33. Singularity-Consistent Torque Control of a Redundant Flexible-Base Manipulator.

Abstract

A path tracking controlmethod for a kinematically redundant manipulator on a flexible base is proposed. The method is based on dynamic redundancy resolution through a vibration suppression constraint. It is shown that the end-effector path can pass via an algorithmic singularity without destabilizing the system. Abstract

Although multimedia content containing streaming media is now widely used on the World Wide Web, there exist considerable difficulties for blind users to access such content, due to its dynamic changes, keyboard inoperability, and audio interference with the speech from assistive software. In particular, the third problem of audio interference is serious for blind users, since multimedia content often contains streaming media such as video and music which continuously play sounds, and thus they cannot hear the speech, which is masked by the loud media. In this paper, we propose a new accessible browser that can directly manipulate such multimedia content. In order to control Flash contents, our browser relies on a transcoding HTTP proxy to inject special scripts into the Flash content and then manipulates the embedded streaming media and sound objects via the injected scripts. By using our browser, users can easily turn the volume up or down, play, stop, or pause the streaming media with shortcut keys. Since the users do not need to focus on buttons or sliders for these operations, they can immediately stop or fade out the intrusive media when listening to speech from assistive software. 35. Dexterous Motion Design for a DD Parallel Robot.

Abstract

This paper deals with design of a dexterous motion for a robot consisting of a six degrees-of-freedom (DOF) closed kinematic chain, and driven by direct-drive (DD) motors. The robot can move very fast and, therefore, the motion is not only dexterous but also very fast. The paper considers, first, a set of control modes that are necessary and sufficient for the implementation of the dexterous motion. Then, a control program is designed for the implementation of the control modes, in which exploitation of the motor back-drivability and compensation of the motor friction, plays a key role. The paper also discusses a teaching program, based upon which an off-line teaching system has been implemented; dexterous tasks such as peg-insertion and side-matching, which are very fast, have been taught by the system successfully. 36. Menu-Selection-Based Japanese Input Method with Consonants for Pen-Based Computers.

Abstract

We have developed a menu-selection-based Japanese input method for a pen device. To obtain user-input kanji-form text rapidly, the system requires sequence of consonant. Following this, the user selects kanji-form candidates inferred by the system. In some situations, consonant sequences can trigger an explosion of kanji-form candidates. Therefore, we have implemented a method for reducing candidates through vowel fixing. The user can input consonants, and select kanji-form candidates fluidly, using FlowMenu. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
