This book argues that a resilient region should act reactively and proactively in the face of shocks and disruptions and asserts that the institutionalization of regional cooperation may be the answer to development challenges in times of uncertainty and instability. It considers regional, transregional, and subregional cooperation initiatives for building regional resilience and critically examines a broad spectrum of issues, such as international security and trade, economic development, value chains in production, and social welfare. Adopting the concept of resilience allows for a holistic, dynamic, and systematic approach to the studies on the regional process of institutionalization, responsiveness, and adaptability to challenging circumstances. The economic and social indicators of the countries in the region are examined alongside an analysis of the regional institutional architecture. The reader is acquainted with the essence of resilience concerning each category of challenges and the mechanisms of its achievement and strengthening through regional integration. The interdisciplinary character of the book makes it suitable for usage not only by economists but also by lawyers. As such, the book will be helpful to scholars and students of international economics, international security, and policymakers.

Summary: "From one of the world's most highly regarded social scientists, a transformative book on the habits of mind that lead to the best predictions Everyone would benefit from seeing further into the future, whether buying stocks, crafting policy, launching a new product, or simply planning the week's meals. Unfortunately, people tend to be terrible forecasters. As Wharton professor Philip Tetlock showed in a landmark 2005 study, even experts' predictions are only slightly better than chance. However, an important and underreported conclusion of that study was that some experts do have real foresight, and Tetlock has spent the past decade trying to figure out why. What makes some people so good? And can this talent be taught? In Superforecasting, Tetlock and coauthor Dan Gardner offer a masterwork on prediction, drawing on decades of research and the results of a massive, government-funded forecasting tournament. The Good Judgment Project involves tens of thousands of ordinary people--including a Brooklyn filmmaker, a retired pipe installer, and a former ballroom dancer--who set out to forecast global events. Some of the volunteers have turned out to be astonishingly good. They've beaten other benchmarks, competitors, and prediction markets. They've even beaten the collective judgment of intelligence analysts with access to classified information. They are "superforecasters." In this groundbreaking and accessible book, Tetlock and Gardner show us how we can learn from this elite group. Weaving together stories of forecasting successes (the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound) and failures (the Bay of Pigs) and interviews with a range of high-level decision makers, from David Petraeus to Robert Rubin, they show that good forecasting doesn't require powerful computers or arcane methods. It involves gathering evidence from a variety of sources, thinking probabilistically, working in teams, keeping score, and being willing to admit error and change course. Superforecasting offers the first demonstrably effective way to improve our ability to predict the future--whether in business, finance, politics, international affairs, or daily life--and is destined to become a modern classic"-- Provided by publisher.

Business & Economics - Abstract
The European economy is under pressure. Growth is slowing and competitive challenges are rising, all while EU firms navigate the demands of the green transition. Coordinated support from national governments and EU institutions proved critical after the COVID-19 pandemic, helping Europe to bolster its resilience to future shocks and spurring the investment needed to transform and modernise the economy. As a result, progress was made in digitalisation, energy efficiency, decarbonisation and reinforcing supply chains. The pace of change needs to accelerate, however, even as investment becomes harder to sustain. To remain competitive, the European Union and its members need to improve productivity, encourage innovation, address skill gaps, develop new technologies and supporting young, dynamic firms. The report, which is based on the EIB Group’s annual Investment Survey, provides insights on how EU firms are dealing with these pressures, and whether they are taking the necessary steps to transform their businesses. These key findings, provide a short accessible summary of the main report’s messages.

Business & Economics ,Social Science ,Political Science - Abstract
The book is primarily addressed to cultural managers, employees of cultural institutions, cultural animators, impresarios, and independent artists who independently disseminate their work, especially in the Polish-Czech cross-border market for cultural services. Potential audiences also include students, doctoral students, and academics working in the management of cultural institutions, cross-border cooperation, or international relations. The work may also be of use to city and regional leaders in the Polish-Czech borderland, for whom cooperation ‘across borders’ in the field of culture represents a potential opportunity for the development of the cultural offer, urban or regional infrastructure, and better promotion of the cross-border area.``Central European territories have been historically exposed to innumerable social, economic, political, and cultural influences. Moreover, these territories have been crisscrossed by dozens of national, administrative, and cultural boundaries. This book, which deals primarily with cultural aspects of the Polish-Czech borderland naturally, reflects these facts. Moreover, it investigates the cross-border market for cultural services that represents a modern but not adequately researched theme. There is no doubt about the theoretical and practical importance of this book, which will definitely attract many readers.''Professor Jan Sucháček -- Mendel University in Brno (The Czech Republic)``The book guides the reader through the interdisciplinarity and complexity of shaping long-term relationships of cultural operators with Polish and Czech recipients of the cultural offer in the Polish-Czech cross-border market. Understanding such relationships is critical for achieving great performance in the whole cross-border market of cultural services, and the book offers the readers well-structured and useful knowledge in this regard. This book is a must-read for all cultural managers and policymakers.''Professor Mateusz Lewandowski -- Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Poland)

Business & Economics ,Social Science ,Political Science - Abstract
The authors of this monograph were driven to delve into the challenges facing cross-border cooperation amidst crises and disruptions spurred by the adverse impacts witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This included challenges to the implementation of cross-border projects, the activities of Euroregions, and the development of partnerships based on INTERREG programs, as well as other issues related to territorial cooperation. The confluence of the pandemic crisis and broader international geopolitical issues, such as illegal migration to the EU and geopolitical tensions like Russian aggression against Ukraine, underscores the imperative to explore new research avenues focused on bolstering the resilience of cross-border cooperation within the EU.With a focus on identifying key factors shaping the management of cross-border projects co-financed by INTERREG programs, as well as factors influencing partner cooperation, this study aims to fortify cross-border cooperation in the face of future crises and disruptions. The monograph offers valuable insights for institutions and organizations operating in border regions, catering specifically to theoreticians and practitioners engaged in cross-border cooperation. By distilling lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic period, it provides a roadmap for integrating resilience into future cross-border activities and endeavours.

Business & Economics ,Business & Economics / Economics ,Political Science - Abstract
Accountability, good government and public trust are intricately linked. Supreme Audit Institutions fulfil an exceptional role in the public domain, checking if governments spend their money properly. They are like 'watchdogs' for citizens and parliaments with the purpose of auditing public expenditure and examining the effectiveness of policies. They aim to strengthen the trustworthiness of government institutions, all the more so in fragile democracies. They do so, for instance, in striving to disclose cases of corruption, not just in the highest echelons of government, but also in everyday petty bribery. And they can be found counting houses, roads and water taps, to see if government's promises are being kept.On the occasion of the retirement of Saskia J. Stuiveling as the president of the Netherlands Court of Audit, eight (former) heads of audit institutions talk candidly about their work and innovations in the area of public auditing, about how the financial crisis affected their profession, about the advent of open data and about the need for new skills to audit the oil industry. Each of them - Faiza Kefi (Tunisia), Josef Moser (Austria), Terence Nombembe (South Africa), Heidi Mendoza (Philippines), Alar Karis (Estonia), David Walker (USA), John Muwanga (Uganda) and Abdulbasit Turki Saeed (Iraq) - has made a difference in his or her country, often under difficult, adverse and sometimes outright dangerous circumstances.

16. Place Branding and Marketing from a Policy Perspective : Building Effective Strategies for Places

Business & Economics ,Business & Economics / Marketing ,Business & Economics / Marketing / Research - Abstract
As part of an emerging literature on place branding, this book fills the important gap between practice-oriented literature—which lacks in-depth and critical analysis—and technical academic literature—which tends to miss down-to-earth practitioners' concerns and to overlook policy and political contexts. Providing frameworks and knowledge on how to practice place branding effectively, this book anchors place-branding practices in a solid analytical framework. It presents place-branding practices through the lenses of public sector marketing, strategic management, and governance processes and structures, as well as communication tools. Marketing a place is more than creating a logo and a motto; this book presents the key strategic aspects to be considered when promoting a place. Readers will gain knowledge about the most important features of place promotion: the development of brands and marketing campaigns in the public sector, the establishment of dedicated politico-administrative structures, and the increasing involvement of various stakeholders that play a central role as place promoters. This book will be a valuable resource for researchers and postgraduate students across place branding, marketing and management, and urban studies, as well as public management, administration, and policy. The practical conclusions discussed in the book will also appeal to practitioners, business consultants, and people working in public administration and politics.

Business & Economics ,Business & Economics / Economic History ,History / Europe / Great Britain - Abstract
No questions are more pressing today than the ethical dimensions of global capitalism in relation to an unevenly secularized modernity. A Tale of Two Capitalisms offers a timely response to these questions by reexamining the intellectual history of capitalist economics during the nineteenth century. Rajan’s ambitious book traces the neglected relationships between nineteenth-century political economy, anthropology, and literature in order to demonstrate how these discourses buttress a dominant narrative of self-interested capitalism that obscures a submerged narrative within political economy. This submerged narrative discloses political economy’s role in burgeoning theories of religion, as well as its underlying ethos of reciprocity, communality, and just distribution.Drawing on an impressive range of literary, anthropological, and economic writings from the eighteenth through the twenty-first century, Rajan offers an inventive, interdisciplinary account of why this second narrative of capitalism has so long escaped our notice. The book presents an unprecedented genealogy of key anthropological and economic concepts, demonstrating how notions of sacrifice, the sacred, ritual, totemism, and magic remained conceptually intertwined with capitalist theories of value and exchange in both sociological and literary discourses.Rajan supplies an original framework for discussing the ethical ideals that continue to inform contemporary global capitalism and its fraught relationship to the secular. Its revisionary argument brings new insight into the history of capitalist thought and modernity that will engage scholars across a variety of disciplines.

Business & Economics ,Political Science / Public Policy / Cultural Policy - Abstract
What happens when cultural policy turns digital? Digital Transformation and Cultural Policies in Europe analyzes and compares different digital cultural policies of Europe.Through case studies of seven European countries (UK, Germany, Croatia, Sweden, Spain, Norway, and Switzerland) as well as the analysis of EU digital cultural policy, the book investigates what happens when cultural policy gets changed and challenged by digital culture. Based on a thorough discussion of key concepts and analytical perspectives, this collection also offers a unique multi-disciplinary contribution that shows how digital cultural policy is hyperconvergent. These policies contain established ideas of cultural policy – such as democratization, welfare, access, and national, protectionist ideas – brought together within a digital framework, while also adding new cultural policy tools and instruments, such as digital standards, international regulations, directives, etc. The book shows how digital cultural policies are works in progress, struggling to align their aspirations with their effectiveness.Overall, this book provides a valuable tool for understanding the current policy framework of digital culture. It will be of interest not only to scholars and students in cultural and creative industries but also to creative professionals and policy makers. The Open Access version of this book, available at http://www.taylorfrancis.com, has been made available under a Creative Commons [Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC-BY-NC-ND)] 4.0 license.

Business & Economics - Abstract
The supply chain plays a critical role in any sector as it's the core link between the organisation and the supply of resources. It impacts the profitability and reaches of services to consumers. It calls for actions to improve the supply chain by improving the performance and dependence of the supply through the adoption of technology; big data analytics. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's private healthcare can benefit from adopting the technology. The study sought to critically explore previous literature on Big Data Analytics, Supply chain management, and the private healthcare sector and develop recommendations for the KSA case study. The literature review analyzed the available data on SCM, big data analytics, and the private healthcare sector. The behaviours and policies that are needed for the proper adoption of technology were identified and showed the gaps that the technology can solve the adoption of technology issue. Th findings of the study found that some of the factors affecting the adoption of BDA include a shortage of professionals qualified to operate big data analytics in the supply chain, lack of transparency and accountability contributing to environmental barriers and legal constraints, resulting in delays in receiving approvals and permits from laws and regulatory agencies. The opportunities posed include demand forecasting, safety, quality assurance improvement, and indoor monitoring of the process. The results show that utilisation of BDA in KSA private healthcare has more excellent opportunities than challenges. Implementing BDA technology in the supply chain can revolutionise the sector and create room for significant developments. The recommendations include developing primary research by interacting with the managers and experts in the field to find out the current challenges in implementation, analysing the return on investment of focusing on big data analytics, and the duration it will take to make all the changes come to be. KSA's private healthcare supply chain has a more significant opportunity in the supply chain and can benefit from the government's Vision 2030 push toward digitalisation.

Business & Economics - Abstract
" The use of advanced digital technologies such as 3D printing, advanced robotics, drones, big data analytics and artificial intelligence is spreading. These technologies have uncertain implications for labour demand. Affected workers may need to re-train to adapt to changing tasks or new jobs. At the same time, it is unclear whether or not advanced digital technologies encourage firms to invest in workforce re-training. Using firm-level data covering the 27 EU countries, the UK and the US, this paper shows that employers tend to reduce investment in training per employee, after adopting advanced digital technologies. It estimates, with a control function approach, firm-level production functions augmented with two factors: training per employee and digital technology use. We show that these are in fact substitutes in production, implying that an increase in the former negatively affects the marginal productivity of the latter, and that a decline in the cost of introducing advanced digital technologies reduces employers’ investment in training per employee. These findings point to challenges in realising high levels of firm-sponsored training for employees in increasingly digital economies. "

Business & Economics / Banks & Banking ,Business & Economics - Abstract
"Despite the efforts of policy makers to tackle recessions as they happen, there is ample evidence that major economic downturns produce lasting negative effects on real GDP, pointing to the existence of “economic scarring”. This paper takes a fresh look at economic scarring in 26 OECD countries, including 14 EU member states, since 1970 and examines the role played by fiscal policy in limiting these impacts. It finds that higher current expenditure does not mitigate the lasting impact of major economic downturns on real GDP. By contrast, more government investment could help to do so, but this is generally less favoured as a policy response. As a result, scarring effects are significant, confronting governments with higher debt levels, which in turn weigh on the room for manoeuvre in subsequent downturns. In sum, fiscal policy makers face two difficulties in the event of a major economic downturn: adopting the right type of fiscal expansion, and finding the right time to pivot from short-term stabilisation to fiscal consolidation, while protecting investment."

Business & Economics - Abstract
"Financial integration, broadly defined as the intensity of cross-border linkages between financial markets, has the potential to channel capital to where it is most productive, bringing many benefits. However, some financial integration is cyclical, increasing economic upswings and declining during down-turns. Of more long-term benefit is financial integration driven by structural factors such as the reductions in exchange rate risk and the increased regulatory or supervisory convergence associated with the establishment of a currency union, such as Europe’s Economic and Monetary Union. This paper presents a new indicator of de facto financial integration in the European Union. Analysing this indicator alongside different financial and macroeconomic variables makes it possible to separate the impact of cyclical boom-bust shocks from the influence structural factors. It shows that increasing structural financial integration tends to improve risk absorption and reduce income disparities among European countries. However, it also suggests that most of the movements in the indicator reflect business cycle dynamics, rather than structural integration. These results highlight the need to develop further policies to foster structural financial integration in the EU."

Past research suggests that economic crisis lead to a reallocation of resources from less productive to more productive firms, with many firms taking action to boost their own productivity. This paper uses data from the EIB Investment Survey and the ORBIS database to analyse how the COVID-19 crisis affected the level of employment and digitalisation efforts of European firms. Moreover, it examines how these changes relate to the pre-crisis performance of firms, in terms of productivity, digitalisation and growth. It finds that firms were less likely to reduce their number of employees, both in the short and in the long term, if they exhibited higher productivity or higher growth, or were in highly digitalised sectors. It also finds that firms were more likely to increase their use of digital technologies during the crisis if they were already relatively advanced users of digital technologies.

Business & Economics - Abstract
Consumers are an important source of innovation. They primarily innovate out of non-monetary motivations, such as use interest, learning and social rewards. Nonetheless, increasing numbers of such consumer and user innovators recently began diffusing their creations on online marketplaces, where they price and commercialize them. This empirical work reveals that, compared to firms, consumers’ different motivations to innovate affect their pricing decisions systematically in terms of cost, customer quality and competition considerations. Furthermore, it shows that customers’ price evaluations differ consistently when a product is marketed as created by consumers. Two empirical, sequential mixed methods studies were conducted for testing a series of hypotheses derived from fusing pricing research with consumer and user innovation theory. The empirical work was executed in the field of indie video games. Its core quantitative analyses were carried out with data scraped from the Steam computer game marketplace. Interviews and experiments with commercializing consumer innovators and their customers scaffold the findings from the market data analyses. The generated knowledge helps (a) consumer and user innovators to shape and validate their marketing strategies, (b) business administrators to respond to an influx of consumer innovators as competitors, and (c) economists in understanding the market impacts of commercial consumer innovation diffusion.

The role of a leader is to be the conductor of an ensemble, an individual who sees the larger picture and puts the pieces of the puzzle together to obtain that picture. The positive leader finds the hidden talents of those they employ and provide the best footing for those talents to prosper and add to the overall value of the product being produced. When it comes to a negative or toxic leader, keeping employees engaged and in their roles long enough to achieve a final product becomes much of an effort and expense. In this dissertation, toxic leadership refers to a leader who displays traits such as abusive supervision, authoritarian leadership, narcissism, unpredictability, and self-promotion. This type of leader is associated with creating a hostile work environment that leads to employee dissatisfaction, disengagement, demotivation, and ultimately the intent to leave their role. This quantitative cross-sectional non-experimental study explored the relationship between the five toxic leadership traits, employee turnover intentions, and whether that relationship is affected by different cultural typologies. This study garnered a total of 613 survey respondents who were at least 18 years of age and in their role for more than one year. The study findings show a significant relationship between all five toxic leadership traits with turnover intention and that the relationship is so significant that it negates any influence by the cultural typologies on employees’ turnover intentions. The study results are of interest to human resource managers, organizational managers, and future leaders when developing training, policies, and recruiting leaders and managers.

Business & Economics - Abstract
In recent years, scholars have recognized the importance of innovation for corporate performance as well as business performance. Innovation is increasingly popular and expected in modern day outsourcing relationships. In this review, this emerging phenomenon of innovation will be examined in the context of business process outsourcing (BPO). The purpose of this paper is to explore the factors of evolution of innovation in BPO sector. This study was driven by the lack of studies on the source of innovation in BPO sectors despite the importance of innovation as one of the primary sources of competitive advantage. Furthermore, as BPO organizations are serving various business processes, it could be expected that each organization could pursue and emphasize different aspects of innovation comparing to others. Therefore, the pursuit in exploring the source and factors in making innovation evolves in an outsourcing organization becomes the priority in this research. A survey questionnaire was sent, and data was gathered from 70 employees in Accenture, a BPO organization in Malaysia. Several findings were found through data analysis using SPSS tool. First, there is a significant number of respondents agree that scope of innovation and client’s expectation contributes to the evolution of innovation. The second finding indicated that there is a stronger correlation between the evolution of innovation with client’s expectation than for scope of innovation.

Business & Economics - Abstract

Economists occupy leading positions in many different sectors including central and private banks, multinational corporations, the state and the media, as well as serving as policy consultants on everything from health to the environment and security. Power and Influence of Economists explores the interconnected relationship between power, knowledge and influence which has led economics to be both a source and beneficiary of widespread power and influence. The contributors to this book explore the complex and diverse methods and channels that economists have used to exert and expand their influence from different disciplinary and national perspectives. Four different analytical views on the role of power and economics are taken: first, the role of economic expert discourses as power devices for the formation of influential expertise; second, the logics and modalities of governmentality that produce power/knowledge apparatuses between science and society; third, economists as involved in networks between academia, politics and the media; and forth, economics considered as a social field, including questions of legitimacy and unequal relations between economists based on the detention of various capitals. The volume includes case studies on a variety of national configurations of economics, such as the US, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Mexico and Brazil, as well as international spaces and organisations such as the IMF. This book provides innovative research perspectives for students and scholars of heterodox economics, cultural political economy, sociology of professions, network studies, and the social studies of power, discourse and knowledge.

Business & Economics ,Business & Economics / Economics ,Business & Economics / Economic History - Abstract
The Nordic Model is the 20th-century Scandinavian recipe for combining stable democracies, individual freedom, economic growth and comprehensive systems for social security. But what happens when Sweden and Finland – two countries topping global indexes for competitiveness, productivity, growth, quality of life, prosperity, and equality – start doubting themselves and their future? Is the Nordic Model at a crossroads? Historically, consensus, continuity, social cohesion, and broad social trust have been hailed as key components for the success and for the self-images of Sweden and Finland. In the contemporary, however, political debates in both countries are increasingly focused on risks, threats, and worry. Social disintegration, political polarization, geopolitical anxieties, and threat of terrorism are often dominant themes. This book focuses on what appears to be a paradox: countries with low income differences, high faith in social institutions, and relatively high cultural homogeneity becoming fixated on the fear of polarization, disintegration, and diminished social trust. Unpacking the presentist discourse of "worry" and a sense of interregnum at the face of geopolitical tensions, digitalization, and globalization, as well as challenges to democracy, the chapters take steps back in time and explore the current conjecture through the eyes of historians and social scientists, addressing key aspects of and challenges to both the contemporary and future Nordic Model. In addition, the functioning and efficacy of the participatory democracy and current protocols of decision-making are debated. This work is essential reading for students and scholars of the welfare state, social reforms, and populism, as well as Nordic and Scandinavian studies.

In the last two decades, the quest for a widely accepted definition of social enterprise has been a central issue in a great number of publications. The main objective of the ICSEM Project on which this book is based was to show that the social enterprise field would benefit much more from linking conceptualisation efforts to the huge diversity of social enterprises than from an additional and ambitious attempt at providing an encompassing definition. Starting from a hypothesis that could be termed "the impossibility of a unified definition", the ICSEM research strategy relied on bottom-up approaches to capture the social enterprise phenomenon in its local and national contexts. This strategy made it possible to take into account and give legitimacy to locally embedded approaches, while simultaneously allowing for the identification of major social enterprise models to delineate the field on common grounds at the international level.Social Enterprise in Western Europe –the third volume in a series of four ICSEM-based books on social enterprise worldwide – will serve as a key reference and resource for teachers, researchers, students, experts, policy makers, journalists and others who want to acquire a broad understanding of the social enterprise and social entrepreneurship phenomena as they emerge and develop in this region.

Business & Economics - Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the practice of selling and financing real-estate projects before completion in Saudi Arabia during the period 2009-2019. The practice is called off-plan sales or financing, which is first regulated by resolution no. 73 of 2009, modified in 2012 resolution no. 47 and last resolution passed on 2016 resolution no. 536. The policy restricted and governed off-plan practice in the country and created new licensing requirements for off-plan development activities. The market implication with the implementation of the policy is the focus of the study. The policy regulated new requirements and stakeholders to implement the policy. The mechanism that Saudi Arabia has applied had progressed in the study period with several implications of the market performance. The role of public policy evolution is to understand the implication of the policy in the market. Saudi Arabia, with low ownership rates, thrives on increasing the affordability of real-estate. Off-plan, as a strategic solution for housing in Saudi Arabia, was used by regulators to promote off-plan activities by bridging the voids in the supply and demand, also enhance off-plan policy practice in the country. Managed by an off-plan policy committee named “Wafi” program in the Ministry of Housing, a set of requirements and development procedures were passed by the committee, which had its implication on the market and real-estate development practice in Saudi Arabia. The research was conducted using a descriptive methodology and a survey. Qualitative research was conducted using close-ended survey questions. Twelve participants were selected with four different groups of off-plan policy users. The first group of 8 buyers, 3 developers, 2 bankers and 2 regulators were recruited. The buyers were selected on different project statuses. The other groups were selected with experience with the off-plan policy covering the first period of the policy implementation and the last period of the policy implementation. The hypothesis was developed to evaluate four aspects regarding the policy, which are economic perspective, buyer perspective, development perspective, and market perspective. The questionnaire was developed to answer the research question of evaluating the implication of off-plan policy in Saudi Arabia between 2009 and 2019. The findings show that respondents believe that off-plan financing confirms the first hypothesis H1 off-plan Stimulating entrepreneurial market dynamics. The results show that Off-plan policy contributed in increasing investment in the market by local and foreign investors, which encouraged banks and developers to utilize Off-plan policy financing. The second hypothesis is confirmed by the H2 Off-plan policy alleviate development risk for developers. The finding shows an agreement on the role of the off-plan policy to govern the development practice in the country. Result show participants agree on the role of the policy helping developers complete on time and access to fund. On the third hypothesis H3 buyers’ rights were protected by the off-plan policy finding confirm the hypothesis. The participants view confirm the role of policy protecting buyers right, project specification and help buyers chose trusted developers. On the last hypothesis H4 Off-plan policy application reduced property price finding shows confirmation of participants view on the role of policy reducing property price. The result shows participants agreement on the role of the policy to increase affordability and reduce property price. The results confirm the literature on the role of public policy in the market. It is also an area of research that is not researched in academia widely. The literature confirms the importance of the results regarding the implication of the policy in the market. The literature also explains the results background on the policy implications in Saudi Arabia during the period 2009-2019. This study is the first focused research on off-plan policy in Saudi Arabia. With fewer attempts on off-plan policy from a legal perspective. The study answers the implication of off-plan policy on several dimensions related to the professional practice of off-plan property development in Saudi Arabia. The finding answers viewpoint of off-plan users, which policymakers can use to evaluate the policy implication and used as a reference for off-plan practice across the globe.

Business & Economics ,Business & Economics / Development / Sustainable Development ,Business & Economics / Business Ethics - Abstract
Motivation in Organisations: Searching for a Meaningful Work-Life Balance extends the current motivation models in business education to include motives of human behaviour that have been neglected for decades. It debunks some of the myths about human motivation (self-interest as the dominant factor, amorality and non-spirituality) and explains why this approach to teaching business is erroneous and leads to wrong and harmful practices in many organisations. In a very personal and engaging style, the author presents a "map of motivations", based on a humanistic approach to management. This includes the latest findings of Abraham H. Maslow supported by sound philosophical reflections and modern research. He also presents specific ways of putting the framework into practice, sharing stories from students and professionals of how this framework has helped them better understand their own motivations and look at their daily work in a much more meaningful way. The book is highly relevant to students and researchers in humanistic management, people management, organisational behaviour, business ethics, corporate social responsibility and sustainability. In short, this text will be truly inspiring to anyone who wants to reflect on motivations in organisations and how to achieve a better work-life balance.

Responsible Innovation encourages innovators to work together with stakeholders during the research and innovation process, to better align the outcomes of innovation with the values, needs and expectations of society. Assessing the benefits and costs of Responsible Innovation is crucial for furthering the responsible conduct of science, technology and innovation. However, there is until now only limited academic work on Responsible Innovation assessment. This book fills this lacuna. Assessment of Responsible Innovation: Methods and Practices presents tools for measuring, monitoring, and reporting upon the Responsible Innovation process and the social, environmental, scientific, and economic impacts of innovations. These tools help innovators to mitigate risk and to strengthen their strategic planning. This book aligns assessment tools and practices with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The prospects as well as the limitations of various Responsible Innovation assessment approaches and tools are discussed, as well as their applicability in various industry contexts. The book brings together leading scholars in the field to present the most comprehensive review of Responsible Innovation tools. It articulates the importance of assessment and value creation, the different metrics and monitoring systems that can be deployed and the reporting mechanisms, including the importance of effective communication.

Based on the industrial revolution model, the informational and service age’s main challenge, also falsely named the digital revolution, is to generate economic and social value and reinvent business models. Unfortunately, Solow’s paradox is still valid despite the work of Brynjolfsson, who has tried to prove the contrary generating a kind of Halo effect among the research community. The purpose of this integrative literature review was to understand better the arguments put forward and conceptualize the real stakes of this new revolution, which impacts almost every organization. The reasons why Solow’s paradox is still valid could be found among three primary syndromes: technology fantasy, IT engineering approaches instead of IS engineering, and a lack of executive governance, fueled by a poor understanding and mastering of the critical building blocks of this new Age. On one side, they are the raw material: data-information-knowledge, and on the other side, the tool and its usage. Therefore, clarifying the concepts of IT, digital, and information systems is vital. Compared to traditional IT budgets, assessing digital and IS budgets gives a brand-new perspective and provides three main levers to optimize and reinvent current organizations: information technologies, data, and new digital concepts. Based on different cases, we describe how to design the optimized digital company by distinguishing the machine (“M”) on the “producer side” from the “consumer side” with its different types of usage: Machine to Machine (“M2M”), Human to Machine (“H2M”) and Human to Human (“H2H”). The results are presented in both the form of conceptual reasoning and with practical exploratory cases and models. Finally, we introduced the theory of nanoeconomics, which, together with mesoeconomics fostered by GAFAM, could well marginalize traditional macro and microeconomics.

How can the relationship between a family and family businesses be designed in a long-lasting and effective manner, so that the survivability can be improved over generations and the long-term continuation of the company can be assured? A family constitution offers the business family an instrument both to prevent and master destructive family conflicts. It is widely accepted that that this regulation system need not have an official character but should be rather morally binding. However, entrepreneurial families question which factors guarantee that the rules, determined in a family constitution, are followed by all family members. This issue will be analysed in Marco Henry V. Neumueller’s work.

In current highly competitive business environment, having well performing and inspired employees are the main success factor for any organization. In realizing that, in one hand researchers argue well-designed reward strategy plays the major role through enhancing the performance of employees. In the other hand, other scholars claim that rewards have nothing to do with employees’ performance. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of reward management system on employee performance in the case of IE Network Solution PLC. in Addis Ababa. This study was conducted through a mixed research approach with in both a descriptive and explanatory research design. A total of 80 self administered questionnaires were distributed to the all staff members of the company. 77 questionnaires were returned which gave response rate 96.25%. It was valid to run the data analysis. Therefore the descriptive, correlation and multiple regression analysis were computed through SPSS version 23. The correlation analysis result shows that promotion and employee recognition positively and moderately associated with performance of employees. However work condition salary have a positive but weak relation with employee performance. The multiple regression analysis revealed promotion (β=0.313), employee recognition (β=0.319), work condition (β=0.256), and salary (β=0.189) has a significant effect on employee performance. Business & Economics ,Business & Economics / Management - Abstract
Purpose - There is plenty of existing literature on strategic performance measurement and management (SPMM). However, most of them concentrate on the private sector. This thesis trilogy explores the subject primarily from the rarely tackled lens of the public sector, and especially in fragile periphery countries. The first paper assesses conceptualisation and application of SPMM in the ‘New Public Management’ (NPM) context through pursuing four SPMM dimensions. The second paper explores strategic alignment as a sine qua non for successful SPMM systems as contained in gluts of literature by critically assessing architecture and institutionalisation of SPMM in the public sector of a fragile periphery country from NPM perspective. The third and final instalment further investigates application and evolution of SPMM practices in public entities (PEs) in a resource constricted, fragile and disruptive external environment. Design/Methodology/Approach – This thesis mixes two protocols for field research and also adopts a systemic literature review. The first paper is based on a systematic literature review protocol while the second and third papers utilised a comprehensive web-based survey to obtain and analyse quantitative and qualitative data from 21 public entities. This was complemented by a one-day post-survey workshop in which survey participants discussed the preliminary results and unanimously validated the research results. Findings – The first paper revealed that SPMM experienced phased parallel evolution starting with private sector around 3rd century, then the public sector around 1900 and finally third sector around 1960s. SPMM convergence in the three sectors then occurred around 1990s with implementation of contemporary multi-dimensional systems based on “adoption and adaptation” to the various sectoral, organisational and country nuances and in response to supervening environmental and contextual trends. The second paper established the existence of a strong SPMM architecture and concluded that public sectors have strong fundamentals for institutionalisation of SPMM systems. However, overall, the systems fall short of realising levels required for the classic high performance organisation due to some key attributes which have potential for improvement. The third paper further confirmed that public sector SPMM practices followed literature recommendations and are fairly aligned to international best practice. The study country’s fragile status, notwithstanding, implies that public service executives must review their SPMM systems more regularly and rigorously compared to their counterparts in “normal” countries to cope with both global external discontinuities and country-specific challenges of operating in a country facing severe developmental challenges due to unembellished socio-political turmoil and economic instability considered the most catastrophic economic collapse for any country outside a war zone in global history. Research Limitations – The study was confined to one jurisdiction (country) which, based on traditional criticisms of case study strategy, may constrain generalisation of results on SPMM practices in fragile periphery countries. Some dimensions such as culture and other behavioral aspects are not considered and may impact the SPMM and strategic objectives of the public sector and this could have hindered some anticipated study outcomes. Practical Implications – SPMM is a highly practitioner dependent field and this research attempts to provide a fair balance in bridging the gap between public sector SPMM theory and practice. Despite the country’s fragility, the study revealed that the public sector can use its current strong progress as a spring-board to the next level on the SPMM journey to build robust, more effective and adaptive systems once the country’s challenges are addressed. Originality/value – The first paper is, perhaps, one of the most comprehensive and unique papers covering progression of SPMM from the pre-industrial age through the modern digital age. The second and third papers constitute arguably the first and largest study on public sector SPMM practices in fragile periphery countries, if not the entire sub-Saharan Africa region, which adds to scant literature and advances the theory on public sector SPMM. Paper type(s) – Paper I is a theoretical paper and Paper II and III are empirical studies
