We report the growth and fabrication of midwave infrared InAs/GaSb strain layer superlattice (SLS) detectors. Growth of alternate interfaces leads to a reduced strain between the GaSb buffer and SLS (Δa∥/a=-5×10-4), enabling the growth of active regions up to 3 μm (625 periods). The structural, optical, and electrical properties of the active region were characterized using x-ray crystallography and photoluminescence, respectively. p-i-n detectors were grown using 625 periods of 8 ML (monolayer) InAs/8 ML GaSb as the active region. The λcutoff for the detectors was 4.6 μm with a conversion efficiency of 32% at Vb=-0.2 V. Detectivity was obtained using noise power spectral density measurements under 300 K 2π field of view illumination and was equal to 5.2×1010 and 3×1010 cm Hz1/2/W (Vb=-0.02 V, T=80 K) in the white noise and 1/f noise limit (at 50 Hz). Aim: This research aims to investigate the utility of the Near Infra-Red (NIR) photographic technique in visualizing forensic evidence in a post-mortem examination., Material and Methods: A total of twenty-six deceased (male: n = 15; female: n = 11) were brought to the Mortuary of King George's Medical University, Chowk, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India (226003), and were used to investigate the applicability of the human visible spectrum (HVS) & near-infrared photography. In the investigation, a modified Nikon D5300 crop-framed digital single-lens reflex camera was used for NIR Photography in combination with a Micro-Nikkor 105 mm, f/2.8, (Nikon Inc., Melville, NY, USA), Hoya R72 (760nm-860nm) infrared filter and a Nikon D5600 crop-framed digital single-lens reflex camera in combination with Nikkor 50mm lens for Human Visible Spectrum (HVS) Photography., Results: The finding of the study reported that the application of the NIR photography would be the best of the investigative techniques for visualization and photo-documentation of forensically relevant post-mortem findings, such as - trace evidences (e.g., blood spots & soil particles on dark clothing), in external findings (e.g., contusion on victim's body) also for internal findings in a road traffic accident (RTA), gunshot, and drowning victim (e.g., mud particles in the trachea of drowning victim & localizing contusion of the scalp in road traffic accident cases)., Conclusion: Human visible spectrum (HVS) photographs taken with Nikon D5600 provides substantial evidence for documentation purpose, the best results for trace evidence & contusion visualization in Post-mortem examination of the deceased were achieved with the NIR Photography in combination with indirect sunlight & room light as an infrared light source. Ovarian cancer is the deadliest malignant disease in women. Protein Kinase C delta (PRKCD; PKCδ) is serine/threonine kinase extensively linked to various cancers. In humans, PKCδ is alternatively spliced to PKCδI and PKCδVIII. However, the specific function of PKCδ splice variants in ovarian cancer has not been elucidated yet. Hence, we evaluated their expression in human ovarian cancer cell lines (OCC): SKOV3 and TOV112D, along with the normal T80 ovarian cells. Our results demonstrate a marked increase in PKCδVIII in OCC compared to normal ovarian cells. Therefore, we elucidated the role of PKCδVIII and the underlying mechanism of its expression in OCC. Using overexpression and knockdown studies, we demonstrate that PKCδVIII increases cellular survival and migration in OCC. Further, overexpression of PKCδVIII in T80 cells resulted in increased expression of Bcl2 and knockdown of PKCδVIII in OCC decreased Bcl2 expression. Using co-immunoprecipitations and immunocytochemistry, we demonstrate nuclear localization of PKCδVIII in OCC and further show increased association of PKCδVIII with Bcl2 and Bcl-xL in OCC. Using PKCδ splicing minigene, mutagenesis, siRNA and antisense oligonucleotides, we demonstrate that increased levels of alternatively spliced PKCδVIII in OCC is regulated by splice factor SRSF2. Finally, we verified that PKCδVIII levels are elevated in samples of human ovarian cancer tissue. Lithium chloride (LiCl) is commonly used in treatment of mood disorders; however, its usage leads to weight gain, which promotes metabolic disorders. Protein kinase C delta (PKCδ), a serine/threonine kinase, is alternatively spliced to PKCδI and PKCδII in 3T3-L1 cells. We previously demonstrated that PKCδI is the predominantly expressed isoform in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. Here, we demonstrate that LiCl treatment decreases PKCδI levels, increases formation of lipid droplets, and increases oxidative stress. Hence, we investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of PKCδI alternative splicing by LiCl. We previously demonstrated that the splice factor SFRS10 is essential for PKCδI splicing. Our results demonstrate that glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK3β) phosphorylates SFRS10, and SFRS10 is in a complex with long noncoding RNA NEAT1 to promote PKCδI splicing. Using PKCδ splicing minigene and RNA immunoprecipitation assays, our results demonstrate that upon LiCl treatment, NEAT1 levels are reduced, GSK3β activity is inhibited, and SFRS10 phosphorylation is decreased, which leads to decreased expression of PKCδI. Integration of the GSK3β signaling pathway with the ribonucleoprotein complex of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) NEAT1 and SFRS10 enables fine-tuning of PKCδI expression during adipogenesis. Knowledge of the molecular pathways impacted by LiCl provides an understanding of the ascent of obesity as a comorbidity in disease management.

Objectives: The aim of our study is to evaluate the incidence and etiology of maxillofacial fractures in autopsy cases of KGMU, Lucknow., Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 444 autopsy cases with maxillofacial injuries, who were brought to the mortuary of KGMU, Lucknow, for postmortem in the last year. Parameters such as gender, age, cause, type, and site of injury are evaluated., Result: The results of this study show that road traffic accidents are the main reason for maxillofacial injuries in the deceased, followed by railway accidents. Maxillofacial injuries are more common in adult males than in females. Majority cases also involved maxilla and zygomatic along with mandible. The most common type of facial fracture was Le Fort-2 fracture., Conclusion: Maxillofacial injuries are commonly seen in adult males, due to RTA, involving maxilla, zygomatic and mandible and presenting as Le Fort-2 fracture., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest.

Introduction: Nail psoriasis is challenging to treat. The few currently available therapies are limited in efficacy, and often produce unfavorable side effects. A plant extract widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, indigo naturalis (Qing Dai), is presented in this review as an alternative topical treatment for skin and nail psoriasis. The purpose of this article is to present information on a viable alternative treatment with a favorable side effect profile for a difficult disease to treat., Methods: A PubMed search for the term "indigo naturalis" was performed, and literature from 2006 to the present relevant to indigo naturalis and treatment of psoriasis and nail psoriasis was reviewed., Results: Indigo naturalis shares several therapeutic mechanisms with current psoriasis treatments, such as regulation of keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation, restoration of epidermal barrier function, and reduction of inflammatory processes. Clinically, it is well tolerated., Conclusion: Recent research of indigo naturalis suggests that it is a safe, inexpensive, and effective alternative topical treatment for skin and nail psoriasis.

Estimation of time of death is an indispensible requirement of every medico-legal autopsy, but unfortunately, there is not a single method by which it could be determined accurately. This study focused on the temperature-dependent postmortem degradation of cardiac troponin-T and its association with postmortem interval (PMI) in human. The analysis involved extraction of the protein, separation by denaturing gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), and visualization by Western blot using cTnT-specific monoclonal antibodies. The area of the bands within a lane was quantified by scanning and digitizing the image using Gel Doc (Universal Hood). The results indicate a characteristic banding pattern among human cadavers (n = 6) and a pseudo-linear relationship between percentage of cTnT degradation and the log of the time since death (r > 0.95), which can be used to estimate the postmortem interval. A needle-free system that delivers lidocaine to the dermis using pressurized gas is often used as an alternative anesthetic for venipuncture and intravenous catheterization in children. This case report illustrates the potential histologic artifacts that may arise when using a needleless device for a cutaneous punch biopsy. Fusion hybrids between normal macrophages and Cloudman S91 melanoma cells were shown earlier to have increased metastatic potential, along with high expression of beta1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase V and beta1,6-branched oligosaccharides. Curiously, hybrids, but not parental melanoma cells, also produced 'coarse melanin'- autophagic vesicles with multiple melanosomes. As beta1,6-branched oligosaccharides were known to be associated with metastasis, and coarse melanin had been described in invasive human melanomas, we looked for potential relationships between the two. Using lectin- and immunohistochemistry, we analyzed cell lines producing coarse melanin for beta1,6-branched oligosaccharides: gp100/pmel-17 (a melanosomal structural component) and CD63 (a late endosome/lysosome component associated with melanoma and certain other human cancers). Cell lines used in this study were (i) hybrid 94-H48, a highly metastatic, macrophage-melanoma experimental fusion hybrid; (ii) 6(neo) mouse melanoma cells, the weakly metastatic, parental fusion partner; and (iii) SKmel-23, a human melanoma cell line derived from a metastasis. Coarse melanin granules were prominent both in hybrids and in SKmel-23 cells, and co-localized with stains for beta1,6-branched oligosaccharides, gp100/pmel 17, and CD63. This is the first report of this phenotype being expressed in vitro, although co-expression of beta1,6-branched oligosaccharides and coarse melanin was recently shown to be a common and pervasive characteristic in archival specimens of human melanomas, and was most prominent in metastases. The results suggest that pathways of melanogenesis in melanoma may differ significantly from those in normal melanocytes. In vitro expression of this phenotype provides new biological systems for more detailed analyses of its genesis and regulation at the molecular genetic level.
