Aims: The purpose of this study is to assess the diagnostic value of SWE (shear wave elastography) and renal parenchymal elasticity and microvascularization with the SMI (super microvascular imaging) technique in diagnosing and predicting the progression of renal parenchymal damage in pediatric patients with hydronephrosis. Patients and Methods: A total of 45 patients were included in the prospective study. To evaluate parenchymal changes, SWE and SMI‐Vacularity Index (VI) measurements were performed in various sections of the affected and normal kidneys. The affected and control renal pelvises' anteroposterior (AP) diameters were also measured. Results: The average SWE values were measured as 16.62 kPa for the affected kidneys, whereas the control kidneys showed an average SWE value of 12.70 kPa, indicating a statistically significant difference (p <.01). Furthermore, in the affected kidneys, the average SMI‐VI value was measured as 5.92, whereas the control kidneys exhibited a higher average SMI‐VI value of 6.64, showing a statistically significant difference (p <.01). A reverse correlation was found between renal pelvis AP diameter and SMI‐VI values, while a positive correlation existed between renal pelvis AP diameter and SWE values. Conclusions: We believe that SWE and SMI may be useful for diagnosing and predicting the progression of renal parenchymal damage in pediatric hydronephrotic patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to compare the efficacy of percutaneous microwave ablation therapy (MWAT) and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) in early-stage renal cell carcinoma (RCC) classified as T1a; a retrospective analysis was conducted on patients treated between January 2017 and November 2023. Oncological outcomes, radiological recurrence, length of stay (LOS), and costs were evaluated. The study included 110 patients, with no significant differences between the two groups regarding residual tumors, local tumor progression, and disease-free survival rates (p > 0.05). The LPN group showed significantly lower pre/postoperative serum urea and creatinine and higher estimated glomerular filtration rate values, whereas the MWA group experienced significantly lower mean costs, complication rates, LOS in the hospital, and procedure durations (p ≤ 0.05). However, post-procedure residual tumors and local tumor progression rates did not differ significantly between the LPN and MWAT groups (p > 0.05). MWAT is as effective as LPN for T1a RCC lesions. In addition, MWAT has lower costs than LPN and is a cost-effective treatment method. Therefore, MWAT minimizes hospital stay and complications and since the oncological results are similar to LPN, it might be considered as the first choice of treatment in young patients. Objective : Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a condition characterized by bleeding in the subarachnoid space, often resulting from the rupture of a cerebral aneurysm. Delayed cerebral ischemia caused by vasospasm is a significant cause of mortality and morbidity in SAH patients, and inflammatory markers such as systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), systemic inflammatory index (SII), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and derived NLR (dNLR) have shown potential in predicting clinical vasospasm and outcomes in SAH patients. This article aims to investigate the relationship between inflammatory markers and cerebral vasospasm after aneurysmatic SAH (aSAH) and evaluate the predictive value of various indices, including SIRI, SII, NLR, and dNLR, in predicting clinical vasospasm. Methods : A retrospective analysis was performed on a cohort of 96 patients who met the inclusion criteria out of a total of 139 patients admitted Trakya University Hospital with a confirmed diagnosis of aSAH between January 2013 and December 2021. Diagnostic procedures, neurological examinations, and laboratory tests were performed to assess the patients' condition. The Student's t-test compared age variables, while the chi-square test compared categorical variables between the non-vasospasm (NVS) and vasospasm (VS) groups. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were used to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of laboratory parameters, calculating the area under the ROC curve, cut-off values, sensitivity, and specificity. A significance level of p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results : The study included 96 patients divided into two groups : NVS and VS. Various laboratory parameters, such as NLR, SII, and dNLR, were measured daily for 15 days, and statistically significant differences were found in NLR on 7 days, with specific cut-off values identified for each day. SII showed a significant difference on day 9, while dNLR had significant differences on days 2, 4, and 9. Graphs depicting the values of these markers for each day are provided. Conclusion : Neuroinflammatory biomarkers, when used alongside radiology and scoring scales, can aid in predicting prognosis, determining severity and treatment decisions for aSAH, and further studies with larger patient groups are needed to gain more insights. Organic matter is essential in improving the physical, chemical and biological properties of soils. Thus, the organic matter is widely considered a crucial indicator of environmental quality and biodiversity. In this study, the effect of gyttja addition as a soil conditioner on some physical and chemical properties of soils formed on volcanic and serpentine parent materials was investigated. The layout of the incubation study was randomized plots with 3 replications and the study lasted for 8 months to determine the value of gyttja in improving soil quality in two different parent materials. The results showed that pH, EC, total CaCO3, soil organic matter (SOM), wet aggregate stability (WSA), structural stability index (SSI), Ca-ex, Mg-ex, Fe-ex and P-av values of volcanic soils were significantly increased with increasing gyttja addition rates, while dispersion ratio (DR), Cu-ex and Cd-ex values were decreased. Likewise, pH, total CaCO3, SOM, WSA, SSI, Ca-ex and P-av values of serpentine soils were increased with increasing gyttja rates, while DR, Mg-ex, Fe-ex, Cd-ex, Ni-ex, Mn-ex, Cu-ex and Zn-ex values were decreased. The changes in the values of soil properties were statistically significant. The results demonstrated that gyttja addition overall decreased the erosion susceptibility and heavy metal contents of serpentine and volcanic soils. Moreover, the gyttja addition ameliorated some of the chemical soil properties. Therefore, gyttja could be suggested as a soil conditioner in the remediation of problematic soils. This study aimed to investigate whether the postoperative change in patients after orthognathic surgery, whose facial aesthetics was affected, led to detectable differences using Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services Rekognition, and Face++, which were commercially available face recognition systems. Photographs of 35 patients after orthognathic surgery were analyzed using 3 well-known cloud computing–based facial recognition application programming interfaces to compute similarity scores between preoperative and postoperative photographs. The preoperative, relaxed, smiling, profile, and semiprofile photographs of the patients were compared separately to validate the relevant application programming interfaces. Patient characteristics and type of surgery were recorded for statistical analysis. Kruskal-Wallis rank sum tests were performed to analyze the relationship between patient characteristics and similarity scores. Multiple-comparison Wilcoxon rank sum tests were performed on the statistically significant characteristics. The similarity scores in the Face++ program were lower than those in the Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services Rekognition. In addition, the similarity scores were higher in smiling photographs. A statistically significant difference was found in similarity scores between relaxed and smiling photographs according to different programs (P <0.05). For all 3 facial recognition programs, comparable similarity scores were found in all photographs taken before and after surgery across sex, type of surgery, and type of surgical approach. The type of surgery and surgical approach, sex, and amount of surgical movement did not significantly affect similarity scores in any facial recognition programs (P >0.05). The similarity scores between the photographs before and after orthognathic surgery were high, suggesting that the software algorithms might value measurements on the basis of upper-face landmarks more than lower-face measurements. • Face similarity scores of patients who underwent orthognathic surgery were evaluated. • Three different cloud computing–based facial recognition APIs were used. • Facial similarity scores for the 3 APIs were 91%-99%. • The type of surgery and surgical approach did not significantly affect face similarity scores. • Face similarity scores were impacted by pose variations. Background: Buccal mucosa metastasis is rare in breast cancer patients. Case Presentation: A 50-year-old female breast cancer patient with invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) in his eight years follow-up period presented with a swelling in the right eye. Head and neck MRI was showed soft tissue formation with dimensions of 59x31 mm was detected in the axial plane, extending from the level of the right infratemporal fossa to the right buccinator muscle and right maxillary sinus in front of the alveolar process. In the right periorbital region, there was a thickness increase of up to 1 cm in the thickest part of the globe, which was evident in the anterolateral. In addition, there was no bone destruction in the right infratemporal region in maxillofacial CT, and no additional organ metastasis was detected in PET-CT performed for systemic scanning. In the histopathological examination of the tissue, carcinoma infiltration was detected. Radiotherapy was applied to the right buccal and orbital region of the patient as 30 Gy in 12 fractions (2.5 Gy per fraction) with volumetric modulated arc therapy technique and then 15 Gy in 6 fractions (2.5 Gy per fraction) boost radiotherapy with the adaptive technique were applied. At the follow-up 2 months later, clinical response was observed in the patient, and significant regression of the lesion was observed in facial and orbital MRI. At the 15th month follow-up of the patient, clinical and radiological remission continues. All clinical complaints regressed. Conclusion: ILC is a subtype of breast cancer that is characterized by unusual metastasis. Therefore, during the follow-up of these patients, it is necessary to monitor both laboratory values and clinical complaints very carefully. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, a new reversible data hiding method using most significant bits and center shifting technique in dual images is proposed. The proposed reversible data hiding method aims to securely hide high-capacity secret data. Instead of directly embedding the secret data, the method calculates new values with (n + 1) bits secret data and the n most significant bits of the cover image pixel values. Thus, it is impossible to extract secret data without obtaining the original cover image. Also, the center shifting process is performed to minimize the mean square error. After this process, the secret data to be hidden in the dual images are in the range [ − 3 × 2 (n − 1) + 1 ,   3 × 2 (n − 1) − 1 ] . The pixel values of stego images are obtained by using the secret data in this range value and cover image pixel values. As a result of experimental studies, when the payload is 2.5 bits per pixel (bpp), the peak signal-to-noise ratio value (PSNR), which expresses the visual quality, is above 34 (dB). Throughout the ages, safely preserving and transmitting data that have extraordinary importance for humanity has increased its importance with rapid advances in computer technology. Steganography stores hidden data within the files, which are unnoticed by third parties, so it provides secure transmission of data to the receiver. In this study, a steganography-based GUI design has been carried out, which ensures that the agricultural data is safely stored and communicated to the other party. We used LSB one-bit, two-bit, three-bit substitution and PVD algorithms with GUI for stages of agricultural data hiding and extracting at cover images. We also provided extra security using the embedded key and shifting operations on the hidden data before hiding data the cover image. In short, we confused the hidden data in the cover image so that malicious people can't understand. In experimental studies, performance analysis was evaluated by comparing various criteria as similarity ratio (Structural Similarity Index Measure, SSIM), stego image quality (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio, PSNR) and data hiding capacity (Payload). In this study, a computer‐based evaluation (CBE) software tool, namely CBE‐MCQs, is proposed to assist the instructor to evaluate and analyze traditional classroom‐based exams, which include multiple‐choice questions (MCQs) reliably, quickly, and automatically. Using the proposed CBE‐MCQs software tool while performing question analysis, the learning outcome‐based analyzes are performed by matching the learning outcomes of the courses with the exam questions. With question‐based evaluations, item analyzes such as item difficulty, item discrimination, and item distracters can be made easily. Also, with the question‐based evaluation, the instructor of the course can effectively measure the extent to which students achieve the learning outcomes of the related course. Thus, the CBE‐MCQs tool helps successful maintenance of both accreditation and training processes with the analysis it provides to the instructors. In addition, the final exam assessment of the course based on MCQs within the scope of the case study was carried out with the CBE‐MCQs software tool. Each MCQ was evaluated based on classical theory within the scope of difficulty index (P), discrimination index (D), and distracter efficiency (DE). It is observed that association between D and P was statistically significant according to Pearson correlation (r = −0.600) and χ2 (χ2 = 15.98, df = 8; α = 0.05). Also, a system usability survey of 10 statements was applied to the instructors using this software to evaluate the usability of the CBE‐MCQs software tool. As a result of a series of experimental studies and survey, the developed CBE‐MCQs software tool is evaluated as simple, effective, and satisfactory by 87.4% of the instructors. Background: Primary Sjögren's syndrome is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease. Minor salivary gland biopsy is the gold standard for the diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome. Superb microvascular imaging, power Doppler ultrasound, and color Doppler of the salivary glands represent non-invasive, non-irradiating modality for evaluating the vascularity of the salivary glands in the diagnosis and follow-up of primary Sjögren's syndrome. Aims: To evaluate the efficacy of superb microvascular imaging and vascularity index in salivary glands for the sonographic diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome. Study Design: Prospective case-control study. Methods: Twenty participants with primary Sjögren's syndrome and 20 healthy subjects were included in the study. Both parotid glands and submandibular glands were evaluated by superb microvascular imaging, power Doppler ultrasound, and color Doppler. The diagnostic accuracy of superb microvascular imaging was compared using these techniques. Results: In the patient group, the vascularity index values of superb microvascular imaging in parotid glands and submandibular glands were 3.5±1.66, 5.06±1.94, respectively. While the same values were 1.0±0.98 and 2.44±1.34 in the control group (p≤0.001). In the patient group, the vascularity index values of power Doppler ultrasound in parotid glands and submandibular glands were 1.3±1.20 and 2.59±1.82, respectively. While the same values were 0.3±0.32 and 0.85±0.68 in the control group (p≤0.001). The superb microvascular imaging vascularity index cut-off value for the diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome in parotid glands that maximizes the accuracy was 1.85 (area under the curve: 0.906; 95% confidence interval: 0.844, 0.968), and its sensitivity and specificity were 87.5% and 72.5%, respectively. While the superb microvascular imaging vascularity index cut-off value for the diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome in submandibular gland that maximizes the accuracy was 3.35 (area under the curve: 0.873; 95% confidence interval: 0.800, 0.946), its sensitivity and specificity were 82.5% and 70%, respectively. Conclusion: Superb microvascular imaging with high reproducibility of the vascularity index has a higher sensitivity and specificity than the power Doppler ultrasound in the diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome. The goals of image steganography are to simultaneously reach maximum embedding capacity, enhanced embedding efficiency, better image quality, and more security. We present a two-step data hiding method that improves image quality, capacity, and embedding efficiency, and also provides stego security. In the first step of the proposed method, the hidden data are encrypted with the key words and shifting method to provide security. In the second stage, we propose adaptive least-significant-bit (LSB)+3 type I and adaptive LSB+3 type II methods to hide encrypted data in the cover image. The image quality of the stego image obtained from the proposed adaptive LSB+3 method is better than the traditional three-bit LSB methods. When maximum data are embedded in the cover image, a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) greater than 41 dB is reached. Experimental studies show that adaptive LSB+3 type I and adaptive LSB+3 type II methods are higher PSNR values (3.48% and 5.73%) than the standard three-bit LSB substitution methods. In this paper, a new hybrid stereovision-based distance-estimation approach is proposed for indoor mobile robot platforms. To calculate the distances between the robot and object, triangulation method is used first. However, this technique is insufficient for objects located on the left or right side of the robot or the case of the stereo camera pair fixed to the robot with an angle down to the floor. Therefore, a new approach is proposed by adding a look-up table and curve-fitting methods to the triangulation technique. In this approach, the stereo camera pair is located on the robot with an angle down to the floor. In the experimental studies, an average accuracy rate of 97.69% is obtained. The Manhattan and Euclidean distances of objects that are not in the same line as the robot are also calculated. In this study, the objects found in the environment are detected and classified in real time, the results obtained are presented. Hazelnut fruit is used in the experimental studies of the proposed method. The image belongs to hazelnut that is in a work environment is taken with the camera, it is processed by using image processing techniques. The size and area data of hazelnut on the image plane is calculated. By evaluating the obtained data, the hazelnut is divided into three classes as small (K1), medium (K2) and big (K3) in real time application. This process is performed using mean-based classification and K-means clustering methods. Detection and classification of cluster centers is provided by using the information database obtained from the data of hazelnut fruit. Hazelnut fruits found in the experimental environment are determined with 100% accuracy using image processing techniques. The classification of hazelnut fruits using the mean-based and K-means clustering methods has been compared. As a result of the comparison, it is observed that the two methods realized are similar ratio of 90% to 100%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A web-based virtual and remote laboratory environment is developed, realized and proposed for real time control and monitoring of a mobile robot in an indoor environment. In this laboratory, a real time and continuous video stream of indoor laboratory environment is viewed by wireless IP camera mounted to the ceiling. The localization of the robot is also implemented using this IP camera. In this environment, a virtual target and virtual obstacles are located anywhere on the video image taken by the user. The robot is guaranteed to arrive at the virtual target avoiding virtual obstacles using the shortest path. The video stream of the robot's navigation is monitored through the web environment. The robot is controlled by a BeagleBoard-xM single board computer. The PC web server symmetrically communicates with the other web server on the BeagleBoard-xM, executing developed application software. Since genetic algorithms generate alternative solutions, it is utilized as a path planning algorithm. Parameters such as population size and maximum generation of genetic algorithms applied to get the shortest path for the robot are tuned via the web-based virtual laboratory environment. The robot is also controlled manually through the web environment. At the conclusion of the experiments, the results are monitored on the web-based virtual laboratory environment. A low-cost mobile robot virtual remote laboratory is designed and implemented for engineering education in this paper. In this study, nuts are determined using image processing techniques and classified by k‐means and k‐means++ methods in rapid time. Firstly, pixel area (PA) and square area (SA) features are extracted by an image processing technique. Then, the obtained data are classified by the k‐means and k‐means++ clustering methods. We present a new method called the pixel area and square area method (PASAM), which is realized by clustering feature selection of PA and SA values. Our proposed method is applied on numerous real RGB images of nuts for different cases. Experimental results show that k‐means++ clustering based on PASAM is more efficient than other techniques such as k‐means and k‐means++ clustering based on PA and SA. The nuts in the working environment are determined and classified with 100% accuracy by PASAM. Practical applications: The proposed research distinguishes small, medium and big nuts based on image processing and PASAM. Objective: In the current literature, there are few studies investigating the relationship between premature coronary atherosclerosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and premature coronary atherosclerosis., Methods: In this cross-sectional study, female patients aged <55 years and male patients aged <50 years were enrolled. Both male and female patients underwent coronary angiography and abdomen ultrasonography between 2014 and 2019. A stepwise binary logistic regression analysis was carried out to evaluate the independent variables related to premature coronary atherosclerosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. A p-value<0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: nonalcoholic fatty liver disease was present in 44% of patients (n=377). Notably, 62% of the patients were female and the mean age was 44.5 (39-49) years. In a multivariate analysis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease was shown to be an independent risk factor of premature coronary atherosclerosis (OR 1.438; 95%CI, 1.050-1.969; p=0.024)., Conclusions: The presence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is an important independent risk factor for the development of premature coronary atherosclerosis.

Background/aim: Exercise enhances endothelium-dependent vasodilation; however, it is unclear whether intermittent exercise has a different effect on vascular endothelial function compared to continuous exercise. This study aimed to compare vascular endothelial function following intermittent exercise including short rest intervals with continuous exercise, both at the anaerobic threshold level., Materials and Methods: Peak oxygen consumption (VO 2 peak) and anaerobic threshold were measured in physically active healthy young men (n = 12) by breath-by-breath analysis. After completion of intermittent exercise consisting of eight 1-min long intervals at the anaerobic threshold intensity with 75-s rest periods, total work was calculated. Equivalent work was done during continuous exercise. Immediately after the two exercise periods, venous blood lactate, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), endothelin-1, N-terminal proANP (NTproANP), N-terminal proBNP (NTproBNP), and N-terminal proCNP (NTproCNP) levels were measured. Brachial artery flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) was measured before exercise and 30 min after exercise., Results: Mean VO 2 peak level was 33.42 ± 5.9 ml/min/kg and anaerobic threshold level was 47.33 ± 5.85%. Lactate levels following continuous exercise were higher than levels following intermittent exercise (27.76 ± 7.43 mg/dl, 18.54 ± 4.87 mg/dl respectively; p˂0.05). Endothelin-1, eNOS, NTproANP, NTproBNP, and NTproCNP levels were similar after both modalities of exercise (p > 0.05). No significant difference was found in FMD response when comparing intermittent and continuous exercise (7.05 ± 15.11%, 2.49 ± 16.24% respectively; p > 0.05)., Conclusion: Since blood lactate levels are higher following continuous exercise, individuals who find difficulty exercising may prefer an intermittent form of exercise.
