Information about Slovakia is presented. The country became a part of Czechoslovakia in 1919, and was taken over by the Nazis in World War II. It was returned to Czechoslovakia after the war and came under the rule of the Soviet Union until the fall of communism in 1989. It was established as a separate state in 1993. The country was admitted in the European Union (EU) in 2004 after it changed its attitude towards enlargement.
