The relentless advancement of modern technology has given rise to increasingly intricate and sophisticated engineering systems, which in turn demand more reliable and intelligent fault diagnosis methods. This paper presents a comprehensive review of fault diagnosis in uncertain environments, focusing on innovative strategies for intelligent fault diagnosis. To this end, conventional fault diagnosis methods are first reviewed, including advances in mechanism-driven, data-driven, and hybrid-driven diagnostic models and their strengths, limitations, and applicability across various scenarios. Subsequently, we provide a thorough exploration of multi-source uncertainty in fault diagnosis, addressing its generation, quantification, and implications for diagnostic processes. Then, intelligent strategies for all stages of fault diagnosis starting from signal acquisition are highlighted, especially in the context of complex engineering systems. Finally, we conclude with insights and perspectives on future directions in the field, emphasizing the need for the continued evolution of intelligent diagnostic systems to meet the challenges posed by modern engineering complexities.

IntroductionThe mental health disparities suffered by the English-speaking Afro-Caribbean diaspora living with psychosis in North America and the United Kingdom have been well described for decades, but the root causes of these disparities remain poorly understood. Part of the problem may be that the attitudes and beliefs of Caribbean communities regarding psychosis have never been systematically assessed. Such an inquiry could lay the foundation for changes to how psychiatric services for psychosis are implemented with migrant Caribbean communities. The ideal would be a re-design of services, or cultural adaptation of care, based on input from community members, patients, and their families, with the hope that disparities of care would be reduced or eliminated as clinicians co-create interventions that are more appropriate and acceptable to Caribbean people. To lay the groundwork of such an important endeavor, we investigated the shared attitudes, beliefs, experiences, practices, and traditions of English-speaking Afro-Caribbean people in relation to psychosis and psychiatric care.MethodsWe conducted a scoping review by searching Medline, PsychINFO and Scopus, reviewing 764 articles, and selecting 220 for thematic content analysis.ResultsWe highlighted the heterogeneity in the Caribbean diaspora living in North America and the UK. Five principal themes emerged: (1) The enduring effects of colonialism on the psychiatric care of Afro-Caribbean migrants; (2) The effects of adaptation to migration on the experience of psychosis; (3) Pervasive cultural mistrust of psychiatry and mental health institutions; (4) A collective approach to life; and (5) The role of religion and spirituality in the understanding of psychosis.ConclusionHistorical, sociocultural, and geopolitical themes characterize the English Afro-Caribbean experience of psychosis and inform culturally adapted clinical interventions for patients with psychosis and their families. Careful attention to these adaptations will reduce clinical bias and misdiagnosis, optimize adherence to treatment, engage patients and families in recovery, and ultimately, reduce treatment disparities while empowering Afro-Caribbean people and their communities. By bringing forward the themes in this chapter, individual clinicians will be given tools to change how they work with Caribbean people with psychosis in addition to laying the foundation for higher order changes in the mental health professions and society as a whole.

Abstract Background This study aims to compare the clinical outcomes and safety of a novel hand-held retractor system-assisted Wiltse TLIF with that P-TLIF and assess whether this hand-held retractor system assisted Wiltse TLIF can yield less paraspinal muscle injury. Methods 56 patients (P-TLIF: 26, Wiltse TLIF: 30) were included in this one year prospective controlled study. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage, mobilization time, and discharge time were recorded. The clinical outcomes were evaluated by ODI, VAS, JOA, and SF-36 scores (7 days, 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery). Paraspinal muscle injury was assessed by postoperative MRI (6 months after surgery). CK and C-reaction protein were measured pre and postoperatively, and CT or X-ray (one year postoperatively) was used to assess bony union/non-union. Results The Wiltse (study) group was associated with significantly less estimated blood loss (79.67 ± 28.59 ml vs 192.31 ± 59.48 ml, P = 0.000*), postoperative drainage (43.33 ± 27.89 ml vs 285.57 ± 123.05 ml, P = 0.000*), and shorter mobilization (4.1 ± 1.2 d vs. 3.0 ± 0.9 d, P

Objective: To establish an analytical method for the determination of 37 kinds of fatty acid in milk powder by gas chromatography-hydrogen flame ionization detector (GC-FID). Methods: Infant milk powder samples were methylated by acetyl chloride-methanol method (10% acetyl chloride methanol solution in water bath at 80 ℃±1 ℃ for 2 h). The supernatant was collected by centrifugation, passed through a 0.22 μm organic filter membrane, and separated through SP-2560 (100 m×250 μm×0.2 μm). Then, the detection was operated by gas chromatography, and the external standard method was used for quantification. Results: The linearity of 37 kinds of fatty acid methyl esters was good in the concentration range of 0.002~0.2 mg/mL, and the correlation coefficients were all greater than 0.999. The recovery rate fell in 85.5%~100.0% for the low gradient, 91.2%~104.2% for the medium gradient, and 86.8%~103.8% for the high gradient. The precision was between 0.88% and 3.81%, and the actual sample determination results met the relevant standards. Conclusion: This method is a more rapid and better separation degree of fatty acid detection technology established on the basis of national standard, which has good practical value. The method has good stability, low cost, good reproducibility and high accuracy, and it is suitable for the determination of 37 kinds of fatty acid in infant milk powder.

The design of aerospace systems is recognized as a complex interdisciplinary process. Many studies have shown that the exchange of information among multiple disciplines often results in strong coupling and nonlinearity characteristics in system optimization. Meanwhile, inevitable multi-source uncertainty factors continuously accumulate during the optimization process, greatly compromising the system’s robustness and reliability. In this context, uncertainty-based multidisciplinary design optimization (UMDO) has emerged and has been preliminarily applied in aerospace practices. However, it still encounters major challenges, including the complexity of multidisciplinary analysis modeling, and organizational and computational complexities of uncertainty analysis and optimization. Extensive research has been conducted recently to address these issues, particularly uncertainty analysis and artificial intelligence strategies. The former further enriches the UMDO technique, while the latter makes outstanding contributions to addressing the computational complexity of UMDO. With the aim of providing an overview of currently available methods, this paper summarizes existing state-of-the art UMDO technologies, with a special focus on relevant intelligent optimization strategies.

Abstract Background Persons living with dementia have various health and social care needs and expectations, some which are not fully met by health providers, including primary care clinicians. The Quebec Alzheimer plan, implemented in 2014, aimed to cover these needs, but there is no research on the effect this plan had on the needs and expectations of persons living with dementia. The objective of this study is to identify persons living with dementia and caregivers’ met and unmet needs and to describe their experience. Methods This is a sequential mixed methods explanatory design: Phase 1: cross-sectional study to describe the met and unmet health and social care needs of community-dwelling persons living with dementia using Camberwell Assessment of Need of the Elderly and Carers’ Assessment for Dementia tools. Phase 2: qualitative descriptive study to explore and understand the experiences of persons living with dementia and caregivers with the use of social and healthcare services, using semi-structured interviews. Data from phase 1 was analyzed with descriptive statistics, and from phase 2, with inductive thematic analysis. Results from phases 1 and 2 were compared, contrasted and interpreted together. Results The mean total number of needs reported by the patients was 5.03 (4.48 and 0.55 met and unmet needs, respectively). Caregivers had 0.52 met needs (3.16 unmet needs). The main needs for both were memory, physical health, eyesight/hearing/communication, medication, looking after home, money/budgeting. Three categories were mentioned by the participants: Persons living with dementia and caregiver’s attitude towards memory decline, their perception of community health services and of the family medicine practice. Conclusions Our study confirms the findings of other studies on the most common unmet needs of the patients and caregivers that are met partially or not at all. In addition, the participants were satisfied with access to care, and medical services in primary practices, being confident in their family. Our results indicate persons living with dementia and their caregivers need a contact person, a clear explanation of their dementia diagnosis, a care plan, written information on available services, and support for the caregivers.

Squalene is a precursor of steroids with diverse bioactivities. Tea was previously found to contain squalene, but its variation between tea cultivars remains unknown. In this study, tea leaf squalene sample preparation was optimized and the squalene variation among 30 tea cultivars was investigated. It shows that squalene in the unsaponified tea leaf extracts was well separated on gas chromatography profile. Saponification led to a partial loss of squalene in tea leaf extract and so it is not an essential step for preparing squalene samples from tea leaves. The tea leaf squalene content increased with the maturity of tea leaf and the old leaves grown in the previous year had the highest level of squalene among the tested samples. The squalene levels in the old leaves of the 30 tested cultivars differentiated greatly, ranging from 0.289 to 3.682 mg/g, in which cultivar “Pingyun” had the highest level of squalene. The old tea leaves and pruned littering, which are not used in tea production, are an alternative source for natural squalene extraction.

Surrogate-model-assisted uncertainty treatment practices have been the subject of increasing attention and investigations in recent decades for many symmetrical engineering systems. This paper delivers a review of surrogate modeling methods in both uncertainty quantification and propagation scenarios. To this end, the mathematical models for uncertainty quantification are firstly reviewed, and theories and advances on probabilistic, non-probabilistic and hybrid ones are discussed. Subsequently, numerical methods for uncertainty propagation are broadly reviewed under different computational strategies. Thirdly, several popular single surrogate models and novel hybrid techniques are reviewed, together with some general criteria for accuracy evaluation. In addition, sample generation techniques to improve the accuracy of surrogate models are discussed for both static sampling and its adaptive version. Finally, closing remarks are provided and future prospects are suggested.

The restriction of numerous sectors of society and the uncertainty surrounding the development of the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in adverse psychological states to college students isolated at home. In this study, we explored the mediating role of fatigue in the effects of epidemic rumination and resilience on depressive symptoms as well as how epidemic rumination and resilience may interact with one another. A large sample of Chinese college students (N = 1,293) completed measures on epidemic rumination, resilience, fatigue, and depressive symptoms. Results indicated depressive symptomology was positively predicted by epidemic rumination while negatively predicted by resilience. In both cases, fatigue partially mediated these effects and positively predicted depressive symptoms. Unexpectedly, epidemic rumination and resilience interacted in a manner where the effect of rumination on fatigue became stronger as resiliency increased. Theoretical and practical implications are provided to further interpret the results.

Pain empathy is influenced by a number of factors. However, few studies have examined the effects of strength of professional identity on pain empathy in pre-service teachers. This study used the event-related potential (ERP) technique, which offers a high temporal resolution, to investigate the neurocognitive mechanisms of pain empathy in pre-teachers with strong or weak professional identity. The N110 and P300 components have been shown to reflect an individual’s emotional sharing and cognitive evaluation in pain empathy, respectively. The results of the current study show that pre-teachers with strong professional identity showed a significant difference in N110 amplitudes evoked towards painful and non-painful stimuli; whereas pre-teachers with weak professional identity did not show a significant difference in the amplitudes evoked by the two stimulus types. For the P300 component, pre-teachers with weak professional identity showed a significant difference in the amplitudes evoked towards painful and non-painful stimuli; whereas pre-teachers with strong professional identity did not show a significant difference in the amplitudes evoked by the two stimulus types. Our results indicate that pre-teachers with strong professional identity show a higher level of pain empathy than those with weak professional identity.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) has excellent physical and chemical properties which make it a promising material in making large space borne components, especially in making antenna reflectors and ultra-lightweight space mirrors. These components are usually in large scale to achieve the application requirements. In this research, a dual-robots fabrication system was in-house developed to meet the requirement for figuring a large off-axis parabolic CFRP antenna reflector with the size of 2.4m×4.58m. To make sure that whole surface of the antenna reflector could be covered by the fabrication system, the surface was divided into six regions to accomplish the fabrication. In addition, a special designed tool was utilized to adapt to the curvature variation of the surface. The final surface form accuracies obtained for areas ≤φ1750mm, ≤φ2400mm and the whole surface of the antenna reflector were 13.5μm RMS, 23.4μm RMS and 45.8μm RMS, respectively. Feasibility and surface figuring accuracy of the dual-robots system in fabricating large scale components were verified.

The hardness of wurtzite indium nitride (α-InN) films of 0.5 to 4 μm in thickness was measured by the nano-indentation method at room temperature. After investigation of crystalline quality by x-ray diffraction, the hardness and Young’s modulus were determined to be 8.8 ± 0.4 and 184 ± 5 GPa, respectively, for the In (0001)- and N ( 000 1 ̄ ) -growth faces of InN films. The bulk and shear moduli were then derived to be 99 ± 3 and 77 ± 2 GPa, respectively. The Poisson’s ratio was evaluated to be 0.17 ± 0.03. The results were examined comprehensively in comparison with previously reported data of InN as well as those of other nitrides of aluminum nitride and gallium nitride. The underlying physical process determining the moduli and hardness was examined in terms of atomic bonding and dislocation energy of the nitrides and wurtzite zinc oxide.

Ions of the title compound, C6H15N2O2+·C2F3O2−, a new organic nonlinear optical crystal, are linked by N—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions. Both the amino groups of the l-lysinium cation are protonated. A three-dimensional network of hydrogen bonds is observed, forming a closed ring. Intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds involving l-lysinium cations and trifluoroacetate anions link the ions into extended chains which run parallel to the [010] direction. The F atoms of the trifluoroacetate anion are disordered over two sites with site occupancies of 0.423 (18) and 0.577 (18). The asymmetric unit consists of two cations and two anions.

In this study, the Academic Encouragement Scale (AES) was revised in Chinese. A total of 645 Chinese undergraduates and graduate students participated in the test.The results show that there are 10 items in the Simplified Chinese Language Version of the Academic Encouragement Scale(AES-SC),both exploratory factor analysis(EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) support the two factor model structure of challenge centered encouragement(AES-Challenge) and potential centered encouragement(AES-Potential), and the model has measurement equivalence across genders (male / female) and across stages of learning (undergraduate / postgraduate). The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of implicit professional identity (IPI) and its relationship with explicit professional identity (EPI) and well-being of pre-service teachers. A total of 81 Chinese female pre-service teacher volunteers participated in the study, in which their IPI, EPI, and well-being were measured using the Single Category Implicit Association Test (SC-IAT), the professional identification scale for pre-service teachers, and the short depression-happiness scale, respectively. The results indicated that (a) pre-service teachers had positive IPI; (b) the correlation between the measures of pre-service teachers' EPI and IPI was not significant; (c) IPI significantly predicted well-being negatively, while EPI positively predicted well-being; and (d) IPI moderated the relationship between EPI and well-being. In the weak IPI group, EPI did not significantly predict well-being; however, in the strong IPI group, EPI significantly predicted well-being positively.
