In Spain, by far the most widely-used system for municipal waste disposal is landfill. However, in recent years several incinerators have come into operation, with their activities under strict supervision because of the existing controversy which has grown around this type of facility. This paper gives a brief outline of the incineration plants in service in Spain, and a large part of it is devoted to the experience gained in all areas by the Tarragona incineration plant over its ten years of operation.
