"The main focus of this book is on ways and means of putting better products at the service of the elderly and the disabled. In presenting a collection of international papers by industrialists, government officials, financiers, experts from consumer protection services and charitable organisations, as well as those working daily in the field, this study sets out to provide a blueprint for understanding how the development of new and adapted products can most constructively be translated into practical help for the elderly and the handicapped." The papers included are the result of two symposia sponsored by the Commission of the European Communities. The purpose was to identify applications in which technology does or could make a contribution to the care of people who for reasons of age or physical disability are deficit in physical or sensory function.
