Chapter 5 of the book "An APEC Trade Agenda? The Political Economy of a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific" is presented. It examines the strategies of the free trade agreements (FTA) of Japan and attempts to identify the possible benefits of the Free Trade Area of Asia-Pacific (FTAAP). Furthermore, the article reviews the motives behind the country's strategies and the impacts of FTAs and the FTAAP by referring to the results of simulation analysis.
