Enquadramento: a insuficiência respiratória é uma síndrome com grande impacto nos internamentos, na morbilidade e mortalidade. A aplicabilidade do oxigénio nasal de alto fluxo tem sido alvo de interesse no doente crítico. Objetivo: conhecer a efetividade do oxigénio nasal de alto fluxo no tratamento da insuficiência respiratória no adulto em unidades de cuidados intensivos. Métodos: revisão sistemática de efetividade que utiliza a estratégia PICO e recomendações do Joanna Briggs Institute. A pesquisa foi realizada em agosto de 2021 com recurso às plataformas de acesso PubMed e EBSCOhost. Resultados: identificaram-se 583 resultados. Foram analisados seis ensaios clínicos randomizados. A seleção foi feita após eliminação de duplicados; leitura do título, resumos e textos integrais de acordo com o diagrama Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. Conclusão: o oxigénio nasal de alto fluxo revelou-se confortável, tolerável e eficaz no tratamento da insuficiência respiratória hipoxémica e hipercápnica. Foi eficaz quando comparado com oxigenoterapia convencional na pós-extubação de doentes hipoxémicos e na redução da pressão parcial de dióxido de carbono quando comparado com a Ventilação Não Invasiva nos doentes hipercápnicos.

Abstract Background The main objective of this research was to evaluate the acceptance of technology based on a wearable lifelogging camera in a sample of older adults diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods A mixed-method design was used, consisting of a self-report questionnaire, numerous images taken by users, and a series of focus group discussions. The patients were involved in an individualized training programme. Results Nine MCI patients and their caregiver relatives were included. They showed good acceptance of the camera and downloaded an appropriate number of images on a daily basis. Perceived severity and ease of use were the main factors associated with the intention to use the device. Conclusions Older adults with MCI can become competent users of lifelogging wearable cameras with a good level of acceptance. Privacy concerns are outweighed by the potential benefits for memory. Limitations, strengths and implications for future research are discussed.

Patients with severe traumatic brain injury (STBI) often experience an abnormal hemostasis that contributes to mortality and unfavorable neurological outcomes. Objectives: We aimed to analyze epidemiologic, clinical, and laboratory factors associated with mortality in patients with STBI during the first 48 h after in-hospital admission. Methods: We performed an observational retrospective study of STBI patients with associated extracranial trauma [defined as Injury Severity Score (ISS) ≥ 16 with an Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) head and neck ≥ 3 and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) ≤ 8] admitted to a Level II trauma center over seven years (2015–2021). Patients were divided into two groups: survivors and dead. We assessed differences regarding demographics, trauma severity, hemodynamics, disability, need for surgery, length of stay, transfusions, need for massive transfusion protocol, and hemostatic laboratory parameters at different time points. Results: A total of 134 STBI patients were included. Patients who died were older, mostly men, and showed higher trauma severity and disability. Hemoglobin, platelets, and clotting parameters deteriorated after admission to the emergency department (ED) with significant differences between groups within the first 24 h after admission. Platelet count < 150 × 103/μL at ED arrival, GCS, and age were independent risk factors for mortality. Conclusions: Older age, GCS, and platelet count at ED arrival were independent risk factors for mortality in STBI patients with associated extracranial trauma. Early thrombocytopenia < 150 × 103/μL at ED arrival may be used as a simple prognostic tool to early predict mortality between non-isolated STBI.

This study sought to identify the psychosocial factors that influence handwashing behaviour and to design behaviour change techniques applying the risk, attitude, norm, ability, and self-regulation (RANAS) behaviour change approach in Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. This was a cross-sectional study conducted in four Rohingya camps located in Ukhiya and Teknaf sub-districts. Participants were selected by systematic random sampling. A structured interviewer-administered questionnaire was used. Analysis of variance testing (ANOVA) was used to determine the significant predicting variables. A total of 1,358 individuals participated in the interview. The mean age was 31.11 ranging from 13 to 75 years. The majority were female (84.9%). Around 75% of participants reported practising handwashing. Several psychosocial predictors were identified for handwashing behaviour with medium to large effect size such as health knowledge, beliefs about costs and benefits, feelings, social norms, abilities, and self-regulation factors. Significant predictors were additionally identified in individual camps. The behaviour change techniques included providing information, demonstration of handwashing, providing rewards, evoking emotions, and public commitments amongst others proposed in this study. Identified psychosocial determinants should be considered while promoting sustainable handwashing behaviour along with adequate supplies and infrastructure. This study also suggests evaluating the proposed behaviour change interventions considering the contextual factors related to handwashing. New and exotic ground states of magnetic materials are highly sought after and are extensively studied for the insights they provide into the thermodynamics of disorder and fundamental magnetic interactions. By controlling the crystal structure of an appropriate magnetic lattice, it is possible to cause the strong magnetic exchange interactions to sum to zero and so be frustrated. Due to the presence of this frustration, the lowest energy configuration that results may be crucially dependent on the tiniest of energy differences between a multitude of states that have (almost) the same energy. The keen interest in these materials arises from the fact that these finely balanced systems offer a way of probing classical or quantum mechanical interactions that are of fundamental importance but are too weak to be observed in non-frustrated systems. Here, we combine local and crystallographic probes of the cation-ordered double perovskite Ba2MnMoO6 that contains a face-centered cubic lattice of S = 5/2 Mn2+ cations. Neutron diffraction measurements below 9.27(7) K indicate that a fourfold degenerate non-collinear antiferromagnetic state exists with almost complete ordering of the Mn2+ spins. Muon spin relaxation measurements provide a local probe of the magnetic fields inside this material over the t1/2 = 2.2 µs lifetime of a muon, indicating a slightly lower Néel transition temperature of 7.9(1) K. The dc susceptibility data do not show the loss of magnetization that should accompany the onset of the antiferromagnetic order; they indicate that a strongly antiferromagnetically coupled paramagnetic state [θ = −73(3) K] persists down to 4 K, at which temperature a weak transition occurs. The behavior of this material differs considerably from the closely related compositions Ba2MnMO6 (M = W, Te), which show collinear ordering arrangements and well defined antiferromagnetic transitions in the bulk susceptibility. This suggests that the Mo6+ cation leads to a fine balance between the nearest and next-nearest neighbor superexchange in these frustrated double perovskite structures.

Mexico has at least 46 volcanic centers (including monogenetic volcanic fields) that are considered active or potentially active. Due to the federal governance of the country, the Centro Nacional de Prevención de Desastres (CENAPRED) is the entity responsible for monitoring natural hazards. Individual Mexican states also monitor active volcanoes within their territoryand through local universities. Specific observatories exist for Colima, Citlaltépetl (Pico de Orizaba), San Martín Tuxtla, El Chichón, and Tacaná volcanoes, which are considered among the volcanoes with the highest hazard potential in the country. Details on instrumentation, data acquisition, hazard management, information dissemination and outreach are given for each volcano and observatory. The creation of a National Volcanological Service, based at CENAPRED and in full cooperation with local university-based observatories, would help consolidate all monitoring data and official information on active volcanoes at a single institution, procure and distribute resources, and allocate those resources according to the relative risk posed by the different volcanoes. Individualmente, algunos estados mexicanos también monitorean los volcanes activos dentro de su territorio, a través de las universidades locales, por lo que existen observatorios específicos para Colima, Citlaltépetl (Pico de Orizaba), San Martín Tuxtla, El Chichón y Tacaná; todos estos considerados entre los volcanes de mayor riesgo relativo del país. Se proporcionan detalles sobre instrumentación, adquisición de datos, gestión de riesgos y difusión y divulgación de información para cada volcán y observatorio. La creación de un Servicio Vulcanológico Nacional, con sede en CENAPRED, y en cooperación plena con los observatorios universitarios locales, ayudaría a concentrar todos los datos de monitoreo e información oficial sobre los volcanes activos en una sola institución, así como a adquirir y asignar recursos, de acuerdo con el riesgo relativo que representan los diferentes volcanes.

This research proposes a method for the detection of semantic similarities in text snippets; the method achieves an unsupervised extraction and comparison of semantic information by mimicking skills for the identification of clauses and possible verb conjugations, the selection of the most accurate organization of the parts of speech, and similarity analysis by a direct comparison on the parts of speech from a pair of text snippets. The method for the extraction of the parts of speech in each text exploits a knowledge base structured as a dictionary and a thesaurus to identify the possible labels of each word and its synonyms. The method consists of the processes of perception, debiasing, reasoning and assessment. The perception module decomposes the text into blocks of information focused on the elicitation of the parts of speech. The debiasing module reorganizes the blocks of information due to the biases that may be produced in the previous perception. The reasoning module finds the similarities between blocks from two texts through analyses of similarities on synonymy, morphological properties, and the relative position of similar concepts within the texts. The assessment generates a judgement on the output produced by the reasoning as the averaged similarity assessment obtained from the parts of speech similarities of blocks. The proposed method is implemented on an English language version to exploit a knowledge base in English for the extraction of the similarities and differences of texts. The system implements a set of syntactic and logical rules that enable the autonomous reasoning that uses a knowledge base regardless of the concepts and knowledge domains of the latter. A system developed with the proposed method is tested on the “test” dataset used on the SemEval 2017 competition on seven knowledge bases compiled from six dictionaries and two thesauruses. The results indicate that the performance of the method increases as the degree of completeness of concepts and their relations increase, and the Pearson correlation for the most accurate knowledge base is 77%.

The purpose of the study was to design a device for the dissolution of fertilizers for agricultural use in an automatic and environmentally sustainable way to facilitate the work of farmers. To achieve this goal, an outdated blade design was used, which generates turbulent and laminar flows thanks to the angle of inclination of its blades. In tests, the combination of these two flows gave a better result compared to laminar and turbulent flows separately. The best results were achieved by varying the spin and speed, the time between spins, and the rest time. The time it would take to dissolve the mixture was drastically reduced if it were conducted in the traditional way (manually) or compared with commercial mixers. In conclusion, the technique used for the dissolution of agricultural minerals is more effective and reduces time, energy, and effort. This was able to reduce the time necessary to dissolve the fertilizer by 93 percent compared to doing it manually and by 66 percent compared to using commercial mixers, in a solution of 100 L of water per 100 kg of ammonium sulfate.

This mixed-methods study examines the interrelated nature of a target language and culture acquisition and project-based learning (PBL) at a U.S. West Coast university. From researching to creating their own Portuguese-style tiles as the public cultural products of practices and perspectives at a Portuguese World Language class, instruction and learning are triangulated under the theoretical tenets of PBL and World Languages (WL) approaches. PBL is grounded in crosscutting design principles of real-world utility (CONDLIFFE et. al, 2017). Similarly, WL reflects the increasing importance of the five Cs in learner-centered and proficiency-oriented instruction for a globalized world (KATRADIS, FOX & TIAN, 2017). Results show that while experiential learning has become an increasingly central component of capacity building, the ongoing debate regarding how to implement intercultural communication and global competence skills continues (ACTFL, 2012).

Este artigo enfoca a estereotipagem comparando ensino, aprendizagem e materiais de Português como Segunda Língua e de Língua Estrangeira. O debate acadêmico atual mostra que os estereótipos afetam a aquisição de línguas estrangeiras, apesar de o ato de categorizar o mundo nos ajudar a reconhecer o desconhecido. Ainda assim, os estereótipos podem servir como ponto de partida para o exercício da desconstrução, recorrente nas Práticas para Alavancagem de Ensino, tradução livre (High-Leverage Teaching Practice, ou HLTP em inglês) e aplicáveis a qualquer abordagem de ensino, público ou alinhamento de conteúdo (GLISAN; DONATO, 2017). A estereotipagem também ocorre fora da sala de aula quando externalizada numa dicotomia de distanciamento e de pertença: quanto mais os aprendizes se envolvem na cultura-alvo, mais se distanciam da cultura fonte. Os resultados indicam que categorias de distância linguística e de status de identidade só são fortemente influenciadas por repertórios de vida, e comprometem qualquer tentativa de pluricentrismo na abordagem de Português para Comunicação Internacional, se o ensino, a aprendizagem, e o conteúdo girarem em torno do conceito de melhores práticas, modelos e observações, ao invés da desconstrução,como visto nas HLTPs

Genome complexity has been associated with poor outcome in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Previous cooperative studies established five abnormalities as the cut-off that best predicts an adverse evolution by chromosome banding analysis (CBA) and genomic microarrays (GM). However, data comparing risk stratification by both methods are scarce. Herein, we assessed a cohort of 340 untreated CLL patients highly enriched in cases with complex karyotype (CK) (46.5%) with parallel CBA and GM studies. Abnormalities found by both techniques were compared. Prognostic stratification in three risk groups based on genomic complexity (0-2, 3- 4 and ≥5 abnormalities) was also analyzed. This article aims to discuss the use of folkcomunication strategies in PSOL (Party Socialism and Freedom) 2016´s electoral campaign of for the position in the City Hall in Cuiabá. Such strategies can be better understood under the notion, still in development by these authors, of cybercuiabania. We can preliminarily define cybercuiabania as the set of cybercultural interventions produced through the incorporation of elements of popular culture and folklore of the Cuiabá macro-region, Mato Grosso. We chose, for the sake of illustration in this work, two advertising pieces of the said electoral campaign: the logo and the main jingle.

Oxidative deintercalation of copper ions from the sulfide layers of the layered mixed-valent manganite oxide sulfide Sr2MnO2Cu1.5S2 results in control of the copper-vacancy modulated superstructure and the ordered arrangement of magnetic moments carried by the manganese ions. This soft chemistry enables control of the structures and properties of these complex materials which complement mixed-valent perovskite and perovskite-related transition metal oxides.

The aphids Schizaphis graminum (Rondani) (greenbug) and Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko) (Russian wheat aphid, RWA) were collected from several localities in Argentina and Southern Chile. Clones were established from aphids collected at each location. The host preferences were studied in free choice tests. Biotypes were characterized on the basis of aphid antibiosis and host plant tolerance. The production of sexuals was assessed under natural conditions, from March to November in 1997-2001, at La Plata (34°55' S, 57°57' W). The greenbug distribution ranged from 24°40' to 43°28' S, and was bounded between isothermals 18-20°C and 8-10°C, and isohyets 400-600 mm and greater than 1200 mm. The aphids at all localities were collected from a wide range of cultivated and wild hosts. The biotypes in ten out of thirty-four populations were identified. One population was obligatorily parthenogenetic, the remainder cyclically parthenogenetic. No correlation was found between the region they came from and the period required for the induction of sexuals. RWA was found between 26°50' and 43°28' S, bounded by the isothermals 20-22°C and 8-10°C, and isohyets 400-600 mm and 2000 mm. In Chile, this aphid was only found in Osorno County, which lies on isothermal 8-10°C and is bounded by the isohyets 1000 mm and 2000 mm. Only a few RWA genotypes (clones) produced sexuals irrespective of the host they were collected from, period of the year, region, current host, or the day length and average temperature of the rearing conditions. For the first time, RWA was found infesting cultivated as well as wild oats in South America. At low latitudes, populations of both aphid species were found only infesting wild Sorghum halepensis (L).

Background: Neurocognitive deficits associated with chemotherapy represent an increasing concern, and the development of animal models to investigate chemotherapy-induced alterations in memory is warranted Aims: To examine the effects of systemic injection of cisplatin on formation of fear-motivated memory in rats. Methods: Male Wistar rats were given an intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of saline or cisplatin followed by inhibitory avoidance (IA) training. Memory retention was tested 1 and 7 days after training. Control experiments using an open field were carried out to confirm the specificity of the cisplatin-induced alteration in IA performance. Results: Cisplatin induced a unexpected enhancement of IA performance measured 7 days after drug injection and training. Control experiments suggested that the effect could not be attributed to sensorimotor alterations or toxic effects. Discussion: The findings are discussed in the light of previous preclinical evidence that cancer chemotherapy can, under some conditions, lead to memory enhancement.

O objetivo da armazenagem de grãos e outros produtos agrícolas é manter as características qualitativas e quantitativas dos mesmos, observadas depois da secagem, durante períodos prolongados de tempo. Vários fatores podem vir a interferir nas características desses produtos, dentre eles os insetos são certamente um dos mais importantes, pois reduzem qualitativa e quantitativamente esses produtos. O uso de inseticidas químicos é bastante comum, mostrando eficiência no combate a esses insetos. Contudo, podem trazer sérios problemas a saúde humana. Uma alternativa é o uso de plantas que tenham ação inseticida, pois não causam prejuízos ao meio ambiente, nem necessitam de mão-de-obra qualificada para utilização, sendo possível o seu uso a nível de pequeno produtor. Portanto, objetiva-se com esta revisão de literatura reunir informações atualizadas de pesquisas sobre o controle de pragas de produtos armazenados, utilizando plantas com ação inseticida.

Aphids are a serious threat to agriculture, despite being a rather small group of insects. The about 4,000 species worldwide engage in highly interesting and complex relationships with their microbial fauna. One of the key symbionts in arthropods is Wolbachia, an α-Proteobacterium implicated in many important biological processes and believed to be a potential tool for biological control. Aphids were thought not to harbour Wolbachia; however, current data suggest that its presence in aphids has been missed, probably due to the low titre of the infection and/or to the high divergence of the Wolbachia strains of aphids. The goal of the present study is to map the Wolbachia infection status of natural aphids populations, along with the characterization of the detected Wolbachia strains. Out of 425 samples from Spain, Portugal, Greece, Israel and Iran, 37 were found to be infected. Our results, based mainly on 16S rRNA gene sequencing, indicate the presence of two new Wolbachia supergroups prevailing in aphids, along with some strains belonging either to supergroup B or to supergroup A.
