Jayanta Mahapatra's literary corpus is versatile and reflective to the windows of the world. His Door of Paper: Essays and Memoirs (2007) is the finest flowering ever written by an Indian English poet compared to the theory of poetry of Wordsworth, Shelley and T. S. Eliot. He is the only Indian English poet who wrote the issues related to poetry about how to write poetry, the freedom of poetry, the silence of poetry and the timeframe of poetry and the significance of poetry. His pioneering book Door of Paper: Essays and Memoirs (2007) encompasses his autobiographical strain as well his ideas of poetry as felt during his composition of poetry. What Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Arnold and T. S. Eliot highlighted in their theory of poetry is also reflected in his ideas of poetry. So, this article attempts to highlight how Mahapatra's book Door Of Paper signifies his ideas about the freedom of poetry, process of poetic composition, the silence of poetry, the timeframe of poetry and the significance of poetry as compared to Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Arnold and T. This work examines the poetry collection Junín (1930) by the Peruvian author Enrique Bustamante y Ballivián (1883–1937). While a part of the Latin American avant-garde expresses a fascination with the rise of new machines in the metropolis, this article demonstrates that Bustamante y Ballivián responds to this trend by representing machinery of a different kind – extractivist machinery – in a different type of space: the Andes. The author also engages with the indigenista avant-garde poetic proposals of his Peruvian contemporaries. Unlike them, the poet does not aim to give voice to the indigenous subject, nor does he idealize or solely link it to nature. Instead, he portrays it as 'coupled' to the mineral extraction machinery. Additionally, the poet depicts this machinery as invasive, contaminating and destructive to the landscape and its inhabitants. This work argues that Junín emerges as the first poetic representation of the ecological impacts caused by large-scale mining exploitation in the Andes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper is dedicated to the literary historical legacy of the slavist Rudo Brtáň (1907 - 1998). It is inspired by Brtáň's research on Slovak-language Low-land literature, in particular the chapter Literature and Culture of Slovak Protestants in Sarvaš (1722 - 1918), which comes from the yet unpublished manuscript titled Slovak-language Low-land Literature until 1918. The paper focuses on the work of Michal Markovič Sr. (1707 - 1762/4), who worked in Sarvaš (present-day Hungary) as a Slovak evangelical priest. The analysis deals with Markovič's collection of poems called Duchovní zrcadlo ženského pohlaví z Písem svatých představené/The Spiritual Mirror of the Female Sex presented in the Holy Scriptures, printed probably in Bratislava in 1783. The method of the text analysis is supported by the theoretical assumptions of the Czech literary historian Eduard Petrů, who saw the basis for the interpretation of a literary work in revealing the interpretation core. The goal is to identify the author's intention encoded in the genesis of Markovič's collection, and to decode the reader's interpretation of that time. Markovič wrote the collection in order to stimulate moral attitudes of the whole evangelical community, not only the women's. He composed it with the intention to support the Bible self-study motivating the readers with the inserted biblical coordinates as well as narratives reduced to several poetic lines. The contribution of the analysis can be seen in classifying the genre of the collection as a collection of epigram-like poems. These findings confirm the influence of ancient and renaissance literature on Slovak literary production written in the local vernacular in the mid-18th century. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

“Faithful and Virtuous Night” is a collection of poems by modern American poet Louise Glück that won the American National Award in 2014. This paper uses these four poems as the main body of inquiry: “Faithful and Virtuous Night” (the title poem of the collection), “Cornwall,” “Afterword,” and “Midnight,” all of which use a fictionalized male painter as the narrator and use the painter’s voice to tell the reader about his life experiences. This paper intends to analyze the complex characterization of the male painter, focusing on the awareness of death embodied by the imagery (journey and color) in the collection of poems. This paper advocates for a reading of John Scottus Eriugena's Carmina that situates his collection of poems within the genre of devotional poetry. Although the Carmina has recently benefited from scholarship on Eriugena's theology, typologies of his poems consistently overlook the significance of their theological themes. Most instead attribute more significance to their political themes, since Charles the Bald commissioned many of Eriugena's poems for special occasions at his royal court. This paper argues that a textual analysis which compares the significance of theological and political themes in the Carmina reveals several reasons why Eriugena's poems should be read as devotional poetry. First, it explains how typologies of Eriugena's poems overlook the significance of their theological themes by overstating the significance of Charles and his royal court. The widely renowned and exhaustively researched Kashmiri-American diasporic poet, Agha Shahid Ali, has received acclaim for his portrayal of themes such as loss, longing for the homeland, nostalgia, hyphenated identity, hybridity, and dislocation, among others. However, within the purview of new historicism, this paper intends to examine the interplay of literature, culture, and history. Using Clifford Geertz's framework of "thick description," the paper analyzes Agha's poetry as a cultural artifact with ethnographic value. Through a semiotic analysis of select poems based on Bakhtin's notion of chronotopes, the paper aims to unravel themes of fragmented identity, cultural memorialization, and the preservation of imaginary homelands. The paper also attempts to explore that Agha Shahid Ali, actively engaged with the socio-political turmoil in his homeland. He sought to reconcile the tensions between different traditions and religious communities, envisioning a personal utopia rooted in his privileged position. His poetry reflects his historical context, facilitating a symbolic exchange between the fragments of Kashmiri culture. The representation of animals in literature has long been dominated by anthropocentric perspectives that prioritize human experiences and values. Animals were relegated to metaphors and narrative accessories, neglecting their inherent rights and treating them primarily as reflections of human qualities. This paper examines the works of contemporary American poets Louise Glück and Mary Oliver, focusing on how their selected poems reconsider conventional anthropocentric patterns of animal representations in poetry. The analysis centers on the poets' strategies to blur rigid boundaries between the human-animal divide by challenging conventional depictions where animals are frequently assigned peripheral roles. The study explores how these poems cultivate powerful connections with the natural world, fostering a sense of communion and interconnectedness with nature. Additionally, the research highlights the deliberate efforts by the poets to reconfigure hierarchies, challenge value dualisms, and question anthropocentric narratives that sanction oppression. Drawing on research highlighting the disruptive potential of migratory (e.g. Ahmed, S., 2000. Strange Encounters. Embodied Others in Post-Coloniality. London: Routledge, Heimböckel, D., and Weinberg, M., 2014. Interkulturalität als Projekt. Zeitschrift für interkulturelle Germanistik, 5 (2), 119–144) and urban encounters (e.g. Closs Stephens, A., 2013. The Persistence of Nationalism. From Imagined Communities to Urban Encounters. London: Taylor & Francis), this paper examines the everyday encounters in Ozan Zakariya Keskinkılıç's debut poetry collection Prinzenbad (2022). More specifically, the analysis focuses on the question of how the depicted encounters unsettle a nationalist imaginary characterised by homogeneity, linearity and unity. The speaker of Keskinkılıç's largely autobiographical poems navigates a distinctly transnational, intersectional identity – he is gay, Muslim, a third-generation immigrant from an Arab Turkish family and a German national. The poems detail casual discriminations at airport security checks and intimate encounters with men in urban cruising spots, like Berlin's outdoor pool Prinzenbad. While the poems highlight the ubiquity of the nationalist imaginary, e.g. in personal relationships and language, they ultimately disrupt it by exploring alternative models of community and belonging in the speaker's queer encounters. In the lifetime anthology of Robert Frost's poetry, one poem consistently stands out as the most beloved and recognizable of his works. To the average reader, for over a hundred years "The Road Not Taken" has engendered images of individuality and the need to avoid following the crowd; this despite clear evidence within the verse that contradicts that reading. Most Frost scholars would agree the poem is the most misunderstood poem in Frost's collection, and the academy has presented several intelligent and deeply introspective alternatives. However, none of these have garnered enough of a consensus to displace the initial misunderstanding. Through an interdisciplinary approach that makes use of the added epistemic approaches of historical research and the psychology of regret, this paper will uncover a hidden creation story for "The Road Not Taken", and through a fulsome review of the poem's origination, reveal a more basic axiom as to the purpose behind Frost's two roads. There seems to be no study so far that has interpreted isocolon from a descriptive linguistic point of view. Studies conducted on isocolon have considered this aspect as merely a poetic tool and have focused solely on its artistic function. It is for this reason that this aspect has been examined mainly in the genre of poetry. The main aim of this paper was therefore to provide a different perspective on isocolon by considering its syntactic patterns with reference to the genre of novels. Such an approach was an attempt to uncover not only the artistic function, but also the form (linguistic description) of this aspect. The discourse is presented through the lens of linguistic stylistics, which advocates a linguistic approach to style in literature. This approach seeks to objectify a literary text in a scientific manner through descriptive linguistics. Discourse analysis theory was also employed, since an investigation was made into Sibiya's literary works and the influence of context. The aim of this paper is to investigate the assertion of gender difference and gender identity in contemporary Romanian feminist poetry, taking the works of Medeea Iancu, Iuliana Lungu, Mădălina Oprea, and Nóra Ugron as its starting point. This study will underline recurring thematic patterns, highlighting the priority awarded, within these poetry collections, to matters pertaining to textuality, as well as to the peripheral position of women writers within the literary field. As a result of the uneven development of Eastern Europe's women's movement(s) during the postcommunist transition, Romanian feminism can be described as a synthesis between Second- and Third Wave feminist themes (Miroiu), namely as having haphazardly imported both issues pertaining to "difference-" and to intersectional feminism. The emphasis local feminist poets place on positing difference, as well as on embracing a fluid identity, has motivated the usage of a theoretical framework based on the concepts of "sexual/gender difference", and justified the attempt of linking these literary projects to the tradition of so-called "French post-structuralist feminism". Lastly, this study proposes an overview of the possible political relevance that "neomaterialist" (Braidotti) strands of feminism may hold today, as well as an outline of some of the limitations that they pose. The Strasbourg City Archives (Les Archives de la Ville et de l’Eurométropole de Strasbourg) house the archive of the chapter of St Thomas, which among other materials includes letters related to the Bohemian lands that have remained for the most part unknown, and thus unpublished. These letters are an important source of information on the intellectual interactions of the Strasbourg and Bohemian Humanist scholars in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, when numerous Bohemian nobles and intellectuals came to study at the Strasbourg gymnasium and used the Strasbourg printing houses to publish their works. The first group of letters presented in this paper concerns the Strasbourg canon Konrad Hubert (1507–1577), who maintained epistolary contact with eminent Bohemian Humanist scholars such as Matthaeus Collinus, Jan Banno, and Thomas Mitis, whose poems he either helped publish in Strasbourg or was planning to include in the anthology of religious poetry he was preparing. The second part of this paper only includes one letter which, however, is no less remarkable than the rest of the letters edited herein. Written by Strasbourg Professor of Theology Jean Marbach (1521–1581) and addressed to the distinguished Bohemian physician and astronomer Tadeáš Hájek of Hájek (ca. 1525–1600), the letter provides, among other things, information that the prominent Bohemian Humanist scholar Jan Kocín of Kocinét served as tutor to one of Hájek’s sons during his Strasbourg studies in 1571. The third and final part of this paper presents two letters by Jan Škréta Šotnovský of Závořice (1598–1650), who, having left the Bohemian lands after the Battle of White Mountain, studied at Basel University and worked as a physician in Basel and Schaffhausen. The letters are addressed to the Strasbourg poet Samuel Gloner and give intriguing information about the sender’s younger brother Karel Škréta, who was 18 years old by then and still studying the art of painting. The second letter to Gloner discusses the earliest known engraving of young Karel Škréta’s painting. All letters included in this paper have been provided with a critical, annotated edition. In the texture of current poetic formulae in the Romanian poetic space (alt-lit, digital poetry, digital-realist, digital-scientist, retro-digital, minimalist-biographical poetry, etc.), the experimental-scientific one emerges, marginally, converting a voice imported from the hard sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and so on). Using as methodological support the theory of combined and uneven development, this paper aims to analyze the (semi-)peripheral poetic discourses modulated by terminological imports from the exact sciences and the way in which the affects are systematized in two zones of the world literary system (central vs. semi-peripheral). The hypothesis of departure is that, in contrast to central cultural spaces (USA, Canada, etc.), where there are many techno poetic discourses, academic directions (courses, associations, research projects, journals) and a solid critical system, in the Romanian (semi-peripheral) cultural space, there is a well-defined critical apparatus on mathematical poetics (from the 20th century), but, at the present time, there is a lack of critical research on these collections of poetry, which frame an emerging direction (with the collections of Gabi Eftimie or val chimic). Therefore, we consider that the extreme-contemporary volumes worth analyzing in this sense are Dmitri-INTJ by Dmitri Miticov (OMG Publishing, 2023) and vom trece de Marte dar nu imediat (We Shall Pass Mars but not Immediately) by Șerban Mihalache (Max Blecher Publishing House, 2023), both of them nuancing their dynamics by appealing to centrifuged emotions, to “rationaffects”. Frangois Cheng (1929- ), elected to the Academie Frangaise in 2002, structurally introduced the lexicological, syntactic, and semiotic form of Tang poetry to the French academia via his academic works. In the late 1980s, Frangois Cheng shifted his focus from academic writing to creative writing, both in French, winning the 1998 Prix Femina for his novel Le Dit de Tianyi (1998) and Prix Roger Caillois for his collection of poems Double chant (2000). Focusing on his less-discussed poetry, which reveals higher congruity of his understanding of Chinese literary classics with creative representation, this paper argues that, as an analyst of Tang poetry, Cheng also acts as a contemporary translator of the classical Chinese aesthetic ideology into French modern verses. His subjective creation of poetry is both transcultural and trans-temporal, ambiguously corresponding to his lingual, racial, cultural, and national belonging, and appropriating a new valid form of French literary style. This ambiguity both transcends national identification and universalizes the international flow of knowledge. Beyond Feng Lan's (2017) recognition of Frangois Cheng as a special representative of Chinese diasporic intellectuals who mediate between institutionalized French discourses and Chinese classical philosophy, a close reading of Cheng's poems in the paper will support an investigation of his successive and transformative production of text. Born and bred in the Western lands in the context of ecological crisis and feminist movement in the 1970s, ecofeminism views men's rule over women and human's rule over nature as two aspects of the same issue, and believes that there is an inherent connection between them. By criticizing the oppressive status of women and nature, and eliminating the dualism rooted in western patriarchy, ecofeminism aims to promote equality and harmony among all things. Taoism, an ancient Eastern philosophy with a history of thousands of years, also places great emphasis on harmony among individuals, nature, society, and the universe. Its principles of "the unity of man and nature", and balance between "Yin" and "Yang" provide philosophical support for ecofeminism which rejects dualisms and encourages wholeness and harmony. As society and economy develop rapidly, humanity faces a series of crisis, and this paper just intends to combine ecofeminism with Taoism to make an analysis on Louise Glück's poem collection of A Village Life to explore her ecofeminist consciousness and how she advocates the establishment of a diverse but harmonious world without hierarchical differences in her poems.
