It results from air entering the inner ear when a communication between the air-filled middle ear spaces and inner ear is established. The imaging modality of choice for pneumolabyrinth is high-resolution computed tomography of the temporal bone. Treatment options include conservative management (bed rest, antibiotics, corticosteroids) or surgery (exploratory tympanotomy). We present the case of a 31-year-old female who had pneumolabyrinth secondary to a temporal bone fracture. The patient was treated surgically and made a full clinical recovery. In this paper, we study intersection configurations – which describe the behaviour of multiple (finite) intersections of subgroups with respect to finite generability – in the realm of free and free times free-abelian (FTFA) groups. We say that a configuration is realizable in a group $G$ if there exist subgroups $H_1,\ldots, H_k \leqslant G$ realizing it. It is well known that free groups ${\mathbb {F}_{n}}$ satisfy the Howson property: the intersection of any two finitely generated subgroups is again finitely generated. We show that the Howson property is indeed the only obstruction for multiple intersection configurations to be realizable within nonabelian free groups. On the contrary, FTFA groups ${\mathbb {F}_{n}} \times \mathbb {Z}^m$ are well known to be non-Howson. We also study multiple intersections within FTFA groups, providing an algorithm to decide, given $k\geq 2$ finitely generated subgroups, whether their intersection is again finitely generated and, in the affirmative case, compute a 'basis' for it. We finally prove that any intersection configuration is realizable in an FTFA group ${\mathbb {F}_{n}} \times \mathbb {Z}^m$ , for $n\geq 2$ and large enough $m$. Objetivo: Diseñar una prueba de PCR para el diagnóstico de la Bartonelosis causada por Bartonella bacilliformis. Materiales y métodos: Se usó la secuencia del locus de invasión ialB para diseñar los oligonucleótidos ialBF y ialBR, además del ADN geonómico purificado de una cepa referencial de B. bacilliformis para estandarizar las condiciones de la prueba. Finalmente, la prueba fue preliminarmente evaluada con 12 cepas de B. bacilliormis aisladas en 3 áreas endémicas y 10 muestras de sangre total de pacientes con Bartonelosis confirmada. Resultados: La prueba detectó el ADN de aislamientos de B. bacilliformis de 3 áreas bartonelósicas endémicas del Perú: Ancash, Cuzco y Lima; mientras que no detectó el ADN de B. hensenlae, ni de B. vinsonii, ni de otras bacterias y parásitos. Además, esta prueba fue positiva para 10 muestras sanguíneas de pacientes con bartonelosis confirmada y negativa para 5 muestras de pacientes con malaria por P. falciparum. Conclusión: Esta prueba de PCR podría ser útil para el diagnóstico de la bartonelosis causada por B. bacilliformis.

The 'chromosome map' diagram (ChM) proved a successful tool to identify and characterize multiple populations (MPs) in 59 Galactic globular clusters (GCs). Here, we construct ChMs for 11 GCs of both Magellanic Clouds (MCs) and with different ages to compare MPs in Galactic and extragalactic environments, and explore whether this phenomenon is universal through 'place' and 'time'. MPs are detected in five clusters. The fractions of 1G stars, ranging from ∼50 per cent to >80 per cent, are significantly higher than those observed in Galactic GCs with similar present-day masses. By considering both Galactic and MC clusters, the fraction of 1G stars exhibits: (i) a strong anticorrelation with the present-day mass, and (ii) with the present-day mass of 2G stars; (iii) a mild anticorrelation with 1G present-day mass. All Galactic clusters without MPs have initial masses smaller than ∼1.5 · 105 M⊙ but a mass threshold governing the occurrence of MPs seems challenged by massive simple-population MC GCs; (iv) Milky Way clusters with large perigalactic distances typically host larger fractions of 1G stars, but the difference disappears when we use initial cluster masses. These facts are consistent with a scenario where the stars lost by GCs mostly belong to the 1G. By exploiting recent work based on Gaia , half of the known Type II GCs appear clustered in a distinct region of the integral of motions space, thus suggesting a common progenitor galaxy. Consumption of sugar and alternative low- or no-energy sweeteners has increased in recent decades. However, it is still uncertain how consumption of sugar and alternative sweeteners during pregnancy affects pregnancy outcomes and long-term offspring health. This review aims to collate the available evidence surrounding the consequences of sugar and alternative sweetener consumption during pregnancy, a so-called secondhand sugar effect. We found evidence that sugar consumption during pregnancy may contribute to increased gestational weight gain and the development of pregnancy complications, including gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and preterm birth. Further, we found a growing body of the animal and human evidence that maternal sugar intake during pregnancy may impact neonatal and childhood metabolism, taste perception and obesity risk. Emerging evidence also suggests that both maternal and paternal preconception sugar intakes are linked to offspring metabolic outcomes, perhaps via epigenetic alterations to the germline. While there have been fewer studies of the impacts of alternative sweetener consumption before and during pregnancy, there is some evidence to suggest effects on infant outcomes including preterm birth risk, increased infant body composition and offspring preference for sweet foods, although mechanisms are unclear. We conclude that preconception and gestational sugar and alternative sweetener consumption may negatively impact pregnancy outcomes and offspring health and that there is a need for further observational, mechanistic and intervention research in this area. Introduction A lot of evidence has demonstrated the importance of different cytokines in acute renal rejection. Previous studies have examined the presence or absence of interleukin (IL)-10 in related immunopathologic rejection grafts as well as other interleukins. Studies in human transplantation show elevated levels of IL-10 and gamma interferon (INF-γ) in inflammation and rejection. Objective The objective of this study was to demonstrate the lack of association of elevated urinary levels of IL-10 and IFN in the presence of active inflammation. Methods An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted in transplant recipients at 12 months of follow-up after renal transplantation. In those who were held biopsy after renal transplantation at one year follow-up, or allograft dysfunction, we also measured IL-10 and INF-γ in the urine. The following were considered as variables: age, body mass index (BMI), gender, transplant type, creatinine, chronic kidney disease epidemiology collaboration equation, (CKD-EPI), modification of diet in renal disease study equation (MDRD), Banff classification, and levels of IL-10 and INF-γ. Statistical analysis was performed calculating a sample size of 25 patients, with an alpha bias of 0.05%, yielding measures of central tendency and determining no association between levels of IL-10 and INF-γ with the presence of rejection using SPSS 21.0 program. Results A total of 50 patients, 34 (68%) males, 16 (32%) females, with an average 31.7 ± 9.9 years, weight of 64.91 ± 13.84 kg, size 1.60 ± 0.10 m and 24.97 ± 4.07 BMI were included,39 (78%) living donor and 11 (22%) cadaveric. Twenty-six (52%) showed inflammation in the biopsy and 24 (48%) showed none. Mean creatinine was 1.81 ± 1.5, and the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was 55.27 ± 22.46, 65.76 ± 26.7. (MDRD and CKD-EPI, respectively). No statistical difference was found in the levels of IL-10 and IFN-γ using analysis of variance. (ANOVA; P = .467 and P = .063, respectively) Based on Banff, the inflammation on biopsy score was 2.78 ± 2.84. There was statistical significance ( P < .05) with respect to the Cr and eGFR by different equations. There were no significant interactions between cytokine levels and more than 1 factor. Discussion and Conclusions No significant differences were observed in the level of interleukins in patients with and without inflammation, denoting an adequate immunosuppression in most of these patients. Determination of inflammatory cytokines in urine could be used as a determinant of a good immunosuppression status, rather than as an early marker of rejection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
