Climate change is affecting the production of temperate fruit crops. Freeze damage, particularly in spring, has resulted in significant economic losses in peach production in the southeastern United States. Research efforts in peach and other Prunus species have primarily focused on dormancy-related traits associated with bloom time, such as chill and heat requirement, with fruitlet freeze tolerance not equally represented. This study reports fruitlet freeze tolerance in 75 peach and nectarine accessions at six freezing temperatures (0 to −10 °C) using electrolyte leakage method over two seasons (2022–2023). Fruitlet freeze tolerance ranged from −3.9 to −10.2 °C with an estimated freeze damage ranging from 16–48% of fruitlet tissue with the majority of the accessions showing tolerance to cold temperatures in the −4 to −6 °C and 25–35% range. Variability in tolerance was noted across years, including some inconsistencies between tolerance group assignments. Grouping based on the estimated damage showed better stability and some accessions changed their grouping from the extremes to an intermediate tolerance group. Interestingly, nectarine accessions were among the most tolerant in both seasons. Broad-sense heritability of 0.52 and 0.85, estimated for freeze tolerance and % tissue damage, respectively, suggested genetic control of this trait with a potential for improvement via breeding.

Life expectancy has become longer, thus the number of elderly people who require treatment for nephrolithiasis has increased. We aimed to analyze the efficacy of flexible ureterorenoscopy (f-URS) and miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mPNL) in the management of 10 and 30 mm renal stones in patients aged >60 years. In prospective non-randomized series, the data of patients who underwent f-URS or mPNL for kidney stones between July 2013 and July 2016 were analyzed. The procedure was accepted as successful if the patient was achieved complete stone clearance according to CT imaging between 1–3 months postoperatively. In total 60 patients and 58 patients were underwent f-URS and mPNL, respectively. The mean operation time, fluoroscopy time and hospitalization time were significantly shorter for the f-URS (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, respectively). According to Clavien classification system, complication rates were not significantly different between the groups (p = 0.673). The stone-free rate was 81.7% for the f-URS group and 77.6% for the mPNL group after a single-session procedure (p = 0.747). Calcium oxalate monohydrate stones were the most common stone type in both groups. In multivariate analysis, multiple stones localization was only independent factor to predict complications. Our study had showed that both f-URS and mPNL are effective treatment modalities for 10–30-mm renal stones in elderly patients. Objective: To evaluate the characteristics of men who support their partners in getting the HPV vaccine. Material And Methods: All married women (< 26 years) who were admitted to the gynecology outpatient clinic and their husbands were evaluated for participation in the study. Patients’ and all characteristics of male partners were recorded. All male participants answered a survey form including ten statements about HPV and HPV vaccination. Male participants were divided into two groups according to their support or lack of support for HPV vaccination of their wife. Results: In total, 92 men supported HPV vaccination for their partners and 144 men opposed HPV vaccination (support rate: 39%). The mean marriage age, education status and monthly income were significantly higher in favor of men who support HPV vaccination for their wives. The rate of those who stated they were religious was significantly higher in the anti-vaccine group. Safety concerns about vaccine (27.8%), cost of vaccine (26.4%) and belief about HPV vaccine effectiveness (26.4%) were most common reasons for opposing HPV vaccination. Multivariate regression analysis revealed marriage age ≥25 years, education level of high school and university, higher monthly income and not self-identification as religious increased the HPV vaccine support rate. Conclusion: The present study found that men with higher marriage age, higher educational level, higher monthly income, and higher score on the HPV survey were significantly more supportive of their spouses getting the HPV vaccination. In contrast, men who identified themselves as religious had significantly less support for their wife being vaccinated. Nowadays, active surveillance has gained popularity as an acceptable management alternative to definitive treatment for men with low-risk prostate cancer. Active surveillance aims to delay or prevent unnecessary interventions – thereby reducing the morbidity associated with overtreatment. Despite widespread acceptance from current guidelines, active surveillance does not eliminate the concern that the advanced disease and repeat biopsy anxiety for both the clinician and the patient. This situation leads to the search for a method that is non-invasive and can give an idea to the clinician about the status of the disease in the active surveillance protocol. Recent technological advancements and the introduction of modern anatomical and functional sequences have led to a growing role for multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) in the detection, risk assessment, and monitoring of prostate cancer. The main advantages of MRI are its superior anatomic and contrast resolution, lack of ionizing radiation, and multi-planar capabilities. In addition, standardization of reporting findings such as PI-RADS in mpMRI in prostate cancer provides an advantage by increasing inter-reader reliability among radiologists. This study aims to evaluate and summarize the role of magnetic resonance imaging in the active surveillance of prostate cancer. Objective: The success of urethroplasty depends on a well-vascularized urethra, and in graft procedures, also on a healthy and well-vascularized graft bed for neovascularization. Elderly patients have an increased comorbid burden that may result in decreased penile and urethral blood flow. Therefore, we aimed to investigate whether age is an independent determinant of surgical success in patients undergoing urethroplasty. Material and Methods: The data of male patients who underwent urethroplasty (Excision-primary anastomosis and buccal mucosa graft) between 2015 and 2020 in our clinic were retrospectively analyzed. Urethroplasty success was defined as no urethral intervention required for at least one year of follow-up. Patients under the age of 60 were matched in a 1: 1 ratio with patients aged 60 and over, according to the length of the stricture and the type of operation. Patient characteristics were compared between the two age groups. Factors affecting success were evaluated with multivariate logistic regression analysis. Aim:To evaluate the impact of transrectal ultrasonography-guided prostate needle biopsy (TRUS-Bx) on erectile function.Methods:Patients who underwent TRUS-Bx were prospectively examined. The indications for prostate biopsy were elevated prostatespecific antigen (PSA) level and/or abnormal digital rectal examination. All patients were evaluated with the 5-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) before TRUS-Bx and at one, three and six months after TRUS-Bx. Severity of erectile dysfunction (ED) was classified into five categories according to IIEF-5 scores.Results:Eighty patients were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 64.7 years and the mean serum PSA level was 10.2 ng/mL. The mean IIEF-5 score was 16.5 prior to TRUS-Bx. Before TRUSBx, ED was reported in 61 patients and mild, mild to moderate, and moderate ED in 23 (28.8%), 21 (26.2%), and 17 (21.2%) patients, respectively. Six months after TRUS-Bx, ED was reported as mild, mild to moderate, moderate and severe in 23 (28.8%), 21 (26.3%), 16 (20%) and one (1.3%) patients, respectively. The differences between before and after prostate biopsy were statistically insignificant (p>0.05).Conclusion:TRUS-Bx does not have a permanent effect on erectile function. It seemed to be a trend toward increasing ED at 1 month and longer follow-up showed that these changes resolved back to baseline.
