- Abstract
The rapid technological advancements and the widespread adoption of the internet have diminished the role of the physical library as a main information resource. As the Metaverse is evolving, a revolutionary change is anticipated in how social relationships are perceived, within an educational context. It is therefore necessary for libraries to upgrade the services they provide to keep in line with the technological trends and be a part of this virtual revolution. It is believed that the design and development of a Virtual Reality (VR) library can be the community and knowledge hub the society needs. In this paper, the process of creating a partially digital replica of the Limassol Municipal University Library, a landmark for the city of Limassol, is examined by using photogrammetry and 3D modelling. A 3D platform was developed, where users have the perception that they are experiencing the actual library. To that end, a perceptual study was conducted, to understand the current usage of physical libraries, examine the users’ experience in VR, and identify the requirements and expectations in the development of a virtual library counterpart. Following the suggestions and observations from the perceptual study, five key scenarios were implemented that demonstrate the potential use of a virtual library. This work incorporates the fundamental VR attributes, such as immersiveness, realism, user interactivity and feedback as well as other features, such as animated NPCs, 3D audio, ray-casting and GUIs, that significantly augment the overall VR library user experience, presence as well as navigation autonomy. The main effort of this project was to produce a VR representation of an existing physical library, integrated with its key services, as a proof-of-concept, with emphasis on easy 24/7 access, functionality, and interactivity. The above attributes differentiate this work from existing studies. A detailed user evaluation study was conducted upon completion of the final VR library implementation, which firmly confirmed all its key attributes and future viability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RECOMMENDER systems ,DIGITAL libraries ,ARTIFICIAL intelligence ,LIBRARY cooperation ,CLASSIFICATION - Abstract
The immense volume of online content linked to digital libraries has given emergence to the advancement of screening and recommendation systems. A recommendation system is vitally important in both academic institutions and elibraries to assist professors, instructors, students, and researchers in finding appropriate sources of information. Distributed or collaborative screening is the most common method used in current recommendation systems. However, collaborative approaches cannot promote library repositories, including unrated or unpurchased electronic information. Thus, this paper deals with the automated classification and recommendation of a multiclass corpus found in virtual repositories (cloud databases). In various stages, Neuro-Fuzzy (NF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) techniques are used as the base classifiers for the categorization of the essential subjects (contents). Later, a high-level ensemble learning strategy is utilized to recommend appropriate subjects from the available multiclass corpus. The methods use a CoC (Coherence of Content)-based inference mechanism to extract and filter the critical components before beginning the recommendation process. Experiments demonstrated that a recommended approach based on detailed conceptual descriptions instead of a handful of phrases/words might help academic and research communities to find relevant sources. Observing the results over a period of months shows that the suggested method increases user comfort, proving the system's acceptability to users in this way. In addition, compared to previous models, the accuracy in categorizing the requisite subjects is more than 97.16 per cent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we will compare selected examples of writers' digital libraries, from the Renaissance to contemporary times, to study the different rhetorical strategies that preside over their digital discourse. Second, we will analyze how the rhetoric of digital discourse on digital libraries can influence the "author's posture" (Meizoz 2007), both at the institutional and individual level. We will discuss three different cases: the first is that of virtual, even "mental", "memory" (Ferrer 2001) libraries of authors of the past, reconstructed by specialists from the books these writers read or owned, as in the case of the MONLOE project-dedicated to Michel de Montaigne. The second is that of virtual libraries of "amphibious" authors, working in both media (print and digital), following the example of the forerunner François Bon. The third is that of "collective" librariesplatforms, such as Wattpad and Panodyssey. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background The demand for online education promotion platforms has increased. In addition, the digital library system is one of the many systems that support teaching and learning. However, most digital library systems store books in the form of libraries that were developed or purchased exclusively by the library, without connecting data with different agencies in the same system. Methods A hybrid recommender system model for digital libraries, developed from multiple online publishers, has created a prototype digital library system that connects various important knowledge sources from multiple digital libraries and online publishers to create an index and recommend e-books. The developed system utilizes an API-based linking process to connect various important sources of knowledge from multiple data sources such as e-books on education from educational institutions, e-books from government agencies, and e-books from religious organizations are stored separately. Then, a hybrid recommender system suitable for users was developed using Collaborative Filtering (CF) model together with Content-Based Filtering. This research purposed the hybrid recommender system model, which took into account the factors of book category, reading habits of users, and sources of information. The evaluation of the experiments involved soliciting feedback from system users and comparing the results with conventional recommendation methods. Results A comparison of NDCG scores was conducted for Hybrid Score 50:50, Hybrid Score 20:80, Hybrid Score 80:20, CF-score and CB-score. The experimental result was found that the Hybrid Score 80:20 method had the highest average NDCG score. Conclusions Using a hybrid recommender system model that combines 80% Collaborative Filtering and 20% Content-Based Filtering can improve the recommender method, leading to better referral efficiency and greater overall efficiency compared to traditional approaches.

The six Legal Deposit Libraries of the UK and Ireland (LDLs) have been collecting digital maps under legal deposit regulations since 2016. The LDLs collect a subset of the totality of digital maps published each year and this article explores a rationale for deciding what to collect. The collection is made accessible in reading rooms through a web-map interface that facilitates visual use. Technical and regulatory restrictions preclude the ability to download data or perform analysis. Thus the viewer is suited to the use cases of the primary users, personal or independent researchers. However, legal deposit guidance outlines that the collection should also be representative of the use of digital maps in the UK's wider economy and society, so that future users can gain insights into contemporary publication. Balancing archival value with access is therefore critical to a collecting rationale. This article examines how the value, license and type of digital maps influences decisions and ends by offering a set of criteria for collecting that also includes publisher engagement. In evaluating the differing and complementary roles of libraries as archives and as points of access, the article has implications for understanding curatorship and the public purpose of libraries. COVID-19 pandemic , *ACADEMIC libraries , *INFORMATION resources , *DIGITAL libraries , *DIGITAL learning - Abstract
The COVID-19 epidemic influenced the student population of the PTAR li-brary on the City Campus of Melaka in a number of ways, one of which was a change in the frequency and volume with which students utilised the campus's information resources. During and after the COVID-19 pandemic, the experiences of one of the University Library branches at UiTM were detailed in this article. Because of the widespread disruption to traditional classroom settings caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of online courses backed by electronic libraries has become increasingly popular. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of physical and digital learning materials, as well as customer satisfaction, in a PTAR library prior to and during the COVID-19 epidemic. Applications, printed materials, documents, and films were the least-used media due to the constraints of working or studying from home, insufficient infrastructure, a lack of working space, and data subscrip-tions or wifi libraries. The global epidemic was considered to have both posi-tive and negative repercussions for academic libraries. It was suggested that the pattern, concept, and styles of modern information resources and facilities be expanded, that the library capitalise on its many open access re-sources, open data, open educational materials, open services, and open re-pository, and that the library acquire electronic devices immediately. This study aims to evaluate the pattern and scope of use of information resource facilities and services at PTAR Melaka City Campus, as well as the use of the digital library platform at the UiTM Melaka City Campus library. TRANSFER functions ,ARTISTS' books ,ARMENIANS ,ACHIEVEMENT - Abstract
The book has always been valued as the most important value for the transmission of information. Along with the historical development of the society, it performed the complex function of transferring the achievements of the given period to the future generations, which made it possible to correctly assess the past. This phenomenon is more emphasized when we refer to the history of Armenian book art. Perhaps, for no people in the world, books and printing have had the same role and significance as in the life of the Armenian people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents the evolution of the Digital Library of the Department of Classical Philology and Italian Studies of the University of Bologna (DL FICLIT) as a case study of the transition from a digital repository to a tool for research, teaching, and dissemination in the digital ecosystem. Designed to publish the department’s digital collections, initial requirements have progressively been expanded and the ability to integrate content with critical contributions emerged. Additionally, there has been a growing request to offer targeted reading perspectives for different user profiles. This prompted a reconsideration of the DL’s role beyond implementation, management, and maintenance methodologies, identifying its renewed role in the department’s activities in the coming years. This resulted in changes to the DL’s editorial process, new requirements for the software platform, and a multi-year development program. A program involving several players: lecturers and researchers, technicians and librarians, students, and the public. By reframing the path taken so far, and displaying the program for the future, the article aims to contribute to the debate on the role that the DLs of Italian university departments will be able to assume in the emerging Cultural Heritage ecosystem that the Ministry of Culture foresees with the National Digitisation Plan.

The purpose of this study is to review and reflect upon the qualitative and quantitative methods applied and lessons learned in the process of completing the project "Creating accessibility and usability of digital library (DL) guidelines to support blind and visually impaired (BVI) users." This study focuses on the following issues: 1) The recruitment of BVI users, scholars/experts, and DL developers and associated challenges and solutions; 2) The use of data collection methods for diverse DL stakeholders and associated challenges and solutions; 3) The application of data analysis techniques and associated challenges and solutions. It is a challenge to recruit large numbers of BVI participants, and it is an effective approach to establish connections with trusted organizations and institutions - particularly BVI-related organizations - to promote the studies. Multiple data collection methods (questionnaires, think-aloud protocols, transaction logs, diaries, interviews, and focus groups) were used throughout the research project. As BVI users utilize screen readers to understand DL interfaces and simultaneously express their actions and thoughts, the challenge associated with think-aloud protocols can be resolved by offering orientation training and clear instructions. Both quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods were used throughout the project. Descriptive analysis is the most commonly employed quantitative method since statistical analysis cannot be performed due to small sample size. For qualitative analysis, it is critical for sighted researchers to understand BVI users by collaborating with blind researchers and carefully reviewing the video and transcript data to enhance the open coding process. Future research on the methodology applied in BVI-related studies is also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Google Scholar has become an important search platform for students in higher education, and, as such, can be regarded as a competitor to university libraries. Previous research has explored students' intention to use Google Scholar (GS) and University Digital Libraries (UDLs), but there is a lack of comparative studies that explore students' preferences between these two platforms. Therefore, this study seeks to explore the search behaviour of a select group of users, international postgraduate students and more specifically compares the factors that influence their use of Google Scholar and University Digital Libraries (UDLs). A questionnaire-based survey, based on the factors in the UTAUT model (unified theory of acceptance and use of technology) was conducted to collect data on acceptance and use of technology of GS and UDL's respectively. Data was collected from 400 international postgraduate students studying in the United Kingdom. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to establish the contextual influencing factors, whilst structural equation modelling examined the predicted model. The results suggest some differences between the influence of various factors between the UDL dataset and the GS datasets. They suggest that social influence (SI) did not affect behavioural intention (BI) for either data set, but that for the UDL dataset, effort expectancy did not affect BI, whereas for the GS dataset facilitating conditions did not influence BI. The approach taken in this study further facilitates research into the use of search tools to progress beyond ease of use as a main driver and to explore the relationship between internal and external influences of use. Recommendations for further research are suggested and the value of the insights gained for UDLs and their provision and support for all students is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIGITIZATION , *PROJECT management , *LIBRARIES - Abstract
The library, as an institution providing access to knowledge, information, and resources of public significance, plays an indispensable role in satisfying the educational and cultural needs of society. To meet the users' needs, the library must continuously adapt to changes in time, technology, and society. For this reason, the library must have a creative, flexible, and agile identity. An agile approach involves a quick and efficient response to user demands, and it also implies teamwork, constant communication, and the development of new library work concepts, which are integral to the creative economy. Although the methodology of agile management has improved teamwork, many face fear of failure and the drastic changes that this approach entails. Within this paper, a case study of the Subotica City Library (hereinafter referred to as SCL) is presented, which has implemented agile management in its operations to enhance its library practices. SCL applies a multifunctional and team strategy that enables the development of collaborative library work and the digitization of local cultural heritage. This strategy involves the creation of a program that encourages creative thinking, improvement, collaborative work in the library, and the digitization of local collections, using agile management that emphasizes the value of collaboration and research within libraries. This paper aims to explore the importance, advantages, and position of agile management in libraries, using the example of SCL. In addition to the theoretical aspect, this paper also focuses on practical library work and the digitization of SCL's cultural heritage using agile management methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to provide adaptive access to learning resources in the digital library. Design/methodology/approach: A novel method using ontology-based multi-attribute collaborative filtering is proposed. Digital libraries are those which are fully automated and all resources are in digital form and access to the information available is provided to a remote user as well as a conventional user electronically. To satisfy users' information needs, a humongous amount of newly created information is published electronically in digital libraries. While search applications are improving, it is still difficult for the majority of users to find relevant information. For better service, the framework should also be able to adapt queries to search domains and target learners. Findings: This paper improves the accuracy and efficiency of predicting and recommending personalized learning resources in digital libraries. To facilitate a personalized digital learning environment, the authors propose a novel method using ontology-supported collaborative filtering (CF) recommendation system. The objective is to provide adaptive access to learning resources in the digital library. The proposed model is based on user-based CF which suggests learning resources for students based on their course registration, preferences for topics and digital libraries. Using ontological framework knowledge for semantic similarity and considering multiple attributes apart from learners' preferences for the learning resources improve the accuracy of the proposed model. Research limitations/implications: The results of this work majorly rely on the developed ontology. More experiments are to be conducted with other domain ontologies. Practical implications: The proposed approach is integrated into Nucleus, a Learning Management System (https://nucleus.amcspsgtech.in). The results are of interest to learners, academicians, researchers and developers of digital libraries. This work also provides insights into the ontology for e-learning to improve personalized learning environments. Originality/value: This paper computes learner similarity and learning resources similarity based on ontological knowledge, feedback and ratings on the learning resources. The predictions for the target learner are calculated and top N learning resources are generated by the recommendation engine using CF. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Purpose: The scientific community shares a heritage of knowledge generated by several different fields of research. Identifying how scientific interest evolves is relevant for recording and understanding research trends and society's demands. Design/methodology/approach: This article presents SciBR-M, a novel method to identify scientific interest evolution from bibliographic material based on Formal Concept Analysis. The SciBR-M aims to describe the thematic evolution surrounding a field of research. The method begins by hierarchically organising sub-domains within the field of study to identify the themes that are more relevant. After this organisation, we apply a temporal analysis that extracts implication rules with minimal premises and a single conclusion, which are helpful to observe the evolution of scientific interest in a specific field of study. To analyse the results, we consider support, confidence, and lift metrics to evaluate the extracted implications. Findings: The authors applied the SciBR-M method for the Educational Data Mining (EDM) field considering 23 years since the first publications. In the digital libraries context, SciBR-M allows the integration of the academy, education, and cultural memory, in relation to a study domain. Social implications: Cultural changes lead to the production of new knowledge and to the evolution of scientific interest. This knowledge is part of the scientific heritage of society and should be transmitted in a structured and organised form to future generations of scientists and the general public. Originality/value: The method, based on Formal Concept Analysis, identifies the evolution of scientific interest to a field of study. SciBR-M hierarchically organises bibliographic material to different time periods and explores this hierarchy from proper implication rules. These rules permit identifying recurring themes, i.e. themes subset that received more attention from the scientific community during a specific period. Analysing these rules, it is possible to identify the temporal evolution of scientific interest in the field of study. This evolution is observed by the emergence, increase or decrease of interest in topics in the domain. The SciBR-M method can be used to register and analyse the scientific, cultural heritage of a field of study. In addition, the authors can use the method to stimulate the process of creating knowledge and innovation and encouraging the emergence of new research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the era of globalization, people are increasingly demanding to always want to get fast, cheap, comfortable, and precise services. As a service that runs library affairs, this phenomenon is a challenge for libraries to always make transformations in a better direction to maintain regional literacy levels. Therefore, this research was conducted to assess the factors of user acceptance of the application of the i-Bontang digital library system to users of Perpustakaan Daerah Kota Bontang. Based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework, researchers analyzed the locus of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of various latent variables including behavior intention to use, actual system to use, relevance, subjective norms, screen design, mobility, trust in content, library assistance, computer literacy, trust in content, and level of infrastructure. Not only that, measurements were also carried out using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through the overall model fit test, validity test, and reliability test with a t-value > 1.96. The results of this study indicate that perceived ease of use is influenced by several variables such as screen design, mobility, librarian assistance, and computer literacy, while perceived usefulness is influenced by variables perceived ease of use, relevance, subjective norms, trust in content, and level of infrastructure. From this research it is proven that the actual system to use variable shows the strongest influence on the behavioral intention to use variable. In the end, the TAM model has helped assess the components in digital library acceptance with the hope that management in implementing systems such as i-Bontang can develop further. Folk songs, customs, traditions, national costumes are part of our history. They are priceless treasures that define us as nation. It is our duty to keep them sacred and pass them down from generation to generation. The work presents the results of the research of the techniques of ornamentation of handmade products, textiles, fabrics, leather and accessories from the area of Bessarabia. Special attention was paid to lace and the correlation of the crochet motifs with embroidery elements. Lace is a decorative element of the interior of the house, but also a garnishing element of the popular shirt. It is considered to be one of the oldest decoration techniques with considerable revival and appreciation in the 15th century when it is used to decorate royal and noble clothing. In the folk costume, lace is made with a crochet hook and a needle with cotton or silk thread. If the embroidery ornaments in the folk costume are in colors, then the lace is made in white. The study was carried out on the basis of the popular costume, the towels from the interwar period of the 20th century. The results of the use of information technologies in the preservation of these ornaments are also presented. The purpose of this study is to present the stages used in the identification and revitalization of the ornamentation techniques characteristic of our country, to identify the methodology of preserving the traditional ornaments used in the Republic of Moldova and to propose directions for further use.

Purpose: Risk assessment according to ISO 31000 standard is a systematic and logical process that includes identification, analysis and measurement. The risk identification process involves determining the type and source of potential risks. Risk analysis involves determining the estimated level of risks in terms of indices such as the probability and potential consequences of the risk. The measurement involves comparing the estimated levels of risks with respect to the analysis criteria and eventually the risk ranking. The present study aims to assess (identify, analyze and measure) the risks of professional expertise of human resources at digital libraries according to ISO 31000 standard. Methods: The present research is an applied nature and to implement it, survey and analytic methods have been applied with Shannon Entropy to weight risks and fuzzy TOPSIS to evaluate them. Primarily the most important risks were identified using the relevant resources and the results of previous researches, a process which led to the formulation of a questionnaire consisting of 38 items. First the demographic characteristics were described and the central statistical indices (mean and median) as well as the dispersion index (standard deviation) were examined. Next, using the weighted average index to the criteria defined by Shannon's entropy method and their application in TOPSIS software, positive and negative ideal options were determined. In the risk assessment stage, risks were prioritized by comparing the distance of each one from the positive and negative ideal options. The content validity and reliability equals 0.955 according to Cronbach's alpha test.Findings: 18 professional expertise risks were identified. Risk of having the necessary knowledge about semantic web languages and tools with the minimum distance from the positive ideal point by the value (0.0103) and the maximum distance from the negative ideal point by the value (0.104), and the maximum coefficient close to (0.9103) ranked first. It means that this risk has the closest distance to the ideal positive point and is the most important.Risk of employees' ability to provide digital reference services ranked 18th with the minimum distance from the negative ideal (0.0114) and the maximum distance from the positive ideal (0/1043), and the minimum proximity coefficient (0.0982). That is, it has the maximum distance from the positive ideal option and is the least important. Conclusions: Among the 18 risks of professional expertise of human resources at digital libraries identified, the risk of "having the necessary knowledge about semantic web languages and tools" is the first priority. This reveals that the human resources of academic digital libraries are not in a good position in terms of up-to-date knowledge and modern information technologies and the semantic web that underlies ontologies and linked data, etc.

Purpose: The purpose of the present study is to briefly review the current status of the required spaces for the public libraries in Iran and identify and redefine the architectural needs of these spaces to achieve a new pattern for contemporary libraries. Method: The study approach is a qualitative study based on the grounded theory method. The data were collected by applying library and field methods, using an analytical review, interviews with users, librarians of four selected libraries, researchers, architecture and their users. By analyzing the interview and data, codes were identified and named. In the axial coding stage, the primary categories and phenomena, including “demographic composition of the audiences”, “form of resources, facilities, and facilities”, “quality of the collection and resources”, “conditions of the library to utilize the services”, “quality of services and facilities, and programs to achieve the establishment of social and spatial justice”, “level of social interactions by knowing the cultural context of the target society”, “relationship with sustainable development”, and “library space including four components of necessary standards, functional planning, customization and configuration, and physical planning” were identified. In the selective coding, given the study objectives, three categories of “standardization”, “socio-cultural dimension” and “physical-environmental model” were selected. Findings: Public libraries have changed rapidly due to technological developments and the communication revolution, and have overshadowed the service and mission, planning and functional design, physical, and even the perceptual and aesthetic aspects of libraries. Convincing and diverse perspectives have been presented on public libraries and their future, their goals, services, and space in the 21st century. They range from doubting their functional existence owing to the nature of new technologies and communications, to their becoming significant due to the nature of preserving the documents of human civilization and the interaction make possibe in society (unlike the new communication technologies that insist on isolation). The diversity of these views emphasizes that it is not possible to present a single form for design, but there is a possibility of some kind of design interaction. The analysis of the libraries under study showed that the architecture of the libraries makes certain functional/behavioral models possible. One of them is the “collection-oriented” model, which aims at emphasizing the traditional role of the library as a place for providing resources. The other is an “interaction-oriented” model, which stresses the socio-cultural role of the public library as a venue for interaction that emphasizes, on the one hand, the preservation, publication and development of knowledge and information, and on the other hand, the connection with society and the improvement of the level of cultural and social interactions. Originality/value: The findings of this study redefine the role of public libraries relying on the relevant components of the library architecture to create and develop a suitable platform for the social capital from this space. By changing the library strategies from the complex-oriented pattern to the interaction-oriented model, and redefinition of the spaces, in addition to preserving, publishing, and presenting various sources of knowledge, contemporary libraries should be the custodians and publishers of collective memory and participate in the relations between people and civil institutions. A good architectural design of library spaces should reflect their intentions and mission in our times. More importantly, the designed space should enable achievement of development goals.

The article analyzes the peculiarities of the of Ukrainian digital libraries formation and their role in ensuring the humanitarian security of society. The relevance and novelty of the study lies in the clarification of the need for digitization of library funds and the creation of a national system of digital libraries as a significant coun-termeasure in the worldview (conscientious) wars of today. It has been established that the digital epoch forms a new type of person - a "digital person", which sets to the library the task of developing new strategies for library service, based on knowledge management and increasing the level of digital competences of both library workers and library users for the effective accumulation of personal and so-cial digital capital. The essential features of digital libraries, their advantages com-pared to traditional libraries are analyzed; the peculiarities of the formation of digital libraries are determined, taking into account the world and Ukrainian experience. It is noted that in the Ukrainian library space, the leading place in the digitization of na-tional cultural heritage is occupied by the V. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, on the basis of which the national electronic library "Ukrainika" was created, which aims to collect in digital format works about the Ukrainian people, the territory of Ukraine and about all peoples who lived or live in this territory. This will provide users of the electronic library with knowledge about the history of Ukraine, its traditions and culture, the Ukrainian nation and statehood, and its place in the world civiliza-tional development. It was established that the issue of digitization of library re-sources requires additional attention to the problem of their protection, in order to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of their information resources. The conclusions emphasize that the digitization of the national book heritage for the preservation of national memory and identity is a promising strategy for countering conscientious wars.
