Background: The global COVID-19 lockdown restricted daily routines due to the psychological fear of infection, which imposed an unknown universal threat on female college students, affecting physiological health and well-being. However, scant information concerning the efficacy of yogic practice on female college students during the stressful COVID-19 pandemic situation is available. Methods: In a randomized controlled trial (n = 74, age = 21.65 [4.05] y), a study was conducted with a well-conceptualized yogic module for 5 days/week for 3 months (40 min daily in the morning) among yogic volunteers. Pre–post analysis of anthropometric, physiological, and biochemical indices in pandemic-stressed female college students was done for the control and yoga groups. Results: After 3 months of yogic practice, significant reduction (P <.05) in heart rate (d = 0.64, meandiff = 5.43), systolic blood pressure (d = 0.59, meandiff = 5.32), cortisol (d = 0.59, meandiff = 6.354), and triglycerides (P <.01, d = 0.45, meandiff = 13.95) was observed. After yogic follow-up significant improvement (P <.01) in high-frequency (d = 0.56, meandiff = −7.3), total power (d = 0.46, meandiff = −1150) and time domain parameters of heart rate variability led to ameliorate the stress index. Superoxide dismutase (P <.01, d = 0.78, meandiff = 0.69), catalase (P <.05, d = 0.48, meandiff = −7.37), glutathione (P <.001, d = 0.83, meandiff = −4.15), high-density lipoprotein (P <.05, d = 0.48, meandiff = −11.07), and dopamine (P <.001, d = 0.97, meandiff = −135.4) values along with inflammatory markers (P <.001) significantly improved among yogic volunteers after regular practice. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that a 3-month well-conceptualized yogic intervention during COVID-19 may be considered as a prophylactic tool to improve female college students' universal psychophysiological health by ameliorating autonomic functions, cardiometabolic risk factors, and immune metabolisms in an economical and environment-friendly manner. The Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling pathway controls embryonic development and tissue homeostasis after birth. This requires regulated solubilization of dual-lipidated, firmly plasma membrane-associated Shh precursors from producing cells. Although it is firmly established that the resistance-nodulation-division transporter Dispatched (Disp) drives this process, it is less clear how lipidated Shh solubilization from the plasma membrane is achieved. We have previously shown that Disp promotes proteolytic solubilization of Shh from its lipidated terminal peptide anchors. This process, termed shedding, converts tightly membrane-associated hydrophobic Shh precursors into delipidated soluble proteins. We show here that Disp-mediated Shh shedding is modulated by a serum factor that we identify as high-density lipoprotein (HDL). In addition to serving as a soluble sink for free membrane cholesterol, HDLs also accept the cholesterol-modified Shh peptide from Disp. The cholesteroylated Shh peptide is necessary and sufficient for Disp-mediated transfer because artificially cholesteroylated mCherry associates with HDL in a Disp-dependent manner, whereas an N-palmitoylated Shh variant lacking C-cholesterol does not. Disp-mediated Shh transfer to HDL is completed by proteolytic processing of the palmitoylated N-terminal membrane anchor. In contrast to dual-processed soluble Shh with moderate bioactivity, HDL-associated N-processed Shh is highly bioactive. We propose that the purpose of generating different soluble forms of Shh from the dual-lipidated precursor is to tune cellular responses in a tissue-type and time-specific manner. Introduction: To identify predictors of excessive daytime sleepiness we analyzed data from the 'Epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases in regions of Russia (ESSE-RF)' study. Methods: Data from participants of the cohort study ESSE-RF (2012-2013), aged 25-64 years, from 13 regions of Russia were analyzed (2012-2013). The participants were interviewed regarding their sleep complaints, including difficulties with initiating and maintaining sleep, sleepiness, and use of sleeping pills. Sleepiness was considered significant if it occurred at least three times a week. The examination encompassed social, demographic, and anthropometric measures, lifestyle factors, self-reported diseases, and laboratory parameters. The final analysis included 13,255 respondents. Results: Frequent (≥3 times/week) sleepiness was reported by 5,8%, and occasional sleepiness (1--2 times/week) by 10.8% of respondents. Multivariate regression analysis identified significant predictors of frequent sleepiness. Sleep complaints (insomnia, sleep apnea, snoring) and frequent use of sleep medication were prominent factors. Additionally, age, female gender, higher education, and retirement status were associated with sleepiness. Beyond demographics and sleep, the analysis revealed predictors: abnormal anxiety levels, low high-density lipoprotein, high salt intake and following medical conditions: arrhythmia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, other heart diseases, and renal disease. Conclusion: This study identified a significant prevalence of EDS in Russians, aligning with global trends. However, findings suggest potential regional variations. Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have been reported to have effects beyond lowering blood glucose levels, with certain SGLT2i expanding their indications to chronic kidney disease and chronic heart failure. We focused on the hepatoprotective and renoprotective effects of six SGLT2i and assessed whether the effects were unique to each drug or common class effects, in addition to whether the renal and hepatoprotective effects vary based on renal and hepatic status. Methods: Patients with diabetes (ipragliflozin: 837, empagliflozin: 850, canagliflozin: 922, dapagliflozin: 590, tofogliflozin: 288, and luseogliflozin: 193) who initiated SGLT2i treatment and were monitored for one year were included. The propensity score (PS) was calculated using patient backgrounds (age, sex, height, weight, body mass index [BMI], disease duration, concomitant diabetes medications, underlying conditions, glycated hemoglobin [HbA1c], estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR], aspartate aminotransferase [AST], alanine aminotransferase [ALT], high-density lipoprotein [HDL], low-density lipoprotein [LDL], and triglyceride [TG] levels) as covariates. Additionally, the inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) approach was used to compare liver and renal function test values. Results: Pre- and 12-month post-treatment comparisons demonstrated a significant reduction in hepatic function (AST and ALT) and an increase in renal function (eCcr and eGFR) for all SGLT2i. Comparison of differences between pre- and 12-month post-treatment using the IPTW approach demonstrated no significant differences in AST, ALT, and eGFR levels between SGLT2i. At 12 months post-treatment, 67 patients were classified as having a more severe CKD than those at pre-treatment, representing only 1.8% of all patients (67/3,680). Similarly, 107 patients with AST and 147 patients with ALT were classified as having progressed to a more severe grade than at pre-treatment, representing only 2.9 and 4.0%, respectively. We examined the association between walkability and blood lipids in a nationally representative sample of 29,649 participants aged 3–79 years who participated in the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) cycles 1 to 6. We focused on seven lipid biomarkers: apolipoprotein A (Apo A), apolipoprotein B (Apo B), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), total cholesterol (TC), and TC/HDL. Cross-sectional associations were analyzed using generalized linear mixed models incorporating survey-specific sampling weights. An increase in the Canadian Active Living Environments Index, a measure of neighborhood walkability, equivalent to the magnitude of its interquartile range (IQR) was associated with the following percentage (95% confidence intervals (CI)) changes in lipids: decreased TG, -2.85 (-4.77, -0.93) and TC/HDL, -1.68 (-2.80, -0.56), and increased HDL, 1.68 (0.93, 2.42). Significant effects were largely restricted to adults (aged 17 to 79). In the younger age group there were no significant associations between walkability and lipids in the fully adjusted model. Significant associations were more frequently seen in females than males. For females, fully adjusted significant inverse associations were observed for TG, LDL, and TC/HDL, and there were positive associations with HDL and Apo A. Canadians living in more walkable neighborhoods have more favorable lipid profiles, suggesting that the built environment has the potential to influence the risk profile for cardiovascular health, especially among adults and females. Current data suggest that oxidative stress may play an important role in the occurrence of acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC), as chorioretinal integrity may be affected by disruption of the patient's metabolic redox balance, indicating the need for biomarkers. In addition to oxidative stress, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) dysfunction due to dyslipidemia can also lead to many types of physical discomfort. However, little is known about the pathophysiology of the disease resulting from oxidative stress and HDL dysfunction in CSC. The aim of this study was to investigate whether serum oxidative stress and HDL functionality markers have an impact on CSC disease. The case series of this study included 33 consecutive patients with treatment-naïve acute CSC. Thirty-five healthy volunteers of similar age were included in this study as non-CSC controls. Serum samples of the participants were taken and routine lipid values, serum Total Antioxidant Status (TAS), Total Oxidant Status (TOS), Oxidized Low Density Lipoprotein (ox-LDL), and Paraoxonase (PON1) levels were measured quantitatively. Serum oxidative stress index (OSI) was then calculated. Serum Ox-LDL, TOS and OSI levels in the acute CSC group, consisting of patients who had never been treated before and had no other disease, were statistically significantly higher than the control group. Conversely, serum PON1 and TAS levels were lower in CSC than in the control group. The relationship between CSC and deterioration in serum redox balance and decrease in PON1 activity, an important marker of HDL functionality, was demonstrated for the first time through this study. According to the literature, serum levels of these biomarkers, which identify acute/chronic inflammation and oxidative stress, have not been measured before in CSC disease. Method: Twenty inactive males (BMI 27.67 ± 0.88 kg/m2, age 49.15 ± 2.58 years) participated in an eight-week were randomly assigned to one of three intervention groups (combined (CT), resistance (RT), and aerobic (AT)) exercise modalities to assess within-subject and between group changes in glycolipid profile. Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANCOVA. Result: Pre-post mean values of body fat percentage (%BF), area under the curve (AUC), low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL) and total cholesterol (TC) decreased in all three groups. The main effect of exercise modality on the AUC (F (2, 26) = 10.577, P = 0.001, η2 = 0.569) was significant. Post-hoc analyses revealed that the RT group (-30.653 ± 6.766, p = 0.001) with 11.53% and the CT group (M = -0.896, SE = 3.347, P = 0.015) with 3.79% exhibited significantly greater reductions in AUC compared to the AT group. LDL levels showed significant different between groups (F (2, 26) = 6.33, p = 0.009, η2 = 0.442), specially significantly 3.7% lowered in AT (MD = 4.783, SE = 1.563, P = 0.002) and 3.79% lower in CT (MD = 4.57, SE = 1.284, P = 0.008) groups compared to the RT group. AT significantly reduced TC by 17.716 ± 5.705 mg/dL (p = 0.02) compared to RT, representing a 7.97% decrease. Conclusion: Exercise type significantly influences lipid profiles and glycemic control. Notably, both aerobic and combined training demonstrated a superior ability to modulate the lipid profile, and resistance training and combined training were more effective in reducing the AUC. Background: Previous studies have shown significant associations between individual fat-soluble vitamins (FSVs) and metabolic syndromes (MetS). However, evidence on the multiple FSVs co-exposure and MetS odds is limited. Given that individuals are typically exposed to different levels of FSVs simultaneously, and FSVs can interact with each other. It's necessary to explore the association between multiple FSVs co-exposure and MetS odds. This study aims to address this gap in general U.S. adults aged ≥ 20 years. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANESs) 2003–2006 and 2017–2018. Three FSV, including vitamin A (VA), vitamin E (VE), and vitamin D (VD), and MetS diagnosed according to the ATP III guidelines were selected as exposure and outcome, respectively. Multivariable-adjusted logistic model was used to explore the associations of individual FSV exposure with MetS odds and MetS components. Restricted cubic splines were performed to explore the dose–response relationships among them. The quantile g-computation method was adopted to explore the associations of multiple FSVs co-exposure with MetS odds and MetS components. Results: The presented study included a total of 13,975 individuals, with 2400 (17.17%) were diagnosed with MetS. After adjusting for various confounders, a positive linear pattern was observed for serum VA and VE and MetS associations. Serum VD was found to be negatively associated with MetS in a linear dose–response way. For each component of MetS, higher serum VA and VE were associated with higher triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein; higher serum VD was negatively associated with triglyceride, blood pressure, and fasting plasma glucose. MetS odds increased by 15% and 13%, respectively, in response to one quartile increase in FSVs co-exposure index (qgcomp) in the conditional model (OR = 1.15, 95%CI: 1.06, 1.24) and the marginal structural model (OR = 1.13, 95%CI: 1.06, 1.20). Besides, co-exposure to VA, VE, and VD was positively associated with triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, and blood pressure levels. Conclusion: Findings in the present study revealed that high serum VA and VE levels were associated with elevated MetS odds, while serum VD was inversely associated with MetS odds. Background: Preoperative immune-inflammatory condition influencing the metabolism of malignancies. We sought to investigate the prognostic value of a novel immune-inflammatory metabolic marker, the monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio (MHR), in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 118 patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer and obstructive jaundice who underwent allogeneic vascular replacement pancreaticoduodenectomy in our hospital from Apr. 2011 to Dec. 2023. To assess the predictive capacity of immune-inflammatory metabolic marker, we utilized the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) and assessed the predictive potential of MHR in forecasting outcomes through both univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard analyses. Results: The area under AUC for MHR in predicting 1-year postoperative survival was 0.714, with an optimal cutoff value of 1.184, yielding a sensitivity of 78.9% and specificity of 66.2%. Based on this cutoff value, patients were divided into a low MHR group (MHR =1.184, n = 61) and a high MHR group (MHR >1.184, n = 57). The median survival times for the low and high MHR groups were 27.0 months and 12.0 months, respectively (2 = 30.575, p < 0.001), and the median DFS were 18.0 months and 8.0 months, respectively (2 = 26.330, p < 0.001). Univariate and multivariate analyses indicated that preoperative MHR, preoperative creatinine, operation duration, and TNM stage were independent predictors of postoperative mortality, while preoperative MHR, preoperative creatinine, and TNM stage were independent predictors of postoperative recurrence risk. Conclusion: MHR, as an independent immune-inflammatory metabolic predictor of OS and DFS in patients with advanced PC after pancreaticoduodenectomy. Introduction: Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), a cardiovascular risk factor, increases in renal failure. The aim of this study was to investigate ADMA levels in normal weight and obese patients on hemodialysis. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 43 normal weight and 43 obese patients on regular hemodialysis were examined. Malnutrition-inflammation score (MIS), anthropometry, circulating ADMA, lipid profiles including triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and lipid ratios, glucose homeostasis parameters, blood pressure, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were assessed. Results: Serum levels of ADMA were significantly lower in the obese compared to the normal weight patients (10268.2 ± 10092.4 vs. 13765.2 ± 9951.3 ng/l, P = 0.03). At the same time MIS score (6.1 ± 2.4 vs. 10.7 ± 3.2, P < 0.001), systolic blood pressure (119 ± 26.8 vs. 134.2 ± 24.7 mmHg, P = 0.018) and mean arterial pressure (91.3 ± 18.6 vs. 100.9 ± 15.9 mmHg, P = 0.028) were significantly lower in the obese than the normal weight group. Fasting blood glucose (P = 0.045), TG/HDL (P = 0.03), TC/HDL (P = 0.019), and LDL/HDL (P = 0.005) ratios, and hs-CRP (P = 0.015) levels were significantly higher in the obese than in the normal weight group. Conclusion: Circulating ADMA was significantly lower in obese than in normal weight patients on hemodialysis, which was concomitant with lower MIS, indicating a better nutritional inflammatory status, and lower blood pressure. There is ongoing debate about the impact of vitamin D on asthma. This research is focused on investigating the correlation between serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and asthma.This cross-sectional study comprised 22,708 eligible participants. Data on asthma and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011–2018 were analyzed. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels were the main factor, with the presence of asthma as the outcome variable. Weighted logistic regression was utilized to investigate the relationship between serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and asthma, while accounting for factors such as age, gender, race, length of time in US, annual family income, education level, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and cholesterol.Upon adjusting all variables in model III, epi-25-hydroxyvitamin D3 displayed a negative correlation with current asthma at the lower quartile Q1 (0.784, [0.697 to 0.922]), Q2 (0.841, [0.729 to 0.946]), Q3 (0.396, [0.240 to 0.653]) when compared to the highest quartile Q4 level. However, no significant difference was observed between asthma and 25-hydroxyvitamin D2, as well as 25-hydroxyvitamin D3.In the U.S. population, elevated levels of epi-25-hydroxyvitamin D3 are correlated with an increased risk of developing existing asthma. Background: Observational studies have found associations between sex hormones and metabolic syndrome(Mets), but the causal relationships remains unclear. This study utilizes univariable and multivariable Mendelian randomization (MR) to elucidate the associations between sex hormones (including sex hormone-binding globulin(SHBG), estradiol(E2), testosterone(T)) and Mets and its subtypes (including waist circumference(WC), fasting blood glucose(FBG), high blood pressure(HBP), high-density lipoprotein(HDL-C), triglycerides(TG)). Methods: We utilized summary data from large-scale genome-wide association studies. Univariable Mendelian randomization (UMVMR) analysis was primarily conducted using the inverse variance weighted method (IVW), with secondary analyses employing the weighted median, MR-Egger regression, simple mode method, and weighted mode method. Subsequently, multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) was employed to assess the causal relationships between SHBG, T, E2, and MetS and its components: WC, FPG, HBP, HDL-C, and TG. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess result reliability. Results: Genetically predicted SHBG was significantly negatively associated with MetS (UMVMR: β=-0.72; 95% CI = 0.41 to 0.57; P = 1.28e-17; MVMR: β=-0.60; 95% CI=-0.83 to -0.38; P < 0.001). Positive causal relationships were observed between SHBG and WC(MVMR: β = 0.10; 95% CI = 0.03 to 0.17; P = 0.01) and HDL-C (MVMR: β = 0.41; 95% CI = 0.21 to 0.60; P < 0.001), while negative causal relationships were found between SHBG and HBP (MVMR: β=-0.02; 95% CI=-0.04 to -0.00; P = 0.02), TG (MVMR: β=-0.48; 95% CI=-0.70 to -0.26; P < 0.001). Genetically predicted E2 exhibited a negative association with TG (MVMR: β=-1.49; 95% CI=-2.48 to -0.50; P = 0.003). Genetically predicted T was negatively associated with TG (MVMR: β=-0.36; 95% CI=-0.71 to -0.00; P = 0.049) and WC (MVMR: β=-0.13; 95% CI=-0.24 to -0.02; P = 0.02), with inconsistent sensitivity analyses. Additionally, No other causal associations were found. Conclusion: Our study indicates that SHBG is a protective factor for MetS, potentially delaying its onset and progression through improvements in HBP and TG. Background: Stroke is a non-communicable disease that causes sudden global or focal neurological disorders. It is one of the major public causes of morbidity and mortality in low- and middle-income countries, including Ethiopia. Early identification of the determinants and prompt intervention remains critical to reduce morbidity and mortality from stroke. Objective: The study aimed to identify determinants of stroke among adult hypertensive patients on follow up in Addis Ababa public hospitals, Ethiopia. Methods: Unmatched case-control study design was conducted among 326(109 cases and 217 controls) study participants in Addis Ababa public hospitals from September 1–30, 2021. The cases were adult hypertensive patients who developed a stroke and the controls were adult hypertensive patients. The study participants were selected by consecutive sampling technique. Pretested structured interviewer assisted questionnaire and checklist were used to collect data. Data were entered into Epi data version 3.1; exported and analysed by SPSS version 23. All independent variables with p-value < 0.25 in the bi-variable logistic regression analysis were entered into multivariable logistic regression analysis. Finally, variables with p-value <0.05 were considered as determinants of the stroke. Results: In this study, current cigarette smoker(AOR = 5.55, 95% CI: 2.48, 12.43), current alcohol drinker(AOR = 4.27, 95% CI: 1.94, 9.38), medication non-compliance(AOR = 3.23, 95% CI: 1.62, 6.44), uncontrolled systolic blood pressure (AOR = 3.42, 95% CI: 1.64, 7.16), uncontrolled diastolic blood pressure(AOR = 4.29, 95% CI: 2.06, 8.93), high low density lipoprotein(AOR = 6.89, 95% CI: 3.57, 13.35) and diabetic mellitus(AOR = 3.25, 95% CI: 1.58, 6.69) were more likely to develop a stroke. Conclusion and recommendation: Cigarette smoking, alcohol use, non-adherence to medication, uncontrolled systolic pressure, uncontrolled diastolic blood pressure, high low-density lipoprotein, and diabetic mellitus were determinants of stroke. Introduction: High density lipoproteins (HDL) exert cardiovascular protection in part through their antioxidant capacity and cholesterol efflux function. Effects of exercise training on HDL function are yet to be well established, while impact on triacylglycerol (TG)-lowering has been often reported. Wepreviously showed that a short-term high-intensity interval training (HIIT) program improves insulin sensitivity but does not inhibit inflammatory pathways in immune cells in insulin-resistant subjects. The purpose of this study is to evaluate HDL function along with changes of lipoproteins after the short-term HIIT program in lean, obese nondiabetic, and obese type 2 diabetic (T2DM) subjects. Methods: All individuals underwent a supervised 15-day program of alternative HIIT for 40 minutes per day. VO2peak was determined before and after this training program. A pre-training fasting blood sample was collected, and the post-training fasting blood sample collection was performed 36 hours after the last exercise session. Results: Blood lipid profile and HDL function were analyzed before and after the HIIT program. Along with improved blood lipid profiles in obese and T2DM subjects, the HIIT program affected circulating apolipoprotein amounts differently. The HIIT program increased HDL-cholesterol levels and improved the cholesterol efflux capacity only in lean subjects. Furthermore, the HIIT program improved the antioxidant capacity of HDL in all subjects. Data from multiple logistic regression analysis showed that changes in HDL antioxidant capacity were inversely associated with changes in atherogenic lipids and changes in HDL-TG content. Background/Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the concentrations of follistatin and activin A in the serum of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and to assess their relationship with selected biochemical parameters, specifically stratifying the analysis based on tobacco smoke, insulin resistance, and abnormal weight. Methods: The research was carried out within a cohort of 88 women (60 women with and 28 without PCOS). Results: We observed significant differences (p < 0.05) in follistatin concentrations between women with PCOS stratified by homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) values. These differences were consistent across both smoking and non-smoking subgroups with PCOS. Similar results were observed when comparing normal-weight women with PCOS to those with overweight or obesity. Additionally, activin A concentrations were significantly increased by higher body mass index (BMI) and HOMA-IR values in non-smoking women with PCOS. Moreover, we identified a negative correlation (r = −0.30; p < 0.023) between cotinine levels and Anti-Müllerian hormone. Among smoking women with PCOS, we noted decreased concentrations of sex hormone-binding globulin and high-density lipoproteins, alongside increased fasting glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, and free androgen index values. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that activin A and follistatin concentrations are more strongly influenced by disruptions in glucose metabolism and BMI than by tobacco smoke exposure. Background: Currently, most studies on the health benefits of traditional Chinese exercises on type 2 diabetes mellitus have explored the effects of a single type of traditional Chinese exercise on type 2 diabetes. Although a previous study evaluated the combined clinical effects of traditional Chinese exercises on type 2 diabetes, the studies included in that review were deficient in their study design. In addition, previous studies have not explored the ideal exercise dose that should be taken by patients with type 2 diabetes when performing traditional Chinese exercises. Objective: To understand whether the findings of previous systematic reviews and meta-analyses are still applicable and to try to address the deficiencies in the previous review, this review conducted a meta-analysis of existing randomized controlled trials to investigate the impact of traditional Chinese exercises on glycemic control with type 2 diabetes. Methods: The literature was searched in seven Chinese and English databases. Randomized controlled trials published in English and Chinese, from database inception to March 2023, were included in this review. Two reviewers independently reviewed the search results, extracted the data, and assessed the risk of bias. A meta-analysis of the included studies was conducted using Rev Man 5.4 and Stata 15.1 software. Heterogeneity was investigated using a sensitivity analysis, a subgroup analysis, and a meta-regression analysis. Pre-determined subgroups included the duration of the intervention, frequency of exercise, and duration of the single exercise session. Results: A total of 31 randomized controlled trials (2077 subjects) were selected in this review. The meta-analysis revealed that traditional Chinese exercises were more effective than control groups in lowering glycated hemoglobin (Z = 6.06; mean difference [MD] = − 0.64, 95% confidence interval [CI] − 0.85, − 0.44; P < 0.00001), fasting blood glucose (Z = 7.81; MD = − 0.82, 95% CI − 1.03, − 0.62; P < 0.00001), 2-h plasma glucose (Z = 5.61; MD = − 1.03, 95% CI − 1.39, − 0.67; P < 0.00001), total cholesterol (Z = 4.23; MD = − 0.37, 95% CI − 0.54, − 0.20; P < 0.0001), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (Z = 5.94; MD = 0.12, 95% CI 0.08, 0.16; P < 0.00001), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (Z = 6.20; MD = − 0.34, 95% CI − 0.44, − 0.23; P < 0.00001), and triglyceride levels (Z = 3.74; MD = − 0.44, 95% CI − 0.67, − 0.21; P = 0.0002) among patients with type 2 diabetes. Conclusions: Traditional Chinese exercises can significantly improve blood glucose and lipid levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. This means using a patient management approach that is more system- and holistic-focused. This change recognizes the reality that the human body is a complex network of interrelated organs and systems and that illness in one area of the body may spread to seemingly unrelated areas of the body. Aim: The purpose of this study is to determine the lipid profile, mean blood glucose while fasting, impaired fasting glucose, and COPD patients with and without MetS. Materials & methods: After receiving permission from the Institutional Ethics Committee, the researchers started to work on their project. Patients diagnosed with MetS/COPD numbered a total of one hundred. We obtained information on the patient's whole medical history, including details about their occupation, income, smoking habits, diabetes, hypertension, and acute episodes. When determining body composition, height and mass were also taken into consideration. Every patient had a chest x-ray as well as an electrocardiogram. Result: The study indicated that fifty-five percent of patients had abdominal obesity, fifty-two percent had hypertension, fifty-two percent had impaired fasting glucose, forty-two percent had elevated triglycerides, and forty-eight percent had inadequate HDL cholesterol. We found hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia to be the most frequent factors, contrary to global research that found abdominal obesity to be the most common. Our department must enhance non-communicable disease screening to detect COPD patients with undiagnosed diabetes, dyslipidemia, or hypertension. Conclusion: Abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and low HDL cholesterol were more common in metabolic syndrome patients. Many differences existed between the groups. Diseases of the heart and blood vessels (CVD) are the leading cause of death worldwide, remaining an important concern for researchers, doctors, and patients alike. CVD encompasses a wide range of diseases that affect the heart, blood vessels, and blood. The study collected 80 blood serum samples, including 55 samples from patients with coronary artery disease and 25 healthy samples serving as a control group, collected from outpatient clinics in Samarra city from april 2023 to November 2023, with ages ranging from 25 to 55 years. The purpose was to evaluate the levels of chemerin, Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Total Cholesterol (TC), Low-density lipoprotein (LDL-c), High-density lipoprotein (HDL-c), and Triglycerides (TG) in the coronary artery disease group and the control group. The results showed a significant increase (P ≤0.05) in chemerin, TC, LDL-c, and TG levels in the patient group compared to the control group, as well as a significant decrease (P ≤0.05) in SOD and (HDL-c) levels in the patient group compared to the control group. The area under the curve for chemerin and other measurements showed excellent accuracy in diagnosing the disease, in addition to high sensitivity and specificity, indicating the precision of the measurements as a diagnostic marker for the disease. Obicetrapib is a selective inhibitor of cholesteryl ester transfer protein that is currently in phase 3 of development for the treatment of dyslipidemia as adjunct therapy. The purpose of this study was to comprehensively characterize the pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) disposition of obicetrapib. Data from 7 clinical trials conducted in healthy adults and those with varying degrees of dyslipidemia were included for model development. The structural model that best described obicetrapib PK was a 3‐compartment model with 4‐compartment transit absorption and first‐order elimination. Body weight was the only covariate found to significantly explain observed variability and was therefore included using allometric scaling on all disposition parameters. For a typical patient weighing 75 kg, the estimated apparent total body clearance and apparent volume of distribution of the central compartment was 0.81 L/h and 36.1 L, respectively. The final PK model parameters were estimated with good precision and were ultimately leveraged to sequentially inform 2 turnover models that describe obicetrapib's effect on low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C) and high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL‐C) concentrations. The maximum stimulatory effect of obicetrapib on LDL‐C loss was estimated to be 1.046, while the maximum inhibitory effect of obicetrapib on HDL‐C loss was 0.691. This corresponds to a predicted typical maximum percent change from baseline LDL‐C and HDL‐C of 51.1% and 224%, respectively. The final sequential model described obicetrapib PKPD well and was ultimately able to both demonstrate evidence of internal consistency and support decision‐making throughout the development lifecycle. Objective: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and insulin resistance (IR) are associated with diabetes. Insulin therapy in type 1 diabetes (T1DM) may complicate the diagnosis of both these conditions. Therefore, investigation of the diagnostic efficacy of MetS and IR components is important in paediatric population with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Methods: SCOPUS, Web of Science, and PubMed were searched for studies that have MetS and IR in paediatric populations with T1DM. We assessed the strength of association for MetS and IR components. A random effect model was used for the meta-analysis and the effect size was reported in terms of Hedge's g. Results: A total 30 studies were identified relevant to our systematic search. Insulin dosage and HbA1c, markers for glycemic condition showed very small effect on MetS with T1DM. In the lipid profile, triglyceride (TG) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) showed better effect size than high-density lipoprotein (HDL). In case of IR, heterogeneous nature of studies made it difficult to carry out a meta-analysis. A descriptive review of existing and novel markers is thus provided. Conclusion: In children with T1DM, lack of association between markers of glycemic condition suggested that MetS may develop independent of glycemic level. Other than TG and HDL, LDL may be used in the diagnosis of MetS. Diabetes mellitus is a common metabolic disorder. It is associated with serious life-threatening complications if not properly managed. The current study aimed at investigating the possible protective role of propolis on streptozotocin-induced diabetic nephropathy. A diabetic rat model was induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of 55 mg/kg streptozotocin. After 4 days, the diabetic rats received oral propolis (300 mg/kg/day) via gastric gavage for 28 days. Biochemical, histopathological and ultrastructural evaluations were performed. The results showed that: streptozotocin-induced diabetes was associated with a marked decrease in the serum high-density lipoproteins and antioxidant enzymes. However, a significant elevation in the levels of serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoproteins was detected. Furthermore, streptozotocin treatment induced histopathological alterations of the renal cortex; in the form of distorted glomerular capillaries, widened Bowman's space and signs of epithelial tubular degeneration. Ultra-structurally, thickening and irregularity of the glomerular basement membrane and podocytes foot processes effacement were observed. The tubular epithelial cells showed swollen vacuolated mitochondria, scarce basal infoldings and loss of microvilli. Conversely, propolis partially restored the normal lipid profile, antioxidant biomarkers and renal cortical morphology. This study aimed to assess the diagnosis of diabetes after detecting high blood glucose levels through screening among insured individuals in Gunma, Japan. Data for men and women 35 to 74 years of age were provided by Japan Health Insurance Association, and 4133 individuals with high blood glucose levels while not currently being treated for diabetes were included in the study. About 13% received a diagnosis of diabetes at a subsequent physician visit, and individuals who were under treatment for hypertension were less likely to receive the added diagnosis of diabetes compared with those not being treated for hypertension (odds ratio = 0.42 from a logistic regression model). Hypercholesterolemia is characterized by elevated low‐density lipoprotein (LDL)‐cholesterol levels and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The adipokine chemerin is an additional risk factor. Here we investigated whether cholesterol‐lowering with statins or proprotein convertase subtilisin‐kexin type 9 inhibitors (PCSK9i) affects chemerin. Both statins and PCKS9i lowered plasma LDL‐cholesterol, triglycerides and total cholesterol in hypercholesterolemic patients, and increased high‐density lipoprotein (HDL)‐cholesterol. Yet, only statins additionally reduced chemerin and high‐sensitivity C‐reactive protein (hsCRP). Applying PCSK9i on top of statins did not further reduce chemerin. Around 20% of chemerin occurred in the HDL2/HDL3 fractions, while >75% was free. Statins lowered both HDL‐bound and free chemerin. Pull‐down assays revealed that chemerin binds to the HDL‐component Apolipoprotein A‐I (ApoA‐I). The statins, but not PCSK9i, diminished chemerin secretion from HepG2 cells by upregulating LDL receptor mRNA. Furthermore, chemerin inhibited HDL‐mediated cholesterol efflux via its chemerin chemokine‐like receptor 1 in differentiated macrophages. In conclusion, statins, but not PCSK9i, lower circulating chemerin by directly affecting its release from hepatocytes. Chemerin binds to ApoA‐I and inhibits HDL‐mediated cholesterol efflux. Statins prevent this by lowering HDL‐bound chemerin. Combined with their anti‐inflammatory effect evidenced by hsCRP suppression, this represents a novel cardiovascular protective function of statins that distinguishes them from PCSK9i. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of mortality worldwide, with dyslipidemia being a significant risk factor. This meta-analysis provides a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of bovine dairy-derived milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) supplementation on blood lipid profiles in adults. A systematic search was conducted across various databases up until March 2024, resulting in the inclusion of 6 trials with a total of 464 participants. The findings indicated that MFGM phospholipid supplementation may significantly reduce total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels. A combined analysis of the effects on TC, LDL, and triglycerides (TG) revealed a significant overall reduction in these markers. However, no significant increase or reduction was observed on high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and TG levels. Overall, MFGM phospholipid intake may significantly decrease the level of TC and LDL, while no significant changes in TG and HDL were observed. These results suggest that MFGM supplementation could be a promising dietary intervention for improving lipid profiles in adults. Background: Theileriosis is a tick-borne disease caused by protozoon species in the Theileria genus of the Theileriidae family. The biochemical changes induced by infection are considered to be an important understanding of the pathophysiology of caprine theileriosis. In this study, it was aimed to determine oxidative stress, thyroid hormones, trace elements, and biochemical parameters in theileriosis infection. Materials and Methods: A sample of 14 goat was used for this purpose, of which 7 were healthy and 7 were infected with Theileria ovis. Theileria infection was diagnosed from the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Sera from blood samples was tested for total antioxidant capacity (TAC), total oxidant capacity (TOC), oxidative stress index (OSI), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT), total protein, albumin, triglyceride, cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), urea, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), cobalt (Co), manganese (Mn), selenium (Se), iron (Fe). Result: TOC, OSI, AST, ALT and GGT values were higher in the patient group than in the healthy group (P < 0.05). On the other hand, there were decreases in TAC, T3, T4, total protein, albumin, creatinine, Cu, Zn, Se, and Co values (P < 0.05). However, there was not found to be a statistical difference between the healthy and patient groups in terms of triglyceride, cholesterol, HDL, LDL, urea, BUN, Mn, and Fe values (P > 0.05). Background: Nowadays, metabolic syndrome has become a major health threat, and affects over one billion people globally. It also plays a great role in the growth of diseases like type 2 diabetes, coronary diseases, stroke, and other chronicity. It increases the risk of cardiovascular disorder and stroke by three to ten times and diabetic mellitus by ten times. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is increasing globally as a result of epidemiological shift. Low and middle-income countries are facing an increasing burden of metabolic syndrome. There is a need for concerted efforts to modify behavioral risk factors that significantly contribute to the prevalence of the syndrome. This can be done by developing and implementing appropriate interventions that can bring behavior change after testing for effectiveness, feasibility, and acceptability. Thus, this study aims to develop and test the effectiveness, feasibility and acceptability of an education intervention promoting healthy lifestyle to reduce risk factors for metabolic syndrome, among office workers in Ethiopia. Methods and analysis: This randomized controlled trial will be implemented with 226 bank employees (age ≥18 years) with metabolic syndrome from government and private banks in Bahir Dar City, Ethiopia. Participants will be randomized to intervention (education) and control (general health advice) groups. The intervention group will be given one-on -one base education about healthy diets, physical exercise, stress management, avoidance of harmful alcohol consumption and smoking cessation by experts on health promotion. Text messages will be sent every two weeks and reading materials will also be provided. Additionally, a review meeting will be held at the 3rd and 6th month of the intervention. The primary outcomes of interest will be change in metabolic parameters (obesity levels, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein, and triglycerides). Secondary outcomes will be knowledge, attitudes and practice of the participants towards lifestyle and cardiovascular risk factors, feasibility, acceptability, implementation fidelity, and cost-effectiveness of the intervention. Data will be collected at three time points: at baseline, at the 6th month of the intervention and at the end of the intervention (9 months). Generalized linear mixed models will be utilized to compare the desired outcome between the trial arms, after accounting for baseline variations. Cost-benefit analysis and a qualitative process evaluation of the intervention will also be conducted. Discussion: This randomized control trial study will provide information on the effectiveness, feasibility, and acceptability of an education intervention promoting healthy lifestyle to reduce risk factors for metabolic syndrome, among office workers in Ethiopia, where the burden of metabolic syndrome is high among office workers. This article discusses a new mouse model that closely mimics the development of myocardial infarction, stroke, and plaque rupture, which are leading causes of death worldwide. The model allows for the study of smooth muscle cell transition in advanced lesions and has been shown to be useful in testing the effects of therapeutics. Treatment with an extracellular myeloperoxidase inhibitor improved survival and reduced major adverse cardiovascular events in the model. Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder among women. Dyslipidemia is a prevalent metabolic abnormality in individuals with PCOS. Moreover, vitamin D deficiency is widespread across all societal strata, with a particularly heightened prevalence observed in patients afflicted with PCOS. The present study aimed to investigate the level of vitamin D and its correlation with lipid profiles in Iranian women diagnosed with PCOS. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out at the PCOS and infertility clinic of Arash Women's Hospital in Tehran. The study encompassed the medical records of PCOS patients who attended the clinic from March 2021 to December 2023. All patients underwent blood tests, which included assessments of fasting blood sugar levels, lipid profiles, and 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels. The investigation focused on evaluating the relationship between vitamin D levels and lipid profiles. Statistical analyses, including the chi-square test and Spearman's correlation coefficient, were employed to analyze the data. Results: A total of 1004 women diagnosed with PCOS were included in the study. The age range of the participants was 14 to 46 years. The majority of the participants had a body mass index (BMI) within the normal range (n = 555, 55.3%). The median vitamin D level among the participants was 26.00 (IQR: 19.00–34.00). The relationship between vitamin D levels and lipid profile parameters was assessed, revealing no significant correlation between vitamin D levels and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) (r = 0.021, p = 0.505), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (r = 0.011, p = 0.719), or triglyceride (TG) (r = -0.026, p = 0.417) levels, both in non-adjusted and age-adjusted analyses. Conclusion: According to the present study, there was no significant correlation between serum 25(OH)D deficiency and elevated TG or LDL levels or decreased HDL levels in PCOS patients. Nevertheless, further prospective studies are needed to determine whether there is a causal relationship between vitamin D deficiency and lipid profile alterations, specifically among PCOS patients. Background: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is characterized by a systemic inflammatory response, predominantly associated with hepatitis B virus in the Asia-Pacific region, with a high short-term mortality rate. The platelet to high-density lipoprotein ratio (PHR) has been used to predict the prognosis of patients with various inflammatory diseases. We aim to is to use the PHR to predict the short-term prognosis of patients with HBV-ACLF. Method: In this study, we retrospectively analyzed clinical data from 270 HBV-ACLF patients. Using logistic regression, we identified independent risk factors for short-term mortality and developed a prognostic model. This model was then validated, compared, and its clinical utility assessed via decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: Among the 270 HBV-ACLF patients, 98 patients died within 28 days. The deceased group exhibited a higher proportion of severe hepatic encephalopathy and ascites. Additionally, there was a statistically significant difference (P = 0.046) in the novel inflammation scoring system, PHR, between the two groups. Following stringent variable selection, PHR was identified as a predictive factor for short-term mortality in HBV-ACLF patients using logistic regression analysis (OR: 0.835 (0.756–0.999), P = 0.009), and it exhibited a synergistic effect with certain traditional scores. The prognostic model constructed based on PHR demonstrated a superior ability to predict short-term mortality compared to traditional scores such as Child-Turcotte-Pugh (AUC: 0.889). Evaluation using calibration curves and decision curve analysis (DCA) suggested its practical utility. Despite recent findings indicating a paradoxical association between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, the impact of HDL-C on subsequent outcomes after ischemic stroke remains unclear. The study aims to investigate the relationships between HDL-C levels and post-stroke functional outcomes while examining the potential modifying influence of HDL-C-related single nucleotide polymorphisms identified through genome-wide association studies. This cohort study included 1,310 patients diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke (AIS), all of whom had their admission serum lipid profile and genotyping information. Participants were categorized into four groups based on gender and HDL-C level. Prognostic outcomes were assessed using a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at 1, 3, and 12 months post-admission. Multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline regression analysis were used to assess the associations between HDL-C levels and outcomes. The mean age of patients was 61.17 ± 12.08 years, and 69.31% were men. After adjusting confounders, patients with the highest HDL-C level group had a significantly higher risk of poor functional outcomes at 1, 3, and 12 months following stroke compared to the reference group. Restricted cubic splines depicted a nonlinear association between HDL-C levels and poor prognosis in both men and women. The ABCA1 gene rs2575876 AA genotype combined with abnormal HDL-C levels exhibited a significantly heightened risk of post-stroke adverse outcomes at 1 and 3 months compared to patients with normal HDL-C levels and GG + GA genotype. Background: Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a critical factor in heart failure and cardiovascular event-related mortality. While the prevalence of LVH in diabetic patients is well-documented, its occurrence and risk factors in non-diabetic populations remain largely unexplored. This study addresses this issue by investigating the independent risk factors of LVH in non-diabetic individuals. Methods: This cross-sectional study, conducted meticulously, utilized data from a robust and comprehensive source, DATADRYAD, in the Sierra Leone database, collected between October 2019 and October 2021, including LVH and various variables. All variables were described and screened using univariate analysis, Spearman correlation, and principal component analysis (PCA). The lipid profile, including total cholesterols (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C), non-high-density lipoprotein (Non-HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), TC/HDL-C ratio, TG/HDL-C ratio, Non-HDL-C /HDL-C ratio and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio, which quartiles were treated as categorical variables, with the lowest quartile serving as the reference category. Three adjusted models were constructed to mitigate the influence of other variables. To ensure the robustness of the model, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to calculate the cutoff values by analyzing the ROC curves. A sensitivity analysis was performed to validate the findings further. Results: The dataset encompasses information from 2092 individuals. After adjusting for potential factors that could influence the results, we found that TC (OR = 2.773, 95%CI: 1.805–4.26), Non-HDL-C (OR = 2.74, 95%CI: 1.7723–4.236), TC/HDL-C ratio (OR = 2.237, 95%CI: 1.445–3.463), Non-HDL-C/HDL-C ratio (OR = 2.357, 95%CI: 1.548–3.588), TG/HDL-C ratio (OR = 1.513, 95%CI: 1.02–2.245) acts as independent risk factors of LVH. ROC curve analysis revealed the predictive ability of blood lipids for LVH, with Non-HDL-C exhibiting area under the curve (AUC = 0.6109), followed by TC (AUC = 0.6084). Conclusions: TC, non-HDL-C, TC/HDL-C ratio, Non-HDL-C/HDL-C ratio, and TG/HDL-C ratio were independent risk factors of LVH in non-diabetic people. Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine and metabolic disturbance that affects many women worldwide and is characterized by chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and ovarian dysfunction. Placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PDMSCs) are derived from the placenta and have advantages over other sources of MSCs in terms of availability, safety, and immunomodulation. Materials and methods: In this experimental study, twenty female Wistar rats were assigned to four groups (n = 5) including control, sham, PCOS, and PCOS+PDMSCs groups. Then, PCOS was induced in the rats through administering letrozole for 21 days. PDMSCs (1 × 106 cells) were injected through the tail vein. Fourteen days after the cell infusion, evaluation was performed on the number of healthy follicles, corpus luteum, and cystic follicles as well as the levels of testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, and insulin resistance. Moreover, the serum levels of cholesterol, triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were measured. Liver function was also determined by the evaluation of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels. Results: The number of corpus luteum and primordial, primary, secondary, and antral follicles was significantly elevated in the PCOS+PDMSCs group compared to the PCOS group. However, the number of cystic follicles significantly decreased in the PCOS+PDMSCs group. The LH and testosterone levels also decreased significantly, while FSH levels increased significantly in the PCOS+PDMSCs group. The levels of fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, and insulin resistance notably decreased in the PCOS+PDMSCs group. Moreover, the lipid profile improved in the PCOS+PDMSCs group along with a significant decrease of cholesterol, LDL, and TG and an increase in HDL. The PCOS+PDMSCs group exhibited marked decreases in the AST and ALT levels as well. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that PDMSCs are a potential treatment option for PCOS because they can effectively restore folliculogenesis and correct hormonal imbalances, lipid profiles and liver dysfunction in a rat model of PCOS. Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is subdivided depending on eye pressure. Patients with normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) have never had high intraocular pressure (IOP) measured while patients with ocular hypertension (OHT) have high eye pressure but no signs of glaucoma. Although IOP is considered to be a risk factor for all glaucoma patients, it is reasonable to assume that other risk factors such as inflammation play a role. We aimed to characterize the proteome and cytokine profile during hypoxia in plasma from patients with NTG (n = 10), OHT (n = 10), and controls (n = 10). Participants were exposed to hypoxia for two hours, followed by 30 min of normoxia. Samples were taken before ("baseline"), during ("hypoxia"), and after hypoxia ("recovery"). Proteomics based on liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC–MS) was performed. Cytokines were measured by Luminex assays. Bioinformatic analyses indicated the involvement of complement and coagulation cascades in NTG and OHT. Regulation of high-density lipoprotein 3 (HDL3) apolipoproteins suggested that changes in cholesterol metabolism are related to OHT. Hypoxia decreased the level of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in OHT patients compared to controls. Circulating levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were decreased in NTG patients compared to controls during hypoxia. After recovery, plasma interleukin-6 (IL-6) was upregulated in patients with NTG and OHT. Current results indicate an enhanced systemic immune response in patients with NTG and OHT, which correlates with pathogenic events in glaucoma. This document discusses novel and promising therapies for diabetic dyslipidemia, which is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in diabetic patients. The dyslipidemia of diabetes is characterized by high triglyceride levels, low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and elevated levels of apolipoprotein B (apoB). Current guidelines recommend statins as the primary therapy for lowering LDL cholesterol, but there are other therapies being explored, such as bempedoic acid, inhibitors of apolipoprotein C-III, angiopoietin-like 3 (ANGPTL3), and lipoprotein(a). Background: Compost-bedded pack barns (CBP) are getting huge attention as an alternative housing system for dairy cows due to their beneficial impact on animal welfare. Effective microorganisms (EM) inoculums are believed to enhance compost quality, improve soil structure and benefit the environment. However, little information is available on the impact of incubation with external EM combinations on the barn environment, compost quality and microbial diversity in CBP. This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of inoculating different combinations of EM [Lactobacillus plantarum (L), Compound Bacillus (B) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S)] on compost quality and microbial communities of CBP products, as well as the relationship with the heifers' barn environment. CBP barns were subjected to the following four treatments: CON with no EM inoculum, LB/LS/LBS were Incubated with weight ratios of 1:2 (L: B), 1:2 (L: S), 1:1:1 (L: B: S), respectively. Results: The EM inoculation (LB, LS, LBS) reduced the concentration of respirable particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) in the CBP, and decreased the serum total protein and total cholesterol levels in heifers. Notably, LBS achieved the highest content of high-density lipoprotein compared to other treatments. Microbiome results revealed that EM inoculation reduced the bacterial abundance (Chao1 index) and fungal diversity (Shannon & Simpson indexes), while increasing the relative abundance of various bacterial genera (Pseudomonas, Paracoccus, Aequorivita) and fungi (Pestalotiopsis), which are associated with cellulose decomposition that ultimately resulted in accelerating organic matter degradation and humification. Furthermore, high nutrient elements (TK&TP) and low mycotoxin content were obtained with EM inoculation, with LBS showing a particularly pronounced effect. Meanwhile, LBS contributed to a decline in the proportion of fungal pathogen categories but also led to an increase in fungal saprotroph categories. Conclusion: Generally, EM inoculation positively impacted compost product quality as organic fertilizer and barn environment by modifying the abundance of cellulolytic bacteria and fungi, while inhibiting the reproduction of pathogenic microbes, especially co-supplementing with L, B and S achieved an amplifying effect. To study the laser acupuncture (LA) effects on postmenopausal obese women's metabolic syndrome. Randomized controlled trial. Benha university hospital. Thirty postmenopausal women were randomized into two equal groups. Group A received a diet regimen and Group B received LA treatment for 30 min three times a week for two months beside the diet regimen. Included weight (W), body mass index (BMI), waist (WC), hip (HC), waist-hip ratio (WHR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), serum level of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting blood insulin (FBI), homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) before and after the end of treatment. The study's findings showed that both groups experienced a highly statistically significant decrease in the post-testing mean value of W, BMI, WC, HC, WHR, SBP, DBP, TC, TG, LDL, FBG, FBI, and HOMA-IR, while both groups experienced a significant increase in the post-treatment mean value of HDL (p 0.0001). The posttreatment SBP, DBP, TC, TG, LDL, FBS, FBI and insulin resistance were significantly lower while HDL was significantly higher in women who received combined LA and diet regimen compared to those who received dietary regimen only. Background: Dysferlin-deficient limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2B (Dysf) mice are notorious for their mild phenotype. Raising plasma total cholesterol (CHOL) via apolipoprotein E (ApoE) knockout (KO) drastically exacerbates muscle wasting in Dysf mice. However, dysferlinopathic patients have abnormally reduced plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. The current study aimed to determine whether HDL-C lowering can exacerbate the mild phenotype of dysferlin-null mice. Methods: Human cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP), a plasma lipid transfer protein not found in mice that reduces HDL-C, and/or its optimal adapter protein human apolipoprotein B (ApoB), were overexpressed in Dysf mice. Mice received a 2% cholesterol diet from 2 months of age and characterized through ambulatory and hanging functional tests, plasma analyses, and muscle histology. Results: CETP/ApoB expression in Dysf mice caused reduced HDL-C (54.5%) and elevated ratio of CHOL/HDL-C (181.3%) compared to control Dysf mice in plasma, but without raising CHOL. Compared to the severe muscle pathology found in high CHOL Dysf/ApoE double knockout mice, Dysf/CETP/ApoB mice did not show significant changes in ambulation, hanging capacity, increases in damaged area, collagen deposition, or decreases in cross-sectional area and healthy myofibre coverage. Conclusions: CETP/ApoB over-expression in Dysf mice decreases HDL-C without increasing CHOL or exacerbating muscle pathology. Background and purpose: Garlic is used as an important medicinal food for treatment of many diseases, however, the association between garlic consumption and dyslipidemia have yielded inconsistent results. So we carried this meta-analysis to explore the blood lipid-lowering effects of garlic. Methods: Databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of science, Embase, Cochrane Library were systematically searched until June 2024. Heterogeneity among studies was examined using Q and I2 statistics. Also subgroup analysis were conducted to explore the potential heterogeneity. Combined weighted mean differences (WMD) with their 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using a random-effects model. The GRADE approach was used to evaluate the overall certainty of the evidence in the meta-analyses. Results: A total of 21 RCTs studies involved association between garlic consumption and blood lipids level of dyslipidemia patients were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled results showed that garlic consumption significantly reduced total cholesterol (TC)(WMD = -0.64mmol/L, 95%CI = -0.75 −-0.54, P < 0.001), triglyceride (TG)(WMD = -0.17mmol/L, 95%CI = -0.26 −-0.09, P < 0.001), low-density lipoprotein(LDL-C)(WMD = -0.44mmol/L, 95%CI = -0.57 −-0.31, P < 0.001) while slightly increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C)(WMD = 0.04mmol/L, 95%CI = -0.00 − 0.08, P < 0.001). And subgroup analyses showed that TC, TG and LDL-C significantly decreased in patients aged > 50 years compared to those aged ≤ 50 years. And garlic oil greatly reduced TC and LDL-C compared with garlic power. Finally, sensitivity analysis and publication bias showed that the results were reliable. Conclusions: Evidence from this meta-analysis suggested that garlic consumption could be effective in reducing the risk of dyslipidemia and preventing CVDs. Introduction– Liver cirrhosis is a condition characterised by widespread disruption of the liver's anatomical structure and function. Lipid metabolism mostly takes place in the hepatocytes. In cases of liver cirrhosis, it is common to observe aberrant lipid profiles and impaired hepatocyte activity. The aim of present study is to determine serum lipid profile in patients with cirrhosis and its correlation with Child Turcotte Pugh score Material and methods- The present hospital based cross sectional study was conducted at department of medicine of a tertiary care centre among 100 patients diagnosed with cirrhosis during the study period of one year. Clinical history was taken and laboratory profile was done. Results were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0. Results– The mean age of patients was 49.7±12.4 years. The average values of lipid profile markers were calculated as follows Total cholesterol (mg/dl) (96.7±36.4), Triglycerides (mg/dl) (87.4±41.8), High density lipoprotein (mg/dl)(54.4±26.6) and Low density lipoprotein (mg/dl) (26.3±12.7). The mean CTP score of all the patients was 9.7±1.7. Out of all the patients 3 were in class A, 45 were in class B and 52 were in class C. Negative correlation was found between CTP and lipid profile (p<0.01). The present study outlines the many risk variables of myocardial infarction (MI) in the patient population. Blood lipid profiles were normolipidemic in the study’s subjects. Myocardial infarction patients and controls were compared concerning their lipid, lipoprotein, and apolipoprotein profiles. Materials & methods: In this study, 84 participants had their blood cholesterol, Apolipoprotein-A, LDL, VLDL, HDL, triacylglycerols, and malondialdehyde studied. Out of the total number of participants, 42 were individuals who had suffered a myocardial infarction (MI). In contrast, the other 42 were controls matched for age and sex. Results: Acute myocardial infarction (MI) patients had significantly elevated levels of total cholesterol and triacylglycerols (TAGs) (p <0.05) despite the presence of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in their blood. A significant difference was seen between the levels of apolipoprotein-A and low-density lipoprotein in the MI group and those in the control group. Researchers found that those who had a rapid heart attack exhibited significantly higher levels of malondialdehyde (p<0.05). Conclusion: For individuals diagnosed with risk factors, lipid profile monitoring, dietary antioxidant consumption, and measurement of inflammatory markers can all help lower the risk of myocardial infarction (MI). Aim: To assess and verify the effect of the gut microbiome on the susceptibility and complications of type 1 diabetes (T1D). Materials and Methods: To achieve this aim, a two‐sample and reverse Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was conducted. In addition, an external validation study was performed using individual microbiome data of patients with T1D from the gutMEGA datasets and the National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases. The circulating metabolites facilitated two‐sample MR analysis, mediation and multivariable MR analysis to evaluate the direct relationship between the gut microbiome and T1D complications. Results: The MR analysis results from the discovery and validation phases confirmed that Veillonellaceae can potentially reduce the susceptibility of T1D. In the gutMEGA dataset, the average relative abundance of Veillonellaceae in patients with T1D was 0.66%, compared with 1.09% in the controls. Furthermore, the external validation, which included 60 patients with T1D and 30 matched healthy controls, found that the median relative abundance of Veillonellaceae was also lower than controls at 1.10% (95% CI 0.50%‐1.80%). Specifically, the Eubacterium coprostanoligenes group, known for its ability to regulate cholesterol, was significantly associated with a lower risk of developing renal, neurological and ophthalmic complications in T1D. Moreover, high cholesterol in small high‐density lipoprotein and cholesteryl esters in high‐density lipoprotein were associated with a reduced risk of T1D renal and ophthalmic complications. The mediation and multivariable MR analysis combining cholesterol indicated that the E. coprostanoligenes group is the most dominant factor influencing T1D complications. Childhood maltreatment influences adult physical health through cascading effects over the life course and it is critical to identify intervening processes. Marital quality has significant implications for adult physical health via cognitive, emotional, and behavioral pathways and may be a viable pathway. Given that cardiometabolic biomarkers are associated with the leading causes of death in the United States, the current study longitudinally investigated marital quality, health locus of control, and eating habits in a serial mediation model linking childhood maltreatment to high density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL). Using a sample of 352 adults from the study of Midlife Development in the United States, we used three waves of data to test our hypotheses. Results of structural equation models indicate that although all the hypothesized direct effects were statistically significant, the serial indirect effects were non-significant. Childhood maltreatment was associated with a lower quality marriage, marital quality was associated with higher levels of health locus of control which, in turn, was associated with healthier eating habits. Finally, healthier eating habits were associated with greater HDL, but not lower LDL. Additionally, marital quality exerted a direct effect on LDL and mediated the relationship between maltreatment and LDL, but not HDL. For researchers, marital quality appears to be a mechanism linking childhood maltreatment to cardiometabolic biomarkers, yet health locus of control and eating habits do not appear to have strong effects. Context Cottonseed oil (CSO) is higher in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and saturated fatty acids (SFAs) than many liquid plant oils. Objectives To conduct a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining effects of CSO on markers of lipid metabolism and evaluate lipid and lipoprotein effects of incorporating CSO into a healthy dietary pattern using regression equations. Data Sources A systematic search was conducted for RCTs comparing CSO with a non-CSO comparator in any population. Data Analyses The Katan regression equation was used to predict lipid/lipoprotein changes when incorporating CSO into a US-style healthy eating pattern at 25 to 100% of the total oil allowance (ie, 27 g/2000 kcal) compared with average American intake (NHANES 2017 to 2020 pre-COVID pandemic). Results In total, 3 eligible publications (n = 2 trials), with 58 participants that provided 44% and 30% of total energy as CSO, were included. Fasting low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C; ≈ –7.7 mg/dL) and triglycerides (≈ –7.5 mg/dL) were lower after 5 days of a CSO-enriched diet vs olive oil (OO). In a 56-day trial, CSO lowered total cholesterol (TC; ≈ –14.8 mg/dL), LDL-C (≈ –14.0 mg/dL), and non–high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (≈ –14.2 mg/dL) vs OO. Postprandially, angiopoietin-like protein-3, -4, and -8 concentrations decreased with CSO and increased with OO intake. Compared with average American intake, a healthy eating pattern with 27 g of CSO was estimated to lower TC (–8.1 mg/dL) and LDL-C (–7.3 mg/dL) levels, with minimal reduction in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (–1.1 mg/dL). Compared with the healthy eating pattern, incorporating 27 g of CSO was predicted to increase TC and LDL-C levels by 2.4 mg/dL. Conclusion Limited high-quality research suggests CSO may improve lipid/lipoprotein levels compared with OO. Emerging scientific studies have supported the hypothesis that exposure to environmental chemicals increases the incidence of diverse human metabolic disorders. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the association between fluoride exposure and metabolic syndrome (MetS) prevalence in people from the Central Region of Mexico. This research included 575 adult individuals. Urinary fluoride concentrations were determined using a potentiometric method. Anthropometric measurements and blood pressure were also acquired. Serum fasting glucose and lipid levels were quantified. For the MetS screening, we used the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP ATP III) criteria. The mean urinary fluoride levels were 3.50 ± 2.50 mg/L. The prevalence of MetS was approximately 27 and 25% according to NCEP ATP III and IDF criteria, respectively. A multivariate logistic regression analysis showed significant associations (p < 0.05) between urinary fluoride concentrations and MetS occurrence using NCEP ATP III criteria (OR = 1.60; 95% CI 1.05–2.10) and IDF criteria (OR = 1.35; 95% CI 0.95–1.45). The disease severity of psoriasis is mainly assessed subjectively via psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) and body surface area (BSA), while an optimal measure of cutaneous response, may overlook systemic inflammation in psoriasis patients. The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MLR), monocyte to high density lipoprotein ratio (MHR), and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) exhibit notable associations with the inflammation severity in multiple diseases. The aim of this retrospective study was to explore the associations between inflammatory parameters and the skin lesions' severity of psoriasis. After analysis, we found that patients with psoriasis had higher NLR, MLR, PLR, MHR, and SII levels compared to the control group. At baseline, the parameters of NLR (r = 0.124, P = 0.003), MLR (r = 0.153, P < 0.001), MHR (r = 0.217, P < 0.001) and SII (r = 0.141, P = 0.001) had a positive correlation with PASI in psoriasis patients. At the same time, we analyzed the patients who received different systemic therapy. We observed a significant decrease in NLR, PLR, MLR, and SII in psoriasis patients after treatment. Notably, TNF-α inhibitors and IL-17A inhibitors subgroups showed a more significant reduction than IL-23/IL-12/23 inhibitors and MTX medication. Additionally, we found the change of NLR (r = 0.194, P < 0.001), PLR (r = 0.104, P = 0.014), MLR (r = 0.191, P < 0.001), MHR (r = 0.106, P = 0.012), and SII (r = 0.228, P < 0.001) had a positive correlation with the change of PASI in psoriasis patients. Background: New evidence links elevated blood aldosterone levels to endothelial dysfunction which causes insulin resistance and kidney damage in diabetics. In this study, we aimed to measure serum aldosterone levels and assess the severity of renal injury in different stages of diabetic nephropathy. Methods: The 52 participants in this case-control study were classified according to albuminuria and ACR, and they all had type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM): Group (A): 13 healthy individuals as control, Group (B): 13 controlled patients with T2DM with normoalbuminuria and normal albumin/create ratio =30mg/gm, Group (C): 13 patients with T2DM with microalbuminuria and albumin/create ratio 30-300mg/g, and Group (D): 13 patients with T2DM with macroalbuminuria and albumin/create ratio =300mg/g. Serum aldosterone and serum renin were assessed. Results: Serum aldosterone and renin differed significantly between the four groups (p<0.001). In the microalbuminuria diabetic group, a statistically significant strong negative correlation was found between s. aldosterone and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (p= 0.025), and a statistically significant strong positive correlation was found between s. aldosterone and Alb/Cr ratio & s. renin (p=.0.037, 0.007 respectively). In the macroalbuminuria diabetic group, a statistically significant strong negative correlation was found between s. aldosterone and all of the Alb/Cr ratios, as well as total leucocytic count (TLC) (p=0.009, 0.029 respectively), and a statistically significant strong positive correlation was found between s. aldosterone, HDL, and K (p=0.042, 0.013, respectively). Post hoc analysis of S. Aldosterone showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the four studied groups (P<0.001), and as regards S. renin there was a statistically significant difference between Group A vs Group D (p= P3,0.015), Group B vs Group D (p=0.001), and Group C vs Group D (p<00.001). Background: Children who have chronic kidney disease (CKD) or end-stage renal disease (ESRD) often present with a range of concurrent medical conditions, one of which is dyslipidemia. This work aimed to detect the frequency of dyslipidemia among children with ESRD at Zagazig university hospitals. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study included (61 children patients) aged from 4 to 17 years old, who had ESRD (CKD grade V) with estimated glomerular filtration rate less than 15 ml/min/1.73m2 by modified Schwartz equation and on regular hemodialysis. A comprehensive history taking, thorough physical examination, and laboratory tests, including regular labs and the lipid profile, were conducted for all patients. Results: High percentage of examined children had high lipid profile (29.5 %) of the populations, The prevalence of abnormally high levels of total serum cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density were found to be 29.5%, 75.4% and 16.4% respectively. Triglycerides, VLDL-C, and HDL levels were found to be higher during maintenance hemodialysis. No significant correlation was found between duration of hemodialysis, urea, and creatinine, with Cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein, and very low-density lipoprotein, except for a significant positive correlation between phosphate (Po4) and high density lipoprotein (HDL) (P =0.022). Conclusion: The prevalence of dyslipidemia was found to be high among HD patients in Zagazig university hospitals. Comparisons of lipid parameters with CVD risk stratifications need further studies to prove the benefits of these scores in CVD prediction among the dialysis population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The interaction between CD47 and signal-regulatory protein-alpha (SIRPα) inhibits phagocytosis, and their clinicopathological characteristics have been evaluated in various diseases. However, the significance of CD47 and SIRPα expression, as well as the combined effect, in Extranodal Natural killer/T-cell Lymphoma (ENKTL) remains uncertain. Methods: In total, 76 newly diagnosed ENKTL patients (mean age 49.9 years, 73.7% male) were included in this study. CD47 and SIRPα expression were examined by immunohistochemistry. Survival analyses were conducted through Kaplan-Meier curves and the Cox regression model. Results: Seventy-one (93.4%) cases were categorized as the CD47 positive group and 59 (77.6%) cases were categorized as the SIRPα positive group. CD47-negative cases had more advanced-stage illness (P = 0.001), while SIRPα-positive cases showed significantly lower levels of high-density lipoprotein (P < 0.001). In univariable analysis, CD47, SIRPα expression, and their combination were significantly associated with prognosis (P < 0.05). In multivariable analysis, only positive SIRPα expression remained significantly associated with superior overall survival (Hazard ratio [HR] 0.446; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.207–0.963; P = 0.004). Furthermore, SIRPα expression could re-stratify the survival of patients in ECOG (< 2), advanced CA stage, PINK (HR), CD38-positive, PD1-positive, and CD30-positive groups. Conclusions: SIRPα status was a potential independent prognostic factor for ENKTL. The prognostic significance of CD47 expression and the interaction between CD47 and SIRPα in ENKTL need further investigation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: Telemedicine has been promoted as an effective way of managing type‐2 diabetes (T2DM) in primary care. However, the effectiveness of telemedicine is unclear. We investigated the clinical and cost‐effectiveness of different telemedicine interventions for people with T2DM, compared to usual care. Methods: We searched Medline, Embase, Cochrane, CINHAL, ProQuest and EconLit for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the effectiveness of telemedicine interventions on clinical outcomes (HbA1c, body mass index [BMI], weight, diastolic blood pressure [DBP], systolic blood pressure [SBP], fasting blood glucose, high‐density lipoprotein [HDL] cholesterol, low‐density lipoprotein [LDL] cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglyceride) in adults with T2DM, published in English from inception until 31 December 2022. Meta‐analyses were conducted using random‐effects models pooling mean differences, heterogeneity was quantified using the I2 statistic. Publication bias was assessed using funnel plots, Egger tests and trim and fill. Subgroup analyses included type of telemedicine intervention, telemedicine mode of delivery and type of healthcare professionals. This study was registered with PROSPERO, CRD 42022375128. Results: Of the 4093 records identified, 21 RCTs, 10,732 participants from seven regions, were included. Reported interventions included telephone (k = 16 studies), internet‐based (k = 2), videoconference (k = 2) and telephone and emails (k = 1). We observed no statistically significant differences between synchronous or asynchronous telemedicine interventions compared to usual care for HbA1c (−0.08% (−0.88 mmol/mol); 95% CI: −0.18, 0.02), BMI (0.51 kg/m2; 95% CI: −0.21, 1.22), SBP (−1.48 mmHg; 95% CI: −3.22, 0.26), DBP (3.23 mmHg; 95% CI: −0.89, 7.34), HDL‐cholesterol (0.01 mmol/L; 95% CI: −0.03, 0.05), LDL‐cholesterol (0.08 mmol/L; 95% CI: −0.22, 0.37), triglycerides (−0.08 mmol/L, 95% CI: −0.31, −0.15), total cholesterol (−0.10 mmol/L; 95% CI: −0.25, 0.04) and weight (−0.50 kg; 95% CI: −1.21, 0.21). Conclusions: Telemedicine was as effective as usual care in improving health outcomes of people with T2DM. They can provide a safe solution in times of rising demands for primary healthcare services, or in extreme events, like a global pandemic. Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration, with oxidative stress playing a key role. Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) is an antioxidant enzyme that may influence ALS progression. This study aimed to establish a predictive model for the influence of PON1 activity on functionality in ALS patients and explore its relationship with nutrition. Methods: In this observational cross-sectional study, 70 ALS patients underwent assessments of PON1 activity, lipid profile, functional capacity, respiratory function, and heart rate variability. A structural equation model was developed to determine the relationships between variables. Nutritional intake was analyzed in 65 patients. Results: The predictive model showed that PON1 activity and LDL levels positively influenced functionality, both directly and indirectly through respiratory capacity. Heart rate variability moderately predicted functionality independently. HDL levels were not significantly associated with functionality. Weak to moderate correlations were found between PON1 activity and intake of certain nutrients, with positive associations for monounsaturated fats and vitamin D, and negative associations for carbohydrates, proteins, and some micronutrients. Conclusions: PON1 activity appears to play an important role in ALS patient functionality, both directly and through effects on respiratory capacity. However, its relationship with nutritional intake was not strongly evident in this sample population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
