Abstract

The article presents summaries of invited papers read at the winter meeting of the British Grassland Society in London, England on December 4, 1974. The theme of the meeting was "winter feeding for beef production." It is reported in one of the summaries that beef producers are facing a crisis situation with a collapse in returns to the producer; in consequence most producers are confused and are uncertain of the future. The crisis is caused by a combination of escalating costs and falling returns. Rising concentrate prices have been the main factor in increasing costs in many systems, a direct reflection of high world cereal prices, which are likely to continue in the foreseeable future.

A critique is presented of poems such as "Planetarium," "The Demon Lover," and "The Burning of Paper Instead of Children" by Adrienne Rich, which allude to the Vietnam War and Rich's understanding of feminism. Rich's involvement in the civil rights and anti-war movements in the U.S. in the 1960s and 1970s is discussed, as well as her belief in pacifism.

I also thank members of our advisory committees and the many researchers and institutional leaders who have engaged with NHMRC during our national consultation on gender disparities in NHMRC funding outcomes. Modelling of each option based on past outcomes showed that the additional funded applications would be highly meritorious, scoring above 5 (excellent) or 5.5 (outstanding) on NHMRC's 7-point scale.[14] NHMRC proposed that non-binary applicants be eligible for inclusion in any new gender equity initiative. NHMRC discussion paper: Options to reach gender equity in the Investigator Grant scheme (NHMRC Publication Reference: NH198).
