ALBA is a 3GeV third generation Synchrotron Radiation (SR) Facility currently under construction in Cerdanyola del Vall's, Barcelona, Spain. The Storage Ring is to deliver as high as possible photon flux densities on the samples. To this end the Storage Ring has been designed to have an electron beam emittance of ca. 4.5 nm.rad and, in spite of a relatively small perimeter, a significant number of straight sections in which to house Insertion Devices (IDs). The injector complex consists of a 100 MeV LINAC and a small emittance (ca. 9 nm.rad), full energy, 3 GeV, Booster. It is intended to operate the accelerator complex in a top-up mode from the very beginning of its operation. The project started in earnest in 2004 and its completion with seven beam-lines (BLs) in its initial phase, is expected by 2009, so that routine user operation can start in 2010.
