1. Understanding Undergraduate Student Borrowing in China: A Qualitative Analysis

Abstract

As China moved from elite to mass higher education, student borrowers as the product of state intervention have surged. Yet little attention has been paid to their voices. This study conducts reflexive thematic analysis with a qualitative inquiry into lived experiences of 41 current borrowers. A five-factor typology of debt attitudes yields a dynamic explanation of debt and repayment complexities. Students perceive borrowing as an investment in human and social capital. They are, however, cautious of consumer credit. Far from being a deterrent or added burden, educational indebtedness grants them a measure of freedom and autonomy in college. And they consider debt repayment manageable, mainly if a family safety net exists.

2. The Influence of Si on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Hot-Rolled Wire Rods for Cable Steel Wire Ropes

Abstract

The cross section and longitudinal section microstructure morphology of two different Si contents hot-rolled wire rods were observed using scanning electron microscopy and energy spectrum （EBSD） instruments. The tensile properties of the hot-rolled wire rods were tested using a universal testing machine. The results show that with the increase of Si content， the undercooling of pearlite transformation increases， and the size of pearlite colony and pearlite interlamellar spacing in hot-rolled wire rods decrease.The Si element causes the Mn element to segregate in the cementite， increasing its stability and reducing the spheroidization of the cementite lamellae. The Si element weakens the texture strength of the pearlite in the transverse and longitudinal sections of the wire rod， leading the pearlite structure more uniform and the orientation more random. The Si element can greatly improve the strength of hot-rolled wire rods and finished steel wires， while slightly improving plasticity. The tensile strength of low Si wire rod is 1134 MPa， and the uniform elongation is 7.1%； The tensile strength of high Si wire rod is 1263 MPa， and the uniform elongation is 7.3%. The tensile strength of the low Si wire is 1937 MPa， and the uniform elongation is 2.2%； The tensile strength of the high Si wire is 2106 MPa， and the uniform elongation is 2.3%.

Abstract

Este artículo presenta una colección de funciones computacionales que son utilizadas en la implementación de un análisis bayesiano exhaustivo para la diferencia de dos proporciones. Con este fin, se discute la estimación puntual, la estimación mediante intervalos de credibilidad y la inferencia predictiva desde dos escenarios: el primero basado en las densidades exactas a priori y a posteriori (construidas mediante la primera función hipergeométrica de Appell) y el segundo basado en densidades simuladas (mediante un algoritmo de cadenas de Markov con métodos de Monte Carlo). La implementación de estas funciones se realiza en el programa estadístico R, porque es un software libre, funciona bien en múltiples plataformas y permite enmarcar estas funciones bajo un objeto computacional denominado “paquete”. || In this paper we present a collection of functions that can be used to implement a comprehensive Bayesian analysis of a difference of two proportions. For instance, point estimation, credibility intervals and predictive inference are discussed in both scenarios, the priori and posteriori exact densities(based in the first Appell hypergeometric function) and the simulated densities (based in a Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm). We have chosento implement the suite of functions using the R statistical software because it is freely available, runs on multiple platforms and allows to compress the functions into a single computational object named “package”.

Abstract

Although glycogen synthase kinase β (Gsk3β) has been shown to regulate tissue inflammation, whether and how it regulates inflammation resolution versus inflammation activation is unclear. In a murine liver, partial warm ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) model, we found that Gsk3β inhibitory phosphorylation increased at both the early-activation and late-resolution stages of the disease. Myeloid Gsk3β deficiency not only alleviated liver injuries, it also facilitated the restoration of liver homeostasis. Depletion of Kupffer cells prior to the onset of liver ischemia diminished the differences between the WT and Gsk3β-KO mice in the activation of liver IRI. However, the resolution of liver IRI remained accelerated in Gsk3β-KO mice. In CD11b-DTR mice, Gsk3β-deficient BM-derived macrophages (BMMs) facilitated the resolution of liver IRI as compared with WT cells. Furthermore, Gsk3β deficiency promoted the reparative phenotype differentiation in vivo in liver-infiltrating macrophages and in vitro in BMMs. Gsk3 pharmacological inhibition promoted the resolution of liver IRI in WT, but not myeloid MerTK-deficient, mice. Thus, Gsk3β regulates liver IRI at both activation and resolution stages of the disease. Gsk3 inactivation enhances the proresolving function of liver-infiltrating macrophages in an MerTK-dependent manner.
