The process of vocational and professional orientation for kids, adolescents and young people in Cuba, regarding the different professions and occupations constitutes a priority for the national education system. That is why the current doctoral investigation is an answer to the insufficiency of the didactic conception of the subject of study Civic Formation at the Junior High School, all this with the objective of contributing to the vocational and professional orientation of students. During the research process were used methods of theoretic level such as, synthesis-analysis, logical-historical and deduction-induction; and regarding the empiric level; the observation, quiz, interview and analysis of documents. The previously mentioned contribution would be implemented through a system of procedures in order to perform practical activities which would allow students to actively and consciously participate in the solution of productive and socially useful tasks in the community. Contributing that way to the development the qualities, morals and civic values, needed for the election of a future labor. RESUMEN En Cuba el proceso de formación vocacional y orientación profesional de niños, adolescentes y jóvenes, hacia las diferentes profesiones y oficios, constituye una prioridad del sistema nacional de educación. El presente trabajo responde a la investigación doctoral acerca de las insuficiencias en la concepción didáctica de la asignatura Formación Ciudadana en la secundaria básica, con el objetivo de contribuir a la formación vocacional y orientación profesional. Durante el proceso investigativo se emplearon métodos del nivel teórico tales como: análisis-síntesis, histórico-lógico e inducción-deducción; y del nivel empírico: la observación, la encuesta, la entrevista y el análisis de documentos. La contribución práctica para la solución del problema detectado consiste en un sistema de procedimientos que permitió a los estudiantes la participación activa y consciente en la comunidad para la realización de tareas productivas y socialmente útiles. Se contribuye con ello a la formación y desarrollo de cualidades, valores y principios ciudadanos necesarios para la decisión laboral futura. Background16S sequencing results are often used for Machine Learning (ML) tasks. 16S gene sequences are represented as feature counts, which are associated with taxonomic representation. Raw feature counts may not be the optimal representation for ML.MethodsWe checked multiple preprocessing steps and tested the optimal combination for 16S sequencing-based classification tasks. We computed the contribution of each step to the accuracy as measured by the Area Under Curve (AUC) of the classification.ResultsWe show that the log of the feature counts is much more informative than the relative counts. We further show that merging features associated with the same taxonomy at a given level, through a dimension reduction step for each group of bacteria improves the AUC. Finally, we show that z-scoring has a very limited effect on the results.ConclusionsThe prepossessing of microbiome 16S data is crucial for optimal microbiome based Machine Learning. These preprocessing steps are integrated into the MIPMLP - Microbiome Preprocessing Machine Learning Pipeline, which is available as a stand-alone version at: https://github.com/louzounlab/microbiome/tree/master/Preprocess or as a service at http://mip-mlp.math.biu.ac.il/Home Both contain the code, and standard test sets.

Introduction: educating the older hearing impaired patients about their condition and the use of hearing aids is a social requirement. Objective: to design and implement an educative intervention aimed at preparing older adult patients with presence of sensorineural hearing loss regarding the use of hearing aids for auditory rehabilitation attended at the Centro Auditivo “Dr. Mario Velázquez Leal”, Guantánamo, in 2019. Method: a pre-experimental study was conducted on 80 patients with sensorineural hearing loss who used hearing aids. The stimulus consisted on the implementation of an educative intervention aimed at preparing them for appearance hearing loss and the use of hearing aids for auditory rehabilitation. Results: the 88.7% of patients considering that hearing loss is a problem in health and 87.5% recognized that they had an inadequate attitude towards the management of their impairment, which revealed the need to educate them on the subject. The 36.2% of patients were adequately prepared on the subject, but after the educative intervention this proportion rose to 93.7%. Conclusions: it is marked that older adult patients with sensorineural hearing loss, who use hearing aids for auditory rehabilitation, demonstrated theoretical deficiencies on the hearing loss and use of hearing aids subject, which are solved with the design and implementation of an educative intervention aimed at preparing the patients for this purpose.

In this paper, by using the concept of the α-Garaghty contraction, we introduce the new notion of the α-Θ-Garaghty type contraction and prove some fixed point results for this contraction in partial metric spaces. Also, we give some examples and applications to illustrate the main results.

As the world's largest Moslem population of the world, Indonesia has been practicing halal principles in all aspects of the country's life. In foodservice business sector, halal accreditation acts as the assurance of food and beverage safety and quality that is legitimized by the government or the relevant Moslem religious bodies. This paper aims to examine the knowledge and attitudes of restaurant business operators in Surabaya toward halal certification. The study was exploratory in nature, applying in-depth interviews to eight informants who are owners or managers of the Chinese food restaurants in Surabaya. The findings showed that despite the positive attitude towards halal certification, the level of managers'knowledge about halal certification was still very low due to lack of information they officially received from the relevant organizations regarding the certification.

A retrospective analysis is made of 61 patients with clinical and histological diagnosis of pure sarcomas of the jaw treated between 1950 and 1984. Surgery was the treatment of choice in 41 cases. Biopsy or palliative treatment were undertaken in the remaining patients. Twenty-four cases relapsed before 12 months, and 12 relapsed before 3 years. Twenty-four died before 12 months, nine before 2 years, and three after 2 years. At present there is no evidence of disease in eight patients: three out of 25 fibrosarcomas (one more than 1 year, one more than 13 years, and one more than 14 years), three out of 15 chondrosarcomas (one more than 1 year, one more than 13 years, and one more than 14 years), and two out of 15 osteosarcomas (one more than 18 years). The prognosis is gloomy. However, an early diagnosis and radical surgery contribute to an improvement in the course of the disease.

This report covers the authors' experience during 19 years with patients at Buenos Aires Municipal School of Oral, Cervical, and Thyroid Surgery at Rawson Hospital; at the Municipal Hospital of Oncology; and in their private practice. During this period, 165 patients underwent surgery for thyroid cancer. An analysis is made of the surgical treatments chosen, the different histological types encountered, and the lymph node and radical neck dissections performed. The advantages and drawbacks of total thyroidectomy, as well as the survival rates, are commented upon.

In order to establish the response and tolerance to the intraarterial association of cis-platinum and bleomycin, we have treated 38 patients with advanced head and neck cancer with the following dosages: continuous infusion of bleomycin, 20 mg/m2/day on days 1 and 2, and cis-platinum, 100 mg/m2 in a 3-hr infusion on day 3. Each treatment cycle was repeated every 21 days, the duration being conditioned to tolerance and response. All the patients underwent at least one complete series of treatment. The results were as follows: 11 patients (29%) had complete remission, and 22 (58%) had partial remission. No instances were ascertained of local toxicity (stomatitis, dermatitis). Except for 2 patients with reversible facial paralysis and 6 with anemia, no other signs of general toxicity were ascertained. In conclusion, the intraarterial combination of cis-platinum/bleomycin has proved highly effective (87% response) whereas the low index of local and general toxicity renders the drugs suitable for use before surgery and/or radiotherapy.

Because of difficulties encountered in the ligation of the external carotid artery, both anteriorly and retrovascularly (internal jugular vein), we propose a posterior approach based on anatomic principles. This approach to the external carotid artery is especially useful when structural alterations of the anterolateral neck are present. Surgical details are presented in three patients and the results demonstrate its practicability.
