With a high percentage of new energy scenarios, it has become a trend for flexible resources such as energy storage systems to participate in long-term planning. In this context, it is important to explore how energy storage systems are configured. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse the economics of energy storage and other resources to ensure that investments in energy storage and other resources are economically valuable under different future models. This paper firstly analyses the current situation of a high percentage of new energy in China, and secondly constructs a model for analysing the economics of flexible regulation resources such as energy storage. Under partial data based on the scenery storage project, the economic analysis under four models is derived, including cost and benefit analysis, investment benefit analysis, and break-even point analysis. Finally, the economic evaluation of investment in energy storage projects under different models is summarized based on the calculation results.It is concluded that different scenario models have different economic benefits, and the operation capacity of the four scenarios is higher than that of the existing models.

Abstract Background Cathepsin C (Cat C) functions as a central coordinator for activation of many serine proteases in inflammatory cells. It has been recognized that Cat C is responsible for neutrophil recruitment and production of chemokines and cytokines in many inflammatory diseases. However, Cat C expression and its functional role in the brain under normal conditions or in neuroinflammatory processes remain unclear. Our previous study showed that Cat C promoted the progress of brain demyelination in cuprizone-treated mice. The present study further investigated the Cat C expression and activity in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced neuroinflammation in vivo and in vitro. Methods C57BL/6 J mice were intraperitoneally injected with either 0.9% saline or lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 5 mg/kg). Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH) were used to analyze microglial activation, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, iNOS mRNAs expressions and cellular localization of Cat C in the brain. Nitrite assay was used to examine microglial activation in vitro; RT-PCR and ELISA were used to determine the expression and release of Cat C. Cat C activity was analyzed by cellular Cat C assay kit. Data were evaluated for statistical significance with paired t test. Results Cat C was predominantly expressed in hippocampal CA2 neurons in C57BL/6 J mice under normal conditions. Six hours after LPS injection, Cat C expression was detected in cerebral cortical neurons; whereas, twenty-four hours later, Cat C expression was captured in activated microglial cells throughout the entire brain. The duration of induced Cat C expression in neurons and in microglial cells was ten days and three days, respectively. In vitro, LPS, IL-1β and IL-6 treatments increased microglial Cat C expression in a dose-dependent manner and upregulated Cat C secretion and its activity. Conclusions Taken together, these data indicate that LPS and proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6 induce the expression, release and upregulate enzymatic activity of Cat C in microglial cells. Further investigation is required to determine the functional role of Cat C in the progression of neuroinflammation, which may have implications for therapeutics for the prevention of neuroinflammation-involved neurological disorders in the future.

Glycoside hydrolases (GHs), enzymes that break down glycosidic bonds in carbohydrates and between carbohydrates and non-carbohydrates, are prevalent in plants, animals, microorganisms, and other organisms. The tomato is a significant crop that contains the GH17 gene family. However, its role in tomatoes has yet to be fully investigated. In this study, we identified 43 GH17 genes from the tomato genome, distributed unevenly across 12 chromosomes. We further analyzed their gene structure, phylogenetic relationships, promoter elements, and expression patterns. The promoter element analysis indicated their potential roles in response to biotic and abiotic stresses as well as phytohormone effects on growth and development. The expression studies across different tomato tissues revealed that 10 genes were specifically expressed in floral organs, with SlA6 prominently expressed early during bud formation. By using CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing technology, SlA6 knockout plants were generated. Phenotypic characterization showed that pollen viability, pollen tube germination, fruit weight, and seed number were significantly reduced in the Sla6 mutant, but the soluble solids content (TSS) was significantly higher in the Sla6 mutant, suggesting that SlA6 affects pollen development and fruit quality. Tomato plants favor warmth, making them particularly susceptible to cold conditions, especially their reproductive development. Therefore, understanding how pollen reacts to cold stress is vital for selecting and improving cold-resistant tomato varieties. The programmed cell death (PCD) in the tapetum is particularly susceptible to cold temperatures which could hinder the degradation of the tapetal layer in the anthers, thus affecting pollen development. However, it is not clear yet how genes integral to tapetal degradation respond to cold stress. Here, we report that SlHB8, working upstream of the conserved genetic module DYT1-TDF1-AMS-MYB80, is crucial for regulating cold tolerance in tomato anthers. SlHB8 expression increases in the tapetum when exposed to low temperatures. CRISPR/Cas9-generated SlHB8-knockout mutants exhibit improved pollen cold tolerance due to the reduced temperature sensitivity of the tapetum. SlHB8 directly upregulates SlDYT1 and SlMYB80 by binding to their promoters. In normal anthers, cold treatment boosts SlHB8 levels, which then elevates the expression of genes like SlDYT1, SlTDF1, SlAMS, and SlMYB80; however, slhb8 mutants do not show this gene activation during cold stress, leading to a complete blockage of delayed tapetal programmed cell death (PCD). Furthermore, we found that SlHB8 can interact with both SlTDF1 and SlMYB80, suggesting the possibility that SlHB8 might regulate tapetal PCD at the protein level. Alveolar type 2 and club cells are part of the stem cell niche of the lung and their differentiation is required for pulmonary homeostasis and tissue regeneration. A disturbed crosstalk between fibroblasts and epithelial cells contributes to the loss of lung structure in chronic lung diseases. Therefore, it is important to understand how fibroblasts and lung epithelial cells interact during regeneration. Here, we analyzed the interaction of fibroblasts and the alveolar epithelium modeled in air–liquid interface cultures. Single-cell transcriptomics showed that cocultivation with fibroblasts leads to increased expression of type 2 markers in pneumocytes, activation of regulons associated with the maintenance of alveolar type 2 cells (e.g., Etv5), and transdifferentiation of club cells toward pneumocytes. This was accompanied by an intensified transepithelial barrier. Vice versa, the activation of NF-κB pathways and the CEBPB regulon and the expression of IL-6 and other differentiation factors (e.g., fibroblast growth factors) were increased in fibroblasts cocultured with epithelial cells. Recombinant IL-6 enhanced epithelial barrier formation. Therefore, in our coculture model, regulatory loops were identified by which lung epithelial cells mediate regeneration and differentiation of the alveolar epithelium in a cooperative manner with the mesenchymal compartment. Climate change mitigation and carbon neutrality are current hot topics. Forests, urban green spaces, and wetland ecosystems are recognized as important carbon sinks. The Yangtze River Delta region in Eastern China, which plays a pivotal role in China's economic and social development, is rich in such carbon-sink resources. There is, however, a lack of regional carbon data. The investigation of carbon storage and carbon densities of forest, urban green space, and wetland ecosystems is, therefore, of great importance. In this study, the forest resource management map (including wetland) and green space system planning map of Changzhou city, combined with a field investigation and laboratory experimental analysis, were used to estimate the carbon storages and carbon densities of the forest, urban green space, and wetland ecosystems in Changzhou city. The average carbon density and carbon storage in Changzhou were 83.34 ± 4.91 Mg C ha−1 and 11.30 ± 0.67 Tg C, respectively, of which soil accounted for 74%, plants accounted for 25%, and litter accounted for less than 1%. The forest ecosystem contributed the most to the carbon pool (72%), with the green space ecosystem and the wetland ecosystem each accounting for 14% of the carbon pools. Clearly, the forest, green space, and wetland ecosystems in Changzhou city have a large carbon storage capacity. The rainfall intensity, slope, and underground pore density are major factors affecting the soil erosion of maize‐covered karst slopes. We studied the erosion process of maize‐covered karst slopes and the influencing mechanism of soil erosion on these slopes under different rainfall intensities, slopes, and underground pore density via simulated rainfall tests. The results are as follows: (1) No runoff was observed on the slope surface under light rainfall (30 mm hr−1); instead, subsurface flow was predominant. However, runoff from the surface and subsurface flows under moderate rainfall (60 mm hr−1) increased with the rainfall intensity. The average surface runoff under extreme rainfall (90 mm hr−1) was 2.3‐times that under moderate rainfall. In addition, the average subsurface runoff under extreme rainfall was 1.6‐ and 3.5‐times that under moderate rainfall and light rainfall, respectively. The total amounts of surface and subsurface soil losses increased as the rainfall intensity increased. The surface and subsurface soil losses from light to moderate and extreme rainfall events increased by 258% and 151%, respectively. The soil loss from the surface was 5.3‐times greater than that from the subsurface, indicating that the erosion of maize‐covered karst slopes mainly occurs on the surface and that the subsurface loss is relatively small. (2) As the slope angle increased, the runoff, sediment yield, and proportion of erosion on the surface increased, and vice versa. (3) The subsurface runoff and sediment yield increased as the underground pore density increased, while the opposite occurred on the surface. Multiple regression analysis showed that the rainfall intensity is the most critical factor affecting the soil erosion of maize ‐covered slopes in karst areas, followed by the slope, while the influence of the underground pore density is small. The ability to quickly and non-destructively monitor the cadmium (Cd) content in agricultural crops is the basic premise of effective prevention and control of Cd contamination in agricultural products. Hyperspectral technology provides a solution for this issue. The potential capability for the spectral prediction of the Cd content in the leaves of pepper and eggplant in the field was explored, and a spectral prediction model of the Cd content in these leaves was established. In this study, based on the indoor spectrum, the sensitive wavebands for predicting the Cd content in leaves were determined preliminarily by correlation analysis. Partial least squares regression (PLSR) and support vector machine regression (SVMR) were used to establish spectral prediction models, and the final sensitive wavebands were determined by the size of the model index. The results show that the SVMR model exhibited higher prediction accuracy than the PLSR model. The RPDp (relative percent different of prediction set) values of the best SVMR prediction models for the pepper leaves and the eggplant leaves were 1.82 and 1.49, respectively. The values of Rp2 (coefficient of determination of prediction set), which can quantitatively estimate the Cd content in leaves, were 0.897 (p < 0.01) and 0.726 (p < 0.01), respectively. This study demonstrated that the leaf spectra of pepper and eggplant in the field can be used to predict the Cd content in leaves, providing a reference for monitoring the Cd content in the fruits of pepper and eggplant in the future. A study by Tsvetkov et al. recently published a proposed novel form of copper-induced cell death in Science; however, few studies have looked into the possible mechanism in soft tissue sarcoma (STS). Herein, this study sought to investigate the function of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in the development of tumor-associated immune cells and the prognosis of sarcoma. Herein, this study aimed to explore the role of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in the development, tumor-associated immune cells, and the prognosis of sarcoma. Methods: The prognostic model was established via the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm as well as multivariate Cox regression analysis. The stromal scores, immune scores, ESTIMA scores, and tumor purity of sarcoma patients were evaluated by the ESTIMATE algorithm. Functional analyses were performed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of immune cell infiltration and the prognosis of CRGs in sarcoma. Results: Two molecular subgroups with different CRG expression patterns were recognized, which showed that patients with a higher immune score and more active immune status were prone to have better prognostic survival. Moreover, GO and KEGG analyses showed that these differentially expressed CRGs were mainly enriched in metabolic/ions-related signaling pathways, indicating that CRGs may have impacts on the immune cell infiltration and prognosis of sarcoma via regulating the bioprocess of mitochondria and consequently affecting the immune microenvironment. The expression levels of CRGs were closely correlated to the immunity condition and prognostic survival of sarcoma patients. Conclusions: The interaction between cuproptosis and immunity in sarcoma may provide a novel insight into the study of molecular mechanisms and candidate biomarkers for the prognosis, resulting in effective treatments for sarcoma patients. Acute lung injury (ALI) is a severe form of sepsis that is associated with a high rate of morbidity and death in critically ill individuals. The emergence of ALI is the result of several factors at work. Case mortality rates might range from 40% to 70%. Researchers have discovered that epigenetic alterations are important in the pathophysiology of ALI and that using epigenetic inhibitors may help reduce symptoms. In embryonic development, circadian rhythm, the cell cycle, and cancer, methylation of m6A seems to be relevant all along the way. According to recent research, posttranscriptional methylation is a key player in the development of alveolar lymphoma. In this study, we clustered ALI based on m6A-related factors, analyzed different classes of immune cell enrichment and inflammatory cytokine expression, screened clustered differential genes for ALI to construct coexpression networks, screened key ALI genes potentially regulated by m6A modifications, and then typed the disease based on key genes to compare the consistency of different clustering results. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease characterized by persistent colon inflammation. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation is one of the most prevalent RNA modifications with key roles in both normal and illness, but m6A methylation in ulcerative colitis is unknown. This research investigated m6A methylation in UC. We examined the expression of known m6A RNA methylation regulators in UC using the Gene Expression Omnibus database (GEO database). First, we used m6A regulators to examine m6A change in UC samples. These two patient groups were created by clustering three m6A gene expression datasets. These genes were then utilized to build an m6A gene network using WGCNA and PPI. These networks were built using differentially expressed genes. The 12 m6A regulators were found to be dispersed throughout the chromosome. The study's data were then connected, revealing positive or negative relationships between genes or signaling pathways. Then, PCA of the 12 m6A-regulated genes indicated that the two patient groups could be discriminated in both PC1 and PC2 dimensions. The ssGSEA algorithm found that immune invading cells could be easily distinguished across diverse patient groups. Both groups had varied levels of popular cytokines. The differential gene analysis of the two samples yielded 517 genes like FTO and RFX7. It found 9 hub genes among 121 genes in the blue module, compared their expression in two groups of samples, and found that the differences in expression of these 9 genes were highly significant. The identification of 9 possible m6A methylation-dependent gene regulatory networks suggests that m6A methylation is involved in UC pathogenesis. Treatment of cancer in humans requires a thorough understanding of the multiple pathways by which it develops. Recent studies suggest that nuclear receptor coactivator 4 (NCOA4) may be a predictive biomarker for renal cancer. In the present work, TCGA, GEPIA, and several bioinformatics approaches were used to analyze the NCOA4 expression patterns, prognostic relevance, and association between NCOA4 and clinicopathological features and immune cell infiltration. We investigated NCOA4 expression in malignancies. Low NCOA4 expression was associated with poor overall survival in individuals with malignancies such as cholangiocarcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma, and clear cell renal carcinoma. We also analyzed NCOA4 DNA methylation in normal and primary tumor tissues and investigated possible functional pathways underlying NCOA4-mediated oncogenesis. Dynamic changes in metabolites may affect liver disease progression, and provide new methods for predicting liver damage. We used ultra‐performance liquid chromatography–mass spectroscopy to assess serum metabolites in healthy controls (HC), and patients with acute hepatitis E (AHE) or hepatitis E virus acute liver failure (HEV‐ALF). The principal component analysis, partial least squares discriminant analysis, and discriminant analysis of orthogonal projections to latent structures models illustrated significant differences in the metabolite components between AHE patients and HCs, or between HEV‐ALF and AHE patients. In pathway enrichment analysis, we further identified two altered pathways, including linoleic acid metabolism and phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan biosynthesis, when comparing AHE patients with HCs. Linoleic acid metabolism and porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism pathways were significantly different in HEV‐ALF when compared with AHE patients. The discriminative performances of differential metabolites showed that taurocholic acid, glycocholic acid, glycochenodeoxycholate‐3‐sulfate, and docosahexaenoic acid could be used to distinguish HEV‐ALF from AHE patients. The serum levels of glycocholic acid, taurocholic acid, deoxycholic acid glycine conjugate, and docosahexaenoic acid were associated with the prognosis of HEV‐ALF patients. Few studies have focused on the effect of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection on gut microbiota. To explore the relationship between changes in gut microbiota and inflammatory factors and viral load, we conducted a comparative study of 33 patients with acute hepatitis E (AHE) patients and 25 healthy controls (HCs) using high‐throughput 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid gene sequencing. Shannon and Simpson's indices showed no significant differences in bacterial diversity between the AHE and HCs groups. Proteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, and Enterobacteriaceae were most abundant in the AHE group, which contributed to the difference between the gut microbiota of the AHE and HCs groups, and the same difference between the HEV‐RNA‐positive and HEV‐RNA‐negative groups. Functional prediction analysis showed that ribosome, purine metabolism, and two‐component system were the top three pathways. Compared with the AHE group with normal interferon (IFN)‐γ, Proteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, Xanthomonadaceae, and Enterobacteriaceae were more abundant in the high‐IFN‐γ group. The abundance of Gammaproteobacteria was positively correlated with the level of serum alanine transaminase and total bilirubin. The abundance of Gammaproteobacteria could discriminate AHE patients from HCs, and could better predict the severity of AHE patients. We believe that our findings will contribute toward a novel treatment strategy for AHE. Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection has many extrahepatic manifestations as well as liver symptoms. Multiple studies have shown that HEV infection has symptoms related to the nervous system, kidneys, cryoglobulinemia, hematological system, reproductive system, autoimmunity and pancreas. Hence, HEV infection should be considered as a systemic disease, rather than solely a liver disease. The extrahepatic manifestations induced by different genotypes of HEV vary. The severity of these diseases does not necessarily correlate with the severity of HEV infection, and even asymptomatic HEV infection may trigger and cause systemic diseases. Patients with systemic manifestations of HEV infection should have priority for antiviral therapy, which could alleviate or improve the extrahepatic manifestations related to HEV infection. However, the extrahepatic manifestations caused by different genotypes of HEV and their corresponding mechanisms have not been clearly identified. Nutrient losses from sloping farmland in karst areas lead to the decline in land productivity and nonpoint source pollution. A specially tailored steel channel with an adjustable slope and underground hole fissures was used to simulate the microenvironment of the "dual structure" of the surface and underground of sloping farmland in a karst area. The artificial rainfall simulation method was used to explore the surface and underground runoff characteristics and nutrient losses from sloping farmland under different rainfall intensities. The effect of rainfall intensity on the nutrient loss of farmland on karst sloping land was clarified. The results showed that the surface was the main route of runoff and nutrient loss during the rainy season on sloping farmland in karst areas. The influence of rainfall intensity on the nutrients in surface runoff was more substantial than that on underground runoff nutrients. Nutrient loss was more likely to occur underground than on the surface. The losses of total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and total potassium in surface and underground runoff initially increased and then gradually stabilized with the extension of rainfall duration and increased with increasing rainfall intensity and the amount of nutrient runoff. The output of nutrients through surface runoff accounted for a high proportion of the total, and underground runoff was responsible for a low proportion. Although the amount of nutrients output by underground runoff was small, it could directly cause groundwater pollution. Background: Globus pharyngeus is common and has a low cure rate. Its etiology is complex and reported to be associated with laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). However, some patients with globus do not exhibit any reflux symptoms or respond to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) treatments. The purpose of this study was to clarify the related risk factors of these patients with a final objective of improving the curative effect.Methods: Forty two patients afflicted with globus pharyngeus (G group) and 38 patients without globus pharyngeus (NG group) were included in this study. According to the laryngopharyngeal Reflux Symptom Index and the response to PPIs treatments, the patients were further divided into reflux groups (G-R, NG-R) and non-reflux groups (G-NR, NG-NR). High Resolution Manometry (HRM) was performed to assess esophageal motility. Questionnaires, including categories such as life exposure factors, were conducted.Results: a) The average resting and residual pressures of the upper esophageal sphincter (UES) in the G-NR group was higher than in the NG-NR and NG-R groups (P < 0.05). b) The average resting and residual pressures of the lower esophageal sphincter showed no differences between the G-NR group and the NG-NR group (P > 0.05). c) The esophageal distal contractile integral score of the G-NR group was not different from the NG-NR group (P > 0.05). d) Compared to the NG-NR group, the G-NR group showed higher incidence of stress, smoking, drinking, high salt and anxiety (P < 0.05).Conclusions: Globus pharyngeus without LPR may occur due to high UES pressure. Background and Purpose: PGE2 inhibits cytokine generation from human lung macrophages. However, the EP receptor that mediates this beneficial anti-inflammatory effect of PGE2 has not been defined. The aim of this study was to identify the EP receptor by which PGE2 inhibits cytokine generation from human lung macrophages. This was determined by using recently developed EP receptor ligands.Experimental Approach: The effects of PGE2 and EP-selective agonists on LPS-induced generation of TNF-α and IL-6 from macrophages were evaluated. The effects of EP2 -selective (PF-04852946, PF-04418948) and EP4 -selective (L-161,982, CJ-042794) receptor antagonists on PGE2 responses were studied. The expression of EP receptor subtypes by human lung macrophages was determined by RT-PCR.Key Results: PGE2 inhibited LPS-induced and Streptococcus pneumoniae-induced cytokine generation from human lung macrophages. Analysis of mRNA levels indicated that macrophages expressed EP2 and EP4 receptors. L-902,688 (EP4 receptor-selective agonist) was considerably more potent than butaprost (EP2 receptor-selective agonist) as an inhibitor of TNF-α generation from macrophages. EP2 receptor-selective antagonists had marginal effects on the PGE2 inhibition of TNF-α generation, whereas EP4 receptor-selective antagonists caused rightward shifts in the PGE2 concentration-response curves.Conclusions and Implications: These studies demonstrate that the EP4 receptor is the principal receptor that mediates the anti-inflammatory effects of PGE2 on human lung macrophages. Assessment of vital signs is an essential part of surveillance of critically ill patients to detect condition changes and clinical deterioration. While most modern electronic medical records allow for vitals to be recorded in a structured format, the frequency and quality of what is electronically stored may differ from how often these measures are actually recorded. We created a tool that extracts blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, respiratory rate, blood oxygen saturation, and pain level from nursing and other clinical notes recorded in the course of inpatient care to supplement structured vital sign data. Abstract: In this paper, we report the hydrothermal synthesis, structural characterization and electrochemical properties of uniform α-Fe2O3 microspheres. In the synthetic procedure, the surfactant, sodium citrate, was found to be crucial to the formation of α-Fe2O3 microspheres. In addition, by simply varying the concentration of sodium citrate, cylindrical α-Fe2O3 microstructures could be readily obtained. On the basis of time-dependent experimental result, a possible formation mechanism of the α-Fe2O3 microspheres was proposed. The as-obtained α-Fe2O3 microspheres were then evaluated as an anode material for lithium ion batteries. And the result shows that the material exhibited an initial discharge capacity as high as 1453.4mAhg−1. After 50 cycles, the reversible discharge capacity was 489.5mAhg−1, which was much higher than that of commercial graphite. This work provides an additional strategy to prepare self-assembled structures with tailored morphology. And the results are helpful to further understand the mechanism of self-organization and expand the applications of iron oxide micromaterials. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Introduction: The variation of organic carbon content in spoil heaps is closely related to improving soil structure, maintaining soil fertility, and regulating soil carbon cycling balance. Analyzing the soil organic carbon content and related driving factors during the natural vegetation restoration process of spoil heaps is of great significance for promoting the accumulation of soil organic carbon in the spoil heaps., Methods: we selected spoil heaps with the same number of years of restoration to research the variations in soil organic carbon components under different vegetation types (grassland: GL, shrubland: SL, secondary forest: SF) and compared the results with those on bare land (BL)., Results: Our results showed that vegetation type and soil depth significantly affect the content of soil organic carbon components. There was no difference in soil organic carbon components between SF and SL, but both were considerably superior to GL and BL ( p <0.05), and the particulate organic carbon (POC) and light fraction organic carbon (LFOC) contents of SL were the highest. A significant positive linear correlation existed between SOC and active organic carbon components. Pearson's correlation and redundancy analysis showed that the available potassium (AK) and total nitrogen (TN) contents and gravel content (GC) in the BL soil significantly impacted soil organic carbon. When vegetation is present, TN, total phosphorus (TP), and Fine root biomass (FRB) significantly affect soil organic carbon. Structural equation modelling (SEM) shows that AK and soil moisture content (SMC) directly affect the organic carbon composition content of BL, When there is vegetation cover, fine root biomass (FRB) had the largest total effect in the SEM. Soil bulk density (BD) has a negative impact on soil organic carbon, especially in the presence of vegetation., Conclusion: These findings suggest that vegetation restoration can significantly increase soil organic carbon content, FRB, AK, and TN play important roles in enhancing soil organic carbon. Infectious diseases are the leading cause of death in both adults and children, with respiratory infections being the leading cause of death. A growing body of evidence suggests that bacterially released extracellular membrane vesicles play an important role in bacterial pathogenicity by targeting and (de)regulating host cells through the delivery of nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Among the many factors contributing to bacterial pathogenicity are the outer membrane vesicles produced by the bacteria themselves. Bacterial membrane vesicles are being studied in more detail because of their potential role as deleterious mediators in bacterial infections.
