13. Anisotropic moiré optical transitions in twisted monolayer/bilayer phosphorene heterostructures.

Abstract

Moiré superlattices of van der Waals heterostructures provide a powerful way to engineer electronic structures of two-dimensional materials. Many novel quantum phenomena have emerged in graphene and transition metal dichalcogenide moiré systems. Twisted phosphorene offers another attractive system to explore moiré physics because phosphorene features an anisotropic rectangular lattice, different from isotropic hexagonal lattices previously reported. Here we report emerging anisotropic moiré optical transitions in twisted monolayer/bilayer phosphorenes. The optical resonances in phosphorene moiré superlattice depend sensitively on twist angle and are completely different from those in the constitute monolayer and bilayer phosphorene even for a twist angle as large as 19°. Our calculations reveal that the Γ-point direct bandgap and the rectangular lattice of phosphorene give rise to the remarkably strong moiré physics in large-twist-angle phosphorene heterostructures. This work highlights fresh opportunities to explore moiré physics in phosphorene and other van der Waals heterostructures with different lattice configurations.

21. Iodine-assisted ultrafast growth of high-quality monolayer MoS2 with sulfur-terminated edges

Abstract

Two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors have attracted great attention to extend Moore’s law, which motivates the quest for fast growth of high-quality materials. However, taking MoS2 as an example, current methods yield 2D MoS2 with a low growth rate and poor quality with vacancy concentrations three to five orders of magnitude higher than silicon and other commercial semiconductors. Here, we develop a strategy of using an intermediate product of iodine as a transport agent to carry metal precursors efficiently for ultrafast growth of high-quality MoS2. The grown MoS2 has the lowest density of sulfur vacancies (~1.41×1012 cm−2) reported so far and excellent electrical properties with high on/off current ratios of 108 and carrier mobility of 175 cm2 V−1 s−1. Theoretical calculations show that by incorporating iodine, the nucleation barrier of MoS2 growth with sulfur-terminated edges reduces dramatically. The sufficient supply of precursor and low nucleation energy together boost the ultrafast growth of sub-millimeter MoS2 domains within seconds. This work provides an effective method for the ultrafast growth of 2D semiconductors with high quality, which will promote their applications.

41. Research progress on animal models of oral mucositis caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy

Abstract

Inflammation of the oral mucosa induced by radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy may cause pain, difficulty speaking and swallowing, an increased risk of local and systemic infections, and even interrupt cancer treatment, which can seriously affect a patient′s quality of life. The pathogenesis of oral mucositis is complicated. There is still a lack of prevention and treatment modalities for oral mucositis in the clinic. Animal models play a vital role in exploring the pathogenesis of oral mucositis and developing better prevention and treatment methods. This article reviews the current research progress on the establishment and assessment of animal models of oral mucositis. The literature review results showed that animal models of oral mucositis have been established, such as mouse, rat, and gold hamster models. In the replication of animal models, radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis is generally induced by local single-dose or fractionated irradiation using X-ray equipment, either alone or in combination with the chemotherapy drugs 5-fluorouracil or cisplatin; cesium can also be used used as a radioactive source for local irradiation. Oral mucositis induced by the chemotherapy drug 5-fluorouracil alone is generally mild, so 5-fluorouracil was combined with mechanical trauma or acetic acid. The main methods for assessing oral mucositis are gross observation as well as histopathological observation.
