With a population increasing rapidly and agricultural yields almost stagnant over the years, access to food is a major challenge in Burkina Faso. This study investigates households demand for staple cereal commodities in Burkina Faso, using data from the 2009-2010 Integrated Household Living Condition Survey. A complete almost ideal demand system (AIDS) model is estimated taking into account demographics and zero consumption. Results show that maize, millet and sorghum are necessities while rice is considered a superior cereal commodity. Demand for maize, millet and sorghum are less price elastic than rice and these results are consistent for most households except for wealthy, educated households living in urban areas where rice becomes a necessity. The analysis of the evolution of cereal prices shows an overall increase leaving many people in food insecurity and the country in political instability. Therefore, the country must adopt agricultural reforms to boost production and productivity by exploiting unfarmed land, building more storage facilities, roads and rural infrastructure, using improved seeds and more fertilizer, and installing irrigation systems.

This study investigates the effects of material and symbolic quality attributes on the Cup of Excellence specialty coffee quality scores and prices. The estimates from the quality score equations suggest that material attributes are important determinants, but symbolic attributes have a greater explanatory power. The hedonic price estimations show that specialty coffee prices are mainly determined by symbolic attributes and market conditions such as the number of coffees in the auction. Overall, the study reveals that fruity, floral, sweet, spice, and sour acid are cuppers' and buyers' most favorite coffee flavors and aromas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to understand the potential of bulk FinFET technology from the perspective of sub- and near-threshold logic circuits down to 100-mV bias voltage. Measurements are performed on bulk FinFETs with a channel length of 60 nm, a fin height of 33 nm, and a fin width of only 14 nm and with a high-k/metal-gate stack having an equivalent thickness in inversion of 1.6 nm. For comparison purposes, measurements are also performed on bulk planar FETs with the same channel length and similar gate stack. FinFETs show a stronger dependence of the drain current on the gate voltage and a lower dependence on the drain and body biases w.r.t. planar devices. After adjusting for the different threshold voltages, FinFETs exhibit perfect balance between n- and p-FETs at any applied bias in the sub- and near-threshold regimes. As a consequence, FinFET logic circuits have significantly improved voltage scalability from the perspective of dc robustness and of performance/energy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The change of the energy profile of the initially present HfSiO defects in nMOSFETs after Vth adjustment by As and Ar implantations is investigated. Purpose To ascertain the association between fundus drusens and biological parameters in a colony of 1174 monkeys. Methods Presence or absence of drusens was determined through the assessment of fundus photos taken during 2011 - 2013 from 1,174 Macaca fascicularis at Tsukuba Primate Research Center. Biological data from these monkeys including blood test result, age, sex, and body weight were tested for an association between the presence of drusens by applying t-test and logistic regression analysis. Results We identified 387 and 787 monkeys with and without drusens, respectively. Among them, 317 and 628 monkeys with and without drusens that had a complete biological data set were further studied. After comparing each parameter in monkeys with and without drusens, 13 factors with a significance of P < 0.1 ( t-test) were selected for logistic regression analysis. Regression analysis showed association of age (odds ratio: 1.092, 95% confidence interval: 1.061-1.125) and platelet count (odds ratio: 1.022, 95% confidence interval: 1.005-1.038) with drusens. In addition, an association was implicated between drusens and white blood cell count (odds ratio: 1.005, 95% confidence interval: 1.000-1.011). Abstract: PBTI degradation on FinFETs with HfO2/TiN gate stack (EOT<1nm) is studied. Thinner TiN layer decreases interfacial oxide thickness, and reduces PBTI lifetime. This behavior is consistent with the results in planar devices. Corner rounding effect on PBTI is also analyzed. Finally, charge pumping measurements on devices with several fin widths devices apparently show a higher density of defects in the top-wall high-κ oxide than in the sidewall of the fin. Introduction: Neurological disorders (ND) have a high incidence in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). In this region, systemic challenges of conventional medicine (CM) and cultural beliefs have contributed to a large utilization of traditional medicine (TM). Yet, data on TM and those who use it in the treatment of ND in SSA are scarce. Here, we systematically analyze its role as a therapy modality for ND in Mali, the socio-demographic characteristics of its users, and propose next steps to optimize the dual usages of TM and CM for patients with ND., Methods: We conducted a questionnaire study in two phases. In phase one, patients with ND answered questions on their usage of and attitudes towards TM. In phase two, the TM therapists who provided care to the patients in phase one answered questions regarding their own practices for treating ND. Patients were recruited from the country's two university neurology departments., Results: 3,534 of the 4,532 patients seen in the Departments of Neurology in 2019 met the inclusion criteria. Among these 3,534 patients, 2,430 (68.8%) had previously consulted TM for their present ND. Patients over 60 years of age most often used TM (83.1%). By education, illiterate patients utilized TM the most (85.5%) while those with more than a secondary education used TM the least (48.6%). An income greater than the minimum guaranteed salary was associated with decreased use of traditional medicine (OR 0.29, CI 0.25-0.35, p < 0.001). Among those using TM, it was overwhelmingly thought to be more effective than CM (84.6%). Linking illness to supernatural causes and believing TM therapists had a better understanding of illnesses were the most common reasons patients used traditional medicine (82.3% and 80.5%, respectively). We then interviewed 171 TM therapists who had provided care to the patients in phase one. These providers most commonly "sometimes" (62.6%) referred patients to CM and 4.1% never had. A majority of TM providers (62.6%) believed collaboration with CM could be improved by having doctor "take into account" our existence., Conclusion: Our work shows that TM plays a central role in the provision of care for patients with ND in SSA with certain cohorts using it at higher rates. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of pre- and postoperative supervised pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) on the recovery of continence and pelvic floor muscle (PFM) function after robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RARP)., Patients and Methods: We carried out a single-blind randomised controlled trial involving 54 male patients scheduled to undergo RARP. The intervention group started supervised PFMT 2 months before RARP and continued for 12 months after surgery with a physiotherapist. The control group was given verbal instructions, a brochure about PFMT, and lifestyle advice. The primary outcome was 24-h pad weight (g) at 3 months after RARP. The secondary outcomes were continence status (assessed by pad use), PFM function, and the Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite (EPIC) score., Results: Patients who participated in supervised PFMT showed significantly improved postoperative urinary incontinence (UI) compared with the control group (5.0 [0.0-908.0] g vs 21.0 [0.0-750.0] g; effect size: 0.34, P = 0.022) at 3 months after RARP based on 24-h pad weight. A significant improvement was seen in the intervention compared with the control group (65.2% continence [no pad use] vs 31.6% continence, respectively) at 12 months after surgery (effect size: 0.34, P = 0.030). Peak pressure during a maximum voluntary contraction was higher in the intervention group immediately after catheter removal and at 6 months, and a longer duration of sustained contraction was found in the intervention group compared with the control group. We were unable to demonstrate a difference between groups in EPIC scores., Conclusion: Supervised PFMT can improve postoperative UI and PFM function after RARP. We revisited the anatomo-functional characteristics of the basal temporal language area (BTLA), first described by Lüders et al. (1986), using electrical cortical stimulation (ECS) in the context of Japanese language and semantic networks. We recruited 11 patients with focal epilepsy who underwent chronic subdural electrode implantation and ECS mapping with multiple language tasks for presurgical evaluation. A semiquantitative language function density map delineated the anatomo-functional characteristics of the BTLA (66 electrodes, mean 3.8 cm from the temporal tip). The ECS-induced impairment probability was higher in the following tasks, listed in a descending order: spoken-word picture matching, picture naming, Kanji word reading, paragraph reading, spoken-verbal command, and Kana word reading. The anterior fusiform gyrus (FG), adjacent anterior inferior temporal gyrus (ITG), and the anterior end where FG and ITG fuse, were characterized by stimulation-induced impairment during visual and auditory tasks requiring verbal output or not, whereas the middle FG was characterized mainly by visual input. The parahippocampal gyrus was the least impaired of the three gyri in the basal temporal area. We propose that the BTLA has a functional gradient, with the anterior part involved in amodal semantic processing and the posterior part, especially the middle FG in unimodal semantic processing., (© The Author(s) 2024. We encountered a 64-year-old Japanese woman who developed subarachnoid hemorrhaging (SAH) with multiple cerebral artery stenoses during remission induction therapy for eosinophilic granulomatosis and polyangiitis (EGPA). The treatment involved intensified steroid pulse therapy and continued intravenous cyclophosphamide pulse therapy, which led to beneficial effects. Given the rarity of multiple EGPA-associated cerebral artery stenoses and SAH, it is crucial to differentiate them from other diseases. The mortality rate of EGPA complicated by intracranial hemorrhagic lesions, including SAH, is high. When headache is present at the onset of EGPA, the possibility of SAH must be considered.

Objective: This study investigated morphological changes in the composition of the pelvic floor muscles, degree of atrophy, and urethral function in a rat of simulated birth trauma induced by vaginal distension (VD) model., Methods: Female Sprague-Dawley rats were classified into four groups: a sham group, and 1, 2, and 4 weeks post-VD (1 W, 2 W, and 4 W, respectively) groups. We measured the amplitude of urethral response to electrical stimulation (A-URE) to evaluate urethral function. After measuring the muscle wet weight of the pubococcygeus (Pcm) and iliococcygeus (Icm) muscles, histochemical staining was used to classify muscle fibers into Types I, IIa, and IIb, and the occupancy and cross-sectional area of each muscle fiber were determined., Results: There were 24 Sprague-Dawley rats used. A-URE was significantly lower in the 1 W group versus the other groups. Muscle wet weight was significantly lower in the VD groups versus the sham group for Pcm. The cross-sectional area of Type I Pcm and Icm was significantly lower in the VD groups versus the sham group. Type I muscle fiber composition in Pcm was significantly lower in the VD groups versus the sham groupand lowest in the 2 W group. Type I muscle fiber composition in Icm was significantly lower in the 2 and 4 W groups versus the sham group., Conclusion: Muscle atrophy and changes in muscle composition in the pelvic floor muscles were observed even after improvements in urethral function. Objectives: Parkinson's disease caused by the loss of dopaminergic neurons induces not only motor dysfunction but also lower urinary tract dysfunction. Patients with Parkinson's disease have recently been reported to experience both urge urinary incontinence (overactive bladder) and stress urinary incontinence, the latter of which occurs when the pressure of the bladder exceeds that of the urethra. Vibegron is a highly selective novel β 3 -adrenoceptor agonist approved for the treatment of overactive bladder. However, how β 3 -adrenoceptor agonists affect urethral function remains unclear. In a clinical report, the urethral function of patients with Parkinson's disease was shown to be degraded. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of vibegron on lower urinary tract activity in a rat model of Parkinson's disease., Methods: In a rat model of Parkinson's disease induced by unilateral 6-hydroxydopamine injection into the substantia nigra pars compacta, we examined the effects of vibegron on bladder and urethral activity., Results: Cystometric analysis revealed that, compared with vehicle injection, intravenous injection of 3 mg/kg vibegron significantly increased the inter-contraction interval (p < .05) and reduced voiding pressure (p < .01). However, no significant effects on urethral function were observed., Conclusions: The results of the present study provide corroborating evidence that bladder dysfunction is suppressed by the administration of vibegron in Parkinson's disease model rats, confirming that vibegron is effective for treating overactive bladder without further worsening urethral function. We report two male patients who had a sensory seizure, which evolved into a focal impaired awareness tonic seizure, and after that, focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizure. The first case, a 20-year-old man had been treated with steroids for anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-positive optic neuritis. His seizure started with abnormal sensation in the little finger of the left hand, which spread to the left upper and then to the left lower limb. The seizure then evolved into tonic seizures of the upper and lower limbs and he finally lost awareness. The second case, a 19-year-old man experienced floating dizziness while walking, followed by numbness and a pain-like electrical shock in the right upper limb. The right arm somatosensory seizure evolved into a right upper and lower limb tonic seizure, which spread to the bilateral limbs, and finally he lost awareness. Symptoms of both patients improved after the treatment with steroids. Both patients shared a similar high-intensity FLAIR lesion in the posterior midcingulate cortex. Both patients were diagnosed with MOG antibody-positive cerebral cortical encephalitis because of a positive titer of anti-MOG antibody in the serum. Several reports showed involvement of the cingulate gyrus in MOG antibody-positive cerebral cortical encephalitis, but only a few reported seizure semiology in detail. The semiology reported here is consistent with that of cingulate epilepsy or the findings of electrical stimulation of the cingulate cortex, namely, somatosensory (electric shock or heat sensation), motor (tonic posture), and vestibular symptoms (dizziness). Cingulate seizures should be suspected when patients show somatosensory seizures or focal tonic seizures. MOG antibody-positive cerebral cortical encephalitis should be considered as one of the differential diagnoses when the young patient shows the unique symptoms of an acute symptomatic cingulate seizure.

Objective: Urodynamics of the storage phase showing detrusor overactivity is com- mon in neurogenic bladder patients. Terminal detrusor overactivity, which is defined by involuntary detrusor contraction that cannot be inhibited, causes urinary incon- tinence. Such incontinence causes a unique voiding in neurogenic bladder patients. During the voiding phase, the detrusor pressure at Qmax (Pdet.Qmax)/maximum flow rate (Qmax) (P/Q) is the gold standard for differentiating between detrusor underactiv- ity and bladder outflow obstruction. We investigated whether a valid identification of lower urinary tract dysfunction could be established from P/Q assessment of detrusor overactivity-related voiding patients., Methods: This study evaluated 2 types of voiding. Detrusor overactivity-related void- ing is involuntary detrusor contraction that results in micturition or voiding after per- mission to void when detrusor overactivity has occurred, while voluntary voiding is voiding voluntarily after permission to void and without terminal detrusor overactivity. We evaluated female patients with neurogenic bladder who could undergo micturition without catheterization. A pressure flow study compared the 2 groups., Results: Comparison of the detrusor overactivity-related voiding group (n=20) and the voluntary voiding group (n=12) found statistically significant differences with a lower Qmax and higher Pdet.Qmax (P=.01) in the detrusor overactivity-related void- ing group. The linear regression analysis P/Q plot showed the positivity and negativity value of the slope that was reversed in the 2 groups (-0.089 vs. 0.198)., Conclusion: Current results showed different P/Q plot patterns between 2 types of voiding in patients with neurogenic bladder. These findings suggest there is increased detrusor pressure observed in detrusor overactivity-related voiding that mimics out- flow obstruction.

Background: This study aimed to examine changes in serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) concentrations after exhaustive high-intensity intermittent exercise (HIIE) and non-exhaustive HIIE, and to compare the two conditions., Methods: Eight healthy male college students (age: 22±1 year) participated in exhaustive (sets: 6-7) and non-exhaustive (sets: 5) HIIE. In both conditions, participants repeated sets of 20 seconds of exercise at 170% V̇O2max with 10 seconds of rest between sets. Serum BDNF was measured 8 times in each condition: 30 minutes after resting, 10 minutes after sitting, immediately after HIIE, and 5, 10, 30, 60, and 90 minutes after main exercise. Changes in serum BDNF concentrations over time and between measurement points in both conditions were measured using a two-way repeated measures ANOVA., Results: Serum BDNF concentrations were measured, revealing significant interaction between two factors (conditions and measurement points) (F=3.482, P=0.027). In the exhaustive HIIE, there were significant increases at 5 minutes (P<0.01) and 10 minutes (P<0.01) after exercise compared to after resting. In the non-exhaustive HIIE, there was a significant increase immediately after (P<0.01) and 5 minutes after (P<0.01) exercise compared to resting. Comparison of the serum BDNF concentrations at each measurement point showed a significant difference at 10 minutes after exercise, with significantly higher values for the exhaustive HIIE condition (P<0.01, r=0.60)., Conclusions: Exhaustive and non-exhaustive HIIE are time-efficient exercises that increase serum BDNF concentrations in healthy adults.

Objective: Febrile urinary tract infections, which commonly occur in spina bifida patients, can cause renal dysfunction. To help prevent febrile urinary tract infection occurrence, a better understanding of any seasonal tendencies would be beneficial., Materials and Methods: Study points evaluated included: (i) with or without febrile urinary tract infections, (ii) type of urinary management in patients with febrile urinary tract infections, (iii) number of febrile urinary tract infection occurrences, and (iv) season associated with episode. Febrile urinary tract infection was defined by medical records specifically ascribing the term and clinical presentations consistent with the diagnosis. We evaluated febrile urinary tract infection incidence per 1 person, risk odds, expected values, and chi-square analysis., Results: This study examined 140 patients (79 males, 61 females). The patient's age at the first visit ranged from 2 days to 43.7 years old (median: 3.0 years old). The observation period was 0.6-43.7 years (median: 11.5 years). (i) Febrile urinary tract infection occurred in 68 cases, (ii) urinary management included: full clean intermittent catheterization: 49 cases, autoaugmented bladder: 15 cases, self-voiding: 8 cases, clean intermittent catheterization + indwelling catheter at night time: 5 cases, self-voiding + clean intermittent catheterization: 4 cases, vesicocutaneostomy: 2 cases, (iii) number of febrile urinary tract infection episodes: 2 times or less: 40 cases, 3-5 times: 20 cases, over 6 times: 8 cases, and (iv) total number of febrile urinary tract infection episodes was 183, with spring: 41, summer: 44, autumn: 37, and winter: 61. Risk odds of the incidence (one season vs. the other season) were spring: 0.870 (P = .425), summer: 0.954 (P = .784), autumn: 0.755 (P = .120), and winter 1.497 (P = .009).

The medial parietal cortices are components of the default mode network (DMN), which are active in the resting state. The medial parietal cortices include the precuneus and the dorsal posterior cingulate cortex (dPCC). Few studies have mentioned differences in the connectivity in the medial parietal cortices, and these differences have not yet been precisely elucidated. Electrophysiological connectivity is essential for understanding cortical function or functional differences. Since little is known about electrophysiological connections from the medial parietal cortices in humans, we evaluated distinct connectivity patterns in the medial parietal cortices by constructing a standardized connectivity map using cortico-cortical evoked potential (CCEP). This study included nine patients with partial epilepsy or a brain tumor who underwent chronic intracranial electrode placement covering the medial parietal cortices. Single-pulse electrical stimuli were delivered to the medial parietal cortices (38 pairs of electrodes). Responses were standardized using the z-score of the baseline activity, and a response density map was constructed in the Montreal Neurological Institutes (MNI) space. The precuneus tended to connect with the inferior parietal lobule (IPL), the occipital cortex, superior parietal lobule (SPL), and the dorsal premotor area (PMd) (the four most active regions, in descending order), while the dPCC tended to connect to the middle cingulate cortex, SPL, precuneus, and IPL. The connectivity pattern differs significantly between the precuneus and dPCC stimulation (p<0.05). Regarding each part of the medial parietal cortices, the distributions of parts of CCEP responses resembled those of the functional connectivity database. Based on how the dPCC was connected to the medial frontal area, SPL, and IPL, its connectivity pattern could not be explained by DMN alone, but suggested a mixture of DMN and the frontoparietal cognitive network. These findings improve our understanding of the connectivity profile within the medial parietal cortices. The electrophysiological connectivity is the basis of propagation of electrical activities in patients with epilepsy. Introduction: Idiopathic overactive bladder (OAB) is defined as an urgency symptom with or without urge incontinence, which is not due to known neurological abnormalities. Since children present with variable symptoms, pediatric nonneurogenic idiopathic OAB is a condition that is difficult to diagnose and treat. Although there are few reports on bladder function in pediatric patients compared to adult patients, it can be useful for diagnosis. Antimuscarinic therapy is the pharmacological mainstay of OAB management. However, antimuscarinic use is limited by side effects and Insufficient effects. Vibegron, a new drug with a different mechanism of action (β3-adrenoreceptor agonist), was recently introduced for treating OAB in adults but has not been studied in the pediatric population., Objective: This study aimed to determine the efficacy and tolerability of vibegron in children and adolescents with idiopathic OAB., Study Design: We conducted a retrospective study enrolling pediatric patients with OAB whose symptoms did not improve with behavioral therapy or pharmaceutical therapy. Efficacy and tolerability were assessed via a question, and patients underwent video-urodynamic testing before and during treatment with once-daily 50 mg vibegron. Statistical differences were evaluated using Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank tests., Results: Out of the 17 patients that were recruited, full study with two urodynamic studies were confirmed by 11 patients. OAB symptoms improved in 14 (82.4%) patients, and 3 patients discontinued treatment because of ineffectiveness. No patients discontinued treatment because of intolerance to vibegron. The median (IQR) first desire to void (133 [82-185]-161 [123-227] mL), bladder capacity (158 [136-238]-204 [150-257] mL), and bladder compliance (18.1 [9.1-76.7]-34.0 [30.0-82.3] mL/cm H 2 O) improved significantly post treatment compared to before treatment. Detrusor overactivity disappeared in one of the eight patients with this condition. The parameters of voiding function did not change significantly after the administration of vibegron., Discussion: Treatment with vibegron significantly improved clinical and urodynamic parameters of pediatric OAB with no adverse effects. Little information is available regarding the feasibility of switching drugs when patients discontinue prior pharmacological therapy because of insufficient efficacy or poor tolerability in children. Vibegron may be a promising OAB treatment option with a better balance of efficacy and tolerability., Conclusions: Vibegron is an alternative agent for pediatric patients with idiopathic OAB for improving both subjective symptoms and lower urinary tract function. Case: A 52-year-old man developed a cerebral infarction from the right middle cerebral artery occlusion, and the infarction extensively damaged the right insula. Three months after the onset of the cerebral infarction, persistent hiccups appeared, occurring during sleep. The thoracic and abdominal cavities showed no lesions; hence, the hiccups were considered to be caused by central nervous system dysfunction. Administration of metoclopramide, chlorpromazine, and diazepam were ineffective, while levetiracetam had a partial effect. Combining perampanel with baclofen finally suppressed the symptoms., Discussion: Lesions at the right insula impair respiratory reflex and may present with hiccups as a symptom of respiratory reflex disinhibition. Introduction and Hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to compare the muscle elasticity of the striated urethral sphincter (SUS) using real-time tissue elastography (RTE) as an evaluation of pelvic floor muscle (PFM) function between overactive bladder (OAB) patients and healthy women., Methods: The subjects were 8 healthy middle-aged women (healthy group; age range 57-65 years) and 9 female OAB patients (OAB group; age range 42-80 years). The target sites of elastography were the striated urethral sphincter (SUS) and adipose tissue as the reference site; muscle elasticity was calculated as the strain ratio (SR) of the SUS to the reference site. Evaluations were performed at rest and during PFM contraction. The OAB group completed OAB symptom and quality of life questionnaires. The SUS SR was compared between the groups. The SUS SR at rest and during PFM contraction was compared within groups using the t-test and Wilcoxon's test. The relationship between the questionnaire results and the SUS SR was evaluated by correlation analysis., Results: Intergroup comparisons between the healthy and OAB groups showed no significant differences in SUS SR at rest and during PFM contraction. On intragroup comparisons, the SUS SR was significantly higher during PFM contraction than at rest in the healthy group (p = 0.011); in the OAB group, there was no significant difference in the SUS SR between rest and PFM contraction. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative condition caused by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. As activation of dopaminergic receptors is fundamentally involved in the micturition reflex in PD, the objective of this study was to determine the effect of a single dose of rotigotine ([-]2-(N-propyl-N-2-thienylethylamino)-5-hydroxytetralin) on intercontraction interval (ICI) and voiding pressure (VP) in a rat model of PD. We used 27 female rats, PD was induced by injecting 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA; 8 μg in 2 μL of 0.9% saline containing 0.3% ascorbic acid), and rotigotine was administrated at doses of 0.125, 0.25, or 0.5 mg/kg, either intravenous or subcutaneous injection. In rats with 6-OHDA-induced PD, intravenous injection of 0.25 or 0.5 mg/kg rotigotine led to a significantly lower ICI than after vehicle injection (p < 0.05). Additionally, VP was significantly lower in animals administered rotigotine compared to those injected with vehicle (p < 0.05). Compared to vehicle-injected animals, subcutaneous administration of rotigotine (0.125, 0.25, or 0.5 mg/kg) led to a significantly higher ICI at 2 h after injection (p < 0.05); however, there was no change in ICI after injection with (+)-SCH23390 hydrochloride. Associations between questionnaire results and SUS SR were evaluated by correlation analysis., Results: There was no significant difference in age between the IC/BPS and middle-aged groups, but the young group was significantly younger than the other groups (p < 0.001). SUS SR at rest was significantly higher in the IC/BPS group than in the middle-aged (p = 0.014) and young groups (p = 0.002). Furthermore, in the IC/BPS group, there was no significant difference in SUS SR between at rest and during PFM contraction. Objective: The Japan Coma Scale (JCS) is widely used in clinical practice to evaluate levels of consciousness in Japan. There have been several studies on the usefulness of JCS in adults. However, its usefulness in evaluating children has not been reported. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the usefulness of the JCS for the prediction of mortality in children., Methods: This is a multicenter cohort study which used data from a national trauma registry (Japan Trauma Data Bank). This study included patients under 16 years of age who were treated between 2004 and 2015.The primary outcome measure was in-hospital mortality. Two models were used to examine each item of the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and the JCS. Model A included the discrete levels of each index. In model B, data regarding age, sex, vital signs on arrival to hospital, the Injury Severity Score, and blunt trauma were added to each index. The effectivity of the JCS score was then evaluated using the area under the curve (AUC) for discrimination, a calibration plot, and the Hosmer-Lemeshow test for calibration., Results: A total of 9045 patients were identified. The AUCs of the GCS and JCS were 0.929 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.904 to 0.954) and 0.930 (95% CI 0.906 to 0.954) in model A and 0.975 (95% CI 0.963 to 0.987) and 0.974 (95% CI 0.963 to 0.985) in model B, respectively. The results of the Hosmer-Lemeshow test were 0.00 (p=1.00) and 0.00 (p=1.00) in model A and 4.14 (p=0.84) and 8.55 (p=0.38) in model B for the GCS and JCS, respectively., Conclusions: We demonstrated that the JCS is as valid as the GCS for predicting mortality. A domino-type multiple C-H functionalization of tetracene with molecular benzene is reported. Under the typical conditions of the Scholl reaction, a domino reaction occurs between tetracene and six molecules of benzene in one pot to furnish an aromatic compound with a curved π-system. This reaction sequence involves oxidative cross-dehydrogenative coupling/annulation and Friedel-Crafts-type reactions. Eight C-C bonds are formed via this intermolecular domino reaction without mediation by a metal or the assistance of a specific substituent.
