In Türkiye, national parks play a prominent role among protected areas. Besides meeting people's recreational needs, these protected areas are home to natural and cultural resources. As a result, numerous research has been conducted to find out more about assets and recreational uses of these areas. In this study, the bibliometric analysis method was used to examine research published in Türkiye on national park between 2002 and 2021 within the scope of Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science (WoS). For this purpose, 156 publications, selected from the WoS database, were analyzed. The year 2017 had the most publications. In addition to Türkiye, significant countries in the spatial distribution analysis of national parks included the United States and Italy. About 338 authors in all were included in the author analysis for the publications from national parks. The current study found that 117 different institutions had publications about the national park. The highest number of publications and citations originated from Karadeniz Teknik and Kastamonu Universities, respectively. In this study, the WoS database was used as search engine because it is the most frequently preferred and recognized database, containing all records of high-quality research publications and continuing to be regarded as one of the primary sources of bibliographic information. With its impressive leaves and ability to resist harsh environmental conditions, Photinia x fraseri Dress., a hybrid species, is widely used in landscaping and has an ever-increasing economic and environmental value. The economic value of the landscape plants is directly proportional to their growth performance. For this reason, it is of great importance to identify and use the fastest growing ortet, especially in landscape plants in terms of cost and profitability. In this study, five ortets of P. x fraseri were compared in terms of their growth performances based on seedling height, root collar diameter, leaf length, leaf width, root length, root number, last shoot length, stem and root fresh-dry weights, and seedling fresh and dry weights. As a result of the study, it was found that the growth performances of five ortets in different districts were generally ranked as Eregli < Alapli < Ulus < Devrek < Zonguldak, and that the difference between the pairs of ortets in terms of some seedling characters reached up to 2.8 times. Taurus flowering ash (Fraxinus ornus subsp. cilicica) is an endemic tree species in Turkey. The bark of the species was characterized for summative chemical composition, the monomeric composition of polysaccharides, phenolic content, in vitro and ex vivo antioxidant properties of hydrophilic extracts, the composition of lipophilic extractives and suberin, and thermal degradation. The bark has an elevated ash content (17%), primarily composed of calcium, and a noteworthy extractive content (38.9%), predominantly of hydrophilic compounds. The antioxidant activity of the bark extracts is moderate, with an IC50 value of 40 μg/mL and an EC50 value of 230 μg/mL by DPPH and TBARS methods. The lipophilic extractives principally contain fatty acids and diterpenoids. The suberin content is low (1%) and composed primarily of ω-hydroxy acids with 9,10,18 trihydroxyoctadecanoic acid as the major suberin monomer. The lignin content is low (9.8%), and polysaccharides represent 33%. The ignition temperature of the bark is 190 °C, the burnout temperature is 653 °C, and the activation energy in combustion is 29 kJ mol−1. A biorefinery concept was developed considering the bark's chemical and thermal characteristics to convert approximately 90% of the bark mass into valuable chemicals, extracts, functional materials, and additives. Increasing urbanization in the world in recent years has resulted in the replacement of areas covered with plants by buildings. Because of this change, urban areas are warmer than rural areas (urban heat island). In this investigation, the urban heat island (UHI) effect, the methods of combating this effect and notably the role of urban trees are exhaustively elaborated by considering the relevant literature. In addition, suggestions were made on which species should be selected and how tree species should be positioned to reduce UHI effect. There are solid evidences that trees, urban green spaces and wider green infrastructure can bring significant reductions in urban temperatures. Urban planners and decision makers can help combat UHI and increase urban resilience to the effects of climate change, primarily by planting the urban environment with extensive shade-providing species and harnessing the most of the opportunities afforded by restoration activities. Trees and other vegetation can cool the surrounding air by evapotranspiration thanks to both transpiration from plant leaves and evaporation of water from irrigated soil. The tree canopy can considerably improve outdoor thermal comfort by preventing a pedestrian from being exposed to solar radiation, and also by protecting floors and building coverings from UHI effect. Furthermore, if a roadside afforestation is to be established to combat UHI effect, a proper plan based on the character of the road will be beneficial in terms of achieving the determined goals. Juniperus excelsa is one of the most common tree species and has a wide geographical and altitudinal distribution in Turkey. It is also resistant to drought and frost damages and can cope with poor soils. In this study, we explore whether there are any differences among eight J. excelsa populations from a narrow geographic region grown in a common garden test site in terms of growth and contents of photosynthetic pigments, proline and nutrients of their 10-year-old saplings. Phenotypic trait differentiation (QST) at all traits, FST at neutral SSRs among six of the populations and associations of traits with environmental conditions at provenance regions were also analysed to test for patterns of local adaptation. Sapling traits of eight J. excelsa populations of from Lakes District in Turkey at the test site showed that populations significantly differed for growth, photosynthetic pigments, proline and nutrient contents. The mean height and diameter of 10-year-old saplings were found as 94.5 cm and 41.6 mm, respectively. Eğirdir-Barla and Sütçüler-Tota populations showed the highest performance for the majority of traits at age 10 compared to all other populations. Nutrient contents in leaves were generally in the sufficiency range reported for plant growth. Considering photosynthetic pigments and proline, it could be concluded that the populations were not exposed to severe stress. Among the environmental variables, the best predictors of growth were annual mean minimum temperature and soil texture at the populations' origin, accounting for 49% of the variation in height and diameter, respectively. Also, higher phenotypic trait differentiation for most traits than genetic differentiation at neutral genetic markers suggests local adaptation at a small geographic scale. The present study revealed adaptive divergence between populations at a small geographic scale. However, environmental similarity between region of origin and test site was not a good indicator of growth-related traits. In Turkey, almost half of which has semi-arid conditions, steppe areas have continuously been increasing. These areas need to be afforested to prevent desertification. For this purpose, this research presents specifically the Anatolian black pine (Pinus nigra J.F. Arnold subsp. pallasiana /Lamb./ Holmboe) as a suitable forest tree species for afforestation activities, due to wide distribution both in Turkey and the broader region. After a thorough investigation of past and recent literature, and onsite activities, the review focuses on the production of seeds and seedlings of the species, land preparation and planting technique, post-planting site maintenance, success in the afforestation areas and considerations on Anatolian black pine seed transfer regioning. In conclusion, local ecological conditions regarding the species should always be taken into consideration. Another important issue for the success of afforestation in semi-arid lands is that the preparation activities of the land for afforestation are carried out with appropriate techniques timely and painstakingly. Moreover, after the 2000s, Turkish forestry focused on afforestation in semi-arid and anthropogenic steppe areas. Climate change will affect all ecosystem services of green areas in the districts. In many cases, the tree species in parks and districts are suffering from the increasingly warmer and drier summers and newly immigrated pests and diseases. Tilia tomentosa Moench. is considered as an important tree species under climate change for dry and warm conditions in Central and Southeastern Europe countries. This tree species is often used as valued urban tree. In the present study we investigate the growth patterns of T. tomentosa Moench. in relation to their growing conditions in order to evaluate its interactions in urban contexts. All the studied characters varied significantly among the sampled districts. Within each of the regions, number of flowers showed a wide range 72-104 per m² in Marmara region and 54-124 per m² in Western Black Sea region. All studied characters, beyond number of flowers, positively correlated with each other. This study revealed that especially fruit length had a strong and positive correlation with altitude and a high negative correlation with temperature. This study examined variation of stomatal density in two populations of Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. and two populations of Q. robur L. from northwestern Turkey. Stomatal density was determined in fully expanded and dried leaf samples that were collected from trees under natural conditions. Stomatal densities of Q. petraea and Q. robur varied from 186 to 459 per mm2 (mean value: 333 stomata per mm2) and from 397 to 826 per mm2 (mean value: 517 stomata per mm2), respectively. Significant differences in stomatal density were found between these two oak species in Turkey as well as between populations within species. Strong and significant negative correlations were observed between stomatal density and leaf length within each species and across the species. While in Central Europe Q. petraea occurs in drier environments than Q. robur, in the present study Q. robur populations grow in more arid environments and have smaller leaves and a higher stomatal density than Q. petraea. Stomatal density had negative correlations with each of the other leaf characters apart from sinus width. In addition, the interspecific PST value (0.48) for stomatal density was relatively high compared to the mean genetic differentiation calculated at eight microsatellite loci (FST = 0.030), suggesting different local adaptations of populations. The comparison of phenotypic trait differentiation and genetic differentiation at selectively neutral genetic markers can indicate divergent selection on traits. Phenotypic trait differentiation (PST) andtwo multivariate analysis methods were used to determine the level of differentiation and relationships among seven Juniperus excelsa populations basedon 13 morphological characters of their cones, seeds, juvenile seedlings and 1+0 year old seedlings. Significant differences among populations were found for all morphological characters (P<0.001) apart from cotyledon length using ANOVA. According to Penrose and Squared Euclidean distances, the southeastern populations Bucak-Kestel and Gölhisar-Gölhisar (0.970; 12.374) were most similar. Aksu-Sorgun and E ðirdir-Barla populations, separated by a mountain range, were the most different populations (4.647; 47.157). Evaluatedas a whole, both multivariate analysis methods gave similar results. Phenotypic trait differentiation (PST) for 1+0 year oldseed lings that were grown in a common environment was similar in magnitude for the majority of traits as genetic differentiation at nuclear microsatellite markers (FST) suggesting the absence of divergent selection on these traits. Numeric-taxonomical and molecular techniques [nuclear simple sequence repeats (nSSRs), expressed sequence tag (EST) SSRs, and chloroplast SSRs] were used to estimate morphological and genetic differentiation within and among 4 Quercus petraea and Q. robur natural populations in Turkey. Canonical discriminant analysis (CDA) and principal component analysis (PCA) showed that 3 out of 15 studied leaf morphological characters (clustered hairs, number of intercalary veins, petiole length) mainly accounted for the discrimination between species. In accordance with earlier observations, the mean genetic differentiation between Q. petraea and Q. robur at 8 microsatellite loci (FST = 0.030) and at chloroplast microsatellites (GST = 0.22) was low, potentially as the result of interspecific gene flow or shared ancestral polymorphisms. Chloroplast microsatellite analyses showed unique chloroplast haplotypes in Turkey, suggesting a glacial refuge in this region. Nuclear microsatellite ssrQrZAG96, described in other studies as being potentially under directional selection (outlier locus) due to high interspecific differentiation, showed considerably lower differentiation between species in the present study (FST = 0.028). These different patterns of genetic variation suggest different local adaptations of the species in this putative glacial refugial area in Turkey. It may also be that this marker is not directly associated with morphological or adaptive species differences. Interestingly, the analysed Q. petraea and Q. robur populations appear to have ecological requirements with regard to water availability that are different than those described for European populations. In this study, the effects of two different boron concentrator wastes (A and B) on germination and growth of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) were investigated. For this purpose, the species seeds were shown in the petri dishes containing pure water (control) and the varied concentrations of two different wastes with three replications. The root and shoot lengths, fresh and dry weights of one week seedlings grown from the germinated seeds at the end of three days were measured. An inhibitor effect of boron waste on germination of species seeds was not determined. In addition, it was found out that 600 ppm and over concentrations of both boron wastes decreased the root and shoot lengths, fresh and dry weights of seedlings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, it is investigated the effects of 13 different sowing times (15 daily intervals) in periods of both on 15 th September of 2004-15 th march of 2005 and 15 th September of 2005-15 th march of 2006 on germination ratio of seeds of Wild cherry [Prunus avium (L.) L.], Cherry laurel fruit (Laurocerasus officinalis Roem.), sour cherry (Cerasus vulgaris Miller.), Mahalep (Cerasus mahalep (L.) Miller.) and Apricot (Prunus armenica L.). In addition, some seed characteristics which having importance in terms of growing techniques of the five stone fruits mentioned above were determined. As a result, the highest germination ratios (67,30% and 67,27%) were obtained from the sowings on dates of 15 th September and 1 st October of 2005. This study was conducted to determine the effects of date of fruit collection on the germination of Phillyrea latifolia L. Fruits were collected between September and December of 2007, in Egirdir, Turkey. It was found that the one thousand seed weight for the species seeds was 400 g, with significant differences among dates of fruit collection. The highest germination percentage of 58% was obtained from the seeds collected on the ground from previous years on the 1st of September 2007. The seeds from crown on the 1st of September 2007 had a germination percentage of 42%. Moreover, seeds from crown on the 1st of November and December 2007 and 15th of October and November 2007 did not germinate. In conclusion, P. latifolia seeds collected on the ground from previous years could be sown in early autumn to obtain a high germination rate.
