- Abstract
Most of current Linux systems have package management tools which provide the easy way - installing, updating, and removing - without compiling source code within package-based Linux systems. However, any of package management tools does not provide a network-based management mechanism because the tools are only designed for the sole Linux system, not for multiple Linux systems managed in a large management domain. Thus, in this paper, we propose a private-mib to manage package-based Linux systems, called PKG-MIB. With PKG-MIB, an administrator would efficiently manage package-based Linux systems in a large scale management domain by Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). According to the result of performance evaluation of implementation, a Linux system with PKG-MIB reduces the cost for package management up to 8 times compared to a normal Linux system.
