Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) are undergoing the transformation of spatialization and quantification. Geo-computation, with geoinformatics (including RS: Remote Sensing; GIS: Geographical Information System; GNSS: Global Navigation Satellite System), provides effective computational and spatialization methods and tools for HSS. Spatial Humanities and Geo-computation for Social Sciences (SH&GSS) is a field coupling geo-computation, and geoinformatics, with HSS. This special issue accepted a set of contributions highlighting recent advances in methodologies and applications of SH&GSS, which are related to sentiment spatial analysis from social media data, emotional change spatial analysis from news data, spatial analysis of social media related to COVID-19, crime spatiotemporal analysis, “double evaluation” for Land Use/Land Cover (LUCC), Specially Protected Natural Areas (SPNA) analysis, editing behavior analysis of Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI), electricity consumption anomaly detection, First and Last Mile Problem (FLMP) of public transport, and spatial interaction network analysis for crude oil trade network. Based on these related researches, we aim to present an overview of SH&GSS, and propose some future research directions for SH&HSS.

In recent years, the rapid development of brain‐inspired neuromorphic systems has created an imperative demand for artificial photonic synapses that operate with low power consumption. In this study, a self‐driven memristor synapse based on gallium oxide (Ga2O3) nanowires is proposed and demonstrated successfully. This memristor synapse is capable of emulating a range of functionalities of biological synapses when exposed to 255 nm light stimulation. These functionalities encompass peak time‐dependent plasticity, pulse facilitation, and memory learning capabilities. It exhibits an ultrahigh paired‐pulse facilitation index of 158, indicating exceptional learning performance. The transition from short‐term memory to long‐term memory can be attributed to the remarkable relearning capabilities. Furthermore, the potential applications of the memristor synapse is showcased through the successful manipulation of a humanoid intelligent robot. Upon establishing artificial intelligence (AI) systems, the control commands originating from the synaptic device can drive the humanoid robot to perform various actions. Based on the memristor synapses, the autonomous feedback system of the humanoid robot facilitates a good collaboration between robotic actions and bio‐inspired light perception. Therefore, this research opens up an effective way to advance the development of neuromorphic computing technologies, AI systems, and intelligent robots that demand ultra‐low energy consumption. Because of wide range of applications, the flexible artificial synapse is an indispensable part for next-generation neural morphology computing. In this work, we demonstrate a flexible synaptic device based on a lift-off (In,Ga)N thin film successfully. The synaptic device can mimic the learning, forgetting, and relearning functions of biological synapses at both flat and bent states. Furthermore, the synaptic device can simulate the transition from short-term memory to long-term memory successfully under different bending conditions. With the high flexibility, the excitatory post-synaptic current of the bent device only shows a slight decrease, leading to the high stability. Based on the experimental conductance for long-term potentiation and depression, the simulated three-layer neural network can achieve a high recognition rate up to 90.2%, indicating that the system comprising of flexible synaptic devices could have a strong learning-memory capability. The fast development of brain-inspired neuromorphic computing systems has stimulated urgent requirements for artificial synapses with low-power consumption. In this work, a photonic synaptic device based on (Al,Ga)N nanowire/graphene heterojunction has been proposed and demonstrated successfully. In the artificial synaptic device, the incident light, the nanowire/graphene heterojunction, and the light-generated carriers play the roles of action potential, pre-synaptic/post-synaptic membrane, and neurotransmitter in a biological synapse, respectively. As a key synaptic function, the paired pulse facilitation index of the photonic synapse can reach 202%, which can be modulated by the interval time between two adjacent light pulses. It is found that the graphene defects, the surface band bending, and the Al vacancies on the surface of (Al,Ga)N nanowires can be the key reasons contributing to the synaptic characteristics of artificial photonic devices. Hence, the dynamic "learning–forgetting" performance of the artificial synaptic device can resemble the "learning–forgetting" behavior of the human brain. Furthermore, the hand-written digits are set up to mimic a typical characteristic of human perceptual learning. After only three training epochs, the simulated network can achieve a high recognition rate of over 90% based on the experimental conductance for long-term potentiation and long-term depression. In supervised learning processes, such few training times are beneficial to reduce energy consumption significantly. Therefore, in the area of neuromorphic computing technology and artificial intelligence systems requiring low-power consumption, this work paves a potential way to develop the optoelectronic synapse based on semiconductor nanowires. Flexible ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors (PDs) can meet the growing demands and wide applications of next‐generation portable and lightweight optoelectronic devices. Herein, a flexible UV PD based on (Al,Ga)N nanowires (NWs) is proposed and successfully fabricated by numerical and experimental approaches, which have high UV/visible reject ratio (1.5 × 104) and detectivity (8 × 1010 Jones). To accelerate the carrier transport and enhance the response, the top–down–top current pathway is demonstrated by introducing interdigitated electrodes and graphene. The UV/visible reject ratio of the flexible PD can be enhanced over 40 times by removing epitaxial silicon substrate to eliminate the corresponding visible response, leading to an excellent detection selectivity. By numerical simulations, the electric field intensities of the NWs are comparative in the unbending and bending states. After −120° bending, the PD performance remains quite stable. Under different bending states, the maximum variation of different response time can be kept within 0.15 s. According to the experimental data, the barrier height is essentially unchanged under different bending states, which should be a key factor contributing to the outstanding stability of the PD. Background. Long-term application of antiresorptive and/or antiangiogenic agents may cause oral disorders, including medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), which remains an incurable disease. Surgical treatment can help alleviate infection of the jaw and block the progress of the disease, but postoperative recurrence is often caused by incomplete resection of necrotic bone during surgery. The traditional method for determining the boundary of necrotic bone resection is primarily based on the color, geology, and microcirculation-based bleeding state according to the bone tissue, which is easily affected by the surgeon's clinical experience and can cause insufficient resection of osteonecrosis bone. Recent studies have proposed using fluorescence technology-assisted necrotic bone resection. Objective. Systematic literature review was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness of fluorescence-guided MRONJ surgery. Design. PubMed/MedLine, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched from inception to February 7, 2022. Randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies were evaluated according to the Cochrane risk of bias tool ROB 2, and non-RCT (N-RCT) studies were evaluated according to the ROBINS-I tool. Results. A total of 6 articles were included in the systematic review, including 4 N-RCT studies (1 retrospective study and 3 prospective studies) and 2 RCT studies, with 240 patients and 280 MRONJ lesions. The vast majority of studies were with moderate risk of bias, and the quality of the evidence was moderate. Conclusion. Evidence of moderate strength suggests that fluorescence-assisted techniques effectively determine the bone resection boundaries in MRONJ surgery. However, whether the prognosis of patients treated with fluorescence-guided surgery is significantly better than that of traditional surgery must be proved by randomized controlled studies with larger sample sizes and higher quality. A rotating magnet-based mechanical antenna (RMBMA) is a new promising paradigm which can significantly reduce both the size and the power consumption of the super-low frequency electromagnetic transmitter. To further reveal the effects of the rotational motion on transmission, this paper investigates the performance analysis of MSK (Minimum Shift Keying)-based RMBMA for the first time. Initially, based on the framework of MSK-based RMBMA, both the information loading of RMBMA and the control strategies of the motor are proposed, such that the impacts of the step response induced by the motor on the information loading are characterized. Then, the transmission capacity of the MSK-based RMBMA is derived in the closed form. The results indicate that increasing output torque or decreasing inertia load can enhance the transmission capacity. Finally, numerical simulations using a realistic system model demonstrate the validity of the proposed performance analysis. The simulation results show that when the inertia is less than 0.0128 kg∙m2 and the symbol rate is less than 4 bit/s, the bit error rate is less than 10%, thereby improving the transmission capacity. Flexible self‐powered ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors (PDs) with an invisible functionality are essential but challenging to be fabricated for the applications of next‐generation optoelectronic devices. In this work, a flexible photoelectrochemical (PEC) (Al,Ga)N PD with three excellent characteristics, which are the ultrahigh UV/visible reject ratio, ultrahigh detectivity, and transmissivity, is proposed and demonstrated successfully. By numerical simulations, it is also found that the cross‐sectional absorption area should be a nonignorable factor affecting the photogenerated current under bending states. After continuous long‐time working or preserving, the PD performance can keep quite stable. Thanks to the pretty thin bending section of GaN connecting layer, the piezoelectric charges generated by stress are proposed to have only a limited effect in the energy band and photocurrent density. Therefore, when bending or twisting the PD at a high degree for many times, both the stable on‐off switching characteristics and photocurrent densities can still be achieved. With the demonstrated ultrahigh detectivity and stability of flexibility, this PD would enable a broad range of optoelectronic applications, including omnidirectional UV detection and wearable intelligent sensors. Due to the wide application of UV-A (320 nm–400 nm) and UV-C (200 nm–280 nm) photodetectors, dual-wavelength (UV-A/UV-C) photodetectors are promising for future markets. A dual-wavelength UV photodetector based on vertical (Al,Ga)N nanowires and graphene has been demonstrated successfully, in which graphene is used as a transparent electrode. Both UV-A and UV-C responses can be clearly detected by the device, and the rejection ratio (R254 nm/R450 nm) exceeds 35 times at an applied bias of –2 V. The short response time of the device is less than 20 ms. Furthermore, the underlying mechanism of double ultraviolet responses has also been analyzed systematically. The dual-wavelength detections could mainly result from the appropriate ratio of the thicknesses and the enough energy band difference of (Al,Ga)N and GaN sections. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Apart from the passive fault-tolerant control strategies, any active fault-tolerant strategy requires a timely fault diagnosis signal to trigger the control reconfiguration under asymmetric condition. This article proposes a fault diagnosis method where the inherent relationship between fundamental and third harmonic stationary reference currents is established by declaring two new groups of current-based variables. Then two distinct fault characteristics of current performance in the transient conversion from healthy to faulty operation are derived. Based on the fault characteristics, a fast, robust and easy-implemented diagnosis algorithm is proposed based on currents in stationary reference frame to address the multiple open-switch fault diagnosis in five-phase permanent magnet machines. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, a series of experiments have been conducted and the results indicate the strong robustness even under load variation and the valid diagnosis to each type of faults are performed. As the key device in a UV warning system, a solid‐state UV photodetector has attracted great attention. Herein, a new UV photodetector structure based on vertical (Al, Ga)N nanowires with graphene electrode and Si substrate is designed and demonstrated. By graphene/vertical (Al, Ga)N nanowire array heterojunction, the rectifying characteristics of I–V curve are formed, and the dark current is 54 nA at −2 V bias. The fabricated device exhibits a responsivity of 0.176 mA W−1 at the bias of −2 V, as well as a stable switching characteristic. It is proposed that the photogenerated electrons and holes can reach positive and negative electrodes by diffusion or tunneling effect, even with thick AlN sections. The machine with consequent pole (CP) rotor can improve the utilisation ratio of permanent magnet (PM). However, all the N poles or S poles are replaced by salient rotor iron, leading to the asymmetric air‐gap flux density. It potentially results in even‐order back electromotive force (back‐EMF) harmonics and unbalanced magnetic force. This study aims to investigate the influence of various angle displacements (i.e. 0°, 15°, 30° and 60°) on the electromagnetic performance of the dual three‐phase PM machine with CP rotor. The electromagnetic characteristics, including air‐gap flux density, back‐EMF, torque performance, short circuit current, braking torque and PM demagnetisation under both healthy and fault conditions are compared comprehensively. Finally, the 24‐slot/22‐pole prototype machine is manufactured. The back‐EMF waveforms and static torque are measured and compared to the finite‐element predicted results to validate the theoretical analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Several studies have shown the tumorigenesis role of transcriptional enhancer associate domain (TEAD) proteins; here, we initially explored expression, function and signalling mechanisms of TEAD4 in lung adenocarcinoma (LAD). Both the mRNA and protein levels of TEAD4 were increased in LAD tissues than those in adjacent nontumourous tissues. Besides, database search indicated a poorer clinical outcome in LAD patients with higher TEAD4 expression, revealing its potential tumour‐promoting role. Therefore, we conducted cellular experiments to further investigate its effect on tumour phenotypes. Accordingly, TEAD4 showed little impact on LAD cell cycle, proliferation, or apoptosis. However, silencing TEAD4 remarkably attenuated cell migration and invasion capacities. Consistently, several important epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers such as E‐cadherin and Slug were consequently altered by silencing TEAD4. Furthermore, we identified a novel TEAD4‐targeted microRNA, namely miR6839‐3p, and confirmed its function in suppressing TEAD4 expression. Finally, the impact of overexpressing miR6839‐3p mimics on LAD progression was validated, which showed a similar pattern with TEAD4 knockdown cells. Taken together, our data not only revealed the significant role of TEAD4 in promoting LAD progression and predicting clinical outcome but also distinguished miR6839‐3p mimics as a promising therapeutic direction. Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) is a wireless communication technology using visible light to transmit data in an underwater environment, which has wide applications. Based on lift-off (In,Ga)N nanowires, this work has proposed and successfully demonstrated a self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) photodetector (PD) with excellent transmissivity. The transparent functionality of the PD is critical for 360° omnidirectional underwater detection, which was realized by detaching the (In,Ga)N nanowires from the opaque epitaxial substrates to the indium tin oxide (ITO)/glass. It was also found that the insulating SiO2 layer can enhance the photocurrent by about 12 times. The core–shell structure of the nanowires is beneficial for generating carriers and contributing to the photocurrent. Furthermore, a communication system with ASCII code is set to demonstrate the PD detection in underwater communication. Due to significant response contradictions, unidirectional carrier transmission of typical semiconductor p‐n junctions limits integrated sensors and artificial synapses in a monolithic device. In this work, a bipolar p‐n junction designed by employing the hydrogel/p‐GaN local contact interface with p‐GaN/(In,Ga)N heterojunction, demonstrating the bidirectional photocurrent and sensor/artificial synapse dual‐mode device successfully. After modifying Au nanoparticles, the negative (positive) photocurrent is increased by 900% (300%) under 365 nm (520 nm) light to achieve a more balanced bipolar carrier dynamic. Such a regulation of photocurrent is found to be attributed to the promotion of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the hydrogel/Au/p‐GaN interface. Thus, the device achieves the ultrahigh paired‐pulse facilitation (PPF) index of 243% under self‐powered condition. Moreover, the implementation of plasticity from short‐term to long‐term demonstrates its adaptability in neural morphology visual recognition. Beyond independent working mode, the function of five classic logic gates is achieved under three‐terminal operation. Finally, an encrypted wireless communication system using dual‐channel light signals demonstrates the extensive application potential of the monolithic device. (1) To find some predictive markers for identifying those who will develop into psychosis. (2) Compared with normal controls, CHR performed poorer in all tests of cognitive function. (3) These who converted to psychosis showed worse performance in almost all cognitive tests, except the trail making test A(TMT-A) and continuous performance test-identical pairs (CPT-IP) than the CHR who do not convert. (4) The degree of impairment in visual learning, working memory may be as predictive markers for individuals at CHR who developed psychosis later. The purpose of our study was to explore the value of measuring cognitive functions for predicting the conversion to psychosis in Chinese college students with a clinical high risk (CHR). A total of 115 CHR students and 99 healthy controls were enrolled. All included participants were recruited from colleges in Wuhan, China. The MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery was used to evaluate cognitive function. CHR individuals were followed for 2 years, and the cognitive function of CHR individuals who later converted to psychosis (CHR-C) was compared to CHR individuals who did not convert (CHR-NC). Of the 107 CHR individuals that completed the 2- year follow-up, 29 (27.1%) developed a psychotic disorder. CHR individuals demonstrated poorer performance on all cognitive function tests compared to controls. CHR-C participants exhibited poorer performance on all cognitive tests except the Trail Making Test A and Continuous Performance Test-Identical Pairs compared to CHR-NC participants. The most significant differences displayed between CHR-C and CHR-NC groups were in visual learning, working memory, and reasoning and problem solving. The degree of cognitive impairment in visual learning and working memory may be a predictive marker for individuals who are at risk of developing psychosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the low-power consumption, self-driven ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors have great potentials in a broad range of applications, such as optical communication, ozone monitoring, bio-medicine, and flame detection. In this Letter, it is pretty novel to enhance the photocurrent and responsivity of self-driven UV photodetectors by (Al,Ga)N nanowire/graphene/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) heterojunction successfully. Compared to those of the photodetector with only nanowire/graphene heterojunction, it is found that both the photocurrent and responsivity of the photodetector with nanowire/graphene/PVDF heterojunction can be enhanced more than 100%. It is proposed that PVDF could maintain the internal gain by increasing the number of carrier cycles. Furthermore, this photodetector can also have a high detectivity of 5.3×10 11 Jones and fast response speed under 310 nm illumination. After preserving for one month without any special protection, both photocurrent and responsivity of the photodetector with nanowire/graphene/PVDF heterojunction are demonstrated to be quite stable. Therefore, this work paves an effective way to improve the performance of photodetectors for their applications in the fields of next-generation optoelectronic devices.

Self-driven broadband photodetectors (PDs) with low-power consumption have great potential applications in the wide range of next-generation optoelectronic devices. In this study, a self-driven broadband PD responding to an ultraviolet-visible range based on gallium nitride/gold nanocluster (GaN/AuNC) core-shell nanowire heterojunctions is fabricated for the first time. By introducing the AuNCs onto the GaN nanowire surfaces, the GaN/AuNC core-shell nanowire heterojunctions can be formed efficiently. It is crucial that AuNCs have the functions of light collectors and hole conductors in heterojunctions due to the suitable energy level alignment. Under the optimized conditions of AuNCs, it is found that GaN/AuNC core-shell nanowires can significantly increase the photocurrent and responsivity of PDs, mainly resulting from the light interreflection within the heterojunctions and the effective improvement of carrier transport. Owing to the excitation-dependent emission behavior of AuNCs, the responsivity of PD with GaN/AuNC core-shell nanowire heterojunctions can be enhanced by around 330% compared with that of PD without AuNCs under visible illumination. Furthermore, GaN/AuNC hybrid nanowires with excitation-dependent fluorescence behavior can modulate the enhanced amplitude performance of broadband PDs. Owing to the high stability of AuNCs, the photocurrent of the PD with AuNCs is still quite stable after continuous operation for more than 20 000 s. Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterus. Adolescent endometriosis is often confined to the pelvic cavity and is a common cause of secondary dysmenorrhea in adolescents. Adolescent endometriosis is often with delayed diagnosis. Early diagnosis and intervention can prevent the damage of pelvic structure and ovarian tissue and reduce the incidence of adhesion and infertility. Adolescent endometriosis can be diagnosed and treated by laparoscopic biopsy. There are many kinds of drugs to treat endometriosis, such as NSAIDs, progesterone, selective progesterone receptor antagonists, GnRH-a, gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonists, aromatase inhibitors, dopamine agonists, angiogenesis inhibitors, vegetable drugs, traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions. Future treatment options, including Future treatment options include CTZ, vitamin D3, oxytocin receptor inhibitors, melatonin, doxycycline, bevacizumab, curcumin, isotretinoin, and rosiglitazone, etc., can inhibit ectopic lesions. This article mainly summarizes advances in medical treatment underlying adolescent endometriosis and provides guidance for the early clinical diagnosis and intervention of adolescent endometriosis, to improve the quality of life of patients and reduce adverse outcomes.

Due to the requirements of oceanography exploration and detection, self-powered photodetectors (PDs) with low-power consumption are essential for the next-generation optoelectronic applications. In this work, we successfully demonstrate a self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) PD in seawater based on the (In,Ga)N/GaN core-shell heterojunction nanowires. Compared to those of the PD in pure water, it is found that the upward and downward overshooting features of current can be the key reason contributing to the much faster response speed of the PD in seawater. Thanks to the enhanced response speed, the rise time of PD can be reduced more than 80%, and the fall time remains only 30% by applying in seawater instead of pure water. The key factors of generating these overshooting features should be the instantaneous temperature gradient, carrier accumulation and elimination on the semiconductor/electrolyte interfaces at the moments of light on and off. By the analysis of experimental results, the Na + and Cl - ions are proposed to be the main factors affecting the PD behavior in seawater, which can enhance the conductivity and accelerate the oxidation-reduction reaction significantly. This work paves an effective way to develop the new self-powered PDs for the wide applications in under-seawater detection and communication.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-based immunotherapy has improved the clinical outcome of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, current indicators, such as programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in tumors or tumor mutational burden (TMB), are not considered ideal biomarkers for prognosis. Thus, there is an urgent requirement for a comprehensive risk scoring system., Methods: In this study, we enrolled 464 NSCLC patients who received ICIs between March 2017 and January 2020 at four clinical centers. Univariate and multivariate (the logistic and the Cox regression) analyses were conducted to screen clinically relevant variables. Significant parameters (P<0.05) including absolute lymphocyte count (ALC, L), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status (ECOG PS, E) and lung/pleural metastasis (M) were selected for LEM score. Weighted values based on odds ratio and hazard ratio of multiple analyses were assigned to each parameter. LEM score was the sum of weighted values of each variable (Good, 0-1; Intermediate, 2-3; Poor, 4-6). Kaplan-Meier curves were used to evaluate the association between LEM score and progression-free survival (PFS)., Results: In total, 258 patients were pooled and stratified into three risk categories based on the LEM score. Objective response rate (ORR) was significantly higher in the good-risk group compared with the poor-risk group [55.9% vs. 7.3%, odds ratio (OR), 0.023; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.005-0.099; P<0.001]. Patients with good risk [hazard ratio (HR), 0.130; 95% CI, 0.084-0.203; median PFS, 12.5 months; P<0.001] or intermediate risk (HR, 0.330; 95% CI, 0.222-0.490; median PFS, 4.2 months; P<0.001) had longer PFS than those with poor risk (median PFS, 2.1 months). DNA sequencing was performed in 41 patients [no durable benefit (NDB): n=29; durable clinical benefit (DCB): n=12] and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations were enriched in samples of the NDB group vs. the DCB group (11/29 vs. 1/12; Fisher's exact P=0.073; OR, 6.722; 95% CI, 0.760-59.479). Background: Uncertainty remains on the association between image characteristics of the nodules in computed tomography (CT) scans and lung adenocarcinoma histopathologic subtypes. We aimed to estimate the correlation between preoperative high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scan and postoperative histopathology of stage IA lung adenocarcinoma in East Asian Chinese population., Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records and HRCT images of 190 patients (106 female and 84 male) with resected, preoperatively untreated stage IA adenocarcinomas. The relationship between image characteristics of nodules at preoperative HRCT and their histological subtypes after resection were analyzed. The one-way ANOVA, chi-square test and logistic regression were used for analysis., Results: In 190 patients with stage IA lung adenocarcinoma, median tumor diameter was significantly lower in lepidic predominant invasive adenocarcinoma (LPA) (15.96±6.95 mm). Univariate analysis revealed that ground-glass opacity (GGO) proportion (P<0.001), margin (P<0.001), border definition (P=0.015), pleural retraction (P<0.001) and enhancement (P<0.001) had statistically significant differences in four histological subtypes. The multivariate analysis referenced for lepidic group which indicated that GGO proportion and pleural retraction were independent associated with acinar group (RR=4.221, 95% CI: 1.770-10.066, P=0.001; RR=0.380, 95% CI: 0.158-0.916, P=0.031, respectively). Male and whose nodule margin with spiculation or lobulation were prone to papillary predominant invasive adenocarcinoma (PPA) (RR=0.288, 95% CI: 0.090-0.920, P=0.036; RR=0.250, 95% CI: 0.070-0.887, P=0.032, respectively). GGO proportion and nodule margin were independent related factors in solid predominant invasive adenocarcinoma (SPA) (RR=13.338, 95% CI: 2.974-59.811, P=0.001; RR=0.097, 95% CI: 0.016-0.606, P=0.013, respectively)., Conclusions: Nodules with spiculation or lobulation and less GGO proportion are determinants of histological subtypes with poor prognosis in stage IA lung adenocarcinoma patients according to the 2011 histologic IASLC/ATS/ERS classification., Competing Interests: Conflicts of Interest: The authors have no conflicts of interest to declare.

Background: The kinesin family member C1 (KIFC1, also known as HSET) is a kinesin superfamily protein (KIFs). Although KIFC1 acts as a crucial role in the development of several human cancers, the KIFC1 expression profile and functional remain unclear in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)., Methods: We collected the fresh NSCLC samples and paired normal lung tissue in patients with lung cancer operation, and detected KIFC1 expression using quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blotting. To expand on previous smaller-scale studies, NSCLC tissue microarrays (TMA) were analyzed by IHC. Finally, cell lines were employed to further probe the potential mechanisms., Results: In this study, we described that KIFC1 was significantly upregulated in NSCLC tissues compared with the corresponding normal tissues. Moreover, KIFC1 overexpression was associated with the poor overall survival (OS) of NSCLC patients, and siRNA-mediated knockdown of KIFC1 significantly suppressed tumor cell proliferation in vitro . Further verification showed that inhibition of KIFC1 gene expression caused the upregulation of the cyclin-dependent kinases inhibitor p21 and downregulation of the cell cycle driver protein cdc2, which arrested cells in the G2-M phase., Conclusions: we report that increased KIFC1 expression may promote cell proliferation and identified it as a biomarker of unfavorable prognosis in NSCLC patients., Competing Interests: The authors have no conflicts of interest to declare.

Objective: To observe the effect of bronchial lavage (BL) on infant bronchial foreign bodies with pneumonia during the bronchoscopic surgery, and assess its clinical value., Method: One hundred and twenty-three cases aged between 1-3 years were randomly divided into two groups. The control group (n=58) underwent rigid bronchoscopic retrieval of foreign bodies under general anaesthesia, and the BL group (n=65) received an additional BL using 1% lidocaine (2 ml) with 1:100000 epinephrine, and 0.125% metronidazole (5 ml) during the bronchoscopic procedure. We compared intraoperative complications and postoperative recovery time between the two groups., Result: The incidence rate of complications in the BL group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). An earlier recovery after surgery was achieved in the BL group (P<0.05)., Conclusion: Intraoperative BL is a safe and effective therapy for reducing the incidence of complications and improving the recovery in infant patients of bronchial foreign bodies with subsequent pneumonia.
