Abstract

The article presents a biography of Doctor Hubertus Strughold, the father of space medicine. He was born in Westfalia, Germany. He completed his degree at the University of Muenster and the University of Wuerzburg. He coined the term space medicine in 1948. Strughold was the first and only professor of space medicine at the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine.
