Summary: This article is a systematic review of the Spanish scientific production in social work hosted in the Web of Science. Findings: The article analyzes the current state of social work research in Spain. Since the creation of the European Higher Education Area, Spanish social work has had to meet university research requirements, including the publication of papers in journals indexed in the world's leading databases. Spanish scientific production is analyzed from its beginnings until 2020. The main findings were that most of such research that was published by Spanish social work academic was in Spanish, while other categories of authors, such as nonsocial work Spanish academic, publish more in English. Spanish-language journals were mostly indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), while those in English were in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) or Scopus, consistently receiving few citations. Women as main authors exceeded men in percentages of indexed articles. Bibliometric quality measures constructed with Scopus were slightly better than those with JCR. The most developed topics in the area were general and transversal issues such as immigration, social services, social intervention, and social policies. Applications: The study demonstrates to Spanish social work researchers that they have greater likelihood of obtaining better quality indexes if they publish in English in JCR- and Scopus-indexed journals, resulting in enhanced academic career visibility. This paper aims to analyse the impact of Covid-19 on women professionals in social services in Spain and to determine which variables may have affected them to a greater or lesser extent. The consequences of the pandemic are not gender-neutral, so it is particularly relevant to know the perspective of this highly feminised professional group, which continued to carry out its essential activity during the hardest moments of the pandemic. For this purpose, a sample of 466 women professionals in the sector was obtained in fieldwork carried out between 1 and 19 April 2020. The results showed that social workers perceived great difficulty in continuing to carry out their functions in this context, as well as a notorious affectation both personally and professionally, with the youngest, those with the least seniority in the organisation and those with dependent children being the most affected in some of the different aspects analysed. This article analyzes the characteristics of psychosocial factors that affect social service professionals in their workplaces. Engagement, passion for work, organizational commitment, structural empowerment and burnout are examined, factors that, according to the literature, are closely related to outcomes for social services professionals. These psychosocial variables and their relationships are analyzed using a sample of 501 Spanish professionals through a quantitative research. Information that addressed the study objectives was collected via a questionnaire that was administered individually, voluntarily, and anonymously. The data were analyzed using Stata software and by calculating descriptive statistics and performing bivariate correlations, t-tests for independent samples, and ANOVAS. The obtained data allowed us to establish a psychosocial profile of professionals in which medium–high scores were notable for most of the positive psychosocial variables analyzed. In contrast, lower scores for variables related to negative aspects are observed, such as burnout and obsessive passion, which could indicate an opportunity to develop strategies to enhance these positive aspects. For future research, regression analysis could be considered to calculate the predictive value of some psychosocial variables over others as well as their mediating or moderating roles. El fenómeno de la inmigración y de la diversidad cultural está cada vez más presente en las sociedades actuales; el abordaje de esta pluralidad cultural desde un enfoque intercultural se hace necesario para favorecer la convivencia. Este artículo refleja las acciones y las bases teóricas del proyecto “Interculture map”, desarrollado a nivel europeo por socios de diversos países como Italia, Bélgica, República Checa y España, con el fin de establecer un mapa de las acciones interculturales en Europa y de realizar una aproximación conceptual a la noción de Buena Práctica intercultural.

During the state of alarm declared in Spain by COVID-19 due to the pandemic, the country's authorities declared Social Services and their workers to be essential, considering that the activity of these professionals with the vulnerable population was crucial and that services should continue to be provided to guarantee the well-being of users in this exceptionally serious situation. This article analyzes the impact that the COVID-19 and the state of alarm has had on Spanish social service professionals. An ad hoc questionnaire was used, administered on-line, individually, voluntarily and anonymously to 560 professionals working in social services, both in the public and private sectors, based throughout Spain. This questionnaire has five different parts: socio-demographic profiling, impact that the health crisis has had on the practice of professional functions, degree of knowledge of the measures imposed to guarantee the protection and safety of professionals and users, impact that it has had on the professional and personal development of social services professionals and, the fifth and last part, degree of adaptation of the measures aimed at the care of the vulnerable population. These results are discussed based on the situation in which professionals working in this sector find themselves in the face of the changes they are experiencing in the development of their work, and we are able to determine the profile of the workers who have felt most affected by the situation, with the consequent and foreseeable mental and emotional affectation that this implies. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of work engagement, as an intermediary variable, on the relationship between self-efficacy, and job satisfaction and affective organizational commitment as individual indicators of quality of working life (QWL). A cross-sectional correlational design was utilized assessing a convenience sample of 321 nursing staff. All participants were employed in public hospitals and had more than five months of professional experience in the same hospital. Mediation analysis was performed using path analysis and bootstrapping confidence intervals (percentile-corrected). Work engagement partially mediated the relation between self-efficacy and job satisfaction, and fully mediated the relation between self-efficacy and affective organizational commitment. Self-efficacy seems to be an important predictor of QWL in nursing staff, although its effect is partially mediated (e.g., job satisfaction) or fully mediated (e.g., affective commitment) by work engagement. The family institution is a key aspect of the welfare regimes of southern Europe, a crisis-affected situation in which social workers play an important role. This paper analyzes the statements of social workers regarding professional intervention and the families with whom they work within the Spanish context, which involves a strong economic crisis and the reduction of public policies. A relational and qualitative study was conducted of 15 professional perceptions of cutbacks, family demands, the profiles of the user families, and the privatization of social services. In addition, proposals for improvement and challenges are analyzed. The main results involve the relationships among dwindling resources, increasing family demands and family dependence on the system, the disadvantages of privatization, excessive bureaucratization, and adverse labor conditions. The main conclusions include the inadequacy of public policies to meet the needs of at-risk families in a crisis context. En el presente trabajo realizamos una reflexión a cerca de la epistemología del trabajo social. Partimos de considerar la epistemología como una reflexión de "segundo orden" frente a las producciones de la disciplina y profesión, siendo importante analizar qué relaciones mantiene con los contextos sociales donde se producen. En nuestro caso, vemos cuáles son los marcadores que más influyeron en el nacimiento del trabajo social y sus repercusiones en la consideración social de la disciplina. Creemos que la epistemología del trabajo social ha de hacerse teniendo en cuenta las aportaciones de este debate en el conjunto de las ciencias sociales, del cual nos interesa destacar lo que se denomina la concepción ampliada o nueva de las ciencias humanas, donde las características particulares del trabajo social encuentran la justificación para poder generar conocimiento. Establecido ya lo que nos aportan las ciencias sociales, abordamos el análisis de nuestra disciplina centrándonos en su concepto, objeto y método. Creemos que es posible la construcción de conocimientos puesto que, en las intervenciones del trabajo social, están presentes los grandes problemas teóricos de las ciencias sociales. Establezcamos una mínima distancia sobre las mismas para poder reflexionar sobre ellas.

En este trabajo estudiamos el perfil sociológico del alumno de 1° de Trabajo Social de la Universidad de Huelva en el curso 1994-95, analizamos las ideas previas con las que llegan los alumnos de primer curso de Trabajo Social sobre la elección de estos estudios, las funciones del trabajo social, la importancia para la sociedad del trabajo social y de otras profesiones, las cualidades que debe tener un trabajador social, etc. Finalmente llegamos a conclusiones de carácter operativo para la docencia.

Public policies have facilitated access to housing for a large part of the population characterized by social disadvantage. Nevertheless, public intervention is not limited to construction and implementing housing but also entails a management and monitoring proccess that affects the quality of life of citizens. Our objective was to determine the process from professionals perspective who develop it. To that end, we have developed an in-depth interview was answered by a total of 55 professionals from public housing intervention in Andalusia. The information obtained was treated through ATLAS.ti program and has revealed problems and difficulties related to the use of public spaces and coordination between authorities which has adeverse effect on intervention developed. Now that the European Space for Higher Education has granted full presence to social work in Spanish Universities, it becomes necessary to develop a series of strategies that allow its consolidation and equivalence with other Social Sciences. Although scientific publications count among the most adequate ways to achieve this purpose, there is no Spanish journal of social work in the main international databases. This article analyses the Spanish journals of social work published in Spain. This study examines social services delivery in Andalusia, Spain, to determine the degree of cultural adaptation of its workers, given the important migratory flows taking place in the region during recent years. This study investigates the main characteristics of those workers with a high level of intercultural sensitivity (IS) and their cultural competences. The survey included 298 professionals with a validated IS scale along with questions related to the degree of intercultural contact and competence. A series of scales for the IS levels was created, and correlation analyses were carried out depending on the variables used. Results revealed high levels of self-attributed cultural competence and training as well as low levels of awareness and motivation for intercultural encounters. Theoretical knowledge appeared to be the only aspect in correlation with all dimensions of IS. Important deficits have been also observed when examining the type and intensity of contact among professionals and people of foreign origin. This highlights the need to transform knowledge in culturally adapted responses. Future research is necessary to deepen knowledge on how these aspects affect professional interventions. This article presents an analytical approach to the reality of couples with children born in Spain who descend from at least one Romanian parent. It was carried out with the official data included in the Childbirth Statistical Bulletin of the National Statistics Institute. The Romanian community represents the largest contingent of foreign residents in Spain, showing a steady growth since 2000 to the present. For this reason, it is important to learn about the processes of settlement and integration of this population. Romanian immigrants in Spain are usually young people who also marry young people (especially if it's between people of the same nationality) and who reside mainly in Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia and Catalonia. This article reflects part of the results obtained from a wider research project aimed at the elaboration of a “Map of Good Intercultural Practices” in several areas of social intervention in Andalusia, Spain. It also reports the results obtained from the analysis portion related to the participating projects within the social services. Intercultural assessment was conducted at the level of institutional intervention through a 32-item questionnaire that was sent to 139 intercultural project-leading institutions measuring intercultural sensitivity. A definition of the fundamental concepts of “interculturality” and “good practice” is given to support the foundations of “good intercultural practice” (GIP). Such definitions help in the design and validation of a GIP Scale that was used in the analysis of 60 social services projects with an intercultural component. The results obtained underline the relevance of aspects such as intercultural empathy and show significant differences between the social services and other intervention sectors. Future research is proposed that studies GIP scale in other intervention sectors such as the private and public sector. Also, the transferability of the instruments and methodology used makes it possible that the research presented in this article is conducted in other geographical areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Even though gender equality being present in the social and political sphere, we still encounter aspects that are characteristic of sexism. Such aspects impact upon gender inequality and different types of violence towards women. The present article aims to examine the behaviour of adolescents from Huelva with regards to ambivalent sexism towards women on social networks and their influence on health. Furthermore, we seek to uncover adolescent's perceptions with regards to gender differences in the use of social networks, the relationship between sexism and women's emotional well-being was observed. The study sample was formed by young people aged between 14 and 16 years who were residing in rural and urban zones in the south of Spain. A mixed methods approach was taken. At a quantitative level, a sample of 400 young people was recruited. These were administered a questionnaire about sexism which was composed of two scales and has been validated at a national and international level. At a qualitative level, the study counted on 33 young people who participated in in-depth discussions via interviews and discussion groups. The results showed that sexism emerges in adolescence in the analysed sample from the south of Spain. This favoured a digital gender gap and was reinforced through social networks such as Instagram and Snapchat. Rising awareness and a critical view of the aforementioned sexism was shown on the behalf of females, particularly those from urban backgrounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The state of alarm caused by Covid-19 has mobilised the population's digital social participation in social networks. Likewise, the relevance acquired by Social Services as a support for the social and health crisis has generated an unprecedented social debate on Twitter about the reality of these services in Spain. The analysis of this phenomenon is the focus of the present article, in which the tweets on Social Services and Covid-19 published during the confinement have been analysed using the qualitative analysis software Atlas.Ti. The results show the precariousness of social services and that a change in the management and financing model of these services is required to guarantee benefits and satisfy fundamental social rights.
