Abstract

The article profiles Richard D. Heffner, a college history teacher who launched a television discussion program "The Open Mind" on National Broadcasting Co. Inc., on the establishment of educational television station in New York City. Heffner served for 20 years as chairman of the ratings board of the Motion Picture Association of America, and has been University Professor of Communication and Public Policy at Rutgers since 1964. Moreover, after he launched "The Open Mind," he became program director for the Metropolitan Educational Television Association.
