Simple Summary: Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a typical inflammation-associated cancer and epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor (EGFR) mutations are the most common driver mutations of NSCLC. The aim of our study was to evaluate the impacts of the proinflammatory cytokine, interleukin (IL)-17A, on EGFR-mediated progression of NSCLC. In NSCLC cells with mutant EGFR, we found that the IL-17A/IL-17 receptor C (IL-17RC) axis enhanced phosphorylation of EGFR and Met, thereby promoting proliferation and resistance to EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). In NSCLC cells with wild-type (WT) EGFR, we found that the IL-17A/IL-17RC axis enhanced EGF-induced EGFR activation and cell proliferation through causing an impairment of EGF-induced EGFR lysosomal degradation. Our results indicated that developing therapeutic strategies against IL-17A/IL-17RC would be valuable for NSCLC treatment. The proinflammatory cytokine, interleukin (IL)-17A, and IL-17A-producing cells were reported to be elevated in the tumor microenvironment and peripheral blood of NSCLC patients and to be correlated with tumor progression and poor prognoses. However, the pathophysiological role of IL-17A in NSCLC remains unclear, although some studies suggested its involvement in cancer cell invasion and metastasis. Herein, we observed that expressions of IL-17A and its receptor, IL-17 receptor C (IL-17RC), were elevated in LUAD tissues and were correlated with poor survival in different lung cancer cohorts. In LUAD cells with mutant EGFR, the IL-17A/IL-17RC axis was shown to enhance phosphorylation of EGFR and Met, thereby promoting proliferation and resistance to EGFR-TKIs such as afatinib. Sparc/osteonectin, cwcv, and kazal-like domains proteoglycan 1 (SPOCK1) has been reported to play an oncogenic role in certain cancer types; however, the role of SPOCK1 in the progression of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remains elusive. Here, higher SPOCK1 transcript and protein levels were observed in ccRCC tissues compared to normal tissues and correlated with advanced clinical stages, larger tumor sizes, and lymph node and distal metastases. Knockdown and overexpression of SPOCK1 in ccRCC cells led to decreased and increased cell clonogenic and migratory/invasive abilities in vitro as well as lower and higher tumor growth and invasion in vivo, respectively. Mechanistically, the gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) database was used to identify the gene set of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) pathways enriched in ccRCC samples with high SPOCK1 expression. Further mechanistic investigations revealed that SPOCK1 triggered the Snail/Slug–matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 axis to promote EMT and cell motility. Clinical ccRCC samples revealed SPOCK1 to be an independent prognostic factor for overall survival (OS), and positive correlations of SPOCK1 with MMP-2 and mesenchymal-related gene expression levels were found. We observed that patients with SPOCK1high/MMP2high tumors had the shortest OS times compared to others. Long noncoding (lnc)RNAs are reported to be key regulators of tumor progression, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The lncRNA long intergenic noncoding RNA 00673 (LINC00673) was indicated to play an important role in HCC progression, but the impacts of genetic variants (single-nucleotide polymorphisms, SNPs) of LINC00673 on HCC remain unclear. A TaqMan allelic discrimination assay was performed to analyze the genotypes of three tagging SNPs, viz., rs9914618 G > A, rs6501551 A > G, and rs11655237 C > T, of LINC00673 in 783 HCC patients and 1197 healthy subjects. Associations of functional SNPs of LINC00673 with HCC susceptibility and clinicopathologic variables were analyzed by logistic regression models. After stratification by confounding factor, we observed that elderly patients (≥60 years) with the LINC00673 rs9914618 A allele had an increased risk of developing HCC under a codominant model (p = 0.025) and dominant model (p = 0.047). Moreover, elderly patients carrying the GA + AA genotype of rs9914618 exhibited a higher risk of having lymph node metastasis compared to those who were homozygous for the major allele (p = 0.013). Genotype screening of rs9914618 in HCC cell lines showed that cells carrying the AA genotype expressed higher LINC00673 levels compared to the cells carrying the GG genotype. Further analyses of clinical datasets from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) showed that LINC00673 expressions were upregulated in HCC tissues compared to normal tissues, and were correlated with advanced clinical stages and poorer prognoses. To alleviate the impact of fake news on our society, predicting the popularity of fake news posts on social media is a crucial problem worthy of study. However, most related studies on fake news emphasize detection only. In this paper, we focus on the issue of fake news influence prediction, i.e., inferring how popular a fake news post might become on social platforms. To achieve our goal, we propose a comprehensive framework, MUFFLE, which captures multi-modal dynamics by encoding the representation of news-related social networks, user characteristics, and content in text. The attention mechanism developed in the model can provide explainability for social or psychological analysis. To examine the effectiveness of MUFFLE, we conducted extensive experiments on real-world datasets. The experimental results show that our proposed method outperforms both state-of-the-art methods of popularity prediction and machine-based baselines in top-k NDCG and hit rate. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant tumor of the oral cavity, and long non-coding (lnc)RNA of metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) was recently reported to play a crucial role in OSCC development and progression. However, potential effects of genetic variants of MALAT1 on the development of OSCC are still unclear. Herein, we performed a case-control study in 1350 patients with OSCC and 1199 healthy controls to evaluate the association between functional single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of MALAT1 and OSCC susceptibility, as well as its clinicopathologic characteristics. A TaqMan allelic discrimination assay was used to genotype four tagging SNPs, viz., rs3200401 C>T, rs619586 A>G, rs1194338 C>A, and rs7927113 G>A, and results showed that the MALAT1 rs3200401 T allele had a lower risk of OSCC (adjusted odds ratio (AOR): 0.779, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.632~0.960, p =0.019) and a higher risk of developing moderately (grade II)/poorly (grade III) differentiated OSCC (AOR: 1.508-fold, 95% CI: 1.049~2.169, p =0.027) under a dominant model. According to environmental carcinogen exposure, patients with a betel quid-chewing habit who carried the T allele of rs3200401 more easily developed high-grade (II/III) OSCC (AOR: 1.588, 95% CI: 1.055~2.390, p =0.027), and patients with the same genotype but who did not chew betel quid had a lower risk of developing lymph node metastasis (AOR: 0.437, 95% CI: 0.255~0.749, p =0.003). In addition to rs3200401, the rs619586 AG/GG genotype was associated with increased risks of developing advanced stages (III+IV) and larger tumor sizes (>T2) compared to the AA genotype, especially in the subgroup of betel quid chewers. Furthermore, analyses of clinical datasets revealed that the MALAT1 expression level was upregulated in OSCC compared to normal tissues, especially in the betel quid-chewing population. These results indicated involvement of MALAT1 SNPs rs3200401 and rs619586 in the development of OSCC and support the interaction between MALAT1 gene polymorphisms and the environmental carcinogen as a predisposing factor for OSCC progression. Wnt/β‐catenin signaling is frequently activated in advanced prostate cancer and contributes to therapy resistance and metastasis. However, activating mutations in the Wnt/β‐catenin pathway are not common in prostate cancer, suggesting alternative regulations may exist. Here, we report that the expression of endothelial cell‐specific molecule 1 (ESM1), a secretory proteoglycan, is positively associated with prostate cancer stemness and progression by promoting Wnt/β‐catenin signaling. Elevated ESM1 expression correlates with poor overall survival and metastasis. Accumulation of nuclear ESM1, instead of cytosolic or secretory ESM1, supports prostate cancer stemness by interacting with the ARM domain of β‐catenin to stabilize β‐catenin–TCF4 complex and facilitate the transactivation of Wnt/β‐catenin signaling targets. Accordingly, activated β‐catenin in turn mediates the nuclear entry of ESM1. Our results establish the significance of mislocalized ESM1 in driving metastasis in prostate cancer by coordinating the Wnt/β‐catenin pathway, with implications for its potential use as a diagnostic or prognostic biomarker and as a candidate therapeutic target in prostate cancer. A disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS) family are widely implicated in tissue remodeling events manifested in cancer development. ADAMTS1, the most fully characterized ADAMTS, plays conflicting roles in different cancer types; however, the role of ADAMTS1 in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remains unclear. Herein, we found that ADAMTS1 is highly expressed in RCC tissues compared to normal renal tissues, and its expression was correlated with an advanced stage and a poor prognosis of RCC patients. In vitro, we observed higher expression of ADAMTS1 in metastatic (m)RCC cells compared to primary cells, and manipulation of ADAMTS1 expression affected cell invasion and clonogenicity. Results from protease array showed that ADAMTS1 is modulated by melatonin through mechanisms independent of the MT1 receptor in mRCC cells, and overexpression of ADAMTS1 relieved the invasion/clonogenicity and growth/metastasis inhibition imposed by melatonin treatment in vitro and in an orthotopic xenograft model. The human microRNA (miR) OneArray showed that miR‐181d and miR‐let‐7f were induced by melatonin and, respectively, targeted the 3'‐UTR and non‐3'‐UTR of ADAMTS1 to suppress its expression and mRCC invasive ability. Clinically, RCC patients with high levels of miR‐181d or miR‐let‐7f and a low level of ADAMTS1 had the most favorable prognoses. In addition, ubiquitin/proteasome‐mediated degradation of ADAMTS1 can also be triggered by melatonin. Together, our study indicates that ADAMTS1 may be a useful biomarker for predicting RCC progression. Abstract: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies in the world, especially, in eastern Asia, and its prognosis is poor once metastasis occurs. Niclosamide, a US Food and Drug Administration‐approved antihelmintic drug, was shown to inhibit the growth of various cancers including HCC, but the effect of niclosamide on cell motility and the underlying mechanism have not yet been completely defined. The present study demonstrated that niclosamide, at 0–40 nM, concentration‐dependently inhibited wound closure and the migratory/invasive capacities of human Huh7 and SK‐Hep‐1 HCC cells without exhibiting cytotoxicity. A protease array analysis showed that CD10 was dramatically downregulated in Huh7 cells after niclosamide treatment. Western blot and flow cytometric assays further demonstrated that CD10 expression was concentration‐dependently downregulated in Huh7 and SK‐Hep‐1 cells after niclosamide treatment. Mechanistic investigations found that niclosamide suppressed Twist‐mediated CD10 transactivation. Moreover, knockdown of CD10 expression by CD10 small interfering RNA in HCC cells suppressed cell migratory/invasive abilities and overexpression of CD10 relieved the migration inhibition induced by niclosamide. Taken together, our results indicated that niclosamide could be a potential agent for inhibiting metastasis of HCC, and CD10 is an important target of niclosamide for suppressing the motility of HCC cells. Cancer cells encounter metabolic stresses such as hypoxia and nutrient limitations because they grow and divide more quickly than their normal counterparts. In response to glucose restriction, we found that nuclear translocation of the glycolic enzyme, pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2), helped cancer cells survive under the metabolic stress. Restriction of glucose stimulated AMPK activation and resulted in co-translocation of AMPK and PKM2 through Ran-mediated nuclear transport. Nuclear PKM2 subsequently bound to Oct4 and promoted the expression of cancer stemness-related genes, which might enrich the cancer stem cell population under the metabolic stress. Nuclear PKM2 was also capable of promoting cancer metastasis in an orthotopic xenograft model. In summary, we found that cytosolic AMPK helped PKM2 carry out its nonmetabolic functions in the nucleus under glucose restriction and that nuclear PKM2 promoted cancer stemness and metastasis. KH-type splicing regulatory protein (KSRP) is a single-strand RNA binding protein which regulates mRNA stability either by binding to AU-rich elements (AREs) of mRNA 3′UTR or by facilitating miRNA biogenesis to target mRNA. Unlike its well-characterized function at the molecular level in maintaining RNA homeostasis, the role of KSRP in cancer progression remains largely unknown. Here we investigate the role of KSRP in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We first examined KSRP expression by immunohistochemistry in a cohort containing 196 NSCLC patients and observed a strong positive correlation between KSRP expression and survival of NSCLC patients. Multivariate analysis further identified KSRP as an independent prognostic factor. Manipulating KSRP expression significantly affected in vitro cell mobility and in vivo metastatic ability of NSCLC cells. Microarray analysis identified an ARE-containing gene, EGR3 , as a downstream effector of KSRP in NSCLC. Interestingly, we found that KSRP decreased EGR3 mRNA stability in an ARE-independent manner. By screening KSRP-regulated miRNAs in NSCLC cells, we further found that miR-23a directly binds to EGR3 3′UTR, reducing EGR3 expression and thereby inhibiting NSCLC cell mobility. This letter analyzes performance and reliability of inverted staggered type amorphous indium–gallium–zinc oxide devices in a moist environment with H2O molecules in the passivation layer. There is a negative threshold voltage shift ( \vartriangle ~\textV\mathrm {{th}} ) in the saturation region (VD = 10 V), which increases with decreasing channel length. We propose that this is explained by the drain-induced barrier lowering that is due to the H2O molecules. Moreover, a hydrogen bonding model under bias stress is also proposed, in contrast to the conventional H2O doping model. Simple Summary: Targeting epigenetic alterations in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) provides therapeutic options in addition to traditional treatments. The aim of our study was to evaluate the potential of targeting histone methyltransferase G9a in the development of a therapeutic target. We confirmed the prognostic values of mRNA and protein levels of G9a expression in HCC respectively from public database and tissue microarray. We also confirmed the aggressive phenotypes supported by G9a in both HBV+ and HBV− HCC cells. The identification of a regulation axis between liver-specific tumor suppressor miR-122 and G9a further supported the important roles of G9a during the tumorigenesis and progression of HCC. Combination of lower miR-122 and higher G9a levels may provide prognostic potential for poor clinical outcomes and therapeutic potential for epigenetic targeting therapies. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for the majority of primary liver cancers, which is the second most lethal tumor worldwide. Epigenetic deregulation is a common trait observed in HCC. Recently, increasing evidence suggested that the G9a histone methyltransferase might be a novel regulator of HCC development. However, several HCC cell lines were recently noted to have HeLa cell contamination or to have been derived from non-hepatocellular origin, suggesting that functional validation of G9a in proper HCC models is still required. Herein, we first confirmed that higher G9a messenger RNA and protein expression levels were correlated with poor overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates of HCC patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset and our recruited HCC cohort. In an in vitro functional evaluation of HCC cells, HCC36 (hepatitis B virus-positive (HBV+) and Mahlavu (HBV−)) cells showed that G9a participated in promoting cell proliferation, colony formation, and migration/invasion abilities. Moreover, orthotopic inoculation of G9a-depleted Mahlavu cells in NOD-SCID mice also resulted in a significantly decreased tumor burden compared to the control group. Furthermore, after surveying microRNA (miRNA; miR) prediction databases, we identified the liver-specific miR-122 as a G9a-targeting miRNA. In various HCC cell lines, we observed that miR-122 expression levels tended to be inversely correlated to G9a expression levels. In clinical HCC specimens, a significant inverse correlation of miR-122 and G9a mRNA expression levels was also observed. Functionally, the colony formation and invasive ability were attenuated in miR-122-overexpressing HCC cells. HCC patients with low miR-122 and high G9a expression levels had the worst OS and DFS rates compared to others. Interleukin (IL)-17A secreted by T-helper 17 lymphocytes is a proinflammatory cytokine that plays an important role in cancer pathogenesis. The present study was designed to investigate the possible associations among IL-17A genetic polymorphisms, EGFR mutation status, and the clinicopathologic development of LUAD in a Taiwanese population. Our study population consisted of 277 LUAD patients harboring the wild-type (WT) EGFR or a mutant (MT) EGFR. Four single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of IL-17A in the peripheral blood, including rs8193036(C > T), rs8193037(G > A), rs2275913(G > A), and rs3748067(C > T) loci, were genotyped using a TaqMan allelic discrimination assay. Our results showed that none of these IL-17A SNPs were correlated with the risk of developing mutant EGFR. However, patients with a smoking habit who carried the GA genotype of IL-17A rs8193037 had a significantly lower susceptibility to EGFR mutations (adjusted odds ratio (AOR): 0.225; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.056~0.900, p = 0.035). Moreover, compared to individuals carrying the CC genotype of rs8193036 at IL-17A, T-allele carriers (CT + TT) were at higher risk of developing more-advanced stages (stage III or IV; p = 0.020). In the WT EGFR subgroup analysis, IL-17A rs8193036 T-allele carriers had higher risks of developing an advanced tumor stage (p = 0.016) and lymphatic invasion (p = 0.049). Further analyses of clinical datasets revealed correlations of IL-17 receptor A (IL-17RA) and IL-17RC expressions with a poor prognosis of LUAD patients with a smoking history or with higher levels of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes. In conclusion, our results suggested that two functional promoter polymorphisms of IL-17A, i.e., rs8193036 and rs8193037, were associated with the EGFR mutation status and progression in LUAD patients, indicating that these two genetic variants might act as possible markers for predicting patients' clinical prognoses. Lung adenocarcinoma (LADC) is a major subtype of lung cancer, particularly among populations of East Asia. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is the most frequently mutated oncogene promoting LADC progression and can serve as a therapeutic target in LADC. The tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMP)-3 is a major regulator of extracellular matrix turnover via targeting of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), and thus, plays a critical role in tumor development and progression. The purpose of this study was to investigate potential associations among TIMP-3 genetic polymorphisms, EGFR statuses, and cancer clinicopathologic development in patients with LADC. In this study, 277 LADC patients with different EGFR statuses were recruited to dissect the allelic discrimination of TIMP-3 -1296 T>C (rs9619311), TIMP3 249T>C (rs9862), and TIMP3 261C>T (rs11547635) polymorphisms using a TaqMan allelic discrimination assay. Our data showed that compared to those LADC patients with wild-type CC homozygotes of TIMP-3 rs9862, patients harboring TT homozygotes of rs9862 were at a higher risk of developing mutant EGFR (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 2.530; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.230–5.205; p = 0.012), particularly the EGFR L858R point mutation (AOR = 2.975; 95% CI: 1.182–7.488; p = 0.021). Moreover, we observed that TIMP-3 TT homozygotes of rs9862 were correlated with the incidence of EGFR mutations in patients with a smoking habit (p = 0.045). Within male patients harboring a mutant EGFR, TIMP-3 rs9862 T (CT+TT) allele carriers were at higher risk of developing an advanced stage (p = 0.025) and lymph node metastasis (p = 0.043). Further analyses of clinical datasets revealed correlations of TIMP-3 expression with a favorable prognosis in patients with LADC. Monoamine oxidases (MAOs) including MAOA and MAOB are enzymes located on the outer membranes of mitochondria, which are responsible for catalyzing monoamine oxidation. Recently, increased level of MAOs were shown in several cancer types. However, possible roles of MAOs have not yet been elucidated in the progression and prognosis of colorectal carcinoma (CRC). We therefore analyzed the importance of MAOs in CRC by an in silico analysis and tissue microarrays. Several independent cohorts indicated that high expression of MAOB, but not MAOA, was correlated with a worse disease stage and poorer survival. In total, 203 colorectal adenocarcinoma cases underwent immunohistochemical staining of MAOs, and associations with clinicopathological parameters and patient outcomes were evaluated. We found that MAOB is highly expressed in CRC tissues compared to normal colorectal tissues, and its expression was significantly correlated with a higher recurrence rate and a poor prognosis. Moreover, according to the univariate and multivariate analyses, we found that MAOB could be an independent prognostic factor for overall survival and disease-free survival, and its prognostic value was better than T and N stage. Furthermore, significant positive and negative correlations of MAOB with mesenchymal-type and epithelial-type gene expressions were observed in CRC tissues. Demethoxycurcumin (DMC) is a curcumin analogue with better stability and higher aqueous solubility than curcumin after oral ingestion and has the potential to treat diverse cancers, including oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The aim of this study was to investigate the anticancer effects and underlying mechanisms of DMC against OSCC. We found that DMC suppressed cell proliferation via simultaneously inducing G2/M-phase arrest and cell apoptosis. Mechanistic investigations found that the downregulation of cellular IAP 1 (cIAP1)/X-chromosome-linked IAP (XIAP) and upregulation of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) were critical for DMC-induced caspase-8/-9/-3 activation and apoptotic cell death. Moreover, p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)1/2 were activated by DMC treatment in OSCC cells, and only the inhibition of p38 MAPK significantly abolished DMC-induced HO-1 expression and caspase-8/-9/-3 activation. The analyses of clinical datasets revealed that patients with head and neck cancers expressing high HO-1 and low cIAP1 had the most favorable prognoses. Furthermore, a combinatorial treatment of DMC with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor, gefitinib, significantly enhanced the inhibitory effect of gefitinib on the proliferation of OSCC cells. Overall, the current study supported a role for DCM as part of a therapeutic approach for OSCC through suppressing IAPs and activating the p38-HO-1 axis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The long noncoding (lnc)RNA, metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1), plays a crucial role in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, potential genetic variants (single nucleotide polymorphisms, SNPs) in MALAT1 that affect the susceptibility and progression of HCC have rarely been explored. Three tagging SNPs, viz., rs3200401 C > T, rs619586 A > G, and rs1194338 C > A, in MALAT1 were genotyped by a TaqMan allelic discrimination assay in 394 HCC patients and 1199 healthy controls. A stratified analysis showed that younger patients (<55 years) with the MALAT1 rs619586 G allele had a decreased risk of HCC under a codominant model (AOR = 0.289, 95% CI: 0.108–0.773, p = 0.013) and dominant model (AOR = 0.286, 95% CI: 0.107–0.765, p = 0.013). Female patients and patients with a smoking habit who carried the CA + AA genotype of rs1194338 had a lower risk of developing vascular invasion (p = 0.049) and a high Child–Pugh grade (B or C) (p = 0.036), respectively. Under the dominant model, smokers with the MALAT1 rs3200401 CT + TT genotype had a higher frequency of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (p = 0.034). Moreover, the aspartate aminotransferase was higher in patients with the rs3200401 CT + TT genotype. Furthermore, analyses of clinical datasets revealed that MALAT1 expression level was gradually unregulated during HCC development from normal liver, cirrhotic liver, dysplastic liver to HCC and correlated with poor survival rates in HCC patients, especially in the hepatitis virus-infected population. N-α-Acetyltransferase 10 protein (Naa10p) mediates N-terminal acetylation of nascent proteins. Oncogenic or tumor suppressive roles of Naa10p were reported in cancers. Here, we report an oncogenic role of Naa10p in promoting metastasis of osteosarcomas. Higher NAA10 transcripts were observed in metastatic osteosarcoma tissues compared to non-metastatic tissues and were also correlated with a worse prognosis of patients. Knockdown and overexpression of Naa10p in osteosarcoma cells respectively led to decreased and increased cell migratory/invasive abilities. Re-expression of Naa10p, but not an enzymatically inactive mutant, relieved suppression of the invasive ability in vitro and metastasis in vivo imposed by Naa10p-knockdown. According to protease array screening, we identified that matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 was responsible for the Naa10p-induced invasive phenotype. Naa10p was directly associated with MMP-2 protein through its acetyltransferase domain and maintained MMP-2 protein stability via NatA complex activity. MMP-2 expression levels were also significantly correlated with Naa10p levels in osteosarcoma tissues. Graphene has shown many attractive properties while the difficulties in the fabrication of high-quality graphene have been a significant bottleneck in its applications. Here we report the discovery of high-quality graphene obtained from the solidified equiatomic CrFeCoNiC high-entropy alloy. Graphite flakes can be peeled off from the surface of the as-cast CrFeCoNiC high-entropy alloy, and single or multilayer graphene can be further exfoliated. The mechanical properties of the graphene are investigated by an atomic force microscope, and the result confirms the discovery of high-quality graphene. The transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy are applied to further characterize the quality of the graphene and show that the graphene has high-quality with few defects, comparable to the graphene obtained from highly oriented pyrolytic graphite. The thermodynamic calculation is applied to investigate the solidification process of the high-entropy alloy and reveals the mechanism of the formation of graphite on the surface. Gastric cancer (GC) poses global challenges due to its difficult early diagnosis and drug resistance, necessitating the identification of early detection markers and understanding of oncogenic pathways for effective GC therapy. Endothelial cell-specific molecule 1 (ESM1), a secreted glycoprotein, is elevated in various cancers, but its role in GC remains controversial. In our study, ESM1 was elevated in GC tissues, and its concentration was correlated with progression and poorer patient prognosis in independent cohorts. Functionally, ESM1 expression promoted proliferation, anoikis resistance, and motility of GC cells, as well as tumor growth in PDOs and in GC xenograft models. Mechanistically, ESM1 expression triggered the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of GC cells by enhancing epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)/human EGFR 3 (HER3) association and activating the EGFR/HER3-Akt pathway. Additionally, angiopoietin-2 (ANGPT2) was found to be highly correlated with ESM1 and interplayed with Akt to induce the EMT and cancer progression. Use of a signal peptide deletion mutant (ESM1-19del) showed that the secreted form of ESM1 is crucial for its protumorigenic effects by activating the EGFR/HER3-Akt/ANGPT2 pathway to promote the EMT. Patients with high levels of both ESM1 and ANGPT2 had the poorest prognoses. Furthermore, therapeutic peptides successfully inhibited ESM1's induction of the aforementioned signals and motility of GC cells. Objective: To examine how mental health interplays with menopausal status in relation to sleep patterns and rest-activity rhythms (RARs) among middle-aged women., Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 87 women aged 45 to 60 years from community and a gynecology clinic in Taiwan. Participants wore actigraphy devices for 7 days and were also assessed with self-reported questionnaires. Hierarchical regression was used to examine the effects of menopausal status and mental health on sleep and RARs., Results: Perimenopausal and postmenopausal women had higher relative amplitude and interdaily stability of RARs than premenopausal women. There were no differences in actigraphy-based sleep parameters across menopausal statuses. There was no difference in depressive symptoms or loneliness across menopausal statuses. Higher levels of depressive symptoms were significantly associated with longer sleep latency ( β = 0.26, P = 0.022) and wake after sleep onset ( β = 0.28, P = 0.012), and lower sleep efficiency ( β = -0.30, P = 0.008) after adjusting for menopausal status and age. In addition, there was marginal significance of the positive association between loneliness and interdaily stability ( β = 0.18, P = 0.079). A moderating effect ( βmenopausal status*loneliness = -0.40, P = 0.025) showed that lonelier premenopausal women exhibited greater relative amplitude (RA) of rest-activity rhythms, but lonelier menopausal women had lower RA of RAR., Conclusion: Mental health plays an important role for middle-aged women with different menopausal statuses in relation to sleep patterns and RARs., Competing Interests: Financial disclosure/conflict of interest: None reported., (Copyright © 2023 by The Menopause Society.)

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most frequently encountered type of oral cancer. Histamine receptor H1 ( HRH1 ) was reported to play a crucial role in OSCC carcinogenesis, but impacts of genetic variants of HRH1 on OSCC remain unclear. Herein, we investigated the association between functional single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of HRH1 and OSCC susceptibility or clinicopathologic variables by logistic regression models. HRH1 genotypes at four loci (rs346074, rs346076, rs901865, and rs2606731) were analyzed by a TaqMan allelic discrimination assay, and we found that patients harboring HRH1 rs901865 T and rs346074 T alleles had a significantly lower risk of developing larger tumor sizes (>T2) under a dominant model. Based on the environmental carcinogen exposure status, we observed that HRH1 rs901865 polymorphic variants were also associated with a lower risk of developing more-advanced clinical stages (III or IV) in patients with a betel-quid-chewing habit. Moreover, genotype screening of rs901865 and rs346074 in OSCC cell lines showed that cells respectively carrying the CT and TT genotypes expressed lower HRH1 levels compared to cells carrying the CC genotype of rs901865 and rs346074. Furthermore, analyses of TCGA and GEO databases revealed that HRH1 expression levels were upregulated in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and OSCC tissues compared to normal tissues and were correlated with larger tumor sizes and poorer prognoses. These results indicated the involvement of HRH1 SNPs rs901865 and rs346074 in OSCC development and support the interaction between HRH1 gene polymorphisms and an environmental carcinogen as a predisposing factor for OSCC progression.
