This chapter provides an overview of Sri Aurobindo's psychological and spiritual thought. It shows how the thought provides an organizing framework for Western psychology. With these three developments in consciousness-body, heart, and mind-Sri Aurobindo believed that the world is now ready for the next development of consciousness, the emergence of Spirit. Indra Sen was the first psychologist to realize the importance of integral yoga for psychology. Cortright, a key writer in the field of integral psychology, has published a series of papers and the book Integral Psychology, which further elucidated the integration of Western psychology with integral yoga. Integral yoga sees four levels of human consciousness - the outer being, inner being, true being, and central being. The level of mind is subdivided in integral psychology into physical mind, emotional mind, and mind proper. Most of current academic psychology research, together with cognitive-behavioral psychology, focuses on the level of mind. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
