The large size and complexity of most fern genomes have hampered efforts to elucidate fundamental aspects of fern biology and land plant evolution through genome-enabled research. Here we present a chromosomal genome assembly and associated methylome, transcriptome and metabolome analyses for the model fern species Ceratopteris richardii. The assembly reveals a history of remarkably dynamic genome evolution including rapid changes in genome content and structure following the most recent whole-genome duplication approximately 60 million years ago. These changes include massive gene loss, rampant tandem duplications and multiple horizontal gene transfers from bacteria, contributing to the diversification of defence-related gene families. The insertion of transposable elements into introns has led to the large size of the Ceratopteris genome and to exceptionally long genes relative to other plants. Gene family analyses indicate that genes directing seed development were co-opted from those controlling the development of fern sporangia, providing insights into seed plant evolution. Our findings and annotated genome assembly extend the utility of Ceratopteris as a model for investigating and teaching plant biology.

ObjectiveTo determine the epidemiological and etiological characteristics of hand，foot，and mouth disease （HFMD） in Pujiang County from 2008 through 2020， so as to provide scientific evidence for prevention and control measures.MethodsDescriptive epidemiological analysis was used to analyze HFMD cases retrieved in the Chinese Information System for Disease Control and Prevention in Pujiang County during 2008‒2020.ResultsFrom 2008 through 2020， a total of 9 393 cases were documented in Pujiang County， with an annual incidence of 182.3 per 100 000， showing a trend of alternating high-incidence and low-incidence years. The seasonal distribution was bimodal， and the incidence peaked in May-July and November-December. The incidence of HFMD in urban areas was significantly higher than that in rural areas， and the incidence was positively correlated with population density. Majority of cases （94.9%） were children under 5 years old， of which boys had higher incidence than girls. The number of documented cases was the highest among preschool children living in families and kindergartens， accounting for 97.3%. Totally， 558 cases were laboratory confirmed in Pujiang County in 2008-2020， of which severe cases were all caused by EV71 infection.ConclusionEnterovirus serotypes in HFMD have continually changed from 2008 through 2020 in Pujiang County. However， severe HFMD remains principally attributable to EV71 infection， suggesting that it is necessary to strengthen the surveillance on the etiology of HFMD. In addition， it warrants further promotion of EV71 vaccination.

We investigate the extent of investors' awareness of the bubble risk of assets' fundamental value by examining Chinese listed companies' goodwill bubbles. We find that firms with larger goodwill have a higher possibility of goodwill impairment recognition in the future, indicating a higher bubble risk of companies' assets fundamental. Next, we find that firms with more goodwill experience lower stock returns in subsequent 1–3 years, which means investors do not demand corresponding risk compensation and underestimate the goodwill bubble risk for these firms. Furthermore, we investigate five behavioral biases driving investors to underestimate the bubble risk. The results show that investors' gambling preference for bubble assets is the key driver, while investors limited attention, extrapolation, opinion divergence, and earnings expectation are not applicable in our setting. The new development pattern has identified two key avenues for the sustained advancement of high-quality agricultural and rural development: digitalisation and low-carbon development. The measurement of the digital economy and the agricultural carbon emission performance, and their spatial and temporal heterogeneity, is a crucial step in promoting the spatial coordination and sustainable development of digitalisation and low-carbon agriculture. This paper employs the entropy value method, SBM model, and coupling coordination degree model to investigate the coupling coordination measurement and spatial-temporal heterogeneity of the performance of the digital economy and agricultural carbon emissions. The data used are provincial panel data from 2013 to 2021. The simulation results demonstrate that, between 2013 and 2021, the digital economy of all provinces exhibited varying degrees of growth, yet the development of the digital economy between provinces exhibited a more pronounced tendency to diverge. Concurrently, the agricultural carbon emission efficiency in China exhibited a fluctuating upward trend. The development of the digital economy and the efficiency of agricultural carbon emission were found to be highly coupled. Their coupling and coordination relationship showed a downward trend followed by an upward trend. In general, it is suggested that we should increase investment in digital economy infrastructure and technology, promote digital agricultural applications, strengthen policy guidance and financial support, establish a coupling coordination mechanism and strengthen farmers' digital literacy and environmental awareness. Object detection plays a crucial role in autonomous driving assistance systems. It requires high accuracy for prediction, a small size for deployment on mobile devices, and real-time inference speed to ensure safety. In this paper, we present a compact and efficient algorithm called YOLOX with United Attention Head (UAH-YOLOX) for detection in autonomous driving scenarios. By replacing the backbone network with GhostNet for feature extraction, the model reduces the number of parameters and computational complexity. By adding a united attention head before the YOLO head, the model effectively detects the scale, position, and contour features of targets. In particular, an attention module called Spatial Self-Attention is designed to extract spatial location information, demonstrating great potential in detection. In our network, the IOU Loss (Intersection of Union) has been replaced with CIOU Loss (Complete Intersection of Union). Further experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed methods on the BDD100k dataset and the Caltech Pedestrian dataset. UAH-YOLOX achieves state-of-the-art results by improving the detection accuracy of the BDD100k dataset by 1.70% and increasing processing speed by 3.37 frames per second (FPS). This study constructed a multidimensional indicator system to evaluate spatio-temporal heterogeneity of China's import and export trade of 31 provinces from 2000 to 2022. This study describes the distribution of China's import and export trade by using location Gini coefficient and exploratory spatial analysis. Additionally, Multiple linear regression was used to ascertain the extent of contribution by various factors on the spatio-temporal heterogeneity of import and export trade. The simulation results show that inter-provincial import and export trade displayed distinct spatio-temporal differentiation characteristics with a prominent east-to-west disparity from 2000 to 2022. The trade links between various regions of the country have gradually strengthened, with a corresponding high correlation to the level of economic development. GDP, financial expenditure, freight transportation volume, technology market turnover, foreign investment, and disposable income of all residents, significantly influence the per capita export and import volume. In general, it is suggested that China and developing countries should take effective measures to promote balanced trade development, strengthen regional cooperation and coordination, and promote green trade and sustainable development. Salient object detection (SOD) aims to identify the most visually striking objects in a scene, simulating the function of the biological visual attention system. The attention mechanism in deep learning is commonly used as an enhancement strategy which enables the neural network to concentrate on the relevant parts when processing input data, effectively improving the model's learning and prediction abilities. Existing saliency object detection methods based on RGB deep learning typically treat all regions equally by using the extracted features, overlooking the fact that different regions have varying contributions to the final predictions. Based on the U2Net algorithm, this paper incorporates the split coordinate channel attention (SCCA) mechanism into the feature extraction stage. SCCA conducts spatial transformation in width and height dimensions to efficiently extract the location information of the target to be detected. While pixel-level semantic segmentation based on annotation has been successful, it assigns the same weight to each pixel which leads to poor performance in detecting the boundary of objects. In this paper, the Canny edge detection loss is incorporated into the loss calculation stage to improve the model's ability to detect object edges. Based on the DUTS and HKU-IS datasets, experiments confirm that the proposed strategies effectively enhance the model's detection performance, resulting in a 0.8% and 0.7% increase in the F1-score of U2Net. This paper also compares the traditional attention modules with the newly proposed attention, and the SCCA attention module achieves a top-three performance in prediction time, mean absolute error (MAE), F1-score, and model size on both experimental datasets. Matteuccia struthiopteris is one of the most globally consumed edible ferns and widely used in folk medicine. Reports mainly focus on young fronds and the rhizome which are common edible medicinal parts. However, there are few detailed reports on other parts. Therefore, the volatile components of different parts based on HS-SPME-GC-MS were identified, and total flavonoid contents, antioxidant activities and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activities were compared in order to reveal the difference of volatile components and potential medicinal value of different parts. The results showed that total flavonoid contents, antioxidant activities and volatile components of different parts were obviously different. The crozier exhibited the strongest antioxidant activities, but only underground parts exhibited a dose-dependent inhibition potential against AChE. Common volatile compounds were furfural and 2-furancarboxaldehyde, 5-methyl-. In addition, it was found that some volatile components from adventitious root, trophophyll, sporophyll and petiole were important ingredients in food, cosmetics, industrial manufacturing and pharmaceutical applications. Transdermal drug delivery systems are rapidly gaining prominence and have found widespread application in the treatment of numerous diseases. However, they encounter the challenge of a low transdermal absorption rate. Microneedles can overcome the stratum corneum barrier to enhance the transdermal absorption rate. Among various types of microneedles, nanoparticle-loaded dissolving microneedles (DMNs) present a unique combination of advantages, leveraging the strengths of DMNs (high payload, good mechanical properties, and easy fabrication) and nanocarriers (satisfactory solubilization capacity and a controlled release profile). Consequently, they hold considerable clinical application potential in the precision medicine era. Despite this promise, no nanoparticle-loaded DMN products have been approved thus far. The lack of understanding regarding their in vivo fate represents a critical bottleneck impeding the clinical translation of relevant products. This review aims to elucidate the current research status of the in vivo fate of nanoparticle-loaded DMNs and elaborate the necessity to investigate the in vivo fate of nanoparticle-loaded DMNs from diverse aspects. Furthermore, it offers insights into potential entry points for research into the in vivo fate of nanoparticle-loaded DMNs, aiming to foster further advancements in this field. Cereal–legume intercropping has the potential to reduce the use of nitrogen (N) fertilizer and increase forage yield and quality, however, how to optimize system design to fully realize interspecific complementary and enhance crop production in an annual and perennial crops intercropping was not well understood. This study was conducted to evaluate the interspecific interaction and yield performance of silage maize (Zea mays L.) and alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) intercropping in response to N management and row arrangement under the rain‐fed conditions on the Chinese Loess Plateau. Five planting arrangements, namely, sole maize, sole alfalfa, and maize and alfalfa intercropping in rows of 1:2 (I12), 2:2 (I22), and 2:4 (I24), were compared over a period of 4 years (2018–2021). Two N‐levels (150 and 90 kg N ha−1) were applied to maize in each planting arrangement. Our results show that maize was the dominant species in 2018. In the next 3 years (2019–2021), maize was outcompeted by alfalfa during the first and second cuts of alfalfa, and complete recovery growth of maize was recorded at the third cut. The interspecific competition of I24 was less severe, resulting in a higher yield than I12 and I22. Although the reduction of N application reduced the biomass and crude protein (CP) yield, it weakened the interspecific competition and substantially increased the land equivalent ratio (LER). I24 under low N yielded more than sole cropping, with the LER based on biomass and CP yield of 1.01–1.12 and 1.08–1.18, respectively. In addition, I24 had the highest net revenue of 24,251 ¥ ha−1 on average. Therefore, maize/alfalfa intercrop with a higher alfalfa proportion and a wide strip arrangement (I24) in combination with low N application could alleviate interspecific competition and improve forage production, which is suggested for our study region and similar dryland farming areas worldwide. Meloxicam (MLX) is one of the most effective NSAIDs, but its poor water solubility and low bioavailability limit its clinical application. In this study, we designed a thermosensitive in situ gel of the hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex (MLX/HP-β-CD-ISG) for rectal delivery to improve bioavailability. The best method for preparing MLX/HP-β-CD was the saturated aqueous solution method. The optimal inclusion prescription was optimized using an orthogonal test, and the inclusion complex was evaluated via PXRD, SEM, FTIR and DSC. Then, MLX/HP-β-CD-ISG was characterized regarding the gel properties, release in vitro, and pharmacokinetics in vivo. The inclusion rate of the inclusion complex obtained via the optimal preparation process was 90.32 ± 3.81%. The above four detection methods show that MLX is completely embedded in the HP-β-CD cavity. The developed MLX/HP-β-CD-ISG formulation has a suitable gelation temperature of 33.40 ± 0.17 °C, a gelation time of 57.33 ± 5.13 s, pH of 7.12 ± 0.05, good gelling ability and meets the requirements of rectal preparations. More importantly, MLX/HP-β-CD-ISG significantly improved the absorption and bioavailability of MLX in rats, prolonging the rectal residence time without causing rectal irritation. Ischemic stroke is a difficult-to-treat brain disease that may be attributed to a limited therapeutic time window and lack of effective clinical drugs. Nasal–brain administration is characterized by low systemic toxicity and is a direct and non-invasive brain targeting route. Preliminary studies have shown that the volatile oil of Chaxiong (VOC) has an obvious anti-ischemic stroke effect. In this work, we designed a nanoemulsion thermosensitive in situ gel (VOC-NE-ISG) loaded with volatile oil of Chaxiong for ischemia via intranasal delivery to rat brain treatment of cerebral ischemic stroke. The developed VOC-NE-ISG formulation has a suitable particle size of 21.02 ± 0.25 nm and a zeta potential of −20.4 ± 1.47 mV, with good gelling ability and prolonged release of the five components of VOC. The results of in vivo pharmacokinetic studies and brain targeting studies showed that intranasal administration of VOC-NE-ISG could significantly improve the bioavailability and had excellent brain-targeting efficacy of nasal-to-brain delivery. In addition, the results of pharmacodynamics experiments showed that both VOC-NE and VOC-NE-ISG could reduce the neurological deficit score of model rats, reducing the size of cerebral infarction, with a significant effect on improving ischemic stroke. Cyst nematodes are one of the most important pathogens worldwide. Most cyst nematode species have been reported recently in China. From 2016 to 2020, an extensive survey of cyst nematodes was conducted in the Bashang region of Hebei Province. A total of 158 soil samples were collected, and cyst-forming nematodes were isolated from five soil samples. Morphological and molecular characterization showed that four of the cyst-forming nematode populations were Heterodera glycines (SCN), named populations of ZM, KM, CB and FN, respectively. These SCN populations were collected from Zhangbei County, Kangbao County, Chabei Management Area of Zhangjiakou and Fengning Manchu Autonomous County of Chengde, respectively, where the corresponding cyst densities were 57, 41, 103 and 31 cysts/200 cc soil. Furthermore, the populations of ZM, KM and CB were identified as race 4, whereas the FN population was identified as race 3. The cyst-forming nematode population was collected from Zhangbei County of Zhangjiakou, which was confirmed to be Heterodera schachtii (SBCN), named population ZZ, and the cyst density was 94 cysts/200 cc soil. It is a new disease of Chinese cabbage caused by SBCN based on Koch's postulates. Fourteen cultivars from five plant families were evaluated as hosts for SBCN. Chinese cabbage (cv. Linglonghuang012) and cabbage (cv. Chunwang) were suitable hosts, while celery (cv. Yuhuang), potato (cv. Helan 15) and eggplant (cv. Junlang) were nonhosts. The obtained results regarding the occurrence, distribution, races of SCN and hosts of SBCN in the Bashang region in this study provide a reference for SCN and SBCN management. There is a great need for improving oat forage production to increase forage supply and protect grassland ecosystems on the Tibetan Plateau. We conducted two field experiments and modeling work to investigate the responses of oat (Avena sativa L.) forage yield and N uptake to water and N applications, and to optimize the water and N scheduling under rainfed and irrigated conditions. The experiments were conducted in 2017 and 2018 at Jintai farm in the northeast of the Tibetan Plateau. Two N-applying rates of 120 and 60 kg ha−1 were tested in 2017, and four irrigation treatments (no irrigation—NI, irrigated 50 mm at flowering—I1, irrigated 50 mm at tillering and jointing—I2, and irrigated 50 mm at tillering, jointing, and flowering—I3) were applied under every N rate in 2018. The Agricultural Production System Simulator (APSIM) was calibrated and validated for the local oat variety. Under rainfed conditions in both years, oat yields under high and low N were 7.98–8.52 and 5.09–6.53 t ha−1, respectively; the high N rate significantly increased forage yield and N uptake compared to low N conditions by 22.2–67.4% (p < 0.01) and 42.0–162.0% (p < 0.01), respectively. In 2018, irrigation increased oat forage yield by 29.8–96.6% (p < 0.01) and increased N uptake by 19.6–50.5% (p > 0.05); N rates had no significant effect on forage yield (p > 0.05), but significantly increased N uptake by 42.6–64.7% (p < 0.01). I2 was superior to I3 in terms of increasing water use efficiency (WUE) while maintaining high forage yield and N uptake. APSIM-oat was calibrated with data under both rainfed and irrigated conditions and was confirmed to have good accuracy and lower normalized root mean square errors (NRMSEs) for phonology dates, forage yield, soil water storage, and N uptake. Scenario analysis was performed with 30-year historical weather data; five N rates were designed for rainfed conditions, and 25 scenarios comprising five N rates and five irrigation levels were designed for irrigated conditions. Simulations showed that the N rate of 90 kg ha−1 resulted in the best performance for oat under rainfed conditions. Under irrigated conditions, irrigation promoted oat nitrogen uptake. Thus, overall an N rate of 120 kg ha−1 in combination with irrigation of 120 mm applied during the vegetative growth period performed the best. This optimized strategy may provide guidance on water and N management of oat forage production in the Tibetan Plateau and similar alpine regions worldwide. Series–parallel forward dc–dc converter system is a good option in high-voltage high-power applications. A switch fault, in this converter, should be detected as soon as possible, to avoid further damage and save maintenance cost. In this paper, a new switch fault diagnosis method, which treats output inductor voltages as diagnostic criteria, is proposed for this system. With the proposed method, expensive sensors are needless, since diagnostic signal can be easily acquired by adding a small auxiliary winding into inductor magnetic core. Based on the feature of diagnostic signals in such a system, a low-cost diagnostic circuit is designed. The failed module caused by open-circuit fault or short-circuit fault could be detected within one switching period, allowing for an immediate fault-tolerant action. This method also shows generality for different connections and buck-type isolated topologies. Besides, it works reliably under input-voltage variation and load step, and no misdiagnosis will occur during normal dynamic process. Finally, experimental result verifies the effectiveness of this method. The proposed scheme has a good potential to be applied in real applications for its simplicity and robustness. We report the modular and facile synthesis of three novel polymers able to photodegrade by UV and visible light via the Passerini multicomponent polymerizations of 1,6‐hexanedioic acid and 1,6‐diisocyanohexane with 5‐methoxy‐2‐nitrobenzaldehyde (M2), 4,5‐dimethoxy‐2‐nitrobenzaldehyde (M3) or 7‐(N,N‐diethylamino)‐4‐formylcoumarin (M4) respectively. This synthetic strategy takes the advantage of the in situ formation of a photolabile chromophore via the Passerini reaction of an aromatic aldehyde with an acid and an isocyanide, thus it is a versatile approach to regulating the photochemical property of the photolabile chromophores by just changing the aldehyde structure. Ginkgo leaves are raw materials for flavonoid extraction. Thus, the timing of their harvest is important to optimize the extraction efficiency, which benefits the pharmaceutical industry. In this research, we compared the transcriptomes of Ginkgo leaves harvested at midday and midnight. The differentially expressed genes with the highest probabilities in each step of flavonoid biosynthesis were down-regulated at midnight. Furthermore, real-time PCR corroborated the transcriptome results, indicating the decrease in flavonoid biosynthesis at midnight. The flavonoid profiles of Ginkgo leaves harvested at midday and midnight were compared, and the total flavonoid content decreased at midnight. A detailed analysis of individual flavonoids showed that most of their contents were decreased by various degrees. Our results indicated that circadian rhythms affected the flavonoid contents in Ginkgo leaves, which provides valuable information for optimizing their harvesting times to benefit the pharmaceutical industry. The flavonoids in bryophytes may have great significance in phylogeny and metabolism research. However, to date there has been little research on bryophyte metabolites, especially flavonoids. To redress this somewhat, we determined flavonoid concentrations of bryophytes from Tianmu Mountain through a colorimetric assay and considered the factors influencing the results. This is the first time that the flavonoid contents of bryophytes have been examined in detail. The results revealed a range of total flavonoid concentrations in 90 samples collected from Tianmu Mountain from 1.8 to 22.3 mg/g (w/w). The total flavonoid contents of liverworts were generally higher than those of mosses; acrocarpous mosses had generally higher values than that of pleurocarpous mosses. The total flavonoid contents of bryophytes growing at lower light levels were general higher than those growing in full-sun. The total flavonoid contents of epiphytic bryophytes were highest, while those of aquatic bryophytes were the lowest. Total flavonoid contents of species growing at low-latitudes were much higher than those at high-latitude individuals. In conclusion, total flavonoid contents of bryophytes have some connection with plant phylogeny; more flavonoids might be contained in relatively primitive bryophytes. Meanwhile, the effects of ecological factors on total flavonoid contents of bryophytes exist; light and habitat (especially tree habitat and river habitat) might be representative factor. Toxicity of Fe2+is one of the major constraints for lowland rice production in tropical and subtropical areas. The root tip is a primary site of iron (Fe2+) toxicity in rice. To explore the effects of iron toxicity on the morphological and biological characteristics on the border cells in rice (Oryza sativaL.), experiments were carried out using the border cells in two cultivars. The experimental results revealed the following properties of border cells shared by both rice cultivars: the first border cells appeared almost synchronously with the emergence of the primary root tip; the number of border cells reached maximum when the root was 25 mm long; the border cells were most viable when the root length was 20 mm; and the relative activity of pectin methylesterase (PME) was the highest when the root length was 2 mm. The two rice cultivars exhibited different trends in their response to Fe2+toxicity: the number of root border cells in Fe2+-resistant Zhongyou 9288 increased when experiencing low levels of Fe2+treatment, but then declined at higher Fe2+levels. The number of root border cells in Fe2+-sensitive Shanyou No. 10, however, declined rapidly when the concentration of Fe2+increased. The results also showed that Fe2+toxicity hindered the development of root border cells of both rice cultivars, but the Fe2+sensitive variety experienced thickened the root cap cell walls that led to programmed cell death. Four oxoisoaporphine-lipoic acid hybrids were designed, synthesized, and investigated in this study. To develop the hybrids, the oxoisoaporphine fragment was used for its inhibition of cholinesterases and β-amyloid (Aβ) aggregation, while the unit of lipoic acid was used for its radical-capturing and neuroprotective effects. The hybrids exhibited moderate inhibitory effects on the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), with IC 50 values in the micromolar range and low toxicity in SH-SY5Y cells. Moreover, the learning and memory abilities, climbing capability, and average life expectancy of the Aβ42 transgenic Drosophila were all significantly improved by the hybrids. They also enhanced the intracephalic antioxidant activity, the metabolism, and the activity cholinesterase in the flies. More strikingly, Aβ42 aggregation in the hybrids-treated Drosophila was attenuated with effective neuroprotection. The Hani terrace landscape located in the mountainous areas of Southwestern China has a history of 1300 years and is a classic example of human–environment harmony. This study investigates the spatial distribution and pattern characteristics of land cover in the landscape using geographical information system and remote-sensing techniques. With the synthetic consideration of both physical and cultural factors, the ecological stability of the landscape was discussed. The results showed that ‘terrace’ and ‘forest’ are dominant in the landscape accounting for 43.80% and 44.90% of the total area, respectively. A clear vertical land-cover distribution of ‘higher forest–middle village–lower terrace–lowest river’ can be found on steep slopes. The local climate and its variation with elevation are essential for the stable local water cycle, and the spatial layout of the landscape elements allows for effective material and energy flow within the landscape. Moreover, the obligatory forest and water resource conservation due to the unique history and culture of Hani adds a social layer of protection. In recent years, cadmium (Cd) pollution in soil has increased with increasing industrial activities, which has restricted crop growth and agricultural development. The heavy metal ATPase (HMA) gene family contributes to heavy metal stress resistance in plants. In this study, 21 HMA genes (HvHMAs) were identified in barley (Hordeumvulgare L., Hv) using bioinformatics methods. Based on phylogenetic analysis and domain distribution, barley HMA genes were divided into five groups (A–E), and complete analyses were performed in terms of physicochemical properties, structural characteristics, conserved domains, and chromosome localization. The expression pattern analysis showed that most HvHMA genes were expressed in barley and exhibited tissue specificity. According to the fragments per kilobase of exon per million fragments values in shoots from seedlings at the 10 cm shoot stage (LEA) and phylogenetic analysis, five HvHMA genes were selected for expression analysis under Cd stress. Among the five HvHMA genes, three (HvHMA1, HvHMA3, and HvHMA4) were upregulated and two (HvHMA2 and HvHMA6) were downregulated following Cd treatments. The gut-liver axis theory suggests that the intestine and liver are closely related, and that bile acids are important mediators linking the intestine and liver. We compared two cholestasis models: a single injection model that received a single subcutaneous ANIT injection (75 mg/kg), and a multiple subcutaneous injection model that received an injection of ANIT (50 mg/kg) every other day for 2 weeks. We used Transmetil (ademetionine 1,4-butanedisulfonate) to relieve intrahepatic cholestasis in the multiple injection group. In the multiple injection group, we found increased hepatic bile duct hyperplasia, increased fibrosis of the liver, increased small intestine inflammation and oxidative damage, increased harmful bile acids, decreased bile acids transporter levels. After treatment with Transmetil, the liver and gut injuries were relieved. These results suggest that intrahepatic cholestasis can cause disorders of the gut-liver axis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

How evapotranspiration (ET) and its partitioning in agroforestry systems are influenced by canopy structure as well as soil water availability is not well explained. Modeling work was combined with field experiment in this study to investigate the interaction of ET and soil water conditions in an apple tree (Malus pumila M.) and cocksfoot (Dactylis glomerata L.) agroforestry. The experiment was conducted in 2016–2018 in an apple orchard at a spacing of 4 m × 4 m on the Loess Plateau of China. The three tested planting patterns were: monoculture apple tree with clean tillage (CT), agroforestry with 2.4-meter-wide cocksfoot strips between tree rows that harvested frequently to maintain a low coverage (LC), and agroforestry with cocksfoot of a greater coverage (GC). The multi-source ET model developed for intercropping system was improved by considering the effects of large height difference of different species in agroforestry on water vapor transporting resistances, then the improved ET model was combined with a soil water balance model to simulate ET partitioning. Soil water content in 0–200 cm layer, seasonal ET calculated with soil water balance model, and directly measured understorey ET were used to validate the model. Results showed that the root mean square error (NRMSE) for simulated soil water content ranged from 7.3% to 10.1%, and NRMSE for simulated total ET and understorey ET were only 3.9% and 4.2% respectively. Transpiration of apple tree in GC and LC was reduced by 21.3−32.5% and 12.3−24.2% after applying agroforestry, the reduction was mainly attributed to the decrease in soil water content. Planting cocksfoot also reduced soil evaporation by 21.5−27.6%, total ET in the agroforestry was only changed by − 4.9–6.7% compared to CT. Scenario simulation indicated that the negative effects of cocksfoot on apple tree transpiration linearly decreased with increase of the maximum LAI of apple tree and exponentially increased with the increase of strip width of cocksfoot. An 18-year simulation showed that GC and LC reduced the transpiration of apple tree by 7.3% and 2.1% respectively, but did not accelerate soil water depletion in the deep soil layers. Therefore, agroforestry with well managed understorey grain or cover crops is encouraged to be applied in our study area to increase the production and provide ecological services. The WRKY gene family consists of transcription factors that are widely distributed in plants and play a key role in plant growth and development, secondary metabolite synthesis, biotic and abiotic stress responses, and other biological processes. In this study, 86 WRKY proteins were identified from the barley genome database using bioinformatics and were found to be distributed unevenly on seven chromosomes. According to the structure and phylogenetic relationships, the proteins could be classified into three groups and seven subgroups. The multiple sequence alignment results showed that WRKY domains had different conserved sites in different groups or subgroups, and some members had a special heptapeptide motif. Protein and gene structure analysis indicated that there were significant differences between the groups in terms of the distribution of WRKY motifs and the number of introns in barley. Tissue expression pattern analysis demonstrated that the transcription levels of most genes exhibited tissue and growth-stage specificity. In addition, the analysis of cis-elements in the promoter region revealed that almost all HvWRKYs had plant hormone or stress response cis-elements, and there were differences in the numbers between groups. Finally, the transcriptional levels of 15 HvWRKY genes under drought, cadmium, or salt stress were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR. It was found that most of the gene expression levels responded to one or more abiotic stresses. The article reports the new synonyms of Solenostoma, a genus of the plant family Jungermanniaceae, which were discovered from China such as Solenostoma louae and Jungermannia parviperrianth. It mentions that S. louae is treated as a synonym of Solenostoma hasskarlianum and is recognized by distinctive leaf cell trigones and absence of perigynium. It says that Jungermannia parviperriantha is characterized by small plant size and numerous gemmae at the tip of flagelliforms shoots.

Flavonoids play important roles in plant immune responses, but the molecular mechanism and influencing factors on flavonoid accumulation during Ginkgo immune responses are largely unknown. In this research, post-harvest Ginkgo leaves cultured in the dark were treated with salicylic acid (SA). A transcriptome analysis and total flavonoid measurement showed decreased flavonoid biosynthesis and accumulation in leaves. Experiments carried out in seedlings, young and adult trees, showed increased flavonoid content under light conditions but decreased content under dark conditions after treatment with SA. A detailed analysis of individual flavonoids showed similar changes for most of their contents, although some showed different change trends. Single-colored light experiments revealed that red and far-red light, but not blue light, were required in SA-induced flavonoid accumulation. The results clarified the importance of light in SA-induced flavonoid accumulation and provided valuable information to the Ginkgo related pharmaceutical industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
