1. Depolarization of intense laser beams by dynamic plasma density gratings

Abstract

As a typical plasma-based optical element that can sustain ultra-high light intensity, plasma density gratings driven by intense laser pulses have been extensively studied for wide applications. Here, we show that the plasma density grating driven by two intersecting driver laser pulses is not only nonuniform in space but also varies over time. Consequently, the probe laser pulse that passes through such a dynamic plasma density grating will be depolarized, that is, its polarization becomes spatially and temporally variable. More importantly, the laser depolarization may spontaneously take place for crossed laser beams if their polarization angles are arranged properly. The laser depolarization by a dynamic plasma density grating may find application in mitigating parametric instabilities in laser-driven inertial confinement fusion.

Abstract

Abstract We report the first measurement of the absolute branching fraction of the inclusive decay $$\Lambda _c^+ \rightarrow K_S^0X$$ Λ c + → K S 0 X . The analysis is performed using an $$e^+e^-$$ e + e - collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 567 $$\hbox {pb}^{-1}$$ pb - 1 taken at $$\sqrt{s}$$ s = 4.6 GeV with the BESIII detector. Using eleven Cabibbo-favored $${\bar{\Lambda }}_c^-$$ Λ ¯ c - decay modes and the double-tag technique, this absolute branching fraction is measured to be $${\mathcal {B}}(\Lambda _c^+ \rightarrow K_S^0X)=(9.9\pm 0.6\pm 0.4)\%$$ B ( Λ c + → K S 0 X ) = ( 9.9 ± 0.6 ± 0.4 ) % , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The relative deviation between the branching fractions for the inclusive decay and the observed exclusive decays is $$(18.7\pm 8.3)\%$$ ( 18.7 ± 8.3 ) % , which indicates that there may be some unobserved decay modes with a neutron or excited baryons in the final state.

Abstract

Abstract Using a sample of $$1.31\times 10^{9} ~J/\psi $$ 1.31×109J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform a study of $$J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma K{\bar{K}}\eta '$$ J/ψ→γKK¯η′ . X(2370) is observed in the $$K{\bar{K}}\eta '$$ KK¯η′ invariant-mass distribution with a statistical significance of $$8.3\sigma $$ 8.3σ . Its resonance parameters are measured to be $$M=2341.6\pm 6.5 \, \text {(stat.)} \pm 5.7 \, \text {(syst.)}~ \hbox {MeV}/c^{2}$$ M=2341.6±6.5(stat.)±5.7(syst.)MeV/c2 and $$\Gamma = 117\pm 10 \, \text {(stat.)}\pm 8 \, \text {(syst.)}~\hbox {MeV}$$ Γ=117±10(stat.)±8(syst.)MeV . The product branching fractions for $$J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2370),X(2370)\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}\eta '$$ J/ψ→γX(2370),X(2370)→K+K-η′ and $$J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2370),X(2370)\rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0}\eta '$$ J/ψ→γX(2370),X(2370)→KS0KS0η′ are determined to be $$(1.79\pm 0.23\, \text {(stat.)}\pm 0.65\,\text {(syst.)})\times 10^{-5}$$ (1.79±0.23(stat.)±0.65(syst.))×10-5 and $$(1.18\pm 0.32\, \text {(stat.)}\pm 0.39\, \text {(syst.)})\times 10^{-5}$$ (1.18±0.32(stat.)±0.39(syst.))×10-5 , respectively. No evident signal for X(2120) is observed in the $$K{\bar{K}}\eta '$$ KK¯η′ invariant-mass distribution. The upper limits for the product branching fractions of $${\mathcal {B}}(J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2120)\rightarrow \gamma K^{+} K^{-} \eta ')$$ B(J/ψ→γX(2120)→γK+K-η′) and $${\mathcal {B}}(J/\psi \rightarrow \gamma X(2120)\rightarrow \gamma K_{S}^{0} K_{S}^{0} \eta ')$$ B(J/ψ→γX(2120)→γKS0KS0η′) are determined to be $$1.49\times 10^{-5}$$ 1.49×10-5 and $$6.38\times 10^{-6}$$ 6.38×10-6 at the 90% confidence level, respectively.

Abstract We measure the branching fractions for seven D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ two-body decays to pseudo-scalar mesons, by analyzing data collected at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 4.178 ∼ 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Abstract

This paper reports the comparison of determination methods for extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) adulteration with two kinds of oils, refined olive oil (ROO) and soybean oil by 19FNMR, 1H NMR and chemical titration. The determination of adulteration of EVOO with ROO by 19F NMR was comparable to the conventional method. The contents of oleic, linoleic and linolenic acids of different oil samples can be determined by both 1H NMR and GC-MS. The results obtained from the two methods showed little differences. The adulteration of EVOO with soybean oil is detected by 1H NMR, although the limit of detection of the adulteration level is not less than 4.5%. The research demonstrates that 19F NMR can be a fast and convenient method to detect EVOO if it is adulterated with ROO and 1H NMR can be a fast and convenient method to detect EVOO if it is adulterated with seed oils.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate protein expression patterns of liver in response to subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) induced by high-concentrate diet. Sixteen healthy mid-lactating goats were randomly divided into 2 groups and fed either a high-forage (HF) diet or a high-concentrate (HC) diet. The HC diet was expected to induce SARA. After ensuring the occurrence of SARA, liver samples were collected. Proteome analysis with differential in gel electrophoresis technology revealed that, 15 proteins were significantly modulated in liver in a comparison between HF and HC-fed goats. These proteins were found mainly associated with metabolism and energy transfer after identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization/time of flight. The results indicated that glucose, lipid and protein catabolism could be enhanced when SARA occurred. It prompted that glucose, lipid and amine acid in the liver mainly participated in oxidation and energy supply when SARA occurred, which possibly consumed more precursors involved in milk protein and milk fat synthesis. These results suggest new candidate proteins that may contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms that mediate liver adaptation to SARA.

Aims. To examine whether fibrinogen levels are a valuable biomarker for assessing disease severity and monitoring disease progression in patients with diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). Methods. A retrospective study was designed to examine the utility of fibrinogen in estimating disease severity in patients with DFU admitted to our hospital between January 2015 and January 2016. In total, 152 patients with DFU were enrolled in the study group, and 52 age and gender matched people with diabetes but no DFU were included as the control group. DFU severity was assessed using Wagner criteria. Results. Patients with DFU were divided into 2 subgroups based on the Wagner criteria. Mean fibrinogen values were significantly higher in patients with DFU grade ≧ 3 compared to those with DFU grades 1-2 (5.23 ± 1.37 g/L versus 3.61 ± 1.04 g/L). Using ROC statistic, a cut-off value of 5.13 g/L indicated the possible amputation with a sensitivity of 81.8% and a specificity of 78.9% (positive predictive value [PPV] 78.6%, negative predictive value [89.0%]). Fibrinogen values were found to be correlated with CRP levels, neutrophil, and WBC count. Conclusions. Fibrinogen levels might be a valuable tool for assessing the disease severity and monitoring the disease progression in patients with DFU.

12. Variability of the Asian summer monsoon during the penultimate glacial/interglacial period inferred from stalagmite oxygen isotope records from Yangkou cave, Chongqing, Southwestern China.

Abstract

The orbital-timescale dynamics of the Quaternary Asian summer monsoons (ASM) are frequently attributed to precession-dominated Northern Hemisphere summer insolation. However, this ASM variability is inferred primarily from oxygen isotope records of stalagmites, mainly from Sanbao cave in mainland China, and may not provide a comprehensive picture of ASM evolution. A new spliced stalagmite oxygen isotope record from Yangkou cave tracks summer monsoon precipitation variation from 124-206 thousand years ago in Chongqing, southwest China. When superimposed on the Sanbao record, the Yangkou-inferred precipitation time series is shown to support the strong ASM periods at marine isotope stages (MIS) 6.3, 6.5, and 7.1 and weak ASM intervals at MIS 6.2, 6.4, and 7.0. This consistency confirms that ASM events affected most of mainland China. We show that change in glacial/interglacial (G/IG) ASM intensity was also governed by the Walker Circulation by combining our results with published paleo-Pacific thermal and salinity records. One of the strongest ASM events over the past fiver G/IG cycles, at MIS 6.5, was enhanced by such zonal forcing associated with prevailing trade winds in the Pacific. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

13. Association of LPR5 Polymorphism with Bone Mass Density and Cholesterol Level in Population of Chinese Han.

Abstract

Recently, two single nucleotide polymorphisms, rs4355801 near the osteoprotegerin (OPG) gene and rs3736228 in the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 (LRP5) gene, were found to be associated with osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures in Caucasians in a genome wide association study. In the present study, we investigated the association between these two SNPs (rs4355801 and rs3736228) and bone mass density (BMD), whole body T score and metabolic phenotypes (e.?g., body mass index, glucose, triglyceride, and total cholesterol) in 425 Chinese Han subjects. We observed a significant association between rs3736228 in LRP5 and hip BMD, total BMD, and T score. The level of hip BMD, total BMD, and T score was significantly reduced with the number of at risk T alleles (p=0.006, p=0.003, and p=0.006, respectively). This finding was still significant after accounting for gender and age. We also observed a significant association between rs3736228 and total cholesterol (CHO) levels in our sample. The CHO levels of the CC, CT, and TT genotypes were 4.71, 4.76, and 5.24, respectively (p=0.031). For OPG rs4355801, the level of hip BMD, spine BMD, and total BMD was consistently reduced in persons with the copy of A allele, but none of these findings were statistically significant. We also did not observe a significant association between the above two polymorphisms and body mass index, glucose, and triglyceride levels in Chinese Han subjects. Thus, our observations support the association between rs3736228 and BMD in Han subjects. The power efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes was significantly improved by introducing a novel n-doping (4'7- diphyenyl-1, 10-phenanthroline: 33 wt% 8-hydroxy-quinolinato lithium) layer as an electron transport layer and a p-doping layer composed of 4, 4', 4''-tris (3-methylphenylphenylamono) triphenylamine (m-MTDATA) and tetrafluro-tetracyano-quinodimethane (F4-TCNQ) as a hole transport layer. Hole-only and electron-only devices were demonstrated to observe an improvement in the conductivity of the transport layers. With this strategy, we demonstrated that the power efficiency was enhanced by [?]100%, luminous efficiency was enhanced by [?]54% while driving voltage was reduced by 32% as compared with the control device. We obtained a power efficiency of 4.44 Lm W[?]1, which is the best value so far reported for tris (8- hydroxyquinolinato) aluminium (Alq3)-based emitters. We demonstrate highly efficient Alq3-based p-i-n organic light-emitting diodes by using cesium carbonate (Cs2CO3)-doped 4'7-diphyenyl-1, 10-phenanthroline (Bphen) as an electron transport layer, and by using molybdenum trioxide (MoO3)-doped N, N'-diphenyl-N, N'-bis(1,1'-biphenyl)-4,4'-diamine (NPB) as a hole transport layer, which could significantly enhance the electron injection and transport, resulting in a large increase in luminance and efficiency. The maximum luminance, current efficiency and power efficiency reach 23 420 cd cm[?]2, 6.4 cd A[?]1 and 5.3 lm W[?]1, respectively, which are much higher than those of the referenced device (without doping). Abstract

Electron injection and transport in organic devices based on electron transport (ET) materials, such as 4,7- diphyenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Bathophenanthroline BPhen), 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Bathocuproine BCP) and bipyridyl oxadiazole compound 1,3-bis [2-(2,2'-bipyridin-6-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]benzene (Bpy-OXD), have been reported. The devices are composed of ITO/ET materials (BPhen, BCP Bpy-OXD)/cathodes, where cathodes = Au, Al and Ca. Current-voltage characteristics of each ET material are performed as a function of cathodes. We have found that Ca and Al exhibit quite different J-V characteristics compared with the gold (Au) cathode. The current is more than one order of magnitude higher for the Al cathode and more than three orders of magnitude higher for Ca compared with that of the Au cathode at [?]8 V for all ET materials. This is because of the relatively low energy barrier at the organic/metal interface for Ca and Al cathodes. Electron-only devices with the Au cathode show that the electron transfer limitation is located at the organic/cathode interface and the Fowler-Nordheim mechanism is qualitatively consistent with experimental data at high voltages. With Ca and Al cathodes, electron conduction is preponderant and is bulk limited. A power law dependence J [?] Vm with m > 2 is consistent with the model of trap-charge limited conduction. The orbital-timescale dynamics of the Quaternary Asian summer monsoons (ASM) are frequently attributed to precession-dominated northern hemispheric summer insolation. However, this long-term continuous ASM variability is inferred primarily from oxygen isotope records of stalagmites, mainly from Sanbao cave in mainland China, and may not provide a comprehensive picture of ASM evolution. A new spliced stalagmite oxygen isotope record from Yangkou cave tracks summer monsoon precipitation variation from 124 to 206 thousand years ago in Chongqing, southwest China. Our Yangkou record supports that the evolution of ASM was dominated by the North Hemisphere solar insolation on orbital timescales. When superimposed on the Sanbao record, the precipitation time series referred from Yangkou cave stalagmites supports the strong ASM periods at marine isotope stages (MIS) 6.3, 6.5, and 7.1 and weak ASM intervals at MIS 6.2, 6.4, and 7.0. This consistency confirms that ASM events affected most of mainland China. Except for the solar insolation forcing, the large amplitude of minimum δ18O values in Yangkou record during glacial period, such as MIS 6.5, could stem from the enhanced prevailing Pacific trade wind and/or continental shelf exposure in the Indo–Pacific warm pool.
