Background: Arterial embolization is a minimally invasive treatment that occludes blood vessels supplying pathological tissue. Developed to control bleeding without surgery, it has evolved over decades and is now applied in musculoskeletal oncology as a preoperative treatment, palliative care, or standalone therapy for select tumors. Recently, its use has expanded globally in treating chronic pain syndromes and osteoarthritis., Materials and Methods: We reviewed the literature on arterial embolization in various musculoskeletal conditions. The focus was on established oncologic indications for primary and metastatic bone or soft tissue tumors, and emerging evidence on degenerative diseases like osteoarthritis, inflammatory musculoskeletal pathology, and intractable pain. Emphasis was placed on leading studies regarding efficacy, complications, and recurrence rates., Discussion: Arterial embolization has progressed from bleeding control to a versatile therapeutic option in musculoskeletal medicine. It offers symptom relief, reduces tumor size, and improves quality of life. Applications include oncologic interventions and management of degenerative and inflammatory conditions. Despite its benefits, variations in complications and recurrence rates highlight the need for standardized protocols and further research., Conclusions: Arterial embolization is a safe and effective minimally invasive tool in the multidisciplinary management of a wide range of musculoskeletal pathologies. Ongoing research is crucial to understand long-term efficacy, optimize protocols, and broaden its applications.

Thyroid nodules are a common incidental finding during a routinely ultrasound (US) exam unrelated to the thyroid gland in the healthy adult population with a prevalence of 20-76%. As treated before with surgery, in the last years new minimally invasive techniques have been developed as an alternative to surgery. The aim of this review, based on newly revised guidelines, is to provide some information regarding the basic principles, indications, materials, techniques, and results of mini-invasive procedures or treatments for thyroid nodules. We performed a narrative review including both newest and representative papers and guidelines based on the different procedures of ablation techniques developed in the last years for the diagnosis and the treatment of thyroid nodules. All examined papers referred very good results in term of volume nodule reduction, improvement in related symptoms and cosmetic problems, with a very low rate of complications and side effects for all the minimally invasive technique analyzed. Obviously, some differents between technique based on different kind of thyroid nodules and different indication were found. In conclusion, many thyroid nodules nowadays could be treated thanks to the advent of new mini-invasive technique that are less expensive and present a lower risk of major complications and side effects compared to surgery., Competing Interests: Conflicts of Interest: The authors have no conflicts of interest to declare.

Objective: Our aim was to provide normative data concerning superior orbital fissure area (SOFA), ocular skin and the substantia nigra (D-SS) and orbital fissure and the substantia nigra (D-SOF-S) distances by CT scan in adult Caucasian population., Methods: The area of the superior orbital fissure (SOF), the distance between the ocular skin and the substantia nigra and the distance between the superior orbital fissure and the substantia nigra using CT and 3D-CT images., Results: Normative data stratified for age and gender were obtained. The data here reported show that some degree of variability in SOFA, D-SS and D-SOF-S measurements can be observed healthy Caucasian subjects. Gender stratified prediction intervals (mean +/- 2 Standard Deviations) for SOFA and D-SOF-S were 69.2 (+/-15.8) and 38.4 (+/-7.6) for male and 56.8 (+/-11.9) and 36.5 (+/-6.1) for female, respectively. Age and gender significantly impacted on D-SS values and normative data were constructed generating data stratified for these two variables. D-SS was 89.4 (+/-10.3) and 86.4 (+/-9.7) for male and female, respectively., Conclusions: Here we provide adjunctive anatomical information on specific anatomical cerebral zones. Our data may have implications for surgeons actively committed to treat pathological conditions involving these cerebral areas. Additionally, the anatomical variability found with respect to SOF and the potential different exposure of the substanzia nigra to the bright light could play a role in Parkinson's disease as already speculated in literature., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.
