In this work, molten salt method was used to prepare highly dispersed graphitic carbon nitride(WSGCN), and chemical reduction method was used to load Cu nanoparticles on WSGCN to prepare Cu-WSGCN composites. FTIR, XRD, XPS, TEM, SEM, ICP-AES, UV-vis DRS, PL spectroscopy, ESR and EIS characterization methods were carried out to investigate the structure and photoelectric properties of the photocatalyst. The results show that compared with WSGCN, Cu-WSGCN has a larger light absorption range and a narrower band gap. In addition, the presence of Schottky barriers at the interface between Cu nanoparticles and WSGCN promotes charge transfer and separation of photogenerated carriers, which improves the photocatalytic ability. The uranium removal rate of Cu-WSGCN composite is relatively high(81.07 %) when the load of Cu nanoparticles is 1%. After three cycles of photocatalytic uranium reduction experiments, the uranium removal rate by 1%Cu-WSGCN can still reach 75.96%, which provides a useful reference for the development of novel materials with high efficiency photocatalytic removal of uranium.

Abstract Trivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (tOPV) has been withdrawn and instead an inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) and bivalent type 1 and type 3 OPV (bOPV) sequential immunization schedule has been implemented since 2016, but no immune persistence data are available for this polio vaccination strategy. This study aimed to assess immune persistence following different polio sequential immunization schedules. Venous blood was collected at 24, 36, and 48 months of age from participants who had completed sequential schedules of combined IPV and OPV in phase III clinical trials. The serum neutralizing antibody titers against poliovirus were determined, and the poliovirus-specific antibody-positive rates were evaluated. A total of 1104 participants were enrolled in this study. The positive rates of poliovirus type 1- and type 3-specific antibodies among the sequential immunization groups showed no significant difference at 24, 36, or 48 months of age. The positive rates of poliovirus type 2-specific antibody in the IPV-IPV-tOPV group at all time points were nearly 100%, which was significantly higher than the corresponding rates in other immunization groups (IPV-bOPV-bOPV and IPV-IPV-bOPV). Immunization schedules involving one or two doses of IPV followed by bOPV failed to maintain a high positive rate for poliovirus type 2-specific antibody.

IntroductionThe need for more scalable, accessible and affordable education, coupled with technological advancements in information sharing technology and collaborative platforms has led to the growth of MOOCs (massive open online courses). The growth of MOOCs has resulted in learning becoming increasingly distributed, affordable and flexible compared to traditional classroom education, allowing individuals in disadvantaged groups to access high quality educational materials. However, new challenges emerge, most notably with MOOCs’ low completion rates. Among the reasons for a low completion rate, lack of interaction with peers is cited as a major reason, yet, interventions to promote social interaction has received relatively less attention. From a constructivist perspective, social interactions among peers are essential in helping individuals learn. This systematic literature review aimed to understand social interaction interventions in MOOC settings. This includes constructs measured as learning outcomes and how they were measured.MethodsLiterature articles were sourced from multiple databases and filtered for inclusion using the PRISMA process and its four phases. Twenty articles were included in the final review.ResultsResults of the review showed that social interactions fall into three categories: discussion forums, learning groups and one-to-one interactions with peers. Learning outcomes investigated were grouped into four categories: knowledge, social engagement, learning engagement and learner experience.ConclusionAcross the studies, there were clear positive effects of social interaction on learning outcomes. Intervention strategies include sending prompts for individuals to use discussion boards and also grouping learners by homogeneity based on their learning engagement. However, more experimental studies are necessary to bolster the evidence of a causal impact of social interactions. Also, further research should be done to understand potential mediating factors that contribute to the success of implementing social interactive elements in MOOCs.

Abstract To provide a basis for further optimization of the polio sequential immunization schedule, this study evaluated the effectiveness of booster immunization with one dose of bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (bOPV) at 48 months of age after different primary polio immunization schedules. At 48 months of age, one dose of bOPV was administered, and their poliovirus types 1–3 (PV1, PV2, and PV3, respectively)-specific neutralizing antibody levels were determined. Participants found to be negative for any type of PV-specific neutralizing antibody at 24, 36, or 48 months of age were re-vaccinated with inactivated polio vaccine (IPV). The 439 subjects who received a bOPV booster immunization at the age of 48 months had lower PV2-specific antibody levels compared with those who received IPV. One dose of IPV during basic polio immunization induced the lowest PV2-specific antibody levels. On the basis of our findings, to ensure that no less than 70% of the vaccinated have protection efficiency, we recommend the following: if basic immunization was conducted with 1IPV + 2bOPV (especially Sabin strain-based IPV), a booster immunization with IPV is recommended at 36 months of age, whereas if basic immunization was conducted with 2IPV + 1bOPV, a booster immunization with IPV is recommended at 48 months of age. A sequential immunization schedule of 2IPV + 1bOPV + 1IPV can not only maintain high levels of antibody against PV1 and PV3 but also increases immunity to PV2 and induces early intestinal mucosal immunity, with relatively good safety. Thus, this may be the best sequential immunization schedule for polio in countries or regions at high risk for polio.

Two-component systems typically consist of a paired histidine kinase and response regulator and couple environmental changes to adaptive responses. The response regulator VbrR from Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a member of the OmpR/PhoB family, regulates virulence and antibiotic resistance genes. The activation mechanism of VbrR remains unclear. Here, we report the crystal structures of full-length VbrR in complex with DNA in the active conformation and the N-terminal receiver domain (RD) and the C-terminal DNA-binding domain (DBD) in both active and inactive conformations. Structural and biochemical analyses suggest that unphosphorylated VbrR adopts mainly as inactive dimers through the DBD at the autoinhibitory state. The RD undergoes a monomer-to-dimer transition upon phosphorylation, which further induces the transition of DBD from an autoinhibitory dimer to an active dimer and enables its binding with target DNA. Our study suggests a new model for phosphorylation-induced activation of response regulators and sheds light on the pathogenesis of V. parahaemolyticus.

The traditional brushless DC motor uses three position sensors to realise six-step reversing control of the motor. The application of three position sensors increases the cost, whereas the sensorless control method represented by the back electromotive force method has the problem of low control accuracy. Therefore, the present research proposes the method of six-step motor reversing control by using single sensor, corrects the motor running state by using the peak–peak difference of phase current in the control process, and resultantly achieves a good control effect. The experimental results prove the control and correction method.

Background There is scant data on the association of the Pulsed wave-Doppler tissue imaging (PW-DTI)-derived tricuspid lateral annular peak systolic velocity (S’) and poor short-term prognosis of patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF).Patients and methods A total number of 732 participants from the Heb-ADHF registry in China were divided into three groups according to the corresponding status of tricuspid S′. Demographic characteristics, comorbidities, physical examinations, lab tests, and medications were compared among the different groups. Different logistic regression models were utilized to gauge the relationship between S′ and the risk of a composite of short-term all-cause mortality or 30-day heart failure (HF)-related rehospitalization.Results The number of composite outcome events identified in the study population was 85, with the short-term all-cause death coupled with 30-day HF readmission events reaching 23 and 62, respectively. As per the multivariable adjusted analysis, S′ was inversely related to the risk of a composite outcome [11 cm/s. When S′ was analysed as a continuous variable, per 1 cm/s increase, the OR (95% CI) for a composite outcome was [0.87 (0.77–0.99), p = 0.028]. Abstract Background Few prognostic risk scores (PRSs) have been routinely used in acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). We, therefore, externally validated three published PRSs (3A3B, AHEAD, and OPTIME-CHF) and derived a new PRS to predict the short-term prognosis in ADHF. Methods A total of 4550 patients from the Heb-ADHF registry in China were randomly divided into the derivation and validation cohorts (3:2). Discrimination of each PRS was assessed by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC). Logistic regression was exploited to select the predictors and create the new PRS. The Hosmer–Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test was used to assess the calibration of the new PRS. Results The AUROCs of the 3A3B, AHEAD, and OPTIME-CHF score in the derivation cohort were 0.55 (95% CI 0.53–0.57), 0.54 (95% CI 0.53–0.56), and 0.56 (95% CI 0.54–0.57), respectively. In order to design an adsorption material with higher selectivity to U(Ⅵ) while ensuring a higher adsorption capacity, g-C3N4 and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate were used as raw materials to prepare P-C3N4 by thermal copolymerization. The Ag3PO4/P-C3N4 composite adsorption material was prepared by in-situ co-precipitation method using disodium hydrogen phosphate and silver nitrate. The results of adsorption experiments show that the adsorption capacity of Ag3PO4/P-C3N4 composite adsorbent for U(Ⅵ) reaches 524.6 mg/g at room temperature; the distribution coefficient to U(Ⅵ) reaches 6.13×103 mL/g with competing ions such as Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, Zn2+, Ni2+ and Co2+ in solution. XPS analysis result shows that the N- and P-containing functional groups in the Ag3PO4/P-C3N4 composite adsorption material may participate in the U(Ⅵ) adsorption process. Therefore, the Ag3PO4/P-C3N4 composite adsorption material is one kind of adsorption material with higher adsorption capacity and higher U(Ⅵ) selectivity.

Abstract Mesothelin (MSLN) is an attractive candidate of targeted therapy for several cancers, and hence there are increasing needs to develop MSLN-targeting strategies for cancer therapeutics. Antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs) targeting MSLN have been demonstrated to be a viable strategy in treating MSLN-positive cancers. However, developing antibodies as targeting modules in ADCs for toxic payload delivery to the tumor site but not to normal tissues is not a straightforward task with many potential hurdles. In this work, we established a high throughput engineering platform to develop and optimize anti-MSLN ADCs by characterizing more than 300 scFv CDR-variants and more than 50 IgG CDR-variants of a parent anti-MSLN antibody as candidates for ADCs. The results indicate that only a small portion of the complementarity determining region (CDR) residues are indispensable in the MSLN-specific targeting. Also, the enhancement of the hydrophilicity of the rest of the CDR residues could drastically increase the overall solubility of the optimized anti-MSLN antibodies, and thus substantially improve the efficacies of the ADCs in treating human gastric and pancreatic tumor xenograft models in mice. We demonstrated that the in vivo treatments with the optimized ADCs resulted in almost complete eradication of the xenograft tumors at the treatment endpoints, without detectable off-target toxicity because of the ADCs’ high specificity targeting the cell surface tumor-associated MSLN. The technological platform can be applied to optimize the antibody sequences for more effective targeting modules of ADCs, even when the candidate antibodies are not necessarily feasible for the ADC development due to the antibodies’ inferior solubility or affinity/specificity to the target antigen.
