Established companies are increasingly opening their innovation systems to stay ahead of the competition. In this context, collaboration with innovative and agile start-ups are gaining continuously more importance. In the past established companies often used common corporate venturing methods such as incubators, accelerators, or corporate venture capital for collaboration. Compared to these methods the venture client model is relatively new and was invented by BMW employees in 2014. Using the venture client model, established companies become early clients of the start-ups even it is still a venture to do so. Together they carry out a pilot project to develop a proof of concept and validate it under real conditions. If successful, they enter a long-term collaboration to integrate the start-up's solution into products, processes, or business models of the established company. The aim of this paper is to sum up the current literature and set a foundation for future research on this topic. Therefore, we conduct a systematic literature review. As a result, we provide a definition of the venture client model, describe characteristics, present advantages from the perspective of established companies and start-ups. In addition, we summarize the state of research regarding strategy, process, and organizational structure and for the venture client model. In terms of strategy, future research should elaborate defining elements of a strategy as well as ways to integrate the venture client model into the corporate innovation-ecosystem. Focusing on the process additional research is needed on a venture client reference process and its integration into the corporate's core processes. Referring to the organizational structure a reference architecture for a venture client unit as well as its positioning within the organization (e.g., innovation management or corporate strategy) should be further investigated. Business Process Maturity can be defined as the „degree of explicit definition, management, measurement, control and effectiveness" of organisational processes (Humphrey, 1987, p. 1-13) or their ability to systematically provide better business results (McCormack, Johnson, 2001, p. 12). The practical implementation of the above concept is reflected trough Business Process Maturity Models (BPMMs). They have been designed in order to enable companies to shift their business process management from „as-is" state, where process are undefined and underperforming to a desired „to-be" state, in which processes are being continuously improved. The available literature proofs that many review papers on BPMMs, in particular those issued before 2010 lacks an extensive set of systematic literature review or analysis criteria. For example, the authors didn't pay attention whether the analysed models focused on a single process, a specific group of processes or all organisational processes. Often, there was also no distinction between organisational and process maturity, which appeared in the analysed models as separate concepts, or different types of maturity (e.g. process, project, supply chain, etc.). Some systematic attempts for analysing BPMMs were undertaken by e.g. A. Van Looy (2010, p. 687-697), M. Rosemann and J. vom Brocke (2010, pp 105-122), as well as M. Röglinger, J. Pöppelbuß and J. Becker (2012, p. 328-346), however still significant limitation of these research can be enumerated. As a result of the identified research gap, this papers aims at performing a systematic literature review based on transparent and sound criteria. The paper is divided into three main parts. The first part (introduction) focuses on presenting briefly the „state-of-the-art" regarding the Business Process Maturity Models research. The second part provides insights into the methodology of performing the systematic literature review. This paper examines how human and organizational factors need to be designed to achieve strong technological maturity of either the products or the production process. In a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA), a combination of intensive training and strong worker participation is found to be associated with strong technological maturity in the two organizational contexts: firms with a strong entrepreneurial culture and in large firms oriented towards customer-oriented innovation. With the continuous development of China's economy, environmental problems are becoming more and more prominent. Since the 18th Party Congress, environmental protection has been incorporated into the national strategy, also the government has come up with development ideas of innovation, harmony, green, open and sharing during the 13th five-year period. As the microeconomic entities, companies are the main resource of environmental pollution. Therefore, enterprise have become the focus of environmental pollution control. Enterprises’ choices of environmental strategy have important meanings to the whole society's economic and environmental development. It is important to take the study on the influential factors of proactive environmental strategy choice under the constant restraint of environmental rules. In this context, the external environment puts forward high requirements on the entrepreneurs. Facing the changes and demands of environmental strategies, entrepreneurs have to identify risks and opportunities and make decisions to respond in good time. However, the different characteristics and traits of entrepreneurs also influence the coping styles and strategies of entrepreneurs facing changes of environment. In addition, the differences in the nature of the entrepreneur's enterprise have an impact on the implementation of the relevant business strategy. The enterprise ownership is worth further exploration. Based on the review on the theory of upper echelons, the paper selected entrepreneurs from 6 kinds of industry and 126 companies as the research objects. The paper explored the education level and work experience of entrepreneurs’ characteristics impact on proactive environmental strategy, and investigated the effect of enterprise ownership on the relationship between entrepreneurs’ characteristics and proactive environmental strategy. The paper considered the enterprise ownership as state-owned and non-state-owned. The results showed that entrepreneurs’ environmental education level and environmental work experience have a positive impact on proactive environmental strategy. The results of the regression analysis of the moderating variables show that the different ownership of the enterprise will have different moderating effects on the influence of entrepreneurs’ characteristics on proactive environmental strategy. That is to say, the regulation effect of non-state-owned enterprises on the relationship between entrepreneurs’ characteristics on proactive environmental strategy is greater than that of state-owned enterprises. On this basis, this paper puts forward suggestion as follows: at the entrepreneurial level, entrepreneurs should pay attention to practical knowledge and ability, to accumulate environmental experience, to respond to changes in the environment effectively. At the same time, not only should the entrepreneur have a correct understanding of the environmental protection, but also they have a strong sense of responsibility and mission to transform the concept of environmental protection for practical action, taking environmental protection as a long-term strategic mission. At the government level, they need to help and support enterprises to enhance their experience and innovative ability to cope with external challenges actively. This paper is concerned with designing a practical roadmap for microand small enterprises to build resilience to digital disruption. The paper is based on theoretical studies of strategic management, innovation management, design theory and theories on digital disruption from which two initial models of resilience to digital disruption for MSE is proposed. These models are based on the general observation that MSE are likely to fall victims to digital disruption because of their lack of strategic horizon, innovation capacity and agility. Because of this, a new and more dynamic framework well suited for MSE is proposed in the paper. This framework however needs to be further developed into a practical roadmap for resilience to digital disruption and tested empirically which is intended to be the next step of this research. The literature on 'green business models' is rapidly developing these years. This paper suggests that much existing work on green business models lacks a deeper theoretical understanding of eco-innovation and the green economy. The paper forwards an evolutionary economic perspective on green business models. This perspective departs in important ways from other approaches to green business models the implications of which are sought clarified and discussed in the paper. The paper argues for the need to link up green business model innovation to aggregate green economic change. The paper posits that the greening of the economy has reached such a stage of maturity where a generic 'green business model' is apparent. The paper points to eight characteristics of eco-innovation on the basis of which key changes to the business model are identified and schematised for the different stages of the green economic change. Within Industry 4.0, digital platforms are expected to bring potentials for a multitude of purposes. However, many industrial manufacturers expect challenges in creating and managing digital platforms. Owing to the lack of research, the paper investigates potentials and challenges of Industry 4.0 platforms and derives strategic implications. The sample comprises 102 German and Austrian industrial enterprises, which are examined qualitatively using in-depth expert interviews. The paper finds that, alongside economic benefits and a required legal and technical framework for digital platforms, social capital theory provides a valid perspective regarding potentials and challenges of Industry 4.0 platforms. The article focuses on the engagement of established brands with activist claims, particularly in the context of entertainment brands targeting generation alpha and millennial parents. Over the last decades, business model innovation and effectuation have been widely discussed in the literature. While effectuation represents a behavioural approach for entrepreneurs using available means for founding a start-up, business model innovation represents an approach to creating a business model with long-term competitive advantages. Designing a business model requires to focus on four dimensions: customer, value proposition, value chain and revenue mechanism. A business model innovation is referred to when an innovative characteristic can be attributed to two of the four dimensions. Both effectuation and business model innovation are valuable for entrepreneurs who are pursuing growth in dynamic and uncertain business environments. This paper elaborates on effectuation and its potential effects on business model innovation. The addressed research questions are: Is the effectuation logic a facilitating aspect of business model innovation? And to what extent do entrepreneurs apply effectuation logic and design innovative business models? The underlying data consists of business plans of 25 finalists of a Swiss innovation competition with more than 100 startups from different business sectors every year. First, the chosen sample is reviewed on the extent of the application of effectuation based on selected behavioural criteria. Second, the sample is analysed for evidence of business model innovation based on the above-mentioned business model dimensions and their innovative potential. Third, the link between the two approaches is highlighted to gain insights into the potential influence of the applied decision logic to develop innovative business models, thus providing an understanding of how entrepreneurs could leverage the advantages of effectuation in the context of innovating the business model. Further research will focus on examining critical success factors of entrepreneurial behaviour in the applied business model types and their correlations with business performance. Many advantages are attributed to participatory enterprise modelling as compared to conventional modelling and elicitation approaches. Among them are an improved quality of the models, better acceptance of the modelling results by the stakeholders and co-creation of models by different stakeholders. Although these advantages were observed in a number of modelling projects, there is not much empirical work comparing conventional and participatory modelling in real-world cases. Much work on participatory modelling is more exploratory and argumentative than explanatory and conclusive. From a pragmatic perspective, one effect of this situation is missing decision criteria when to do participatory and when conventional modelling. This paper aims at contributing to this research area by investigating what factors should be taken into account when deciding for or against participatory enterprise modelling. The approach taken is to analyze successful and non-successful cases from both participatory and conventional modelling in order to identify such decision factors. The main contributions of this paper are (1) an approach for analyzing enterprise modelling cases consisting of criteria derived from literature on enterprise modelling, (2) comparison of conventional and participatory modelling cases according to the analysis criteria and (3) a detailed discussion of criteria relevant for the decision for/against participatory or conventional modelling. In the new global digital economy, a holistic view of digitalization has become central for all non-profit and for-profit institutions. Recent developments in digital initiatives have heightened the need to investigate holistic digitalization. This paper aims to develop a holistic view to digitalization consisting of several fundamental levels for strategically oriented digitalization. These include digital strategy, digital transformation of business models, and digital implementation. Each level consists of an approach including a procedure model and main content. Combined with our previous work, we applied semi-structured interviews to develop an initial, grounded theory for a holistic view to digitalization. Earlier research showed firms with superior IT governance (ITG) have more than 20% higher profits than firms with poor governance given the same strategic objectives. This article forms part of an on-going independent research project on effectiveness and maturity of ITG. It is known that corporate governance (CG) and ITG are related. However, little is known on how this relation works. This relation can be described in several ways; for example, from a performance (added value) or a conformance (rules and regulation) perspective. Current governance research is largely focused on hard governance. Hard governance refers to elements like structures and processes. Soft governance is related to social aspects like human behavior and organizational culture. This study focuses on the relation between CG and ITG from a performance perspective and is based on a systematic literature review and a series of ten case studies. In the case studies an adjusted assessment instrument for hard and soft ITG was used. A systematic literature review was conducted to validate the relevance of the focus areas of this instrument for CG. The instrument used in the case studies was adjusted with a corporate perspective to be able to compare results from a corporate and a departmental (business and IT) perspective. Our research showed that an integrated approach for ITG and CG is needed, and what focus areas need attention in this relation. The value of this paper is twofold: It describes the basic outlines of the focus areas relating ITG and CG. Some of which are not yet getting a lot of attention in current research, especially continuous improvement and the informal organization. It lists the results from a series of ten cases studies, in which twelve focus areas have been discussed with sixty participants from a departmental (IT and business perspective) and a corporate perspective. Information Technology (IT) solutions have become a key enabling tool in businesses. As the investment in IT continues to grow, there has been an ongoing debate on the need for a structured and evaluative approach to the effective governance of IT solutions. Achieving key IT Governance (ITG) outcomes is consistently ranked as one of the top concerns of management. Within the last decade, motivated by technological advancements, we have witnessed significant changes in the IT landscape. Previous studies about ITG seem to have concentrated predominantly on structure, processes, and mechanisms. The field appears to lack research on the current role and effectiveness of ITG. The paper reports on a systematic literature review of ITG. It proposes conceptual models to determine the role and effectiveness of ITG practices. The review was based on 121 relevant journal articles, conference papers, and industry (or professional bodies) published reports. The qualitative analysis of the eligible 75 articles was conducted in two stages. The first stage involved the identification of factors within a selected subset of articles. The second phase continued with the qualitative analysis of the remaining articles validating the identified factors. Based on the analysis of the final 75 (out of 171) sources, the paper proposes a conceptual model of ITG effectiveness that takes into consideration both internal and external influences. The paper contributes to the theory of ITG by proposing a conceptual model of three broad themes of influencers representing both practitioners' and strategists' views - including ITG maturity, strategic alignment of IT and business, and organisational performance influenced by IT. In September 2015, the Timor-Leste Government adopted the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Government then set up a 2015-2030 “roadmap” that aimed to attain these goals by “harmonising” them with the existing 2011-2030 Strategic Development Plan (SDP) that is a top-down government process underpinned by the maximum economic growth model (with its consequent devastating social and ecological consequences). This paper uses an established eco-sustainable framework to assess how effectively this roadmap has been implemented, identifying the successes and limitations in the process. In recognising the major challenges TL faces in achieving the SDGs under the spectre of the SDP, the paper then examines a paradigm shift. This shift requires a bottom-up approach that can better address the challenges of achieving sustainability and resilience through private business and social enterprises which embrace innovation management practices that support sustainability-driven innovation. The problem of researching into the importance of business strategy becomes particularly prominent in the conditions of the digital economy, as an economy that functions primarily through digital technology. The digital economy has influenced the creation of the digital transformation strategy concept, which consequently influenced changes in shaping the organizational structure. The main purpose of the paper is to indicate the impact that digital transformation has on the process of formulating new corporate strategic directions. Bearing this in mind, the goal of the paper is to highlight potential strategic directions of digital business transformation in the conditions of the penetration of digital technologies. The basic assumption of the paper is that a further path of digital transformation is directed towards the construction of digital platforms created through the mutual collaboration of networked stakeholders on joint creation and delivery values, although existing companies in digital transformation usually start from market penetration, through the strategy of developing digital products and the strategy of developing digital markets. Today's era is characterized as the "digital transformation era". Digital processes and information systems are used in every aspect of social and business activity. The use of information technology over the internet is so extensive that we interact with it daily without even recognizing it. The technological advances can offer a plethora of improvements for the supply chain processes, especially in the field of distribution planning and execution. At the same time, the development of advanced information systems for usage in urban freight transportation operations is still at an early stage. The scope of this paper is to present the technological content of an advanced routing and scheduling system for transportation and delivery of goods. The system focuses on the routing and scheduling problem in urban areas, as city logistics have become a complex environment for companies to deliver their goods. The presented system deals with both static and dynamic routing and scheduling problems. More specifically, the system can create initial routing plans based on orders, available vehicles, time windows, and traffic forecasting data. Afterward, during the execution of the plans, the system can monitor the fleet, detect deviations from the original plans, and finally, perform rerouting operations when needed. After a brief presentation of the system's modules and functionality, the paper describes thoroughly the technologies used to develop the system. The technological elements of the system are integrated into a cloud environment offering a system that is easy to maintain and can effectively support logistics companies' distribution activities. The system is provided as a Software as a Service with data being maintained on a central host and processed on the cloud. Therefore, logistics companies that decide to implement it can achieve faster, more accurate and more cost-efficient distribution activities while ensuring better customer service. Despite the attention process innovation draws in the natural sciences, the process innovation literature does not address the way underlying scientific theory makes possible new process technologies that lead to the development of successful new products. This paper focuses on the cases where this theory is present or absent, and presents insights into how it impels a specialized applied science toward success. We choose cases of the development of two new compound semi conductive materials, gallium nitride (the "theory case") and zinc selenide (the "no theory" case) used for development of blue LED to identify the role of what we call the "scientific seed theory." Our findings show that strong theory causes the expansion of specialty scientific knowledge that leads to success. In contrast, its lack does not cause the expansion. Finally, we offer a model of the theory's role that could help business strategists identify opportunities to enter industries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
