Purpose: Assess reproducibility of detection, staging, and grading of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) using wholebody diffusion-weighted imaging with background body signal suppression (WB-DWIBS). Material and methods: Thirty NHL patients underwent WB-DWIBS, divided into 2 groups according to staging and grading. Image analysis and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurement of the largest lymph node in each group were performed by 2 observers. Inter-observer agreement was performed. Results: Overall inter-observer agreement for detection of NHL was excellent (k = 0.843; 92.05%) with excellent inter-observer agreement of nodal disease (cervical, thoracic and abdominal) (k = 0.783, 0.769, and 0.856; 96.67%, 90.0%, and 93.3% respectively), extra-nodal disease (k = 1; 100%), and splenic involvement (k = 0.67; 83.3%). The overall inter-observer agreement of DWIBS in staging of NHL was excellent (k = 0.90; 94.9%) with excellent inter-observer agreement for stage I (k = 0.93; 96.4%), stage II (k = 0.90; 94.8%), stage III (k = 0.89; 94.6%), and stage IV (k = 0.88; 94.0%). There was significant difference between ADC in stage I, II (0.77 ± 0.13, 0.85 ± 0.09 × 10-3 mm²/s), and stage III, IV (0.63 ± 0.08, 0.64 ± 0.11 × 10-3 mm²/s, p < 0.002, < 0.001). Interclass correlation showed almost perfect agreement for ADC measurement in staging and grading groups (r = 0.96 and r = 0.85, respectively, p < 0.001). There was significant difference between ADC in aggressive lymphoma (0.65 ± 0.1, 0.67 ± 0.13 × 10-3 mm²/s) and indolent lymphoma (0.76 ± 0.14, 0.84 ± 0.09 × 10-3 mm²/s, p < 0.028, < 0.001). Conclusion: DWIBS is reproducible for detection and staging of nodal and extra-nodal involvement in patients with NHL. ADC can quantitatively participate in the staging and grading of NHL. Background Venous malformations may be complicated by localized intravascular coagulopathy which is a serious condition with hematological sequel. Prediction of localized intravascular coagulopathy is mandatory for prompt anticoagulation therapy. Laboratory and routine magnetic resonance imaging can predict localized intravascular coagulopathy in venous malformations; however, the results are variable. Purpose To predict venous malformations with localized intravascular coagulopathy with diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. Material and methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 55 patients (34 male, 21 female aged 14–64 years: mean 39 years) with venous malformations that underwent diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. The apparent diffusion coefficient value of venous malformations was calculated. Results The mean apparent diffusion coefficient value of venous malformations with localized intravascular coagulopathy (n = 26) (1.28 ± 0.18 × 10−3 mm2/s) was significantly different (P = 0.001) from venous malformations without localized intravascular coagulopathy (n = 29) (1.60 ± 0.18 × 10−3 mm2/s). When apparent diffusion coefficient value of 1.454 × 10−3 mm2/s was used as a threshold value for the prediction of venous malformations with localized intravascular coagulopathy, the best result was obtained with an accuracy of 83.6%, sensitivity of 84.6%, specificity of 82.8%, and area under the curve of 0.895. The apparent diffusion coefficient value of venous malformations was correlated with D-dimer level (r = −0.59, P = 0.006) and fibrinogen level (r = 0.73, P = 0.001). Conclusion The apparent diffusion coefficient value is a non-invasive imaging parameter that can be used to predict venous malformations with localized intravascular coagulopathy. Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the performance of the apparent diffusion coefficient in the detection of involvement of the medial and lateral rectus muscles in patients with Graves' orbitopathy. Methods and materials This prospective study was conducted on 33 consecutive patients (16 males, 17 females with a mean age of 36 years) with Graves' orbitopathy and 18 age- and sex-matched volunteers. The patients and volunteers underwent diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of the orbit in the axial plane using echo-planar imaging. The apparent diffusion coefficient of the medial and lateral rectus muscles was calculated. Results The medial rectus muscle was more affected than the lateral rectus muscle. The mean apparent diffusion coefficient value of the medial and lateral rectus muscles was 1.81 ± 0.19 and 1.72 ± 0.07 × 10−3 mm2/s in patients with Graves' orbitopathy and 1.59 ± 0.06 and 1.51 ± 0.06 × 10−3 mm2/s in volunteers, respectively. There was a significant difference in apparent diffusion coefficient values of the medial and lateral rectus muscles between patients with Graves' orbitopathy and volunteers (p = 0.001). The classification performance as measured with area under the receiver operator characteristic curve was 0.89 (95% confidence interval: 0.732–0.904). The best performing threshold of the apparent diffusion coefficient value of the medial rectus muscle was 1.69 × 10−3 mm2/s and associated efficiency was 86%, sensitivity was 97%, and specificity was 97%. Conclusion We concluded that the apparent diffusion coefficient of the medial rectus muscle can be used for diagnosis of Graves' orbitopathy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
