In the hi-tech industries the emerging bottleneck(s) will restrict the whole production line and influence the factories' capability to make money, especially in Taiwan where OEM is the prevail way to earn low margin. In order to solve the problem efficiently, TOC can provide on-going improvement to the work sites. This paper presents the thermodynamic equilibrium predictions for steam reforming of vegetable oil in a thermal plasma reformer. An optimal operating condition has been chosen at temperature of 800°C and mole flow ratio of vegetable oil to water of 1:18 using software simulation. The predicted results show that mole fraction of hydrogen reaches, respectively, 61% and 63% on wet and dry bases for proton exchange membrane fuel cell applications. In addition, the total mole fractions of fuels for solid oxide fuel cell applications approaches 95% and even over 98% on wet and dry bases, respectively. These predicted data will be compared with experimental data conducted with a 1kWe thermal plasma reformer at Clean Energy R&D Center, Da-Yeh University in Taiwan, R.O.C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Taiwan, according to the National Fire Agency, Ministry of the Interior, R.O.C, there are, on average, up to 5000 fire accidents per year, and many people die in fire accidents. An early fire detection system and an effective guidance system for fire evacuation can reduce fire casualties greatly. The purpose of this paper is to develop a system of early fire detection and evacuation navigation. The Science and Engineering Building at the Chaoyang University of Technology is used as the test building. We implement a fast and accurate system of early fire detection using a wireless sensor network as well as temperature alarms and smoke alarms. With an algorithm that involves temperature differences and information reported by individual sensors, this system can determine the optimal evacuation path in a very short period. With the rapid transition of industrial structure, the product life cycle is shortening continuously. In order to compete against competitors in the fierce market, a firm has to keep developing new technology to differentiate itself from others. The sustainable development of high-tech industry in Taiwan has promoted the advance of Taiwan's socio-economic status and has led Taiwan to become an influential player in the global high-tech market. While new products are the result of new technology, new generation of equipment, with upgraded technology, is the means to manufacture these new products. For example, the advancement of technology in the semiconductor industry has shifted the wafer size from eight inches to twelve inches, and upgraded equipment is necessary to produce large-sized wafers. Nevertheless, the cost of high-tech equipment is usually high, amounted to almost 70% of investment. Therefore, the equipment must be operated and maintained carefully to generate the highest possible profit for the firm. Additionally, most equipment suppliers are located in foreign countries (such as in Japan, the USA and Europe). It is crucial to transfer equipment technology completely from foreign equipment suppliers, taking into account the differences in cultures, languages and perceptions. This paper focuses on the process of technology transfer, in which the buyer-supplier relationship, technology transfer and knowledge management must be examined. Factors that promote the process of technology transfer are reviewed through literature first, and Delphi method is applied to select the most critical factors for technology transfer. A network for the efficient technology transfer process is constructed, and fuzzy analytic network process (FANP) is applied to obtain experts' opinion through pairwise comparison and fuzzy set theory, to generate a supermatrix, and to calculate the relative importance of the critical factors.
