This study examined the feasibility of “Concussion Essentials” (CE), an individualized, multimodal intervention for persisting post-concussion symptoms (pPCS). Thirteen 6–18 year-olds with pPCS at 1-month post-concussion, as determined by the Post Concussion Symptom Inventory – Parent Report (PCSI-P), completed education, physiotherapy, and psychology modules, for up to 8-weeks or until pPCS resolved. Intervention participants were matched to a longitudinal observational cohort who received usual care (n = 13). The study enrolled 70% of participants symptomatic on screening and the dropout rate was <30% between baseline and post-programme assessments (4-weeks to 3-months post-injury). Symptoms improved for 100% of CE participants, with the number of symptomatic items on the PCSI-P reducing from 4-weeks, Median (IQR) = 14.0 (8.0–19.0) to 3-months, Median (IQR) = 1.0 (0.0–5.0). Comparatively, symptoms improved for approximately half of matched usual care participants. CE participants (n = 8) and their parents (n = 11) completed acceptability questionnaires. Most parents (91%) agreed CE was acceptable for children with concussion. All participants agreed CE was appropriate for concussion, while approximately 88% agreed they enjoyed the intervention and would recommend CE to others. Abstract\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONMany Canadian manual wheelchair users face many challenges in winter months such as slippage on ice- or snow-covered ramps, snow windrows, and casters becoming stuck in deep or hard packed snow. These barriers impact wheelchair users’ ability to participate in the community. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and feasibility of a winter wheelchair obstacle course known as the Standardized Navigation Of Winter Mobility & Accessibility Network (SNOWMAN). The results demonstrated that the SNOWMAN course authentically represented real-world winter conditions, as confirmed by participant responses and qualitative feedback from four manual wheelchair users. The course was comprehensive, covering a range of winter obstacles typically encountered by wheelchair users. Construct validity was established by differentiating performance between manual wheelchairs and a motorized platform with snow tracks, showcasing varying completion times and device satisfaction levels. Feasibility was also assessed, with the administration protocol being mostly adhered to, safety measures implemented, and usability scores meeting acceptable thresholds. The SNOWMAN course showed promise for evaluating wheelchair adaptations and devices for winter conditions, as well as training users in winter mobility skills. Future research directions include comparing different wheeled mobility devices, exploring adaptations for usability in winter, and developing new technology tailored for challenging terrains and winter conditions. AbstractPurposeMethodsResultsConclusion\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThis study aims to explore the priorities, preferences, and feedback of multiple healthcare professionals to inform the future development of virtual clinics for community-dwelling adults with spinal cord injury (SCI) in Ontario, Canada.Interpretive description methodology was used to guide our exploration. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 expert healthcare professionals (HCPs) involved in the care of patients with SCI. Interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Interview transcripts were then analyzed using a six-phase thematic analysis approach.HCPs perceived virtual care to improve access to care over the long term, particularly to those living in rural areas, as well as increase connections between different providers. However, participants highlighted that in-person care is still required for management of severe SCI-related sequelae that can be life-threatening, such as pressure ulcers, spasticity, respiratory issues, and bowel and bladder complications.Our findings can be used to inform policymakers, HCPs, and stakeholders involved with SCI rehabilitation when establishing a virtual clinic for patients with SCI. Purpose: Use of a lower limb prosthesis generally requires increased cognitive effort to compensate for missing motor and sensory inputs. This study sought to examine how lower limb prosthesis users perceive paying attention to their prosthesis(es) in daily life. Materials and methods: Focus groups with lower limb prosthesis users were conducted virtually using semi-structured questions. Verbatim transcripts were excerpted, coded, and reconciled. Inductive thematic analysis was undertaken to identify experiences shared by participants. Results: Five themes emerged from five focus groups conducted with thirty individuals: Paying attention to my prosthesis is just what I have to do; I pay attention to how my prosthetic socket fits and feels every day; I pay attention because I don't want to fall; I pay attention because I have to learn to do things in a new way; and If I can trust that my prosthesis will do what I want, I can pay less attention to it. Conclusions: Prosthetic attention, including both background and foreground attention, is a shared experience among lower limb prosthesis users. The amount and frequency of prosthetic attention fluctuates throughout the day and changes over time. Measuring attention could inform the evaluation and prescription of technology intended to reduce cognitive effort. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Walking or performing mobility tasks with a prosthesis requires increased attention and may limit the cognitive resources available for other important activities. Lower limb prosthesis users report paying attention to their prosthesis(ses) to avoid falling, to maintain the fit of their prosthetic socket, and to learn to complete mobility tasks with a prosthesis. Clinicians should discuss prosthetic attention with new prosthesis users and explain how it is expected to decrease over time. Purpose: To determine prevalence of musculoskeletal complaints (MSCs) in adults with major congenital upper limb differences (CoULD) compared to able-bodied controls, and to examine associations of MSCs and disability with various biopsychosocial factors. Materials and methods: Questionnaire-based cross-sectional study assessing MSCs, disability (using the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (DASH)), general and mental health status, physical work demands, and upper extremity range of motion. Results: Seventy-one individuals with CoULD (participation rate: 41%) and 71 controls matched on age, gender, and education were included (49% female, mean age 28.9 years). Year prevalence of MSCs was significantly higher in the CoULD group (35%) than in the control group (18%). The CoULD group was less often employed and had lower scores on all measures of upper limb range of motion and hand grip. MSCs were associated with higher DASH scores and higher reported work demands. Disability was associated with female gender, more joints with limited range of motion, unemployment, and lower general and mental health. Factors associated with disability did not differ between groups. Conclusions: MSCs are a frequent problem in young adults with major CoULD. To prevent or reduce MSC and disability, clinicians and researchers should be aware of the associated factors. Purpose: This focus group study aimed to explore experiences and perceptions on post-stroke fatigue guidance in Dutch rehabilitation and follow-up care among people/patients with stroke and health professionals. Methods: Ten persons with stroke and twelve health professionals with different professions within stroke rehabilitation or follow-up care in the Netherlands were purposively sampled and included. Eight online focus group interviews were conducted. We analysed the data using reflexive thematic analysis. Results: Three themes were identified. Guidance in fatigue management did not always match the needs of people/patients with stroke. Professionals were positive about the provided fatigue guidance (e.g. advice on activity pacing), but found it could be better tailored to the situation of people/patients with stroke. Professionals believe the right time for post-stroke fatigue guidance is when people/patients with stroke are motivated to change physical activity behaviour to manage fatigue – mostly several months after stroke – while people/patients with stroke preferred information on post-stroke fatigue well before discharge. Follow-up care and suggestions for improvement described that follow-up support after rehabilitation by a stroke coach is not implemented nationwide, while people/patients with stroke and professionals expressed a need for it. Conclusions: The study findings will help guide improvement of fatigue guidance in stroke rehabilitation programmes and stroke follow-up care aiming to improve physical activity, functioning, participation, and health. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: We recommend fatigue guidance, including peer support, to be accessible to all people after stroke and for health professionals to pay attention to acceptance of the stroke. To improve fatigue guidance, we suggest providing information on post-stroke fatigue to people after stroke and their relatives well before discharge from stroke rehabilitation. Tailored advice on activity pacing during and after stroke rehabilitation is important to fill the current unmet need of people after stroke to manage fatigue and to gradually improve participation, physical activity behaviour and health. Purpose: To develop a virtual reality (VR) based intervention targeting community walking requirements. Methods: Two focus groups each involving 7 clinicians allowed exploring optimal features, needed support and perceived favorable/unfavorable factors associated with the use of the VR-based intervention from the clinicians' perspective. Three stroke survivors and 2 clinicians further interacted with the intervention and filled questionnaires related to acceptability and favorable/unfavorable perceptions on the VR intervention. Stroke participants additionally rated their perceived effort (NASA Tax Load Index), presence (Slater-Usoh-Steed) and cybersickness (Simulator Sickness Questionnaire). Results: Results identified optimal features (patient eligibility criteria, task complexity), needed support (training, human assistance), as well as favorable (cognitive stimulation, engagement, representativeness of therapeutic goals) and unfavorable factors (misalignment with a natural walking pattern, client suitability, generalization to real-life) associated with the intervention. Acceptability scores following the interaction with the tool were 28 and 42 (max 56) for clinicians and ranged from 43 to 52 for stroke participants. Stroke participants reported moderate perceptions of effort (range:20-33/max:60), high levels of presence (29-42/42) and minimal cybersickness (0-3/64). Conclusion: Findings collected in the early development phase of the VR intervention will allow addressing favorable/unfavorable factors and incorporating desired optimal features, prior to conducting effectiveness and implementation studies. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: This study presents the development process of a new virtual reality (VR) intervention for community walking and participation in stroke survivors. Results from the focus group and hands-on pilot trial suggest that the VR intervention is feasible and accepted by clinicians and stroke survivors. Most of those convicted are sentenced to imprisonment or death, but some ‘minor’ offenders are diverted to drug treatment centres. We explore the moralities that shape drug policy, justice professionals’ interpretation and application of laws and policies, and judgements about who is deserving of diversion.We draw on experiences and perceptions of 136 Indonesian criminal justice professionals, through in-depth qualitative interviewing and focus groups, to reveal the moral landscapes shaping policy and practice.Justice narratives blur penal concerns with moral judgments about drug offending, with normative responses shaping punishments in law and practice. While there is some compassion for ‘minor’ drug offenders, driving rationales for diversion, drug traffickers are regarded as morally deserving of prison and capital punishment, with traditionalist perceptions of harm amplified by a purgative rationale.This article highlights the analytical potential of moralities such as ‘compassion’ and ‘traditionalism’ in criminal justice research and policy in Southeast Asia. However, the relationship between factors associated with developing persistent symptoms following an mTBI and satisfaction with their performance of self-identified goals after completing an intervention are unknown.To evaluate whether factors associated with developing persistent symptoms influence satisfaction with the performance of self-identified goals after completing a combined occupational therapy and physiotherapy group intervention.During intake assessments, individuals with persistent mTBI symptoms completed the satisfaction section of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM-S), the Rivermead Post-Concussion Symptom Questionnaire (RPQ), and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Seven-Item Scale (GAD-7). Participants re-rated their satisfaction with performance of self-identified goals using the COPM-S during their discharge assessment. The influence of age, sex, days since injury, education, mechanism of injury, baseline COPM-S, GAD-7, and RPQ scores on goal satisfaction ratings were analyzed using a binomial logistic regression.One hundred and ninety-eight individuals (44.7 ± 13.6 years old) were included in this study, and 92% experienced a clinically important improvement in their goal satisfaction ratings after completing the intervention. Less is known about experiences of transition between acute services and inpatient rehabilitation. We aimed to understand the experiences of patients and families as they transition to inpatient rehabilitation services, before and after the opening of a new integrated stroke and rehabilitation unit (ISU).Adults were recruited 7 days after transfer to inpatient rehabilitation, in two 6-month periods before and after the opening of the ISU. Their experiences of care continuity were evaluated with a survey. Univariate analyses compared survey data pre- and post-ISU. A subset of participants completed semi-structured interviews that underwent thematic analysis.150 patients were recruited (median age 60 years, range 20-92 years, 72 female). There were no differences between pre- and post-ISU survey scores for patient or family experiences (all p > 0.3). Interview analysis identified 3 major themes: “Whānaungatanga - the foundation of patient experience”, “In the dark and out of control”, and “A nice view…but I want to be able to do more.”Implementation of an integrated stroke and rehabilitation unit maintained levels of patient and family satisfaction. Determining future economic loss in cases of disabilities is difficult, particularly when the disabilities are considered partial in nature, and the individuals have some capacity to mitigate their future income losses. This paper examines one possible approach for examining reduced future income capacity in cases of partial disabilities, the use of the Work Ability Index (WAI) and Work Ability Scale (WAS).Empirical data from one-hundred six cases is analyzed using a censored tobit regression to determine the relationship between scores on the WAI/WAS and verified long-term income losses for individuals who suffered disabling events.The study found a high correlation between the scores obtained on both the WAI and WAS measures, and future economic loss. The results suggest that these scales may be very useful in analyzing reduced future income capacity in situations involving partial disabilities.This study assists the rehabilitation and disability expert to better understand the implications of a moderate to severe disability on the future income capacity of an injured person. An inductive thematic analysis of all transcripts was undertaken by two authors.Fourteen participants who worked across the care continuum in three Australian states were interviewed. Responses fit into three overarching themes: (1) attitudes to supports; (2) availability and accessibility of supports; and (3) awareness of supports. These themes encompassed perceptions of the support options available for people with stroke and the factors affecting support provision decision making among healthcare providers.The healthcare providers in this study thought people with stroke would benefit from a greater range of available supports. Supports should take into account the diverse experiences and acute and long-term needs of people with stroke, as well as be accessible to people from all cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Currently, Zimbabwe struggles to provide rehabilitation services at primary health care. To justify the need for establishing rehabilitation at this level of care, the demand for these services needs to be understood. This study describes the factors influencing the demand for rehabilitation by adults attending primary healthcare in Zimbabwe.The study used a qualitative descriptive approach. In-depth interviews were conducted with 18 purposefully selected patients in the Shona language and audio recorded. Transcribed data were translated and back-translated. Thematic analysis was done using Atlas.ti. version 22.2®.Most patients at primary health care were not actively seeking nor were they able to utilise rehabilitation services because of several factors. The factors identified from the patients’ responses were categorised into (i) patient and family-, (ii) healthcare professional-, and (iii) health system-related factors. Key factors included rehabilitation awareness and availability of rehabilitation.The identified factors may inform rehabilitation service and policy planners in improving primary health care patients’ access to rehabilitation in similar low-resource settings. AbstractPurposeMethodsResultsConclusions\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONDifferential Item Functioning (DIF), an item malfunctioning, causes Differential Test Functioning (DTF), thus biasing questionnaire measures. The current study evaluates the relationship between DIF and DTF for the Barthel Index and the Functional Independence Measure, likely the most used disability measures. The aim is to understand under which conditions DIF can be ignored as its DTF is negligible.A simulation study was run. Disability measures were obtained for the Barthel Index and FIM motor domain using Rasch analysis with previously published item calibrations. Several DIF scenarios have been assessed. DTF was tolerable if ≤0.50 logits.Simulations showed that the larger the DIF, the larger the DTF and that, keeping the overall DIF constant, the total number of items with DIF does not affect DTF. DIF of the items with the lowest or highest calibrations is the most dangerous. The DIF of central items should be so massive to matter in DTF terms that it is unlikely to happen in practice. The FIM robustness to DIF is better than that of the Barthel Index.The FIM and the Barthel Index show remarkable robustness to DIF. Background: Social participation levels of individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (iwMS) are lower than those of healthy individuals. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate to which extent the walking capacity, balance, and fear of falling (FoF) affect the community integration levels of iwMS. Methods: Thirty-nine iwMS were evaluated for their participation levels [The Community Integration Questionnaire (CIQ)], walking capacity [The Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT)], balance [Kinesthetic Ability Trainer (SportKAT®)], and FoF [The Modified Falls Efficacy Scale (MFES)]. Correlation and regression analyses were performed to detect the effects of SportKAT®, 6MWT, and MFES on CIQ. Results: CIQ scores were significantly correlated with 6MWT (p =.043) and MFES (p =.005) scores, while CIQ was not related with static (for two feet test p =.356, for right single-leg stance test p =.412, for left single-leg stance test p =.730) and dynamic balance (for clockwise test p =.097, for counterclockwise test p =.540) measured with the SportKAT®. It was found that CIQ could be predicted by 6MWT and MFES at the level of 16% and 25%, respectively. Conclusion: FoF and walking capacity are associated with community integration in iwMS. Therefore, physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs of iwMS should be combined with treatment goals to increase community integration, balance, and gait and decrease the disability and FoF from an early stage. Background: The use of screening questionnaires (SQ) to evaluate affective or cognitive tendencies (CAT) in persons with low back pain (LBP) is recommended by clinical practice guidelines (CPG) yet few physical therapists (PTs) have adopted these recommendations. Objective: To develop and implement a tailored knowledge translation (KT) intervention in an outpatient rehabilitation practice to facilitate the uptake of SQ for CAT in persons with LBP. Methods: In a mixed-methods study, using the knowledge to action framework, PTs (n = 12) collaborated with research clinicians to improve the use of three SQ: 1) Primary Care Evaluation of Mental Disorders for Depressive Symptoms; 2) Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire; and 3) Pain Catastrophizing Scale. Success of the intervention was measured through questionnaires, focus groups and chart audit. Results: A multimodal intervention to overcome specific identified barriers (i.e. time, forgetfulness, and lack of knowledge) was implemented. There was a 10% increase in the use of at least one SQ. PTs reported increased knowledge and use of the SQ but reported time and lack of confidence as barriers to implementation. Conclusion: It was concluded that SQ for CAT can be successfully implemented; however, PTs felt unprepared to use the screening results to evaluate persons with CAT and more extensive training is recommended to change this practice pattern. Background: An extended group program called Mind and Body (MB), based on body awareness exercises and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), was offered to a subgroup of patients who had completed their traditional outpatient multidisciplinary rehabilitation and were motivated for further treatment. Purpose: To explore how patients with multisite musculoskeletal pain experienced participation in the MB program with respect to usefulness, meaningfulness, behavioral changes, and transferability to daily life and work. Method: The study is rooted in the phenomenological tradition. Individual, semi-structured interviews were performed with eight patients aged 29–56 years. The data were analyzed using systematic text condensation. Results: Two main themes emerged: 1) New knowledge provided increased body awareness, new ways of thinking, and acceptance of one's own situation. This theme reflected how new knowledge and MB coping strategies were useful in the process of changing problematic thoughts, increasing body awareness, and facilitating acceptance; and 2) Implementing new habits and strategies in daily life revealed how demanding it was to alter behavior, a process that unfolded over time. Conclusion: A combination of body awareness exercises and cognitive coping strategies was described as helpful in further improving function and coping with pain and stress in daily life and work. Background: The criteria to determine walking performance of people with mobility limitations from developed countries have been already reported. However, these criteria may not be suitable to be applied for people with mobility limitations from developing countries due to the differences in sociodemographic characteristics and environmental conditions. Objective: To explore cutoff points of walking speed to determine walking performance of individuals with mobility limitations from a developing country. Methods: Individuals with mobility limitations from a developing country (n = 136) were cross-sectionally interviewed and assessed for their demographics and walking performance. Then they were assessed for their walking speed using the 10-meter walk test. Results: Walking speeds of ≥0.30 m/s, ≥ 0.40 m/s, and ≥0.65 m/s could optimally indicate the ability of outside-home walking, limited-community walking, and full-community walking, respectively (sensitivity = 78%–84%, specificity = 81%–93%, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve [AUC] > 0.90). Moreover, a walking speed of ≥0.35 m/s could suggest the ability of functional walking (sensitivity = 78%; specificity = 83%; and AUC = 0.89). Conclusions: With the need of standard practical measure for early screening and monitoring of functional alteration over time, the present walking speed cutoff points may be clinically applied to suggest walking performance in daily living specifically for individuals with mobility limitations from a developing country. This first-time systematic review is to examine PTAs impact on clinical outcomes in all physical therapy settings while providing the most current scientific perspective on this important topic.This review used PubMed, SPORTDiscus, CINAHL, and Web of Science from database inception until May 5th, 2024. Inclusion criteria were articles examining clinical outcomes related to the utilization of PTAs published since 2000, retrospective or prospective studies, randomized controlled trials, case series, and full-text articles in English. The Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS) scale graded articles. A narrative approach to systematic review was undertaken.Seven articles met inclusion criteria from 573 initially retrieved. Articles were ‘moderate quality’ and examined 82,175 patients and 25,765 nursing facilities across inpatient rehabilitation settings (n = 3 articles) and outpatient settings (n = 4 articles). In outpatient settings, the use of PTAs was associated with increased physical therapy utilization and mixed clinical outcomes. For inpatient rehabilitation, three articles indicated mixed results with some concluding no difference in clinical outcomes while others reported increased fall risk. No articles examined the impact of PTAs on outcomes in acute care or home care settings in the last two decades.This systematic review of moderate quality observational studies found mixed clinical outcomes when PTAs were involved, although evidence is limited. Impaired self-awareness impacts outcomes for individuals with brain injury. Self-awareness is a complex construct, with little known about how its presentation differs across diagnostic groups, or how brain injury-related changes are expressed by individuals in the early phase post-brain injury. This study aims to identify differences and similarities in patterns of self-awareness between patients with different brain injury diagnoses, and provide a clinical account of how individuals with ABI describe changes to themselves arising from brain injury. This is a mixed methods retrospective cohort study involving an audit of medical files that included extraction of data from the Self-Awareness of Deficits Interview. Quantitative and qualitative techniques were used to analyse data from 173 participants. Individuals identified a range of brain injury-related impairments across domains, with greatest difficulty noted with linking impairments to functional implications and setting realistic goals. There were similarities and distinct differences in the expression of changes across diagnostic groups. Two main themes that aligned with self-awareness theory were identified from the data: 1/ Development of self-awareness; and 2/ Dimensions of self-awareness. These interrelated themes demonstrated the multifaceted nature of the clinical presentation of self-awareness, and highlight the need for an individualized approach to cognitive rehabilitation. Strength is a primary and modifiable contributor to performance, injury risk, and rehabilitative success. The gold standard measure of strength is the isokinetic dynamometer, providing the clinician with the opportunity to manipulate contraction modality, range, and speed about a joint. However, criticism has highlighted a lack of functional relevance, with arbitrary selection of speed across the full range. To better understand function, biomechanical analysis of movement can inform a bespoke isokinetic data collection protocol. In this case, we use walking gait, a function goal for daily living and clinically assessed following knee replacement surgery for example. Concentric knee flexor and extensor demand was evident at an average angular velocity of 70°·s−1, whilst eccentric knee flexor and extensor demands were evident at speeds of 192°·s−1 and 165°·s−1, respectively. The aim was to present a descriptive 10-season summary of injury data from all teams of a professional football club using a heat map approach. Injuries and exposure time were registered according to the FIFA consensus in all men's and women's teams from Athletic Club over 10 seasons. A team-by-injury table was created, showing the incidence, median severity, and burden in each cell. Cells were coloured based on the injury burden value using a green – yellow–red gradient (lowest to highest). The highest overall injury burden was found in the women's 2nd and 1st teams and the men's U(under)17 team (>200 days lost/1000 h). Muscle injury burden demonstrated an increasing pattern with age. Knee joint/ligament injuries, particularly anterior cruciate ligament ruptures, had the highest impact on women's teams, followed by the men's 2nd team. In comparison, ankle joint/ligament injuries had a relatively low injury burden in most teams. Growth-related injuries were the most impactful injuries in the men's U15 and younger teams, and the women's U14 team. In conclusion, epidemiological data on injuries can inform and guide injury management processes. Despite the use of digital communication technologies in neurocognitive rehabilitation has been widely used in face-to-face interventions, the difficulties of using ICT-based tools to provide rehabilitation services and the unfamiliarity of the neuropsychologists with internet interventions limited the use of these kinds of interventions in their clinical practices. The lockdown and mitigating measures associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, on the other hand, forced the use of at-distance and online interventions as a means to mitigate the impact of those measures on the mental health and rehabilitation processes of people with neurological disorders. Overall, little is known about the perspectives of patients with acquired neurological conditions about rehabilitation services delivered at distance. Therefore, the main goal of this study was to explore the perceptions that patients with neurological disorders have on at-distance online neurocognitive rehabilitation, namely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sixteen patients with acquired neurological conditions attending an online neurocognitive rehabilitation program in a Portuguese rehabilitation center filled in an online questionnaire during the mandatory lockdown. The results of this study highlight the potential of delivering rehabilitation services at distance, presenting its advantages and limitations from patients' perspectives, as well as suggestions for improving both neurorehabilitation processes and the online rehabilitation platform used. Following severe cerebrovascular accidents, patients are often unable to dress themselves. Little is known about the persistence and treatment of this impairment. Study 1 followed 23 patients who were (1) completely dependent on others for help with dressing (2) for two weeks continually until their discharge from the rehabilitation unit. Study 2, a randomized controlled trial of 24 patients, examined the effects of errorless learning and RehaGoal App-based dressing practice on recovery in dressing ability-impaired patients who also experienced visuospatial neglect and/or apraxia. The control and intervention groups both underwent a standard therapy in the rehab unit; the intervention group additionally received dressing training (seven sessions of 45 min). The primary outcome measure was the score on an adapted version of the Nottingham Stroke Dressing Assessment; secondary outcome measures were the Barthel Index and Functional Independence Measure. Less than one-third of the patients in Study1, showed improvement. In Study 2, the intervention produced no specific effect on patients' dressing ability. However, apraxia and neglect predicted improvement for both groups. If patients depend completely on assistance for dressing for two weeks, prospects for recovery are limited. This study was conducted in five randomly selected small-scale mining communities in the Amansie West District of Ashanti Region, Ghana to assess the impacts of small-scale mining activities on heavy metal presence in three different land use types (mined site, farmland and forest area). Using a random sampling design, a total of 60 soil samples were collected from 0–20 cm depth and analyzed for soil heavy metals: arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg) and copper (Cu) using Two-way ANOVA. Heavy metal concentrations for As (5.571 mg/kg), Cd (0.002 mg/kg), Cu (1.158 mg/kg), Pb (0.076 mg/kg) in the communities did not exceed the FAO/WHO permissible limits with the exception of Hg concentrations for the respective communities (0.68 mg/kg, 1.07 mg/kg, 1.26 mg/kg, 1.28 mg/kg, 17.03 mg/kg) whose levels were 2.3 to 56.8 times higher than FAO/WHO permissible limits (0.3 mg/kg). The distribution of heavy metals in the soil was not uniform across the different land use types in the mining landscape. Differences in heavy metal concentrations were significant (p <.05) at the community, land use and their interaction (community*land use) levels with the exception of As concentration at the land use level (p >.05). The study concludes that soils of the major land use types in the study area (mined sites, farmlands and forest area) are all contaminated by Hg accumulation. Purpose: Event-related desynchronisation (ERD) and event-related synchronisation (ERS) reflect pain perception and integration of the nociceptive sensory inputs. This may contribute to the understanding of how neurophysiological markers of Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) patients can differ from control individuals, which would improve aspects such as prediction and prognosis. We performed a cross-sectional analysis of our cohort study (DEFINE cohort), KOA arm, with 71 patients, compared with 65 control participants. The study aimed to examine possible differences between ERD and ERS in control participants compared to Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) patients when adjusting for important covariates. Materials and methods: We performed independent multivariate regression models considering as dependent variables the power value related to ERD and ERS for four different sensorimotor tasks (Motor Execution, Motor Imagery, Active Observation and Passive Observation) and four sensorimotor oscillations (Alpha, Beta, Low Beta, and High Beta), each model, controlled by age and sex. Results: We demonstrate that the differences between KOA and healthy subjects are frequency specific, as most differences are in the beta bandwidth range. Also, we observed that subjects in the KOA group had significantly higher ERD and ERS. This may be correlated to the amount of lack of brain organisation and a subsequent attempt at compensation induced by KOA. Conclusions: Our findings strengthen the notion that subjects with KOA have a higher degree of brain plasticity changes that are also likely correlated to the degree of compensation and behavioural dysfunction. To explore experiences, expectations, and involvement of children and young people (CYP) in decision-making for selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) surgery, post-operative physiotherapy treatment and outcomes. A qualitative study design using one to one interviews. Five CYP (2 girls and 3 boys) participated, and interviews lasted between 45 min and 2 h. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Children and young people are reliant on their parents to make decisions and inform them of the SDR process. Experiences of living with cerebral palsy and its management are centered on their routine social, psychological, and physiological challenges. Individual characteristics and attributes of CYP have an impact on how they cope with the rehabilitation burden and adjust to their changing levels of function and participation. Although CYP reported that SDR offers them a greater 'freedom to choose' in how they participate in daily life, further consideration is required to meet their psychosocial needs, particularly in preparing for SDR and adjusting afterwards. Motor behaviour using upper-extremity prostheses of different levels is greatly variable, leading to challenges interpreting ideal rehabilitation strategies. Elucidating the underlying neural control mechanisms driving variability benefits our understanding of adaptation after limb loss. In this follow-up study, non-amputated participants completed simple and complex reach-to-grasp motor tasks using a body-powered transradial or partial-hand prosthesis simulator. We hypothesised that under complex task constraints, individuals employing variable grasp postures will show greater sensorimotor beta activation compared to individuals relying on uniform grasping, and activation will occur later in variable compared to uniform graspers. In the simple task, partial-hand variable and transradial users showed increased neural activation from the early to late phase of the reach, predominantly in the hemisphere ipsilateral to device use. In the complex task, only partial-hand variable graspers showed a significant increase in neural activation of the sensorimotor cortex from the early to the late phase of the reach. These results suggest that grasp variability may be a crucial component in the mechanism of neural adaptation to prosthesis use, and may be mediated by device level and task complexity, with implications for rehabilitation after amputation. Objectives: To investigate whether intensified cooperation between general practitioner (GP), care manager and rehabilitation coordinator (RC) for patients sick-listed for stress-related mental disorder, combined with a person-centred dialogue meeting with employer, could reduce sick-leave days compared with usual care manager contact. Design: Pragmatic cluster-randomised controlled trial, randomisation at primary care centre (PCC) level. Setting: PCCs in Region Västra Götaland, Sweden, with care manager organisation. Participants: Of 30 invited PCCs, 28 (93%) accepted the invitation and recruited 258 patients newly sick-listed due to stress-related mental disorder (n = 142 intervention, n = 116 control PCCs). Intervention: Cooperation between GP, care manager and rehabilitation coordinator from start of illness notification plus a person-centred dialogue meeting between patient and employer within 3 months. Regular contact with care manager was continued at the control PCCs. Main outcome measures: 12-months net and gross number of sick-leave days. Secondary outcomes: Symptoms of stress, depression, anxiety; work ability and health related quality of life (EQ-5D) over 12 months. Results: There were no significant differences between intervention and control groups after 12 months: days on sick-leave (12-months net sick-leave days, intervention, mean = 110.7 days (95% confidence interval (CI) 82.6 − 138.8); control, mean = 99.1 days (95% CI 73.9 − 124.3)), stress, depression, or anxiety symptoms, work ability or EQ-5D. There were no significant differences between intervention and control groups concerning proportion on sick-leave after 3, 6, 12 months. At 3 months 64.8% were on sick-leave in intervention group vs 54.3% in control group; 6 months 38% vs 32.8%, and12 months 16.9% vs 15.5%. Conclusion: Increased cooperation at the PCC between GP, care manager and RC for stress-related mental disorder coupled with an early workplace contact in the form of a person-centred dialogue meeting does not reduce days of sick-leave or speed up rehabilitation. Purpose: To compare the trunk biomechanical characteristics between the sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit performed at self-selected and fast speeds in stroke survivors and healthy-matched controls. Methods: Thirty individuals (15 stroke survivors and 15 healthy-matched controls) were included. The following biomechanical characteristics were determined: peak of trunk forward flexion and time until the peak of trunk forward flexion, total duration, phase I (sit-to-stand: time spent from the beginning to seat-off; stand-to-sit: time spent from the beginning to seat-on) and II durations (sit-to-stand: time spent from seat-off to the end of the task; stand-to-sit: time spent from the seat-on to the end of the task). Two-way repeated measures ANOVA was used (α = 5%). Results: The maximum angle of trunk forward flexion and time spent until the maximum angle of trunk forward flexion in both tasks were significantly higher in stroke survivors. For both groups and speeds, phase I duration and peak of trunk forward flexion of the stand-to-sit were significantly higher than that of the sit-to-stand (11.41≤F ≤ 33.60; 0.001 ≤ p ≤ 0.002) and, phase II duration was significantly higher during the sit-to-stand than that of the stand-to-sit (21.27 ≤ F ≤ 65.10; p ≤ 0.001). Conclusions: These results confirm specific trunk biomechanical characteristics between sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit in stroke survivors and healthy-matched controls. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Specific biomechanical characteristics between the sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit were confirmed in stroke survivors and healthy-matched controls at both speeds. Fast speeds showed differences that were not observed at self-selected speeds. Purpose: To explore student and tutor perspectives on the learning efficacy of virtual, compared to in-person, problem-based tutorial (PBT) in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech-language pathology health professional programs. Materials and Methods: This was a quality improvement study using a cross sectional survey at a single institution. Separate student and tutor surveys were disseminated online. Students received the survey at two timepoints, tutors received the survey at one timepoint. Descriptive statistics summarized quantitative survey questions. Chi-squared or Fischer's Exact analyses explored differences between in-person and virtual PBT. Exploratory analyses determined if associations amongst programs and/or between cohorts existed on variables of interest. Open-ended survey questions were analyzed using content analysis. Results: A total of 241 students and 85 tutors completed the survey. Results demonstrate most students and tutors were satisfied with the use of virtual tutorials (77%; 89% respectively) and felt that they were effective in exploring content within the PBT course. However, students in the most recent cohort rated virtual tutorials more highly (p = 0.01). Conclusions: Virtual modes of PBT were successful in achieving course objectives and led to high satisfaction in users. Health professional programs can use this information when designing virtual problem-based tutorial courses in the post-pandemic era. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Problem-based learning (PBL) involves the active engagement of students in self-directed learning where learning gaps are identified, and information is retrieved and critically appraised to apply clinical reasoning to healthcare decisions. Traditionally, the PBL process has been implemented in-person through the use of small group tutorial with six to eight students and a tutor, however, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a quick transition to virtual tutorials. This study found that virtual modes of conducting PBL tutorial were successful in achieving course objectives and both students and tutors were satisfied with using virtual means to achieve course objectives in three professional rehabilitation programs (Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology). Health professional programs in rehabilitation can use this information when designing courses using PBL processes in the future, and clinicians can use this information when considering the use of virtual means for care and for collaboration between professionals in various healthcare settings. Purpose: Person-centred care is widely accepted as being central to high quality care, but little is known about how physiotherapists implement person centred rehabilitation in Intensive Care. This study explores the self-reported experiences and interpretations of physiotherapists delivering person-centred rehabilitation in this setting. Methods: A qualitative study using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis explored the lived experiences of physiotherapists and students who have worked in Intensive Care. Three focus groups, with four participants in each, were conducted. Data were fully transcribed, analysed and managed using NVivo software. Results: Participants shared similar interpretations about the principles of person-centred care. Operationalising person-centred rehabilitation during early recovery was not easily achievable. As the person's clinical condition improved, participants moved away from routine physiotherapy and their practice became more person-centred through the development of a partnership. Participants connected as humans to understand the person and respond to their needs within a culture that valued person-centred care. Conclusions: Physiotherapists aspire to develop a partnership with their patients by connecting on a human level with them and addressing their biopsychosocial needs. Physiotherapists with experience of developing patient partnerships influence the culture of the Intensive Care team and are role-models to facilitate collaborative person-centred activity in others. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Physiotherapists can move from a biomedical approach towards becoming partners with patients in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as they become cognitively aware. Physiotherapists become person-centred by connecting as humans to the patient and moving towards a biopsychosocial approach that addresses the physical, psychological and instrumental needs of the patient in ICU. When aiming towards a person-centred approach on ICU, physiotherapists contribute to a culture that nurtures the unique patient and works collaboratively with the family and the health care team. Method: Eight data bases were searched for peer reviewed studies (2005–2021) which met inclusion criteria. Data extraction and quality assessment for sixteen studies was performed by two reviewers. Narrative synthesis was conducted. Results: Eleven validated PREM's were identified which captured data for 15,831 PwLTNC. PREM scores indicated positive and negative experiences for people with Multiple Sclerosis (n = 13,123), Parkinson's Disease (n = 2215) and Acquired Brain Injury (n = 493). Negative experiences related to Picker Institute Principles: 1 (accessibility); 3 (coordination/continuity); 4 (involvement/support for family and carers); 5 (information provision), 6 (Involvement in decision making) and 7 (empathy and emotional support). Conclusion: Quantitative PREM's provide evidence of process quality and person-centred care within community rehabilitation and support services across large data sets of heterogeneous neurological conditions and geographical locations. Quality improvement initiatives for people with MS, PD and ABI should target processes relating to Picker Institute Principles 1,3,4,5,6, and 7. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Quantitative validated Patient Reported Experience Measures can be used to evaluate process quality and person- centred care within community rehabilitation and support services for people with long term neurological conditions. Experiences of people with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease and Acquired Brain Injury indicate the need for quality improvement in community rehabilitation. Purpose: This study explored how health professionals experience in what way a digital self-monitoring solution influences their consulting practice targeting individuals with low back pain. Material and Methods: This was a qualitative study adopting a constructivist grounded theory approach. Nineteen health professionals participated in the pilot test of the digital self-monitoring solution BackTrace. Data were collected cross-sectionally and consisted of: (a) audio recordings from focus groups with health professionals, (b) field notes from participant observation of online meetings with health professionals, (c) field notes from participant observations of consultations between health professionals and individuals with low back pain and (d) audio recordings from workshops with health professionals. Results: Two main themes and one sub-theme were identified, describing how BackTrace enabled more focused consulting practices, supported patient-self management and improved the relationship between individuals with low back pain and health professionals. Barriers were identified describing how the implementation of digital health solutions required a change in workflow, resources and culture - as well as management support. Conclusions: Findings indicated a need for a change at the system level, including a changed view of digitisation in healthcare systems containing a more supporting approach. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Low back pain is a leading cause of disability which not only impacts physically but restricts quality of life. This study shows how health professionals experience in what way digital self-monitoring solutions influence their consulting practices targeting individuals with low back pain. Purpose: Improving quality of life (QoL) is a major goal of rehabilitation following spinal cord injury (SCI). However, people with disabilities in resource constrained contexts have limited access to rehabilitation and poorer health outcomes, including QoL. There is a paucity of qualitative research on the experiences of persons with SCI involved in rehabilitation programmes in low-middle income countries. This study aimed to assess participants' perceptions of the benefits of a 24-week SCI rehabilitation programme delivered as part of a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) in South Africa. Materials and methods: Sixteen participants, with chronic motor-incomplete tetraplegia, were enrolled in a two-arm pilot RCT involving robotic locomotor training, a novel technology, and standard activity-based training (Pan African Clinical Trial Registry (PACTR201608001647143)). Data were collected via in-depth interviews and analysed using thematic analysis. Results: Participants described several improvements in QoL, including enhanced functional independence; reduced secondary complications; and improved psychosocial and emotional well-being. Conclusions: The holistic approach to rehabilitation calls for the involvement of individuals' views about what matters to them to inform clinical practice and to highlight the role that physical activity and the perceived successes play in shaping the lived experiences after SCI. Most stroke survivors have ongoing deficits and report unmet needs. Despite evidence that rehabilitation improves stroke survivors' function, access to occupational and physical therapy is limited. Describing access to care for disadvantaged communities for different levels of stroke severity will provide proportions used to create Markov economic models to demonstrate the value of rehabilitation. The objective of this study was to explore differences in the frequency of rehabilitation evaluations via outpatient therapy and home health for Medicare Part B ischemic stroke survivors in rural and socially disadvantaged locations. We completed a retrospective, descriptive cohort analysis using the 2018 and 2019 5% Medicare Limited Data Sets (LDS) from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services using STROBE guidelines for observational studies. We extracted rehabilitation Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for those who received occupational or physical therapy to examine differences in therapy evaluations for rural and socially disadvantaged populations. Of the 9,076 stroke survivors in this cohort, 44.2% did not receive any home health or outpatient therapy. Of these, 64.7% had a moderate or severe stroke, indicating an unmet need for therapy. Only 2.0% of stroke survivors received outpatient occupational therapy within the first year Rural and socially disadvantaged communities accessed rehabilitation evaluations at lower rates than general stroke survivors. These findings describe the poor access to home health and outpatient rehabilitation for stroke survivors, particularly in traditionally underserved populations. determinants of access to rehabilitation professionals after stroke in middle-income countries, where the burden of this disease is higher, are little known. To identify the determinants of access to rehabilitation professionals by individuals with stroke at one, three, and six months after hospital discharge in Brazil and compare referral and access rates after discharge. Longitudinal and prospective study, with individuals with primary stroke, without previous disabilities. At hospital discharge, the number of rehabilitation professionals referred by the multidisciplinary team was recorded. The possible determinants of access, according to Andersen's model, were: a) predisposing factors: age, sex, education levels, and belief that they could improve with treatment; b) need factors: stroke severity, levels of disability; c) enabling factors: socioeconomic status, disposable income for health care, and quality of care provided by rehabilitation professionals. One, three, and six months after hospital discharge, individuals were contacted to identify which rehabilitation professionals were accessed. Multiple linear regression model and Wilcoxon tests were used (α=5%). 201 individuals were included. Disability levels and stroke severity explained 31%, 34%, and 39% (p<0.01) of access at one, three, and six months after hospital discharge, respectively. In all periods, there was less access than that recommended at the time of hospital discharge (p<0.01). Need factors (disability levels and stroke severity) were determinants of access in all assessed periods. Brain injury videos on YouTube were collected in November 2022 and analysed quantitatively and qualitatively using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Visual data analysis was used to generate visual descriptions of a representative sample of the videos, and these were thematically analysed alongside the video transcripts.The sample of 100 YouTube videos consisted of educational, lived experience, and promotional videos. Medical organisations and hospitals were the predominant source of videos. An overarching theme of “Video tells a story” was generated from eighteen visual descriptions and transcripts which contained three major themes: (a) we choose how the story is told, (b) recovery is a process, and (c) it changed my life.YouTube may have a storytelling role for both people with a brain injury wishing to share their story and for health professionals wishing to communicate information about brain injury. An updated search was conducted in December 2023. Studies were eligible if they reported on experiences related to living with DM1 from people with adult-onset DM1, caregivers or healthcare professionals. Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method studies were included. Key findings were categorized using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) components.11 out of 1842 studies were included, of which five had a quantitative design, five had a qualitative design and one study had a mixed methods design. The studies reported on multiple experiences of living with adult-onset DM1 from the perspectives of people with the disease and their caregivers. All components of the ICF were reported in the studies; activity and participation and personal factors were the most reported.Adult-onset DM1 is a complex disease with great biopsychosocial impact making it challenging to live with for those diagnosed with DM1 as well as their caregivers. This scoping review evaluated whether and how studies support these claims.A search for studies published up until October 2023 involving virtual reality or exergames for patients with neurological disorders (stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury) was conducted on PubMed and Scopus, with additional articles identified through backward and forward citation searching. Studies collecting gait measurements, with at least five participants and a control group were included. Data extracted were rationale, and whether participants’ enjoyment of the intervention and training intensity were assessed.1060 records were identified with 58 included in this review. There were 34 articles on stroke, 11 on multiple sclerosis, and 13 on Parkinson’s disease. Participant enjoyment and greater training intensity were important rationales but were only evaluated in 12 and seven of the included studies, respectively.Results highlight that participant enjoyment and heightened training intensity are commonly cited rationales for using exergames in gait rehabilitation, but these effects are assumed and not routinely measured or analysed. This study shows the development of a robotic Task Specific Training (TST) protocol and evaluate the achieved dose.Mixed-method study. A 3D robotic device for the upper limb, was made available to therapists for use during neurorehabilitation sessions. A first phase allowed clinicians to define a dedicated session protocol for TST. In a second phase the protocol was applied and the achieved dose was measured.First phase (N = 5): a specific protocol, using deweighting for assessment, followed by customised passive movements and then active movement practice was developed. Second phase: the protocol was successfully applied with all participants (N = 10). Intervention duration: 4.5 ± 0.8 weeks, session frequency: 1.4 ± 0.2sessions/week, session length: 42 ± 9mins, session density: 39 ± 13%, intensity: 214 ± 84 movements/session, difficulty: dn = 0.77 ± 0.1 (normalised reaching distance) and Ɵ = 6.3 ± 23° (transverse reaching angle). Sessions’ density and intensity were consistent across participants but clear differences of difficulty were observed. We purposefully recruited rich cases. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed with grounded theory data-analysis. Initial, focused, and theoretical coding were first performed independently by two authors and followed by discussion in consensus meetings with all authors. Ultimately, a conceptual model was created.Thirteen participants were interviewed between March and May 2023. Seven theoretical codes were found. The first is the need to achieve a new normal, being able to function with their medical history and megaprosthesis in a new normal life. Two key values patients needed were being understood and being prepared. Four important conditions that patients needed were: optimal conditions for rehabilitation, a trustworthy physical therapist, a clear closure from rehabilitation, and access to expertise in the hospital. The core category was achieving a new normal.Patients with bone sarcoma need rehabilitation to achieve a new normal life. Exercise-based care is first-line recommendation, but an insufficient exercise dose hampers effectiveness. This study explores individual and contextual barriers and facilitators for delivery of and adherence to exercise-based care in people with SAPS.Participants in this exploratory qualitative study were involved in the management of SAPS in Denmark. Triangular interviews and analyses were conducted within 3 themes (delivery of recommended services, adherence to recommendations, and frames of the clinical pathways) using the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) and the Behavioural Change Wheel model (BCW) to map barriers and facilitators into the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation and Behaviour (COM-B) model.From interviews with 10 persons with SAPS and 37 healthcare practitioners and double-deductive analyses, 30 subjects of target behaviour within 13 TDF domains emerged across perspectives and COM-B components. Central barriers to delivery and adherence were inconsistencies in diagnostic terminology, cross-professional disagreements, beliefs, and expectations towards pathway services.We identified interrelated individual and contextual barriers to delivery and adherence across all aspects of the BCW, underpinning the complexity of the subject. BackgroundMethodResultsConclusionImpaired self-awareness (ISA) is common in individuals with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and can lead to reduced awareness of one’s difficulties. Previous reviews have found that ISA impacts on functional outcomes in rehabilitation. However, to date there has not been a systematic literature review which examines how ISA impacts on the process of rehabilitation in ABI populations.A literature search was conducted using several databases in May 2024, including Academic Search Premier, CINAHL, MEDLINE, APA PsycARTICLES and APA PsycINFO. Seventeen articles were selected for the review and were analyzed using Narrative Synthesis.Four themes arose from the findings, including goal setting, treatment adherence, engagement and willingness to change and time spent in hospital. ISA was found to impact on the value adult ABI participants placed in rehabilitation, which decreased treatment compliance, motivation, and engagement. ISA also impacted on goal setting and behavior and resulted in a longer length of time spent in hospital.This review emphasizes the impact of ISA on various aspects/processes of rehabilitation in ABI and provides considerations of how clinicians might adapt interventions to manage these difficulties. How physical therapists address low levels of self-efficacy is unknown. Our objectives were to determine (1) knowledge and confidence in addressing patients’ self-efficacy; (2) strategies used to address low self-efficacy; and (3) barriers.Licensed physical therapists who are actively treating patients in the United States participated in our mixed-methods study consisting of: (1) a survey on knowledge, barriers, and confidence; and (2) interviews on strategies used to address low self-efficacy. Descriptive statistics were calculated on all quantitative data. Braun and Clarke’s 6-phase thematic analysis was used for the qualitative data.All 37 participants believed that self-efficacy impacts HEP completion. The majority (72.9%) reported addressing low self-efficacy. Barriers that impacted the ability to address low self-efficacy (Theme 1) included lack of knowledge, confidence, tools, guidance, and community resources, patients’ past experiences and complexities, inability to follow-up with patients, and reimbursement. Due to these barriers, participants primarily addressed patients’ low self-efficacy via communication (Theme 2) and ensuring successful exercise completion (Theme 3).Instead of using Bandura’s fours sources of self-efficacy (i.e., mastery experiences, verbal persuasion, vicarious experiences, physiological state), participants verbalized addressing low self-efficacy via communication and successful exercise completion. Abstract\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONObjective: A systematic review of 30 full-text articles was conducted on user acceptance of technologies that assist people who have functional difficulties (FD) with activities of daily living (ADLs) and mobility. Our objective was to better understand the adoption of mobility assistive products (mobAP) among people with FD.Methods: A literature search in EBSCO, PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science yielded 423 articles. Ultimately, thirty articles met our inclusion criteria.Results: Four overarching themes were identified using a thematic analysis approach. The themes were Empowerment Through the Use of Mobility Assistive Products, Incorporating User-Centered Design, Understanding the Challenges Users Encounter, and Improvements to Research Design. These themes highlight trends across studies that indicate that mobility assistive products have the potential to improve the well-being of people with FD. Still, significant efforts need to be made to improve the training with these devices. Moreover, researchers, healthcare providers, and designers should carefully consider the environmental, social, and facilitating conditions that moderate acceptance of these products.Conclusion: This work advocates for more inclusive research design methodologies based on the limitations of the included studies. Ultimately, this review highlights the importance of understanding mobility assistive product acceptance among people with FD. AbstractPurposeMethodsResultsConclusions\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONTo describe experiences of the ward nurse in relation to extended physiotherapy and mobilising of post-ICU patients.Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 registered nurses working on surgical wards in a Swedish regional hospital. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyse the data. The study was reported according to the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (COREQ).The study findings are presented in three categories: challenges to mobilising post-ICU patients, shared responsibility facilitates mobilisation, and extended physiotherapy is beneficial for patients’ wellbeing. Nurses stated that they lacked knowledge and skills to perform the safe mobilisation of post-ICU patients due to their complex medical history and needs. Collaboration with physiotherapists was perceived to facilitate mobilisation and to be beneficial for patients’ wellbeing outcome.The study indicates that post-ICU patients are at risk of remaining immobilised because ward nurses find mobilisation too complex to conduct without support from physiotherapists. Shared responsibility through multi-professional teamwork regarding patient rehabilitation is perceived as contributing the knowledge required to achieve safe mobilisation that enhances autonomy and physical ability in post-ICU patients.Level of mobilisation is commonly reduced when patients are transferred from ICU to ward.Collaboration between physiotherapists and nurses can facilitate a first mobilisation in a safe way and subsequently be beneficial for patients’ wellbeing.There is a need for a more robust healthcare chain which promotes continued rehabilitation and reduces the risk of physical decline for the individual patient after being transferred from ICU to ward. AbstractPurposeMaterials and methodsResultsConclusions\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONRecently, the Concussion James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership (JLAPSP) (Canada) identified serious research gaps regarding diagnosis, management, and access to effective rehabilitation for concussion/mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Our aim was to determine if the same research priorities are important to Australian health professionals working in the concussion/mTBI field.A survey was distributed via professional networks, social media, professional group listservs, a research project noticeboard, and at conferences. It comprised of 25 of the highest ranked concussion research questions from the JLAPSP. We examined how professionals ranked the research questions and analyzed variation in ranking by clinical role and concussion/mTBI work experience.Our sample of 187 participants included medical and allied health professionals. Most participants were occupational therapists (22%), physiotherapists (18%), neuropsychologists (17%), and worked in Victoria (47%), New South Whales (18%), or Queensland (15%) in metropolitan areas. AbstractPurposeMaterials and methodsResultsConclusions\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONTo evaluate the psychometric properties of a Fall Concerns Scale for people who use Wheelchairs and Scooters (FCS-WC/S).Developed by fall prevention experts, FCS-WC/S underwent refinement through interdisciplinary reviews and focus groups with researchers, clinicians, and individuals who use WC/S full-time. The psychometric evaluation involved adults who used WC/S for ≥1 year and had ≥1 fall in the previous 3 years, recruited between April and September 2022.The FCS-WC/S evaluates fall concerns among people with various health conditions who use WC/S full-time across 33 daily activities. One hundred and twenty-four participants responded to the baseline survey. A subgroup of 63 people repeated the FCS-WC/S a week later. The FCS-WC/S demonstrated excellent internal and good test–retest reliability (α ≥ 0.90, ICC = 0.86–0.9), as well as concurrent validity (Spearman’s rho = 0.72) with the Spinal Cord Injury Falls Concern Scale (SCI-FCS). It effectively differentiated fear of falling levels from an established measure (ORs 4.1, 25.8, 46.7). Factor and parallel analysis revealed three factors, two of which were retained for further analysis.Preliminary findings support FCS-WC/S validity and reliability for assessing fall concerns among individuals with various conditions who use WC/S.
