It is important to understand the fast plasma dynamics in the operation of fusion plasma devices. Here the authors demonstrate the inference on the internal field reversed configuration magnetic topology and their occurrence during fast Alfvenic transient phenomena in C-2U device.

Among antiferromagnetic materials, Mn2Au is one of the most intensively studied, and it serves as a very popular platform for testing various ideas related to antiferromagnetic magnetotransport and dynamics. Since recently, this material has also attracted considerable interest in the context of optical properties and optically-driven antiferromagnetic switching. In this work, we use first principles methods to explore the physics of charge photocurrents, spin photocurrents, and the inverse Faraday effect in antiferromagnetic Mn2Au. We predict the symmetry and magnitude of these effects and speculate that they can be used for tracking the dynamics of staggered moments during switching. Our calculations reveal the emergence of large photocurrents of spin in collinear Mn2Au, whose properties can be understood as a result of a non-linear optical version of the spin Hall effect, which we refer to as the photospin Hall effect, encoded into the relation between the driving charge and resulting spin photocurrents. Moreover, we suggest that even a very small canting in Mn2Au can give rise to colossal spin photocurrents that are chiral in flavor. We conclude that the combination of staggered magnetization with the structural and electronic properties of this material results in a unique blend of prominent photocurrents, which makes Mn2Au a unique platform for advanced optospintronics applications.

Abstract Three-dimensional (3D) compensated MnBi2Te4 is antiferromagnetic, but undergoes a spin-flop transition at intermediate fields, resulting in a canted phase before saturation. In this work, we experimentally show that the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in MnBi2Te4 originates from a topological response that is sensitive to the perpendicular magnetic moment and to its canting angle. Synthesis by molecular beam epitaxy allows us to obtain a large-area quasi-3D 24-layer MnBi2Te4 with near-perfect compensation that hosts the phase diagram observed in bulk which we utilize to probe the AHE. This AHE is seen to exhibit an antiferromagnetic response at low magnetic fields, and a clear evolution at intermediate fields through surface and bulk spin-flop transitions into saturation. Throughout this evolution, the AHE is super-linear versus magnetization rather than the expected linear relationship. We reveal that this discrepancy is related to the canting angle, consistent with the symmetry of the crystal. Our findings bring to light a topological anomalous Hall response that can be found in non-collinear ferromagnetic, and antiferromagnetic phases.

The motion of electrons in a complex magnetic background may generate novel magnetic interactions. Here, Grytsiuk et al. report that a peculiar orbital motion of electrons in response to a non-coplanarity of neighbouring spins leads to a topological orbital moment, which further gives rise to a new class of magnetic interactions.

Here, we report first-principles calculations of laser-induced photocurrents at the surface of a prototype Rashba system. By referring to Keldysh nonequilibrium formalism combined with the Wannier interpolation scheme, we perform first-principles electronic structure calculations of a prototype BiAg_{2} surface alloy, which is a well-known material realization of the Rashba model. In addition to the nonmagnetic ground state situation, we also study the case of in-plane magnetized BiAg_{2}. We calculate the laser-induced charge photocurrents for the ferromagnetic case and the laser-induced spin photocurrents for both the nonmagnetic and the ferromagnetic cases. Our results confirm the emergence of very large in-plane photocurrents as predicted by the Rashba model and are in agreement with previous experimental measurements of THz emission generated at Bi/Ag interfaces. The resulting photocurrents satisfy all the symmetry restrictions with respect to the light helicity and the magnetization direction. We provide microscopic insights into the symmetry and magnitude of the computed currents based on the ab initio multiband electronic structure of the system, and scrutinize the importance of resonant two-band and three-band transitions for driven currents, thereby establishing a benchmark picture of photocurrents at Rashba-like surfaces and interfaces. Our work contributes to establishing the interfacial Rashba spin-orbit interaction as a major mechanism for the generation of in-plane photocurrents, which are of great interest in the field of ultrafast and terahertz spintronics.

Valoració ràpida de la diversitat de ratpenats que habiten les coves de les muntanyes de Chebket ES-Sellaoua (est d’Algèria) La informació sobre l’ecologia i els hàbits de vida dels ratpenats d’Algèria és molt limitada. Aquest treball recull els resultats d’un estudi destinat a inventariar la fauna de quiròpters de les muntanyes de Chebket ES-Sellaoua (est d’Algèria) entre gener de 2014 i desembre de 2015. Les prospeccions van incloure observacions visuals i captures d’espècimens. Es van identificar cinc espècies, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, Rhinolophus hipposideros, Myotis punicus, Miniopterus schreibersi i Pipistrellus kuhli pertanyents a tres famílies, Rhinolophidae, Miniopteridae i Vespertilionidae. Abstract: Objective:  H2S is pro-inflammatory in inflammatory models, thus we investigated whether H2S plays a role in haemorrhagic shock (HS)-associated inflammation. Methods:  Male, Sprague-Dawley rats were given an inhibitor of H2S biosynthesis, DL-propargylglycine (PAG, 50 mg/kg, i. v.) or saline (1 ml/kg) 30 min before blood withdrawal and subjected to HS (mean arterial pressure (MAP) of 40 mM Hg for 90 min) followed by reinfusion of shed blood. Animals were killed at 5, 90, 270 and 630 min after reinfusion. To evaluate whether patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have a higher rate of apoptosis in and secondary necrosis of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) and macrophages compared with controls; to compare the rate of macrophage phagocytic clearance of apoptotic PMNs in patients with SLE and healthy controls; to evaluate whether in vitro PMN and macrophage apoptosis and secondary necrosis, and the ability of macrophages to phagocytose apoptotic bodies, are correlated with lupus disease activity; and to determine whether macrophage clearance of apoptotic bodies in patients with SLE and normal controls is related to certain serum factors. Thirty-six patients with SLE and 18 healthy, nonsmoking volunteers were studied. PMNs and monocytes were isolated from fresh blood and cultured in the presence of different sources of serum. Apoptotic PMNs and macrophages were examined by annexin V binding and morphology on May–Giemsa–stained cytopreparations, at different time points. The presence of secondary necrotic PMNs and macrophages was verified by staining with trypan blue. Macrophage phagocytosis of apoptotic PMNs was measured using a coded, observer-blinded, microscopically quantified phagocytosis assay. Cells were cultured in the presence of serum obtained from healthy subjects or from patients with SLE. At 5 and 24 hours, the percentage of apoptotic PMNs from patients with SLE was significantly higher than that of PMNs from healthy subjects. At 24 and 48 hours, the percentage of secondary necrotic PMNs from patients with SLE was also significantly higher than the percentage of necrotic PMNs from controls. Serum from patients with SLE accelerated the rate of apoptosis in and secondary necrosis of PMNs from healthy subjects. Macrophages from SLE patients were less capable of phagocytosing apoptotic PMNs compared with macrophages obtained from controls. Macrophages from patients with active SLE were less capable of phagocytosing apoptotic PMNs than were macrophages from patients with inactive SLE, but the difference was not statistically significant. The percentage of phagocytosis of apoptotic PMNs by macrophages from SLE patients correlated negatively with the SLE Disease Activity Index, serum levels of anti–double-stranded DNA, and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and correlated positively with serum levels of C3, C4, and albumin, the hemoglobin level, and the leukocyte count. Serum from SLE patients not only significantly increased macrophage apoptosis in cells from healthy subjects but also remarkably down-regulated the clearance of apoptotic PMNs by macrophages from healthy subjects. The multiferroic ferrimagnet Cu_{2}OSeO_{3} with a chiral crystal structure has attracted a lot of recent attention due to the emergence of a magnetic skyrmion order in this material. Here, the topological properties of its magnon excitations are systematically investigated by linear spin-wave theory and inelastic neutron scattering. When considering Heisenberg exchange interactions only, two degenerate Weyl magnon nodes with topological charges ±2 are observed at high-symmetry points. Each Weyl point splits into two as the symmetry of the system is further reduced by including into consideration the nearest-neighbor Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, crucial for obtaining an accurate fit to the experimental spin-wave spectrum. Also, one additional pair of Weyl points appears near the R point. The predicted topological properties are verified by surface state and Chern number analysis. Additionally, we predict that a measurable thermal Hall conductivity can be associated with the emergence of the Weyl points, the position and number of which can be tuned by modifying the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in the system.
