In electronic retailing market and/or supply chain, upstream sellers need to carefully plan and offer suitable returns policies to their downstream customers in order for ensuring product qualities, promoting product sales, maintaining customer satisfaction, lowering handling costs, and ultimately maximizing total profits. This paper aims at exploring the feasibility of using a hybrid data mining approach to support the coordination of returns policies and marketing plans for profit optimization in the e-business domain. A multi-dimensional data model and an integrated data mining process are provided to facilitate the three-staged clustering, classification, and association mining functions. Through this knowledge discovery process, customer and product classes identified in terms of the level of returns ratios are associated with the returns policies and marketing plans to generate rules for optimizing market profits. Academic researches, government reports, and international organization surveys have indicated that outcomes of many digital divide projects fail to accomplish their strategic goals, and so that more exertions of strategic management in the government project planning process are expected. In order to ensure the achievement of bridging digital divides, governments need to be aware of their absence and weakness in strategy formulation and implementation in addition to simply launching projects towards strategic visions and objectives. However, the literature shows little help for the governments to detect the shortcomings of their strategies and to identity gaps between strategic objectives and performance measures. The goal of this research is to propose generic strategic gaps models based on the balanced scorecard framework for identifying and analyzing the strategic gap situations. Both horizontal and vertical strategic gaps regarding project efforts for reducing digital divides will be determined and discussed. Although the digital divide issues have attracted global attentions, literature surveys still show no significant progress towards evaluating effectiveness of the digital divide strategies and projects for bridging the gaps. The objective of this paper is to improve the performance measurement method for digital divide strategies by adapting the balanced scorecard approach. A structured framework is presented to integrate the balanced scorecard perspectives and digital divide dimensions for guiding the development of effective performance measurement indicators and an associated dictionary. Values have been noted as integral elements of an electronic business model (BM) while value creation has been considered as a central strategic task in e-business planning. It has also been suggested that performance measurement and strategic management should focus on the value creation process. In recent years, the balanced scorecard (BSC) has evolved to become a dominant strategic management mechanism and has been widely adopted in business sectors. However, a gap between BM and the BSC still hinders the usefulness and effectiveness of applying the BSC to the e-business domain. This paper aims at providing an integrated framework for linking the BSC to e-business models through identified values and strategies to facilitate strategic management activities. The rapidly growing web technologies and electronic commerce applications have stimulated the need of personalized and group decision support functionalities in eTourism intermediary systems. The goal of this paper is to propose a functional framework and design process for building a web-based customer-oriented decision support system to facilitate personalized and community tourism services. Major decision support functions include personalized data and model management, information search and navigation, product/vendor evaluation and recommendation, do-it-yourself travel planning and design, community and collaboration management, auction and negotiation, as well as trip tracking and quality control.
