Chapter 5 of the book "The Family Saga: A Collection of Texas Family Legends," by Francis Edward Abernethy is presented. Tales of the hunts by Texan families and their encounter with wolves, panthers, bears and other wild animals are told. It also tells stories about the domestic animals on whom Texan ancestors depended for food, clothes and transportation.

A chapter from the book "Between the Cracks of History: Essays on Teaching and Illustrating Folklore" is presented. It discusses marital strategies to drive the woman crazy. One example is eating a big slice of pie over the sink and talking to the wife with the mouth full. Another is drinking milk straight out of the carton, and when the wife catches the husband drinking from the carton, he must be contrite, make a promise never to do it again, and take one last gulp of milk as the woman walks out of the kitchen.
