Abstract BackgroundAs the most malignant type of cancer in the female reproductive system, ovarian cancer (OC) has become the second leading cause of death among Chinese women. Chemotherapy is the main treatment for patients with OC, and its numerous adverse effects can easily lead to malnutrition. It is difficult to centrally manage patients with OC in the intervals between chemotherapy. The use of WeChat, an effective mobile tool, in chronic disease management has been highlighted. ObjectiveThis study aimed to implement a continuous follow-up strategy and health monitoring based on the WeChat platform for patients with OC undergoing chemotherapy to ensure that each phase of chemotherapy was delivered on schedule and to improve the survival rate of patients with OC. MethodsParticipants were recruited and randomly assigned to either the WeChat-based nutrition intervention group or the usual care group. A self-administered general information questionnaire was used at enrollment to obtain basic information about the patients. The Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) Scale was used to investigate the nutritional status of the patients at 3 time points (T0=before the first admission to the hospital for chemotherapy, T1=2 weeks after the first chemotherapy, and T6=2 weeks after the sixth chemotherapy). The blood indices of patients were investigated through the inhospital health care system at 3 times（T0=before the first admission to the hospital for chemotherapy, T1=2 weeks after the first chemotherapy, and T6=2 weeks after the sixth chemotherapy). Patients in the intervention group were introduced to the nutrition applet, invited to join the nutrition management group chat, and allowed to consult on nutritional issues in private chats with nutrition management team members. Linear mixed models were used to analyze changes in each nutritional indicator in the 2 groups, with their baseline measurements as covariates; with group, time, and group-time interactions considered as fixed effects; and with patients considered as random effects. ResultsA total of 96 patients with OC undergoing chemotherapy were recruited into the study. Distribution was based on a 1:1 ratio, with 48 patients each in the nutrition intervention group and the usual care group. The attrition rate after the first chemotherapy session was 18.75%. The mixed linear model revealed that the group-based effect and the group-time interaction effect on PG-SGA scores were significant (F38,38PF37,37PF38,38PF38,38PF38,38PF37,37PF37,38PF38,38PF37,37P ConclusionsThis study provided evidence that a WeChat-based, multidisciplinary, full-course nutritional management program can significantly improve the nutritional status of patients with OC during chemotherapy.

Abstract Background To understand the clinical characteristics and prognosis of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)-related encephalopathy in children. Methods A retrospective analysis of the data of children who were diagnosed with RSV-related encephalopathy and admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of Beijing Children’s Hospital between November 2016 and November 2023 was performed. Results Four hundred and sixty-four children with RSV infection were treated in the PICU, and eight of these patients (1.7%) were diagnosed with RSV-related encephalopathy. The mean age of the patients was 24.89 (5.92 ∼ 36.86) months. Two patients had underlying diseases. The time from the onset of illness to impaired consciousness was 3 (1.88–3.75) days. Five patients had convulsions, and three patients had an epileptic status. The serum procalcitonin (PCT) level was 1.63 (0.24, 39.85) ng/ml for the eight patients, and the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein level was 232 (163 ∼ 848) g/L. Among the 8 patients, four patients underwent electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring or examination. One patient showed continuous low-voltage, nonresponsive activity, and another patient displayed persistent slow waves, the remaining two patients had negative results. One patient had a combination of acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) and acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion (AESD). Additionally, one patient had ANE, and another had acute brain swelling (ABS). One patient died in the hospital, and the other seven patients were discharged with improvement. Routine follow-up was conducted for 4.58(0.5 ∼ 6.50) years, and all patients fully recovered. Conclusions RSV-related encephalopathy could have varying clinical manifestations, and some types, such as ANE and ABS, are dangerous and can lead to death.

Abstract Objective To investigate the effectiveness and tolerability of ketogenic diet therapy (KDT) in patients with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) associated with genetic etiology which onset within the first 6 months of life, and to explore the association between response to KDT and genotype/clinical parameters. Methods We retrospectively reviewed data from patients with genetic DEE who started KDT at Beijing Children's Hospital between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2021. Results A total of 32 patients were included, involving 14 pathogenic or likely pathogenic single genes, and 16 (50.0%) patients had sodium/potassium channel gene variants. The median age at onset of epilepsy was 1.0 (IQR: 0.1, 3.0) months. The median age at initiation of KDT was 10.0 (IQR: 5.3, 13.8) months and the median duration of maintenance was 14.0 (IQR: 7.0, 26.5) months, with a mean blood β‐hydroxybutyrate of 2.49 ± 0.62 mmol/L. During the maintenance period of KDT, 26 (81.3%) patients had a ≥50% reduction of seizure frequency, of which 12 (37.5%) patients achieved seizure freedom. Better responses were observed in patients with STXBP1 variants, with four out of five patients achieving seizure freedom. There were no statistically differences in the age of onset, duration of epilepsy before KDT, blood ketone values, or the presence of ion channel gene variants between the seizure‐free patients and the others. The most common adverse effects were gastrointestinal side effects, which occurred in 21 patients (65.6%), but all were mild and easily corrected. Only one patient discontinued KDT due to nephrolithiasis. Significance KDT is effective in treating early onset genetic DEE, and no statistically significant relationship has been found between genotype and effectiveness in this study. KDT is well tolerated in most young patients, with mild and reversible gastrointestinal side effects being the most common, but usually not the reason to discontinue KDT. Plain Language Summary This study evaluated the response and side effects of ketogenic diet therapy (KDT) in patients who had seizures within the first 6 months of life, and were diagnosed with genetic developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE), a type of severe epilepsy with developmental delay caused by gene variants. Thirty‐two patients involving 14 gene variants who started KDT at Beijing Children's Hospital between were included. KDT was effective in treating early onset genetic DEE in this cohort, and patients with STXBP1 variants responded better; however, no statistically significant relationship was found between gene variant and response. Most young patients tolerated KDT well, with mild and reversible gastrointestinal side effects being the most common.

Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a leading cause of ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke and a major contributor to dementia. It occurs mostly in adult patients, rarely in children. COL4A1 is a candidate gene in monogenic CSVD with a wide clinical and neuroimaing spectrum. Here we presented a 12-year-old girl with recurrent dizziness, mild learning difficulties and inability to concentrate, the brain MRI showed diffuse periventricular leukoencephalopathy, lacunes in bilateral centrum semiovale, periventricles and basal ganglia, dilated perivascular spaces in bilateral basal ganglia with brain MRA and MRV were normal, highly mimicked the neuroimaging of CSVD regardless of the young age and no episodes of cerebrovascular events for now. We found no vascular risk factors and excluded other diseases such as primary angitis of central nervous system (PACNS). Then a trio-whole exome sequencing was performed. We found a de novo variant of COL4A1 gene c.2662G>A (p.Gly888Arg). She was finally diagnosed as a MRI-defined covert CSVD case. Though there are no specific treatments, with the very early diagnosis in our patient, excessive physical activity, trauma, anticoagulant therapy should be avoided for possible strokes in her future life. Therefore, genetic screening should be considered in familial cases and also in sporadic cases even in pediatric patients when the brain MRI showed diffuse periventricular leukoencephalopathy, dilated perivascular spaces, as well as microhemorrhage, and deep intracerebral hemorrhages, associated with early onset ischemic strokes or not.

Paraclostridium bifermentans (P.b) is an emerging human pathogen that is phylogenomically close to Paeniclostridium sordellii (P.s), while their populational genomic features and virulence capacity remain understudied. Here, we performed comparative genomic analyses of P.b and compared their pan-genomic features and virulence coding profiles to those of P.s. Our results revealed that P.b has a more plastic pangenome, a larger genome size, and a higher GC content than P.s. Interestingly, the P.b and P.s share similar core-genomic functions, but P.b encodes more functions in nutrient metabolism and energy conversion and fewer functions in host defense in their accessory-genomes. The P.b may initiate extracellular infection processes similar to those of P.s and Clostridium perfringens by encoding three toxin homologs (i.e., microbial collagenase, thiol-activated cytolysin, phospholipase C, which are involved in extracellular matrices degradation and membrane damaging) in their core-genomes. However, P.b is less toxic than the P.s by encoding fewer secretion toxins in the core-genome and fewer lethal toxins in the accessory-genome. Notably, P.b carries more toxins genes in their accessory-genomes, particularly those of plasmid origin. Moreover, three within-species and highly conserved plasmid groups, encoding virulence, gene acquisition, and adaptation, were carried by 25–33% of P.b strains and clustered by isolation source rather than geography. This study characterized the pan-genomic virulence features of P.b for the first time, and revealed that P. bifermentans is an emerging pathogen that can threaten human health in many aspects, emphasizing the importance of phenotypic and genomic characterizations of in situ clinical isolates.

Abstract Interfacial thermal resistance (ITR) is a critical property for the performance of nanostructured devices where phonon mean free paths are larger than the characteristic length scales. The affordable, accurate and reliable prediction of ITR is essential for material selection in thermal management. In this work, the state-of-the-art machine learning methods were employed to realize this. Descriptor selection was conducted to build robust models and provide guidelines on determining the most important characteristics for targets. Firstly, decision tree (DT) was adopted to calculate the descriptor importances. And descriptor subsets with topX highest importances were chosen (topX-DT, X = 20, 15, 10, 5) to build models. To verify the transferability of the descriptors picked by decision tree, models based on kernel ridge regression, Gaussian process regression and K-nearest neighbors were also evaluated. Afterwards, univariate selection (UV) was utilized to sort descriptors. Finally, the top5 common descriptors selected by DT and UV were used to build concise models. The performance of these refined models is comparable to models using all descriptors, which indicates the high accuracy and reliability of these selection methods. Our strategy results in concise machine learning models for a fast prediction of ITR for thermal management applications.

Abstract Background Progressive myoclonic epilepsy (PME) is a group of neurodegenerative diseases with genetic heterogeneity and phenotypic similarities, and many cases remain unknown of the genetic causes. This study is aim to summarize the clinical features and study the genetic causes of PME patients. Methods Sanger sequencing of the target gene, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) panels of epilepsy, trio-based Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) and detection of cytosine-adenine-guanine (CAG) repeat number were used to investigate the genetic causes of PME patients. Results Thirty-eight children with PME whose seizure onset age ranged from 3 months to 12 years were collected from February 2012 to November 2019 in three hospitals in Beijing, China. The seizure types included myoclonic seizures (n = 38), focal seizures (n = 19), generalized tonic-clonie seizure (GTCS) (n = 13), absence seizures (n = 4), atonic seizures (n = 3), epileptic spasms (n = 2) and tonic seizures (n = 1). Twenty-seven cases were sporadic and 11 had family members affected. Established PME-related genes were identified in 30 out of 38 (78.9%) patients who had either recessively inherited or de novo heterozygous mutations. Among these 30 cases, there were 12 cases (31.6%) of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (the causing gene contains TPP1, PPT1, CLN5, CLN6 and MFSD8), two cases of sialidosis (the causing gene is NEU1), two cases of neuronopathic Gaucher disease (the causing gene is GBA), one case of spinal muscular atrophy-progressive myoclonic epilepsy (the causing gene is ASAH1), four cases of KCNC1 mutation-related PME, four cases of KCTD7 mutation-related PME, two cases of TBC1D24 mutation-related PME, one case of GOSR2 related PME, and two of dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy (the causing gene is ATN1). In total, 13 PME genes were identified in our cohort. The etiology was not clear in eight patients. Conclusion PME is a group of clinically and genetically heterogeneous diseases. Genetic diagnosis was clear in 78.9% of PME patients. Various of genetic testing methods could increase the rate of genetic diagnosis. Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL) is the most common etiology of PME in children. Nearly one third PME children were diagnosed with NCL. GOSR2 related PME was in our cohort in Asia for the first time.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the genetic and phenotypic aspects of GABRG2-related epilepsy and its prognosis and to explore the potential prospects for personalized medicine.MethodsThrough a multicenter collaboration in China, we analyzed the genotype-phenotype correlation and antiseizure medication (ASM) of patients with GABRG2-related epilepsy. The three-dimensional protein structure of the GABRG2 variant was modeled to predict the effect of GABRG2 missense variants using PyMOL 2.3 software.ResultsIn 35 patients with GABRG2 variants, 22 variants were de novo, and 18 variants were novel. The seizure onset age was ranged from 2 days after birth to 34 months (median age: 9 months). The seizure onset age was less than 1 year old in 22 patients (22/35, 62.9%). Seizure types included focal seizures (68.6%), generalized tonic-clonic seizures (60%), myoclonic seizures (14.3%), and absence seizures (11.4%). Other clinical features included fever-sensitive seizures (91.4%), cluster seizures (57.1%), and developmental delay (45.7%). Neuroimaging was abnormal in 2 patients, including dysplasia of the frontotemporal cortex and delayed myelination of white matter. Twelve patients were diagnosed with febrile seizures plus, eleven with epilepsy and developmental delay, two with Dravet syndrome, two with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy, two with focal epilepsy, two with febrile seizures, and four with unclassified epilepsy. The proportions of patients with missense variants in the extracellular region and the transmembrane region exhibiting developmental delay were 40% and 63.2%, respectively. The last follow-up age ranged from 11 months to 17 years. Seizures were controlled in 71.4% of patients, and 92% of their seizures were controlled by valproate and/or levetiracetam.ConclusionThe clinical features of GABRG2-related epilepsy included seizure onset, usually in infancy, and seizures were fever-sensitive. More than half of the patients had cluster seizures. Phenotypes of GABRG2-related epilepsy were ranged from mild febrile seizures to severe epileptic encephalopathies. Most patients with GABRG2 variants who experienced seizures had a good prognosis. Valproate and levetiracetam were effective treatments for most patients.

Background: BTBD10 serves as an activator of Akt family members through decreasing the protein phosphatase 2A-mediated dephosphorylation. The present study attempted to investigate the prognostic value of BTBD10 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), specially, its relationship with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs).Methods: BTBD10 expression was evaluated in HCC using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Xijing Hospital database, and verified in HCC cell lines. Cox analyses were performed to analyze independent prognostic risk factors for HCC. The optimal cut-off value of BTBD10 was calculated, by which all patients were divided into two groups to compare the overall survival (OS). The signaling pathways were predicted, by which BTBD10 may affect the progression of HCC. To investigate the impact of BTBD10 on HCC immunotherapy, correlations between BTBD10 and TILs, immune checkpoints, m6A methylation-related genes and ferroptosis-related genes were assessed. The distribution of half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of diverse targeted drugs was observed based on the differential expression of BTBD10.Results: BTBD10 expression was higher in HCC tissues and cell lines than that of normal liver tissues and cells. The patients with high expression of BTBD10 showed a worse OS, as compared to that of BTBD10 low-expressing group. Cox analyses indicated that BTBD10 was an independent prognostic risk factor for HCC. Several molecular pathways of immune responses were activated in HCC patients with high-expressing of BTBD10. Furthermore, BTBD10 expression was demonstrated to be positively correlated with tumor-infiltrating B cells, T cells, macrophages, neutrophils and dendritic cells. Meanwhile, the expression of BTBD10 was synchronized with that of several m6A methylation-related genes, ferroptosis-related genes and immune checkpoints. The IC50 scores of Sorafenib, Navitoclax, Veliparib, Luminespib, and Imatinib were found to be lower in BTBD10 high-expressing HCC group.Conclusion: BTBD10 negatively regulates tumor immunity in HCC and exhibits adverse effect on the prognosis of HCC, which could be a potential target for immunotherapy.

Interfacial thermal resistance (ITR) plays a critical role in the thermal properties of a variety of material systems. Accurate and reliable ITR prediction is vital in the structure design and thermal management of nanodevices, aircraft, buildings, etc. However, because ITR is affected by dozens of factors, traditional models have difficulty predicting it. To address this high-dimensional problem, we employ machine learning and deep learning algorithms in this work. First, exploratory data analysis and data visualization were performed on the raw data to obtain a comprehensive picture of the objects. Second, XGBoost was chosen to demonstrate the significance of various descriptors in ITR prediction. Following that, the top 20 descriptors with the highest importance scores were chosen except for fdensity, fmass, and smass, to build concise models based on XGBoost, Kernel Ridge Regression, and deep neural network algorithms. Finally, ensemble learning was used to combine all three models and predict high melting points, high ITR material systems for spacecraft, automotive, building insulation, etc. The predicted ITR of the Pb/diamond high melting point material system was consistent with the experimental value reported in the literature, while the other predicted material systems provide valuable guidelines for experimentalists and engineers searching for high melting point, high ITR material systems.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ketogenic diet (KD) in patients with Dravet syndrome (DS).Methods: 60 DS patients receiving treatment of KD for more than 12 weeks from 2009 to 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. Modified Johns Hopkins protocol was used to initiate KD. Seizure frequency, electroencephalogram (EEG), cognition, language, and motor function of the patients were assessed. Side effects were monitored and adjusted accordingly. SPSS 23.0 software was used for all statistical analysis.Results: In total, 60 DS patients (34 boys, 26 girls) received treatment of KD for more than 12 weeks, and among them 41 (68.3%) patients remained on the diet for more than 24 weeks, 22 (36.7%) patients for more than 48 weeks. Seizures in 35 patients (58.3%) were reduced by over 50% at 12 weeks, and the KD effect was observed within 2 weeks in most of them. At 24 weeks, 61.1% (25/41) of the patients had a >50% seizure reduction. At 48 weeks, 77.3% (17/22) had an over 50% reduction in their seizure frequency. With the treatment of KD in the 60 DS patients, 10 patients had ever been seizure free for 12 months to 24 months (The median duration was 20 months). In 10 KD-effective patients, the background rhythm of their EEG showed obvious improvement, and interictal epileptic discharges decreased significantly. Cognitive function of 22 patients was improved. Language progressed in 14 patients. Motor function was improved in 13 patients. The efficacy of KD in DS patients did not correlate with the seizure onset age, the starting age of KD treatment, the SCN1A mutation and the numbers of antiepileptic drugs combined with KD treatment. The main adverse reactions of KD in the treatment process were gastrointestinal symptoms and metabolic disorders.Conclusions: KD treatment in DS patients has many advantages, including working rapidly, being effective in more than half of the DS patients and tolerable adverse reactions. Pharmoco-resistant DS patients are suggested to receive KD treatment.

A high-sensitivity mechano-luminescent sensor was fabricated on the basis of piezoelectric/electroluminescent composites. The working principle of this mechano-luminescent sensor was elucidated by analyzing the relationship between the piezoelectric-induced charges and the electroluminescent effects. When a stress is applied on the piezoelectric layer, electrical charges will be induced at both the top and bottom sides of the piezoelectric layer. The induced electrical charges will lead to a light output from the electroluminescent layer, thus producing a mechano-luminescence effect. By increasing the vibration strength or frequency applied, the mechano-luminescence output can be obviously enhanced. Mechano-luminescence sensors have potential in smart stress-to-light devices, such as foot-stress-distribution-diagnosis systems and dynamic-load-monitors for bridge hanging cables.

The total content of light rare earth elements (LREEs) in the soil of navel orange orchards of Gannan area is greater than that of heavy rare earth elements (HREEs). Appropriate content of LREE can not only promote the growth of navel oranges, and it is also conducive to human health. On the basis of exploring the correlations between the content of LREE in the soil of navel orange orchards of Gannan area and the contents of LREE in navel orange leaves and fruit, the influence mechanism of LREEs on the quality of navel oranges was revealed. In this study, with two Newhall navel orange orchards with different soil LREEs background levels in Xinfeng County as the research object, the changes in the content of LREE (lanthanum, La; cerium, Ce; praseodymium, Pr; neodymium, Nd) in leaves and fruit of navel orange at different growth stages were analyzed using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), and the correlations between the content of LREE in the soil, navel orange leaves and navel orange fruit were studied. The results showed that the content of the four kinds of LREEs in the soil ranked as Ce > La > Nd > Pr, and there were significant differences among tem (P<0.01). Navel orange leaves and fruit have selective and heterogenic absorption for LREEs. At different growth stages, La showed the highest accumulation amount in the leaves and fruit of navel orange; and the content of LREE in the leaves of navel orange increased first and then decreased, while tat in the fruit of navel orange showed continuous decrease. During the migration of LREEs from soil to leaves to fruit, the content of LREE decreased rapidly as the migration distance increased. The accumulation amount of LREE in navel orange was positively correlated with the content of LREE in the soil. The correlation between the content of LREE in the leaves and fruit of navel orange was greatest. Among the four kinds of LREEs, the correlation of La was greatest, followed by Ce, indicating that the accumulation amount of LREE in the navel orange body was affected by the element types. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has attracted a great deal of attention to its unique properties in recent years. In this work, a scalable and green method was developed for the production of high-quality MoS2 nanosheets using shear-assisted supercritical CO2 exfoliation. Our experiments indicate that high temperature, pressure, and shearing speed are favorable to the exfoliation of MoS2. It is found that over 95% of the exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets are less than 10 layers, among which about 50% are 1–4 layers. Raman spectra and XRD patterns reveal that few-layer MoS2 nanosheets with high planar crystal structure are successfully prepared. Moreover, the produced MoS2 has a better stability in N-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP) than the bulk MoS2. The concentration of the exfoliated MoS2 in NMP after sedimentation for 7 days is as high as 0.97 mg/ml. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present study, we used a culture-independent method based on library construction and sequencing to analyse the genetic diversity of the ammonia monooxygenase genes (amoA) of ammonia-oxidising archaea and bacteria in seven different estuarine sediments of Poyang Lake. The total of 67 and 38 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) (similarity <95%) of archaeal (AOA) and bacterial (AOB) amoA genes were retrieved respectively. AOA had higher diversity of amoA genes than did AOB. Phylogenetic analysis showed that AOA amoA sequences were closely related to amoA sequences from Crenarchaeota, Thaumarchaeota and some other uncultured archaea. Fragments from AOB were most associated with sequences from betaproteobacteria and some other uncultured bacteria. On the basis of Kendall's correlation coefficient, there was a significant positive correlation between AOA amoA gene diversity and temperature, and the AOB diversity was positively correlated with total nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen concentration, and negatively correlated with pH in the sediments, suggesting that AOA and AOB were probably sensitive to several environmental factors. Our work could enhance our understanding of the roles of ammonia-oxidising microorganisms in these seven estuarine sediments from Poyang Lake. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Degradation of rice straw by cooperative microbial activities is at present the most attractive alternative to fuels and provides a basis for biomass conversion. The use of microbial consortia in the biodegradation of lignocelluloses could reduce problems such as incomplete synergistic enzymes, end-product inhibition, and so on. In this study, a cellulolytic microbial consortium was enriched from the hindgut of Holotrichia parallela larvae via continuous subcultivation (20 subcultures in total) under static conditions. The degradation ratio for rice straw was about 83.1% after three days of cultivation, indicating its strong cellulolytic activity. The diversity analysis results showed that the bacterial diversity and richness decreased during the consortium enrichment process, and the consortium enrichment process could lead to a significant enrichment of phyla Proteobacteria and Spirochaetes, classes Clostridia, Epsilonproteobacteria, and Betaproteobacteria, and genera Arcobacter, Treponema, Comamonas, and Clostridium. Some of these are well known as typical cellulolytic and hemicellulolytic microorganisms. Our results revealed that the microbial consortium identified herein is a potential candidate for use in the degradation of waste lignocellulosic biomass and further highlights the hindgut of the larvae as a reservoir of extensive and specific cellulolytic and hemicellulolytic microbes. We report the response of the electrical conductivity of semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) thin films on exposure to metal vapors of the early lanthanides under high vacuum conditions. Rabbit hemorrhagic disease was described in China in 1984 and can cause hemorrhagic necrosis of the liver within two or three days after infection. The etiological agent, rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV), belongs to the Lagovirus genus in the Caliciviridae family. Compared to other calicivirus, such as rNV and SMSV, the structure of Lagovirus members is not well characterized. In this report, structures of two types of wild RHDV particles, the intact virion and the core-like particle (CLP), were reconstructed by cryo-electron microscopy at 11 Å and 17 Å, respectively. This is the first time the 3D structure of wild caliciviruses CLP has been provided, and the 3D structure of intact RHDV virion is the highest resolution structure in Lagovirus. Comparison of the intact virion and CLP structures clearly indicated that CLP was produced from the intact virion with the protrusion dissociated. In contrast with the crystal structures of recombinant Norovirus and San Miguel sea lion virus, the capsomers of RHDV virion exhibited unique structural features and assembly modes. Both P1 and P2 subdomains have interactions inside the AB capsomer, while only P2 subdomains have interaction inside CC capsomer. The pseudo atomic models of RHDV capsomers were constructed by homology modeling and density map fitting, and the rotation of RHDV VP60 P domain with respect to its S domain, compared with SMSV, was observed. Collectively, our cryo-electron microscopic studies of RHDV provide close insight into the structure of Lagovirus, which is important for functional analysis and better vaccine development in the future. The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) can produce good ocean colour products in the open sea. However, an atmospheric correction problem continues to occur for turbid coastal water environment monitoring. In this communication, a regional atmospheric correction method based on an artificial neural network (ANN) model has been proposed. The ANN model was built according to differences in the spatial and radiometric characteristics between the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) and GOCI, with 3000 pixels of the top-of-atmosphere (TOA) reflectance of seven GOCI images from 2011 to 2012 above turbid water used as the inputs and coinciding validated remote-sensing reflectance (Rrs) of MERIS used as the outputs. Subsequently, the water-leaving reflectance of GOCI in turbid coastal water areas of the Bohai Sea was derived. Compared with the products produced by the standard GOCI Data Processing System (GDPS Version 1.3), the Rrs retrieved according to the proposed method showed a significant improvement in spatial pattern. Although the ANN model displayed a degree of difficulty in representing high water-leaving reflectance values, a comparison with three in situ measurements collected on 11 November 2011 in the study area showed encouraging results.
