Abstract

A biography of blind and deaf child prodigy Emma Kubicek, known in her brief time as the "Helen Keller of Illinois." Emma was educated at the Illinois Institution for the Education of the Blind in Jacksonville, Illinois. She lobbied for increased funding for her school and received widespread national media coverage. She died of pneumonia at the age of 11.
