The structure and in-plane dielectric properties of Ba[Zr.sub.0.2][Ti.sub.0.8][O.sub.3] thin film grown on the [(LaAl[O.su.3]).sub.0.3][([Sr.sub.2]AlTa[O.sub.6]).sub.0.35] (001) single-crystal substrates are examined. Butterfly-shaped C-V characteristic curve has confirmed the in-plane ferroelectricity, thus demonstrating the potential of BaSrTi[O.sub.3] thin films as a candidate for microwave device applications.
