-hoc way. There are concerns that merely adopting a traditional lecturing approach to a technology based environment provides little if any advantage to the education processes resulting in no manifest difference. During 2013 and 2014, an attempt was made to offer a virtual collaboration (VC) module blending a traditional face-to-face approach with a blended teaching approach by adding a synchronous virtual classroom environment. The VC module had previously been offered to Information System honours students in a traditional face-to-face environment only. An action research methodology was deemed the most appropriate and in the first year, a conservative, phased approach was adopted to mitigate risk to both students as well as the lecturer concerned. After attempting a traditional lecturing style within the virtual environment, it was quickly realized that a facilitative role is necessary to achieve the potential of a virtual classroom. During the first year, data was collected from students as well as a virtual participant. The lecturer maintained a detailed log of experiences as well. During the second year, major process changes reflected the lessons learned from year one. This also resulted in six (6) guidelines believed to be appropriate for conducting a post-graduate module within a blended synchronous learning environment. The most significant contribution, however, is believed to be in the realization of what a virtual classroom environment means to an extended learning community and the value of providing a collaborative learning environment and encouraging students to engage with external stakeholders. The Association Supporting Computer Users in Education (ASCUE) initiated a refereed track for paper submissions to the conference in 2008. In fact, at the 2008 business meeting, the membership approved three different presentation tracks: refereed with 3 blind reviews for each paper, session with paper where the author submits a paper but it is not reviewed, and session without paper where no paper is submitted and only the abstract is included in the proceedings. User clustering algorithms have been introduced to analyze users' learning behaviors and help to provide personalized learning guides in traditional Web-based learning systems. However, the explicit and implicit coupled interactions, which means the correlations between user attributes generated from learning actions, are not considered in these algorithms. Much significant and useful information which can positively affect clustering accuracy is neglected. To solve the above issue, we proposed a coupled user clustering algorithm for Wed-based learning systems. It respectively takes into account intra-coupled and inter-coupled relationships of learning data, and utilizes Taylor-like expansion to represent their integrated coupling correlations. The experiment result demonstrates the outperformance of the algorithm in terms of efficiently capturing correlations of learning data and improving clustering accuracy. Teaching students to conduct a rigorous systematic literature review (SLR) may be challenging, given the growing output of scientific literature and the increasing plethora of supporting software and artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT. A SLR supported by design science artefacts and emerging artificial intelligence tools have the potential to overcome the challenges posed by increasing scientific literature. However, guidelines and steps required to conduct a SLR still need to be clarified in the existing literature. Furthermore, existing design science artefacts and software tools do not support teaching students to conduct rigorous systematic reviews. This paper presents guidelines on the required steps for a rigorous SLR and proposes a Researchbuddie artefact to support teaching SLR. Using a systematic review and design science findings, identify SLRs four main phases of planning, conducting, evaluating and reporting reviews, each supported by itemised sub-steps. Furthermore, a design science artefact Researchbuddie is proposed to support teaching SLR. A sleep diary is an important tool to gather subjective sleep data, which provides key information for the diagnosis of a variety of sleep disorders. In 2012, an expert panel created a standardized sleep diary in penand-paper format. However, pen-and-paper has certain limitations, in particular, it is difficult to monitor participant compliance and memory bias. We improve upon these limitations with a digital design and identify benefits and drawbacks of the pen-and-paper format in comparison to a digital sleep diary in an empirical study based on an action design research project. The main contribution consists of five design guidelines: i) use the native environment, ii) utilize established input methods, iii) embed customization to minimize participant workload, iv) evaluate the application continuously using analytics, and v) integrate digital elements to increase compliance. This paper explores how to bridge the field of IS on sustainability with Sustainability Transitions Research (STR). Using a bibliometric analysis of 5 IS conference proceedings, it maps possibilities for such bridging, moving beyond the current approaches of GreenIT. Semantic content analysis of IS abstracts and keywords indicates themes characterizing GreenIT, focusing mostly on sustainability practice on the organizational level. In contrast, sustainability research (systems-level) is still uncharted territory for the IS community. Social network analysis of the authors and journals shows that collaboration and co-citation "within" the IS community are as low as the connection "without". We propose that more diffusion of IS theory and methods through Design Science may enrich current STR to be truly data-driven and theory-guided. First, the mapping suggests that IS theorizing can augment STR to be more generalizable for the digital era. Second, the thematic patterns suggest that Design Science methods and artifacts can augment the design of large-size STR studies bringing a more robust and data-driven theory-guided analysis of system innovation and transitions actor networks. This article presents an overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research applied in the Management Information Systems field by analyzing the databases of the AIS journal basket list representing the major international journals on MIS. An initial set of 438 published papers was identified based on our search criteria. From those, 74 were selected because of their appropriate fit with the research questions. They were organized into domains, type of research, data collection strategy and AI technique. We found: (1) MIS Quarterly published 42% of the papers; (2) 50% of studies were on Information Systems applications, followed by 15% on Knowledge Management; and (3) 7 AI techniques were presented. Previous information system resilience studies have predominantly focused on analyzing bounce back, return to pre-shock state, resilience. This paper explores the phenomena of bounce forward information system resilience through longitudinal analysis of the COVID-19 responses in Sri Lanka and Sierra Leone. Both of these countries were able to significantly expand their information systems in terms of functionality, scale, and coordination in response to the pandemic. The goal of this paper is to derive new bounce forward attributes that were present in the information system landscapes of these countries prior to the pandemic. Through the analysis of these cases against the previously identified resilience attributes found in the literature, we defined capacity for coordinated agility, configurable and extensible innovation platform infrastructure, and human resource action potential as unique information system attributes that can constitute bounce forward outcomes when systems face shocks or are under stress. The current digitalization is a disruptive, challenging process that causes a social-technical transition in organizations. Due to that, there are more and more use cases in companies. Action research as a form of social research combines theoretical knowledge and practical execution, which is why it is suitable for current challenges. In several cycles, a literature analysis is carried out to build the knowledge base and establish hypotheses. Based on this, an action is then performed, which is subsequently analyzed, whereupon the knowledge base is expanded through literature. Since action research has not been used much in information systems so far, it is important to identify the reasons for the low use of action research in the research area of information systems. In this paper a systematic literature review was used to identify the barriers that explain the low use of action research in information systems. The findings are twelve different barriers, which are classified into three categories. The categories are "Human Factors", "Method Factors" and "Application Factors". Established in 1991, the European Journal of Information Systems (abbreviated as EJIS) is widely regarded as the preeminent international journal in the field of "information systems and management". This article's objective is to provide a bibliometric overview of the research trends that have been observed in this journal between the years 1991 and 2022 (till May). The publication data of all of the documents that were published in EJIS during this particular time period have been extracted from Scopus database and analyzed with the help of R Studio and VOSviewer. These documents primarily include articles, reviews, editorials, conference papers, and notes. In addition, citation analysis and keyword analysis have both been carried out in order to determine emerging patterns in the research. According to the study, EJIS is one of the most important journals with growing number of research publications year by year based on the analysis outcomes. Given the growing output of scientific literature, researchers are faced with a daunting challenge when it comes to performing systematic literature reviews. Hence, the use of Information Systems to achieve operational excellence has gained increasing importance in systematic literature reviews. However, existing solutions to support systematic literature reviews are often restrained to a single aspect of the process or lack interoperability. As such, researchers may not be able to efficiently leverage recent promising advancements in Machine Learning and Text Analytics. Therefore, we developed a flexible and modifiable artifact that aims to support systematic literature review processes from a holistic point of view. We expect our artifact to be a first step towards semi-automation of systematic literature reviews, which will gain relevance in the near future, as the trend of rising scientific literature output is expected to continue. This study presents preliminary insights on the dominant issues, theories, and methodologies in existing research on platform interoperability. The authors illustrate their position by analysing the various issues, theoretical approaches and research methodologies found in these studies. A total of 70 papers obtained from five academic literature databases from 2008 to 2018 were reviewed. The findings suggest that the reviewed studies largely lack theorisation. As such, we suggest that theorisation underpins future interoperability research. These research should, first, explore the antecedents of platform interoperability and how differing interests of stakeholders are unified and implemented. Second future research should explore technological and non-technological (process, administrative and structural) changes that organizations undergo while attempting to adopt interoperability and how the change shapes the outcome of the process. Lastly, future research needs to also examine the context-based factors that influence interoperability and how these factors compare or contrast across private and public sector organizations. Over several decades, Information Systems (IS) researchers have grappled with the problem of how best to evaluate the success or effectiveness of computing systems. Consequently, researchers working within the IS Management realm have contributed to an ever growing body of knowledge to the field of IS Evaluation. Much of the debate has focused on the difficulty in being able to measure IS Success and it has been suggested that the search for appropriate metrics has resembled the proverbial search for the Holy Grail. Consequently the field of IS evaluation research is fragmented, and various streams of research has tended to continue on independent trajectories. As a result, arguments in terms of the value thereof to IS Management occurs from a siloed perspective. It has therefore become paramount to develop a means for classifying IS evaluation approaches. This will enable improved coherence in the field, and assist researchers at the problem inception stage to locate their work within the broader field. Given the foregoing, this paper provides a review of literature to contextualise and frame the field of IS Evaluation research. The paper thereafter presents an analysis of 110 articles, which were published over a period of five years. Each paper was analysed to assess if the focus on IS evaluation was from either the IS Product, Process or Service perspective. The papers were also scored on the extent to which it focused on clearly delineated evaluation questions and the extent to which the research question was aligned to IS evaluation in the internetworked era. The findings indicate the research community has placed emphasis on IS evaluation from a service perspective as compared to evaluating product and process perspectives. This indicates an increase in the development of proxy indicators of IS success rather than evaluations which focus on the product. The paper concludes with recommendations on how future research in this field may be improved. It is proposed that the clarity of the units of analysis of IS Evaluation studies may be obtained by positioning or classifying the evaluation focus within the systems development life-cycle framework. A case is further made for a stronger alignment of research questions which advance questions related to systems issues in the inter-networked era, as well as advancing knowledge related to the Information Society. Despite occasional pleas to incorporate the ethics of information systems into the field’s research agenda, the analysis of the moral ramifications of information systems has remained unsystematic in nature. Work on a remarkable variety of ethical issues has appeared, but the field has yet to produce a coherent conception of how it construes and studies the ethics of information systems. In this research-in-progress paper, we report on work to redress the situation by addressing three goals. First, we provide an overview of contributions made to the study of ethics in information systems research in recent decades. Second, we present a classificatory scheme to organize past and future work on the subject. Third, we identify themes that have received little attention to date, proposing routes for future work. In particular, we find that our field has yet to fully explore the moral implications of the very artifacts of its own design. However, this usefulness presupposes the existence of data with sufficient structure and quality to train machine learning models. Thus, in this study, we address the research question: How does data resourcing contribute to enabling AI opportunities? We address this question by investigating an example of data resourcing in a master’s level artificial intelligence (AI) course at UmeÃ¥ University, Sweden. This is an empirical, case-based educational setting where students engaged in data resourcing using a no-code AI platform. Our results involve provide insights regarding constructs associated with two phases of data resourcing: data work practices, and data interpretation. Collectively, these constructs provide a framework for data resourcing that is the main contribution of this paper, together with insights into the benefits of using no-code AI tools in educational settings. Our framework reveals the nature of data resourcing as a creative process where iterative algorithmic mediation, data sensemaking and contextualization enables AI opportunities. In the last decade, digital technologies are omnipresent in daily life, work and education. Internet and information technologies are changing the way we do business, communicate and educate ourselves. Pandemic of 2020 made digital technologies even more used and accelerated processes of digitalization and digital transformation. Education system is inevitable part of digital transformation process. Digital technologies in education should be used properly and efficiently. IT experts from Croatia are extremely esteemed world wide. Many innovative programming solutions of how to implement digital technologies in education are being currently developed in Croatia. Some of these solutions are being financed by Digital Europe Programme. In this paper we have analysed the state of digital transition in education, available information systems, digital resources and services in education in Croatia. For the purpose of this paper, there was a primary online poll on. The targeted population were random pupils, students and professors, all of which are part of Croatian education system. The poll was made by online questionnaire distributed via e-mail and social media. The goal of this questionnaire was to find out users' attitude towards already existing digital resources and services in education. The purpose of this research is to collect data about efficiency and way of use of already existing digital resources. Results of this research will show digital technologies advantages and disadvantages for use in education purposes. Results generated by poll were analysed by various statistic tools. AI-based social media recommendations have great potential to improve user experience. However, often these recommendations do not match the user interest and create an unpleasant experience. Moreover, the recommendation system being a black box creates comprehensibility and interpretability issues. This paper investigates social media recommendations from an end-user perspective. For the investigation purpose, we conducted a qualitative study with the users of the popular social media platform Facebook. We asked participants about social media content suggestions, comprehensibility, and explainability. Our analysis shows, users mostly require explanation whenever they encounter unfamiliar content and want to be informed about their data privacy and security. Furthermore, the users require concise, non-technical explanations along with the facility of controlled information flow. In addition, we observed that explanations impact the user's perception of transparency, trust, and understandability. Enterprise architects and IT systems developers must often decide ad hoc how to identify, assess and mitigate ethical issues of autonomous, rule-based systems based on blockchain technology. As blockchain systems are decentralized and immutable, developers must assess ethical risks, not only on an individual level but also on a network level along the life-cycle stages of a blockchain system. These ethical issues should be addressed and ideally mitigated by clearly defined norms and values that are intentionally incorporated in a blockchain system. As a reference for a normative system, we have chosen the European Union and its ethical values to discuss them in the context of ethical issues emerging from blockchain systems. IT identity plays a significant role in individuals' IT adoption and use behaviors and can impact job satisfaction. However, other individual traits, like the digital mindset, previously showed to also affect the effects of the intertwining of IT and workplaces on job satisfaction. Therefore, we examine the role of a digital mindset in shaping IT and job identity and survey 167 employees. By analyzing the relationship between these concepts, the paper contributes to a better understanding of how identities are formed and how they affect job satisfaction in the digitally-enabled workplace. Our results demonstrate that IT identity’s effect on job satisfaction is fully mediated by job identity. We also reveal that a digital mindset moderates the relationship between IT and job identities. Further, we discuss the key challenges and opportunities associated with the adoption and use of IS in organizations and provide insights into the future directions of IS research. Overall, we contribute to the ongoing discourse on the role of IT identity and digital mindset in the workplace and provide valuable insights for researchers and practitioners. This paper examines the current state and evolution of Computer Science (CS) and Information Systems (IS) research communities for the period of 2008 to 2019 by analysing Web of Science (WoS) core collection records. In order to compare and examine research outputs, the study period was divided into two time-periods. The first period included articles published between 2008 and 2013 and the second period included articles published between 2014 and 2019. Several analyses are presented in the scope of scientometrics regarding the (a) countries (b) historical occurrence-time (c) institutions (d) author collaboration (e) study topics-keywords (f) journals. This paper provides meta-analysis in different areas. We believe that our analysis results will shed a light for each area as well as interaction and intersection between both areas. The paper is devoted to the topic of introducing practically oriented thesis writing in the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences of Stockholm University. The paper considers both legal and practical aspects of introducing practically oriented thesis. The material is based partly on the literature study, and partly on the experience of supervising practically oriented BS and MS thesis in the department. The research presented in this paper is of the Action Research type. The paper introduces a rough classification of practically oriented thesis, and discusses problems that need to be solved, such as proper disposition, grading, and method-related courses. Teaching research methodology is one of the core components of various degree programmes. As producing a piece of research is a key characteristic that differentiates academic education from vocational training. More so, research methodology courses are expected to go beyond providing students the foundation to produce research but to also teach students real-life thinking skills and reasoning. This calls for teaching research methodology in manner that students develop deep approaches to learning which will enhance students' engagement with the subject matter resulting in improved analytical and conceptual thinking skills. However research methods is one of the challenging university course to teach. Especially when students hold persistent unfavourable attitudes toward research methods failing to perceive the link between research methods and overall degree program. In the Information Technology and Information Systems domain the subject matter is varied covering areas such as technology, processes and human aspects relating to technology. As such researchers in these two domains have a range of methodologies when planning and conducting research. This paper presents a reflection on adopting a student centred approach towards teaching research methodology course to three different groups of fourth level university students. In this paper the strategies for facilitating deep learning in teaching research methods and research methods in the Information Systems domain will be discussed. In addition reflections on the use of a student centred approach, student experiences and strategies used. The experiences and strategies relate to facilitating deep learning. The experiences are focused on topic identification, conducting and writing up the literature reviews, developing an understanding of the research methodology inclusive of data analysis and presenting the research report. Digital health information systems are quickly replacing paper systems worldwide. This study examined scholarly work reflecting how ethical considerations for health information systems (HISs) have evolved over time, with particular interest in the contributions from low- and middle-income country (LMIC) institutions. We systematically searched four research databases for terms related to HISs, ethics, and LMICs; and identified 601 relevant articles published from 1975 through 2019. The included publications were produced by 1,000 authors from more than 700 institutions. However, only 30 publications were co-authored by researchers from both an LMIC and a high-income country (HIC). Most publications pertained to data security. There is an acute need to address a wider array of HIS ethics topics, including those that may be unique to LMIC resource constraints. We recommend more collaborations between LMIC and HIC institutions to address the full range of HIS ethical concerns in LMICs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
