Abstract Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and human metapneumovirus (hMPV) cause human respiratory diseases and are major targets for vaccine development. In this study, we design uncleaved prefusion-closed (UFC) trimers for the fusion protein (F) of both viruses by examining mutations critical to F metastability. For RSV, we assess four previous prefusion F designs, including the first and second generations of DS-Cav1, SC-TM, and 847A. We then identify key mutations that can maintain prefusion F in a native-like, closed trimeric form (up to 76%) without introducing any interprotomer disulfide bond. For hMPV, we develop a stable UFC trimer with a truncated F2-F1 linkage and an interprotomer disulfide bond. Dozens of UFC constructs are characterized by negative-stain electron microscopy (nsEM), x-ray crystallography (11 RSV-F structures and one hMPV-F structure), and antigenic profiling. Using an optimized RSV-F UFC trimer as bait, we identify three potent RSV neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) from a phage-displayed human antibody library, with a public NAb lineage targeting sites Ø and V and two cross-pneumovirus NAbs recognizing site III. In mouse immunization, rationally designed RSV-F and hMPV-F UFC trimers induce robust antibody responses with high neutralizing titers. Our study provides a foundation for future prefusion F-based RSV and hMPV vaccine development.

BackgroundDrought stress severely affects global crop yields, reduces water availability, and hinders growth. Strigolactones can alleviate damage caused by various abiotic stresses in plants; however, limited research has been conducted on their ability to enhance drought tolerance in tobacco.MethodsThis study evaluated the drought tolerance of ‘Qin Tobacco 96’ (drought-tolerant) and ‘Yun Tobacco 116’ (moisture-sensitive) before and after the application of gibberellic acid lactone at a concentration of 0.2 mg·L⁻¹ under three drought conditions: mild, moderate, and severe. The primary drought tolerance traits were identified from 29 related indicators, including agronomic traits, photosynthetic efficiency, reactive oxygen metabolism, antioxidant enzyme activities, osmotic regulators, and hormone regulation, using affiliation function, principal component analysis, and cluster analysis to categorize the traits. The degree of drought tolerance enhancement in the two tobacco varieties was evaluated under various treatments.ResultsSpraying exogenous strigolactones reduced the adverse effects of drought stress, particularly in the moisture-sensitive Y116 variety. Under drought stress, chlorophyll content and photosynthetic parameters significantly decreased, whereas strigolactone treatment increased both chlorophyll content and photosynthetic efficiency. Strigolactones reduced the accumulation of reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde content, enhancing the antioxidant capacity of both varieties. Additionally, strigolactones increased the levels of osmoregulatory substances and activated the production of antioxidant enzymes, thereby enhancing drought tolerance. Furthermore, drought stress disrupted the balance of endogenous hormones, decreasing levels of auxin, gibberellic acid, and ribosylzeatin, while increasing abscisic acid levels. Exogenous strigolactones restored this hormonal balance.ConclusionSixteen traits associated with drought tolerance in tobacco were analyzed using principal component analysis, the traits were classified using cluster analysis, and the magnitude of the D-value was determined by calculating the values of the affiliation function and their respective weights. The results indicated that a concentration of 0.2 mg·L⁻¹ of strigolactones enhanced the drought tolerance of tobacco across different levels of drought stress and promoted the growth and development of flue-cured tobacco. However, the interactions between strigolactones and various hormones under drought stress require further investigation to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. The application methods of strigolactones should be optimized.

BackgroundIn recent years, more severe droughts have occurred frequently in many parts of the world, drought stress is the primary abiotic stress factor restricting the growth and quality of flue-cured tobacco. Therefore, screening dryland cultivation-compatible flue-cured tobacco varieties will help reduce the negative impact of drought.MethodsTobacco varieties were selected: Qinyan 96 (Q96), Zhongyan 101 (Z101), Yunyan 87 (Y87), and Yunyan 116 (Y116). A pot experiment was conducted with four water supply gradients: sufficient, mild stress, moderate stress, and severe stress. The aim was to analyze inter-varietal differences in agronomic traits, photosynthetic traits, reactive oxygen species (ROS) metabolism, and antioxidant enzyme system under drought stress. Additionally, the drought resistance of four flue-cured tobacco varieties was evaluated using principal component analysis and membership function analysis.ResultsThe results showed that drought intensification inhibited seedling growth and development across all varieties, with Q96 showing the least decrease and Y116 the greatest. With the increasing degree of drought stress, photosynthetic rates (Pn), transpiration rate (Tr), and stomatal conduction (Gs) have shown gradually decreasing trends, while substomatal cavity CO2 concentration (Ci) showed a growing trend. Severe drought corresponded with lower chlorophyll content and decreased the maximal photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), photosystem II (PSII), and photochemical quenching coefficient (qP) in all varieties, while steady-state non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) increased. Increased drought stress led to significantly higher reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content accumulation in tobacco seedlings. The antioxidant enzyme activities in, Q96, Z101, and Y87 increased under mild drought stress, whereas Y116 showed decreased activity.ConclusionThe drought resistance ranking among the four varieties is as follows: Q96 > Z101 > Y87 > Y116. Therefore, Q96 is a promising drought-tolerant breeding material that can be used as a reference for dryland cultivation of flue-cured tobacco.

The development of an effective and broadly protective influenza vaccine against circulating and emerging strains remains elusive. In this study, we evaluated a potentially universal influenza vaccine based on single-component self-assembling protein nanoparticles (1c-SApNPs) presenting the conserved matrix protein 2 ectodomain (M2e) from influenza A and B viruses (IAV and IBV, respectively). We previously designed a tandem antigen comprising three IAV M2e domains of human, avian/swine, and human/swine origins (termed M2ex3). The M2ex3-presenting 1c-SApNPs conferred complete protection in mice against sequential lethal challenges with H1N1 and H3N2. To broaden this protection to cover IBVs, we designed a series of antigens incorporating different arrangements of three IAV M2e domains and three copies of IBV M2e. Tandem repeats of IAV and IBV (termed influenza A-B) M2e arrayed on the I3-01v9a 60-mer 1c-SApNP, when formulated with an oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant, generated greater M2e-specific immunogenicity and protective efficacy than the soluble influenza A-B M2e trimer, indicated by higher survival rates and reduced weight loss post-challenge. Importantly, one of the influenza A-B M2e SApNP constructs elicited 100% protection against a lethal influenza A/Puerto Rico/8/1934 (H1N1) challenge in mice and 70% protection against a lethal influenza B/Florida/4/2006 (Yamagata lineage) challenge, the latter of which has not been reported in the literature to date. Our study thus provides a promising M2e-based single-component universal vaccine candidate against the two major types of influenza virus circulating in humans.

A new supramolecular approach toward the reductive degradation of organic dyes by hybridizing hydrophilic hydrazide-pillar[5]arene (HP5A) as surface-modifiers with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) has been demonstrated. The fabricated supramolecular hybrid nanomaterial (denoted as HP5A-AgNPs) with ideal mono-dispersity, improved stability, and smaller size, show high catalytic activity in boosting organic dyes degradation, as delivered by a broad spectrum of organic dyes, including rhodamine B, rhodamine 6G, methylene blue, and methyl orange. This work expands the application scope of macrocycles-derived organic-inorganic nanohybrids into catalytic degradation and environmental protection areas.

Abstract Uncleaved prefusion-optimized (UFO) design can stabilize diverse HIV-1 envelope glycoproteins (Envs). Single-component, self-assembling protein nanoparticles (1c-SApNP) can display 8 or 20 native-like Env trimers as vaccine candidates. We characterize the biophysical, structural, and antigenic properties of 1c-SApNPs that present the BG505 UFO trimer with wildtype and modified glycans. For 1c-SApNPs, glycan trimming improves recognition of the CD4 binding site without affecting broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) to major glycan epitopes. In mice, rabbits, and nonhuman primates, glycan trimming increases the frequency of vaccine responders (FVR) and steers antibody responses away from immunodominant glycan holes and glycan patches. The mechanism of vaccine-induced immunity is examined in mice. Compared with the UFO trimer, the multilayered E2p and I3-01v9 1c-SApNPs show 420 times longer retention in lymph node follicles, 20-32 times greater presentation on follicular dendritic cell dendrites, and up-to-4 times stronger germinal center reactions. These findings can inform future HIV-1 vaccine development.

Abstract Dialysis adequacy is a known risk factor for mortality in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. However, the optimal dialysis dose remains controversial. Therefore, we aimed to explore the relationship between dialysis dose and all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality among MHD. We examined the associations of dialysis dose with mortality in a cohort (n = 558) of MHD patients from 31 December 2015 to 31 December 2020. Dialysis adequacy was assessed using baseline Single-pool Kt/Vurea (spKt/V), which was categorized into three groups, and the lowest dose group was used as the reference category. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using Cox proportional hazards regression models. A total of 214 patients died (64.5% for CVD). Compared with the low-dose group, high-dose group could reduce the risk of all-cause mortality by 33% (HR = 0.67, 95% CI: 0.47–0.98). Of note, when stratification by age, high-dose group was associated with both lower all-cause (HR = 0.46, 95% CI: 0.26–0.81) and CVD mortality (HR = 0.42, 95% CI: 0.20–0.88) among patients with age below 65 years. When stratification by dialysis age, high-dose group was associated with decreased risk of CVD mortality (HR = 0.43, 95% CI: 0.20–0.91) among patients with dialysis age over 60 months. spKt/V is a simple index of hemodialysis dose used in clinical practice and a useful modifiable factor in predicting the risk of death, especially in MHD patients under 65 years old or dialysis age more than 60 months.

Abstract Esketamine is dextrorotatory ketamine, which is an enantiomer of ketamine. Compared with ketamine, it has the advantages of a fast metabolism, fewer side effects, and strong pharmacological effects, so it is more suitable for clinical use. Esketamine has a powerful analgesic effect and has little effect on breathing. It has a wide range of applications in the fields of pediatric anesthesia, conscious sedation anesthesia, and emergency analgesia. In addition, it is also used for pain that is difficult to relieve with conventional drugs and to prevent postoperative pain. Various routes of administration are also suitable for patients who need short‐term analgesia and sedation. As a drug, esketamine inevitably brings some side effects when it is used clinically. In this article, by introducing the mechanism of action and pharmacological characteristics of esketamine, its clinical application is reviewed, and it provides a reference for the more reasonable and safe clinical application of esketamine.

AIM: To summarize the clinical features, systemic associations, risk factors and choroidal thickness (CT) changing in posterior scleritis (PS) with serous retinal detachment. METHODS: This retrospective study included 23 patients diagnosed PS with retinal detachment from August 2012 to July 2017. All patients’ medical history and clinical features were recorded. The examinations included best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), fundus examination, and routine eye examinations. Posterior coats thickness (PCT) was determined by B-scan ultrasound, the CT was measured by enhanced depth imaging spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) and clinical data were compiled and analyzed. RESULTS: After application of extensive exclusion criteria, 23 patients with PS remained (13 females, 10 males). The average age at presentation was 29.5±9.24 years old. Ocular pain and blurred vision were the two most common complained symptoms by patients. Anterior scleritis occurred in 12 patients, which was confirmed by ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) examination. Despite all patients displaying serous retinal detachment in their macula, no fluorescein leakage was observed in the macular area. Optic disc swelling was documented in 10 of the 23 eyes. From B-scan ultrasound examination, the PCT increased with fluid in Tenon’s capsule demonstrated as a typical T-sign. Dendritic cells (DCs) are the most potent professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs) that mediate T-cell immune responses. Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed diseases and its mortality rate is higher than any other cancer in both humans and canines. Plantain polysaccharide (PLP), extracted from the whole plant of Plantago asiatica L., could promote the maturation of DCs. In this research, we found that PLP could upregulate the maturation of DCs both in vitro and in vivo. PLP-activated DCs could stimulate lymphocytes’ proliferation and differentiate naive T cells into cytotoxic T cells. Tumor antigen-specific lymphocyte responses were enhanced by PLP and CIPp canine breast tumor cells lysate-pulsed DCs, and PLP and CIPp-cell-lysate jointly stimulated DCs cocultured with lymphocytes having the great cytotoxicity on CIPp cells. In the 4T1 murine breast tumor model, PLP could control the size of breast tumors and improve immunity by recruiting DCs, macrophages, and CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in the tumor microenvironment. These results indicated that PLP could achieve immunotherapeutic effects and improve immunity in the breast tumor model.

Probiotics are universally recognized for their health benefits, despite the fact that their effects depend on the strain. Identification and enumeration of probiotic strains are required prior to evaluating their effectiveness. Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus X253 is a potential probiotic strain with antioxidant capacity. Comparative genomics and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were used to identify a strain-specific locus within the holA gene for strain X253 that was distinct in 30 different L. rhamnosus strains. Using quantitative PCR, the primers and probe designed for the locus were able to distinguish L. rhamnosus X253 from the other 20 probiotic strains. The chosen locus remained stable over 19 generations. The sensitivity of the assay was 0.2 pg genomic DNA of L. rhamnosus X253, or 103 cfu/mL bacteria of this strain. In terms of repeatability and reproducibility, relative standard deviations (RSD) were less than 1% and 3%, respectively. Additionally, this assay achieved accurate enumerations of L. rhamnosus X253 in spiked milk and complex powder samples. The strain-specific assay could be used for quality control and compliance assessment of dairy products.

Uncariae Ramulus Cum Uncis (URCU) is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine, and is reported to have various central nervous system effects. Alkaloids have been demonstrated to be the predominant pharmacological active components of URCU. In order to evaluate the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability and transport mechanism of six typical indole alkaloids from URCU, the MDCK-pHaMDR cell monolayer model was used as an in vitro surrogate model for BBB. The samples were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography, and the apparent permeability coefficients (Papp) were calculated. Among the six alkaloids, isorhynchophylline (2), isocorynoxeine (4), hirsutine (5) and hirsuteine (6) showed high permeability, with Papp values at 10−5 cm/s level in bidirectional transport. For rhynchophylline (1) and corynoxeine (3), they showed moderate permeability, with Papp values from the apical (AP) side to the basolateral (BL) side at 10−6 cm/s level and efflux ratio (Papp BL→AP/Papp AP→BL) above 2. The time- and concentration-dependency experiments indicated that the main mechanism for 2, 4, 5 and 6 through BBB was passive diffusion. The efflux mechanism involved in the transports of compounds 1 and 3 could be reduced significantly by verapamil, and molecular docking screening also showed that 1 and 3 had strong bindings to P-glycoprotein. This study provides useful information for predicting the BBB permeability for 1–6, as well as better understanding of their central nervous system pharmacological activities.

In the title molecule, C28H28O9, the phenol and the benzene rings adjacent to the α,β-unsaturated ketone unit are inclined at 9.15 (13)° to each other. The terminal phenyl ring is oriented with respect to the phenol ring at a dihedral angle of 85.88 (13)°. In the crystal, the methylene C atoms of the dihydrodioxine ring are disordered over two sites with an occupancy ratio of 0.463 (18):0.537 (18), and both disordered components of the dihydrodioxine ring adopt twisted-chair conformations. An intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bond and weak intermolecular C—H...O hydrogen bonds are present in the crystal structure.

Nine diffusion couples and 32 key samples were prepared to map the phase diagram of the Ca–Mg–Zn system. Phase relations and solubility limits were determined for binary and ternary compounds using scanning electron microscopy, electron probe microanalysis and x-ray diffraction (XRD). The crystal structure of the ternary compounds was studied by XRD and electron backscatter diffraction. Four ternary intermetallic (IM) compounds were identified in this system: Ca3MgxZn15−x (4.6≤x≤12 at 335 °C, IM1), Ca14.5Mg15.8Zn69.7 (IM2), Ca2Mg5Zn13 (IM3) and Ca1.5Mg55.3Zn43.2 (IM4). Three binary compounds were found to have extended solid solubility into ternary systems: CaZn11, CaZn13 and Mg2Ca form substitutional solid solutions where Mg substitutes for Zn atoms in the first two compounds, and Zn substitutes for both Ca and Mg atoms in Mg2Ca. The isothermal section of the Ca–Mg–Zn phase diagram at 335 °C was constructed on the basis of the obtained experimental results. The morphologies of the diffusion couples in the Ca–Mg–Zn phase diagram at 335 °C were studied. Depending on the terminal compositions of the diffusion couples, the two-phase regions in the diffusion zone have either a tooth-like morphology or contain a matrix phase with isolated and/or dendritic precipitates.

The article presents a research report on mechanism of a COVID-19 nanoparticle vaccine candidate that elicits a broadly neutralizing antibody response to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants. Topics include emerging variants of SARS-CoV-2 are essential for combating the COVID-19 pandemic; and using single-cell sorting, monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) with diverse neutralization breadth and potency were isolated from mice immunized with the receptor binding domain.

A recent metaanalysis shows that 0.7% of nanoparticles are delivered to solid tumors. This low delivery efficiency has major implications in the translation of cancer nanomedicines, as most of the nanomedicines are sequestered by nontumor cells. To improve the delivery efficiency, there is a need to investigate the quantitative contribution of each organ in blocking the transport of nanoparticles to solid tumors. Here, we hypothesize that the removal of the liver macrophages, cells that have been reported to take up the largest amount of circulating nanoparticles, would lead to a significant increase in the nanoparticle delivery efficiency to solid tumors. We were surprised to discover that the maximum achievable delivery efficiency was only 2%. In our analysis, there was a clear correlation between particle design, chemical composition, macrophage depletion, tumor pathophysiology and tumor delivery efficiency. In many cases, we observed an 18-150 times greater delivery efficiency, but we were not able to achieve a delivery efficiency higher than 2%. The results suggest the need to look deeper at other organs such as the spleen, lymph nodes and tumor in mediating the delivery process. Systematically mapping the contribution of each organ quantitatively will allow us to pinpoint the cause of the low tumor delivery efficiency. This, in effect, enables the generation of a rational strategy to improve the delivery efficiency of nanoparticles to solid tumors either through the engineering of multifunctional nanosystems or through manipulation of biological barriers. The article focuses on the engineered elastic hydrogel-based sealant which has biodegradation and mechanical properties through modified recombinant protein called methacryloyl-substituted tropoelastin (MeTro). Topics discussed include the capacity of the sealant to control air and liquid leakages on tissue defect through photopolymerization, the synthesis and physical characterization of MeTro, and the adhesion testing of MeTro hydrogels.

Different lanthanides (Y, Ce) ions doped anatase TiO2 nanosheets films with dominant high-reactivity {001} facets were synthesized on transparent conductive FTO substrates via a simple, one-step solvothermal method. In the present work, the amounts of HF and the doping ratios of rare earths were explored in detail. The crystal morphologies, structural features, binding information, optical absorption, and photocatalytic performances were investigated systematically. The optimal conditions of HF amount and rare earths doping ratios proved to be 2 mL and 1.0%, respectively. The results showed that the optimum lanthanides (Y, Ce) doped anatase TiO2 nanosheets films displayed higher photocatalytic activities than pure TiO2 films, and Y doped TiO2 showed better photocatalytic activity than Ce doped TiO2. The possible mechanism of the photocatalysis can be mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect of lanthanides doping and exposed high-reactively {001} facets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Surgery for advanced gastric cancer (AGC) often includes dissection of splenic hilar lymph nodes (SHLNs). This study compared the safety and effectiveness of different approaches to SHLN dissection for upperand/ or middle-third AGC. Methods: We retrospectively compared and analyzed clinicopathologic and follow-up data from a prospectively collected database at the Peking University Cancer Hospital. Patients were divided into three groups: in situ spleenpreserved, ex situ spleen-preserved and splenectomy. Results: We analyzed 217 patients with upper- and/or middle-third AGC who underwent R0 total or proximal gastrectomy with splenic hilar lymphadenectomy from January 2006 to December 2011, of whom 15.2% (33/ 217) had metastatic SHLNs, and from whom 11.4% (53/466) of the dissected SHLNs were metastatic. The number of harvested SHLNs per patient was higher in the ex situ group than in the in situ group (P = 0.017). Length of postoperative hospital stay was longer in the splenectomy group than in the in situ group (P = 0.002) or the ex situ group (P < 0.001). The splenectomy group also lost more blood volume (P = 0.007) and had a higher postoperative complication rate (P = 0.005) than the ex situ group. Kaplan-Meier (log rank test) analysis showed significant survival differences among the three groups (P = 0.018). Multivariate analysis showed operation duration (P = 0.043), blood loss volume (P = 0.046), neoadjuvant chemotherapy (P = 0.005), and N stage (P < 0.001) were independent prognostic factors for survival. Conclusions: The ex situ procedure was more effective for SHLN dissection than the in situ procedure without sacrificing safety, whereas splenectomy was not more effective, and was less safe. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of testosterone on mouse granulosa cell morphology, and the expression levels of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1&#945). Mouse granulosa cells were isolated and identified, and their morphology was examined using hematoxylin and eosin, F-actin, and follicle-stimulating hormone receptor staining. The mRNA expression levels of AMH, VEGF and HIF-1α were examined using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and their protein secretion levels were investigated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Testosterone treatment did not affect granulosa cell morphology; however, it significantly increased the mRNA expression levels of AMH and VEGF, and the protein secretion levels of AMH, VEGF and HIF-1α. These results suggested that testosterone was able to regulate the functions of granulosa cells by upregulating the expression levels of AMH, VEGF and HIF-1α. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new ternary compound, Mg15 - xZnxSr3 with extensive solid solubility in the Mg-Zn-Sr system was observed and studied using electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), scanning electron microscopy SEM, and X-ray techniques. The solid solubility limits of this compound were found to be Mg15 - xZnxSr3 (0.24 ≤ x ≤ 10.58, at.%) at 300 °C using a diffusion couple and several equilibrated alloys. Analysis of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns was carried out by Rietveld method. XRD data has shown that this solid solution crystallizes in the hexagonal P63/mmc (194) space group with the Ni11Si4Sc3 prototype. The lattice parameters decrease linearly with decreasing Mg content indicating substitutional solid solubility. The fractional atomic occupancy of the 6h, 6g, 4f, 2b and 12k sites of this compound are function of Mg content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents information on a study related to basic ecology of a parasitoid species Spathius agrili (S. agrili) which is a predator of the emarald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis (A. planipennis). It further informs that A. planipennis is a pest of Fraximus velutina (F. velutina), velvet as plant in China, which has caused plantation damage after being accidentally introduced in North America. It also presents photographic images of the life stages and behavior of S. agrili.

The article discusses a study on the ecology, biology and lifecycle of the emerald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis. It is stated that insect was univoltine, pupated in early April after the winter season and matured into an adult after 20 days. It further states that adults mostly fed on ash foliage of trees and oviposition started in mid May after mating which led egg laying in an average of 15.7 days.

To meet the requirement of extensive temperature adaptability of infrared optical systems, diffractive optics is applied to a high resolution Petzval objective in the 3-5 μm waveband and a hybrid Petzval objective, which is passively athermalised over the temperature range -20 °C to +50 °C, is designed. Only two materials Si and Ge are used. The theoretical polychromatic MTF is above 0.80 at 20 cycles/mm and near diffraction-limited; the geometrical spot diameter is controlled to within 20 μm over the range of temperature. The lens is compatible with a latest generation Middle Wave Infrared (MWIR) staring array imager with the pixel size of 25 μm. Objective To improve the level of blood transfusion records by evaluating the transfusion cases in the whole hospital through the transfusion case evaluation system and monitoring the transfusion cases through the medical record quality control system. Methods Medical records of blood transfusion were evaluated according to the Implementation Rules of Beijing Regional Hospital Management Assessment and Evaluation Standards (2009 Edition), Medical Records Writing Standards, Technical Standards for Blood Transfusion and other relevant requirements. A total of 21 790 clinical blood transfusion records from 2015 to 2020 were collected through the medical record quality control system, among which 5 515 were collected from non-surgical departments and 16 275(actual blood cases 4134) from surgical departments. Using blood transfusion evaluation system for each classification and summary of problem to register, by withholding statement that links to the performance, and real-time feedback and monthly bulletin of blood transfusion of the public, the common problems of blood transful- sion duration omissions, evaluation of unfinished after blood transfusion, informed consent problem such as lack of item, to prompt or mandatory restric through electronic medical record quality control system, baning apply for a blood transfusion and discharge process until meeting the requirements mentioned above. Results From 2015 to 2020, the qualified medical records showed an increasing trend year by year(P＜0.05).The qualified rate of blood transfusion medical records in non-surgical departments (96.33%) was higher than that in surgical departments (88.90%). After the intervention of medical record quality control system in 2020, there was a significant improvement as compared with the previous five years' records (P＜0.01). Conclusions The quality of clinical blood transfusion records can be improved effectively by monitoring the whole process of blood transfusion records through the information system.
