Medical textiles are one of the fastest growing sectors in the technical textile market. Wound dress is one of the significant applications with the largest share in medical textiles. Active molecules doped in the dressings may be therapeutic agents, vitamins, antibiotics, minerals, and growth factors, which contribute to wound healing. Medical plants have a great potential with positive effects in wound care and accelerate the rate of wound healing. Pine bark, which is known to exhibit wound healing properties, is also used in the medical field. The purpose of this study is to design a new wound dressing enriched with Pinus brutia extract. Microwave-assisted extraction which is an environmentally friendly method was carried out at 70℃, 900 W for 10 min to obtain the extracts. Subsequently, P. brutia bark extract was embedded to the alginate gel dressing and characterized and evaluated by in vivo studies on rats. According to the results, the extract was rapidly released from the alginate gel in the first 6 h, whereas the release was slowly increased to 24 h and then reached a steady state. Therefore, P. brutia extract-embedded alginate gel dressings applied for in vivo studies were changed every 24 h, reaching a healing rate of 75.7%, whereas the control group showed a healing rate of 48.6% indicating the superiority of the newly designed wound healing dress enriched with pine bark extract. This paper focused on the improvement of fastnesses and color strength of pigment printed textile fabrics. To improve fastness and color strength of the polyester fabrics, atmospheric plasma treatment was used. Polyester fabric was treated with argon or air plasma at atmospheric pressure, and plasma pre-treatment effect on the pigment printing was evaluated. A printing paste comprising synthetic thickener, binder, and pigment was applied using a flat screen printing technique. The fabric was then dried and exposed to heat. The cured prints were evaluated for color property, color fastness to washing, and dry/wet rubbing. The effects of atmospheric plasma treatments were evaluated by XPS, SEM and AFM. When the properties of atmospheric plasma treated samples were compared to those of untreated sample, higher K/S values were obtained. In this study, atmospheric pressure plasma (APP) treatment was applied to polypropylene (PP) fabric with nonpolymerizing gases, such as air, argon, and nitrogen. Properties of the APP-treated samples including low-stress mechanical behavior, air permeability, water vapor permeability, and thermal characteristics were evaluated. Tensile and friction coefficient of the specimens were also measured. The changes in these properties are believed to be closely related to the inter-fiber and inter-yarn frictional force induced by the APP. The decrease in the air permeability of the APP-treated PP fabric was probably because of the plasma action effect on change in fabric surface morphology, which was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy micrographs. The change in the thermal properties of the APP-treated PP fabric was in good agreement with the earlier findings and can be attributed to the amount of air trapped between the yarns and fibers. This study suggests that the APP treatment can influence the final properties of the PP fabric, and also provides information for developing APP-treated PP fabric for industrial use. Knitted wool fabrics were treated with atmospheric argon plasma, enzyme (protease), chitosan and a combination of these processes. The treated fabrics were evaluated in terms of their dyeability, colour fastness and shrinkage properties, as well as bursting strength. The surface morphology was characterised by SEM images. In order to show the functionalisation of a wool surface after plasma treatment, XPS analysis was done. Our results reveal that atmospheric plasma has an etching effect and increases the functionality of a wool surface, which is evident from SEM and XPS analysis. Atmospheric plasma treatment enhances the adhesion of chitosan to the surface and improves the hydrophility of the fibre. Enzymatic treatment improves the coating ability of chitosan. All these processes produce high dyeing efficiency and shrink-resistance in wool fabric. Plasma treatment has no significant effect on bursting strength, unlike enzymatic treatment. The loss of bursting strength after plasma and enzymatic treatment is recovered, to a certain degree, by chitosan treatment. In the present work, we investigated the combined effect of poly(styrene-methyl methacrylate-acrylic acid) [P(St-MMA-AA)] PCs with the disperse dye C.I. Disperse Red 343 on the photonic crystals (PCs) shape, distribution, organization, iridescence, chemical structure, thermal stability, and reflectance. PCs were successfully produced in the form of highly spherical, monodisperse colloidal structures. Presence of dye in the PCs inner core-shell structure was confirmed via Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy. The PCs brightness and iridescent effect was enhanced by the presence of the dyestuff, which also promoted the self-assembly of the colloidal nanospheres in the form of arrays. The P(St-MMA-AA) PCs thermal stability did not alter with the introduction of the dye. In a side experiment, dyed PCs were also coated onto dyed polyamide fabrics. Data reported successful coating of the textile fabric and an improvement of its reflectance. Fabric immobilization fostered the self-assembling of the dyed colloidal nanospheres in the form of well-organized face-centered cubic, closed-packed arrays. This is the simplest and most energy favorable organization for PCs. The combination of disperse dyes with PCs is a very recent and challenging idea and could open new ways to understand the influence the PCs photonic-band structure may exert on the photoluminescence properties of the dyes embedded in the PCs inner space, and vice versa.
