16. 41: Primary Sarcomas of the Lung.

Abstract

Primary sarcoma of the lung is a rare, albeit real, entity that needs to be kept in mind as a differential of a lung mass. It is important to rule out occult primaries elsewhere before diagnosis a PPS. Distant metastasis portends a dismal prognosis, while in localized tumor, size, resectability, and histologic grade are of prognostic value. Complete resection can lead to long-term survival. Adjuvant therapy has no proven value. Postoperative radiotherapy has been employed if the surgical margins were positive. Given the ineffectiveness of current chemotherapy in soft tissue sarcomas, patients should be considered for phase I/II studies evaluating novel agents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
